SO, I usually don't get too involved in fandom discourse, but with how Baxter fans are acting about the loss in the MDDB I snapped and decided we should have a talk.

(This turned out longer than expected so more under the cut. I BEG YOU TO READ THIS AND TOP UNDERSTAND WHERE THE ANGER AND FRUSTRATION COME FROM.

This is all over place, I tried my best to make this as comprehensible as possible)

Specifically I want to talk about this fandom obsession with him and how, is getting to a point where people are legitimately re-writing the game and erasing Cove existence to have this fucking man instead.

And look, I want to say that I get the appeal, I do, but I don't because Baxter's route is genuinely the worst written one out of the three; Compared to Cove's and Derek's (and Derek treatment in the fandom is a WHOLE OTHER ISSUE) is really not. I'm not here to judge one taste, I am here to tell you that your love for him is ridiculous.

It is genuinely ridiculous how much popular he has gotten and so many of you are forgetting about Cove and how important he is to the story, and generally how he is important to a lot of marginalized people. Some of you keep forgetting that Cove is autistic and demiseuxal and that is such a rare representation to see and it is already erased in the fandom (especially his autism), but now is even more erased because people are grabbing everything that makes Cove Cove, and are applying it to Baxter.

That is also not touching the fandom treatment of Derek and how overly criticize his route his compared to Baxter's, like...DEREK'S PARENTS ARE GETTING MORE SHIT THAT BAXTER CANONICAL BIGOTED PARENTS LOL, WHAT IS THIS?? Are you guys serious?? I've seen a fanfic with Irene being transphobic, why the fuck would someone write that when Baxter's mom is right there?

And Derek shitty treatment doesn't end here because people are straight up erasing the guy and not ?? talking about on how well written he is ?? He is not erased sorry, he's forgotten, no one cares about him. And when people care is a) rare or b) so criticize to the point where is no longer a criticism but just you bitching about it.

And it doesn't end there! Baxter is so talked about that people are more interested in him making a cameo in OL:N&F than the main characters of that game, THAT'S HOW THINGS HAVE GOTTEN, We've gotten to a point where people cares more about some white man than Qiu or Tamarack, which are way more interesting than him as characters but neither of them are white skinny man so lol, who cares about them.

AND TO TOP THIS SHITSHOW IT SOMEHOW GETS WORSE FROM HERE BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T EVEN ARE CARE ABOUT THE INTERESTING ASPECTS OF BAXTER'S CHARACTER!!

Everyone is molding him like clay to create this, confident rich white boy when he is not?? and that's...the whole point of his route?? That he shouldn't need to put up this mask and to actually be a fucking human being?? THE FACT THAT HE IS A QUEER KID WHO HAD TO CUT OFF HIS PARENTS AND HAD TO BE INDEPENDENT FROM THEM AND LEARNING TO NOT DEPENDENT ON HIS PARENTS? (monetarily wise that is)

And like, people forget the man is queer, he is queer, he's a queer person who had to hide who he is to his parents and then had to cut them out for his own sanity, and no one mentions it.

The fandom as a whole erases queer identities,when this game is literally made FOR queer people don't you love it when straight people come into our spaces and erase our identities lol, that is a problem that more people should acknowledge, alongside the fact that Baxter's stans have taken over this safe space, overtook the main love interest, and ignore the genuine interesting aspects of Baxter's character to make him their own little doll they can play with and not appreciate a guy who is trying to learn how to stop being that mask everyone in the fandom has fallen over.

And I know, I know , I will get shit for daring to go against your favorite white boy, but consider that some of us played this game because an autistic character was in it, consider that this game is queer friendly and the fandom is also erasing that queerness to make horny fan fiction**, consider that some of us fond comfort in Derek and Cove's story and now we see everyone overtaking their stories by a white boy (that you can find in every other game), consider that his talk is tiring, consider also the fact that Baxter is technically queer and no one ever talks about it, consider that this game was a safe space for marginalized people and now it no longer feels that way

**with horny fanfiction I mean people re-writing Cove whole personality (and sexuality if we're being honest here) and making him this...horny big man when...he is not? He got stressed out by simply having to share a bed with MC, he's extremely shy around the subject of sex and he gets incredibly nervous about it.

I personally think that is due of both his queerness and autism (and yeah his personality, but autism affects ones personality so lol, sue me) since demisexuality means he genuinely doesn't understand how people can feel sexual attraction, and mixing that with autism means he probably doesn't understand the SOCIAL pressure around sex and having sex.

Granted that's speculation on my part but as someone who is (probably) autistic and asexual I can tell that, at least a majority feels this way and Cove is literally is the type to have this kind of mentality, he does not understand how Baxter can flirt with him after mere seconds of knowing each other

Hey remember when i bound the first half of from the archives? well i've finally done the rest! and honestly i am so proud of it. i tried some new things with the binding, and i am almost completely happy with how it turned out! the only improvement for next time would probably be actually measuring things.

so i've been having a hard time with my ✨depression✨ the last few days and i want to share something that may help someone? it helps me? and that's: go to bed earlier. don't stay up past 10 - 9:30 if you can help it. im so serious. it's the literal depression witching hour past 10 if you stay up too late and!! there's a scientific reason for it. (something about cortisol levels idk my therapist explained it to me once but point remains: you get sadder at night) drink some chamomile tea if that's your jam, take a bath, take some melatonin drops, ANYTHING you can do to try and sleep earlier. if you can't sleep that early (like me), simply lie in bed with a cozy blanket and read a book. or watch a familiar, uncomplicated sitcom. turn off the phone (read: social media). don't engage in anything that's upsetting. and i promise you the world will feel better.

