the thing with vashwood is they are both so drenched in blood and pain and misery and self-hatred but... they're so silly? with each other? whether it's what they bring out in each other or deliberate as a distraction tactic doesn't matter because they'd do it anyway for each other
then you think how WW didn't have the chance to a proper childhood and how Vash's got cut short and steeped in death and betrayal and it becomes something of an escape for them they get to be silly together, because they're the same

head in hands a small friendly reminder Not just to. ask someone to update their fic ???? if you want someone to update maybe instead of just saying “please update it” try “(insert positive thoughts about the fic), excited to see what comes next!” or literally anything besides straight up asking/telling someone to update their fic.
fic writers are people too. writing is our hobby. and you never know what’s going on in someone’s life. so just — don’t demand. don’t pressure. just say you enjoy the fic and that you’re excited about whatever is coming up

little TFP ramble (tbh can apply for any verse w humans but i have TFP in mind):
i wonder what the bots would think about humans getting stung and bit by shit? i know they have scraplets, so they'd probably assume theres something equivalent to them on Earth (probably mosquitos or something lol) i feel like theyd be surprised of how MANY little creatures can sting or bite humans, and then theres allergic rections and stuff that can seriously injure, and sometimes even cause death too
like maybe mikos allergic to fire ants and gets bit by one on her leg (horrible experience, can confirm) and it swells up and turns red, itches, burns, etc. and the bots are just like "that TINY bug caused that much???"
and then a few weeks later jack gets stung by a yellow jacket on his arm and the bots ask if it was another fire ant, and jack explains that it was something called a yellow jacket this time and theyre like "a WHAT??" and then they learn theres all sorts of bugs and critters that can hurt humans, and humans just... deal with it

Here's one of my continuity pet peeves. I don't blame anybody for this because continuity is huge, the writers themselves seem to forget this all the time, and WFA especially spreads a ton of misinformation, but it is something that'll make me instantly back out of any fanfic or headcanon that uses it as a basis.
If you create some tradition Bruce celebrates with his kids/Robins at certain points in their development -- especially if you're trying to comment on the Tim's 16th Birthday thing -- and you include Stephanie as a recipient in any way, you are 100% barking up the wrong tree.
Steph became Robin when she was 18. Maybe the last few months of 17 at the very youngest. We know this because she's two years older than Tim, and Tim's 16th was kind of a big deal. Steph's two months of probation (minus the three weeks she explicitly didn't work after the Scarab incident) was the longest she ever worked with Bruce in any capacity, and she didn't even know he was Bruce Wayne at the time. Prior to then her primary contacts were Tim and Cass, with some secondary training via Babs, Helena and the Birds of Prey that Bruce arranged but he only ever contacted her sporadically. After War Games and the Robin kerfuffle that followed she almost exclusively worked with Babs, Dick and Damian.
It's weird because I mostly see this happening in stories that're intended to twist the knife on how differently Tim-as-Robin got treated compared to the others but it just... rubs me the wrong way.