#i say this at nearly 11 pm my time but that's because i took a bath and drank chamomile tea when i started to spiral an hour ago #exactly at 10 pm on the dot!!#and now i'm about to lay in bed with some calming music #i'm serious it helps. not only do you end up getting a little more rest #but nothing can trigger you deeper into the emotional pit of despair that you're already in lol #sam rambles

So, I just wanna drop my two cents on the Jekyll and Hyde duality situation.

While I believe the “split personality” interpretation that so many people outside the fandom have is definitely wrong, I also don’t really see the “Hyde is nothing but a mask” interpretation as being entirely true, either. Like, yeah, Hyde IS a mask for Jekyll, but as Jekyll “comes back” from his adventures, the book states that he’s shocked and in awe that he could ever do some of the shit he pulled off. Heck, he describes HYDE as pure evil, not himself. Hyde’s a mask, sure, but that’s not ALL he is.

And that’s not even to mention the fact that Jekyll explains the strange emotional high he gets when he lets loose as Hyde. The way he talks about Hyde as if he was addicted to him, essentially telling Utterson early on that he can quit anytime he wants.

Hyde is a mask.

Hyde is a person.

Hyde is a drug.

All of these can be true at the same time, because the whole point is that Jekyll is a complex man, and you should never take a person at face value. You never know what could be hiding in the darkest corners of their mind.

oh my god i ordered food bc it was pouring out and i didn't want to go get it myself lol and it was sUPPOSED to get here between 6:30 and 6:40, and i got a call from the delivery guy at like 6:45 and he was like so what building is it?? and i explained to him which building im in and what unit number and I stg no matter how many times i repeated my number as slowly and clearly as i could i SWEAR he kept repeating the wrong one. and now it's 7 pm and he STILL hasn't delivered it???

so now im probably not going go be able to go to the 7:20 movie i wanted to go to bc even tho the theater is like 5 mins away im not about to scarf down this food in 10 seconds flat to make it — that's even assuming it gets delivered before then!!!!

Potential hot take but- am I...am I missing something here? I just- I don't see the appeal of this Toji fellow.

No hate or judgement to all my Toji simps out there, keep living your best lives, I just...I don't know; I figured when he was introduced properly in the anime with his tight shirts and big arms I'd find him more appealing but like...his voice (Especially in the English VA) reminds me of a teenager just hitting puberty and his vibes are just...eh. And he's kinda ugly I'm half sorry-

Maybe things will change the more we get into season 2? No one spoil anything for me from the manga if there's some sort of big reveal about him but as of right now I just don't really get it.

Besides that though- I freaking loved Ep. 3 with Gojo and Riko at the beach! In another life; these two would have been chaotic siblings- causing mayhem together one day at a time.

(Should I write them a fic? I feel like these two would be such a terror team against Geto....I think I just wanna write Lee!Geto lols)

Thinking about the Slenderman as a species again. Call them Slenderkin for lack of a better name. My weird headcanons/theory below the cut

Slenderman's fanonly known to be anywhere between 8-12 feet tall in estimation but what if the monster we know now (if it was real) was a subspecies of an older race of creatures that grew around 30 feet tall and lived in a loose clan like social structure?

They are intelligent. They are creative and social (in their circles) and I say are not were because what if they still existed in the modern era?

What if the Slenderman and his brothers are actually the runts of whatever sire they had that came from their homeland and emigrated to more civilized places? What if they're all smaller and actually malformed/or otherwise genetically inferior than their distant cousins? Adapted to human civilization, not the wilds of their home

Perhaps that's because their sire mated with humans.

Perhaps he was just weak himself.

I do headcanon modern slenderkin to be a dominantly male race which is why, when they need to further their species, they breed with humans, females of their kind are few and far between, very rare, and though there are rituals and ceremonies to turn people INTO slenderkin, very few humans can bear the trauma and the changing and if they survive the transformation, they are infertile.

I'm thinking about the sexual dimorphism of the precursor clan as well, and how likely there are black, mottled, speckled, or otherwise patterned slenderkin out there and how the modern version of the Slenderman's entire family tree (if we're counting fan characters and the fanon brothers) are all white because of a lack of diversity in their gene pool.

The north American slenderkin wouldn't stand a chance against their more primal, feral siblings, which I like to imagine live on an island King Kong style, where megafauna both natural and unnatural thrive alongside them in a closed ecosystem. The island is covered by fog and has a strange climate due to geological anomolies but is somewhere north of Norway.

And whenever I think of these precursors on their island I think of a human being that wrecks their ship on its rocks and finds themselves the sole living person alive to witness such a place.

And I have even more questions.