Canon Characters vs OC vs x Reader
Disclaimer: This is just my two cents, and my perspective on things, and I'm not trying to lay down the law for everyone. I needed to just put this to words though, in order to sleep.
I was thinking about this because of a post I saw, and some, we'll say, kind of useless comments associated with the post. Mean-spirited stuff.
Normally, in one ear and out the other, but the vibes just kicked me off down a rabbit hole of sorts an I wanted to try to put some of my thoughts to words.
First, some style vibes:
Canon x Canon Canon/Canon stories are, to me, like reading an episode of that show. I'm sitting down in front of a TV or whatever, and I'm experiencing the story As A Viewer. I like this style because I don't really have to expend much energy and I just kind of roll with whatever's happening. Generally some sort of 3rd person perspective.
OC x canon OC/Canon stories are like being on a carnival ride. I'm sitting in a car on a roller-coaster, and maybe the OC is sitting next me. I'm experiencing the story more deeply than strictly canon stories, but my connection with the OC is no deeper than say, my connection with Katniss Everdeen when I read The Hunger Games. Sometimes 3rd person, sometimes first person.
Reader x canon Reader/Canon (or Reader x/ OC) is like putting on a VR helmet. I don't get much physical input about the "Reader OC" because I'm experiencing the story through their eyes. I don't expect the reader to be me, but there's a bigger feeling of immersion to be had. Some description might happen cause it's relevant to the story, and it's still a type of ride, I can't jump the rails on the roller coaster, after all. (Even with a VN you still follow the tracks). Sometimes first person, sometimes second person (I'm partial to 2nd person perspective, but that's just me).
I love Fan Fiction, I love it. All of it, and man even more than anything, what I love is that I'm going to dislike 80% of it. Because that 80% was written for someone who is not me. (Hell, that number's probably closer to 99% if we're looking at ALL fandoms, but I digress).
Second - The VENT:
What got me the most in the post that prompted this, was someone saying "Bring back the Mary Sue OCs!" and then they went on to describe something more detailed, and I just -
Look, respectfully, fuck you.
The point is, you're not going to be happy no matter what. Whether it's "mary sue" OCs, or x readers, or alternative universes, or a ship you don't like, you're going to find something to be unhappy about.
Cause people have been bitching about all styles of fan fiction since the first "You've Got Mail" chimed in 1991. And until 1998 and ff.net you really had to hunt for it, and until 2007 and Ao3 the idea of tagging a fic for any reason wasn't really a thing. Every click was a surprise! \o/
I just have seen the same song and dance a dozen times. It's exhausting. People become okay with OCs and decide x readers are the enemy, and before that OCs were *all* Mary Sues and cringe and people who made OCs were the enemy, and before OCs people who wrote even a little OOC were the enemy, and people who wrote AUs were the enemy, and you can write fan fic but it HAS to be Canon Compliant, and everyone MUST be in-character at all times - "They would not fucking say that" was the enemy.
Look, just please - please - in any capacity, stop it with the "All X style of story telling is crap" mindset. There's over a dozen different ways to do x readers alone. I know 20 x reader writers and I don't think any of us have the same style, preferences, or vibes.
I've had a lot of comments along the lines of "I thought I hated x readers, but I really loved this." on a few different fics I've written. Sometimes it's not the style of the fic, sometimes it's the style of the writer, and my Brother In Christ - you're going to have to read some awful shit to shuffle through the thousands of writers out there to find the vibes that resonate with you.
Ostracizing entire swathes of fan fic because you need something to be "The Enemy" so you can lift up something else, and then bitching you can't find anything new to read seems like a personal problem.
And I know y'all are scrolling by TONS of posts that don't interest you, every day, as a matter of course. So don't give me that "clogging up the tag" BS, because we deserve to be here same as anyone else in the fandom.

Thinking once again about Beakley and Scrooge post SoS and before the family moved in, and I'm going to be sick.
That's her best friend! They've been together through thick and thin, and she's seen him through highs and lows, but never like that. He's so hurt and angry, his misery has completely overtaken him.
Like, how do you miss someone who's right there?
He's like a shadow of the man she used to know. And she can't help him! Duckworth can't help him! Webby can't help him (and even if she could, it's not on her to fix him, she's a child, Beakley is not potentially putting her in the way of Scrooge's short temper and lashing out just for the chance it may work, no matter how much she wants for the two most important people in her life to get along.)!
He's pushing everyone and everything away, but he let her stay, so even if she could, she's not leaving.
Idk they make me a little bit insane.

i have another isat thought now that i've rewatched the epilogue
in a lot of fanfic i've read loop ends up being stronger than siffrin (in battle, to be clear; neither of these bitches got emotional fortitude) and i think that's kinda underselling siffrin a lil bit. it's kinda hard for me to tell if it woulda been a fair fight had siffrin been at 100%, but we know at least that loop never beat the king (even if the king in sasasap is harder than in isat)
like, in the act 6 fight siffrin gets dropped down to his level from the end of act 4 (minus his Just Attack craft), which is a couple hours after he's been frozen in time, emotionally beat to hell (maybe almost releasing a sadness imo but that's a different headcanon), feverish from excess craft use, and had an emotional crisis-catharsis double feature. point is he aint clockin 100%. also it's a pretty safe bet that sif isn't playing for keeps in that fight anyway, since he wants to talk to loop and thank them, not ice them
in my gut of guts i feel like loop is getting the rouxles caard treatment (in that because they're a fan favorite they get treated as cooler/stronger than they are in fan media (not to say that loop isn't cool or interesting or whatever just that i think they pull focus a lot)) and i wish they wouldn't

y'know the sad thing about writing for a small/niche fandom? the thing you wrote doesn't get much interaction and in this economy and societal norm that means I don't get a nice hit of the happy chemicals
it's been three days since I last checked my most recent fic and the hits has gone up by like...2
kudos hasn't changed for a week :(
this is the existence I lead and I've made peace with it
(it's because I didn't tag it as rimster, isn't it?)

Twist on that "Cats believe that humans are their servants until the end of time and that the cats are always controlling them" trope in xenofiction where it does follow that idea, until the cat(s) slowly realize that humans truly hold the greatest amount of power over them. They carefully chose and bred specific traits that a cat could have, they control when they eat, what they wear around their necks, hell, they can control whether they actually take care of the cat or not
Just because the cats sit upon a golden pillar, being taken care of by the humans kneeling on the ground, does not mean that humanity isn't able to stand up and tower over them once more. Yes, there may be some truth in that cats domesticated themselves, but it was the choice of humanity to keep them around.
