REMINDER
tomorrow Friday, February 23 will be the 13th of shabaan, which means the ayaame bidh (days of the full moon) fast will fall on:
✨ Friday, February 23
✨ Saturday, February 24
✨ Sunday, February 25
It was narrated that Abu Dharr ‏رضي الله تعالى عنهsaid: The Messenger ﷺ of Allaah ﷻ said to me: “If you fast any part of the month, then fast the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.”
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (761); al-Nasaa’i (2424).
This hadeeth was classed as hasan by al-Tirmidhi, and al-Albaani agreed with him in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 947.
if you have missed fasts from ramadan, consider this a golden opportunity, especially as these are some of the shortest fasts in the entire year! and if you need extra encouragement, i’d be happy to be fasting buddies☺️

if there’s anything this year has taught me, it’s been the art of letting go. there are so many things, people, ideas, thoughts and feelings that i’ve let go of this year—more than i ever have in my life. some by choice, some by leaving me with no choice. but i’ve learnt that it’s okay to stop hanging on, it’s okay to stop clinging for dear life and just… fall through the air. and surrender to Allah's Will and let Him guide you. sometimes the landing is so beautiful. sometimes you’re afraid you’ll fall and crash if you let go. but actually. actually :) you’ll find something so much softer and comfortable than the spiky, rocky edges you were scratching yourself and pricking yourself with by trying to hold on. i’ve learnt that sometimes you might be falling for a while trying to find this landing and you’ll keep falling and falling and falling to what seems like no end.
but alhamdulillah, i’ve learnt to what it means to embody sabr and tawakkul. it doesn’t mean you’ll be fine all the time. sometimes it means pulling your hairs out, crying, screaming, sobbing and sobbing in salah, going silent, not wanting to talk to anyone, pulling yourself to get out of bed and get on with your day, pulling yourself out of bed to pray tahajjud and fajr when all you want to do is sleep for 15 hours, trying hard to focus your mind on what’s at hand rather than overthinking about the future, reading Qur'an and the pages get all blurry from your tears, pretending to be happy when you’re not, lashing out at the ones you love and then feeling guilty afterwards and doing istighfar, trying to be extra kind to the people around you so that they don’t feel the pain you’re feeling, or simply just existing, living your life and having absolutely no idea what's going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month and all you can do is just focus on what's happening right now. it means that through this all, you still believe that Allah will make it okay, that He still loves you and will forgive you, that there is a reward that is waiting for you, that you can keep turning to Him over and over and trust that He will make it okay. and He will.
and still, you’ll hang in there, you’ll still push, you’ll still get through it. because you’re strong. because you're being guided by Allah. and you'll already have let go now so there’s no going back. but when you find this fluffy landing, you’ll realise it was all worth it. and you’ll not only have found it, you’ll have grown in the process, become a better person and best of all, you'll have gotten closer to Allah (SWT).
and you’ll discover that this beautiful landing, this soft, cloudy landing that you didn’t expect to land on after falling at such great speed was peace, all along. the peace you were looking for that you finally found. and sometimes you’ll be pushed towards the edge again and this whole cycle will continue— and continue, it will. because what you thought was finally the ground was just another tall mountain with fluff at the top but spiky edges all around again. but the beauty in letting go and surrendering to Allah is that you’ll find peace again and again and again.
may we all find peace in 2024 and grow closer to Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ . may He forgive us for all our sins, increase us in knowledge, guide us on the right path and give us strength to overcome any difficulty/temptation/hardship. may He be with the people of Palestine and may 2024 be the year they are finally free. may He always be pleased with us and let us have a great year. Allahumma Ameen.
happy new year to you all. you’re all such beautiful people who deserve the very best. you have overcome so much this year, gone through so much this year, silently, publicly, and grown a lot. please give yourself credit for it and thank Allah. be kind to yourselves.

With Ramadan coming up, have you set your goals for this Holy month? Thinking about all the people we lost and the people who were not given the chance to live another Ramadan - May Allah swt shower them with forgiveness and mercy - it should put into perspective that Ramadan is an opportunity we have to take and make use of every second of it, because we might not live to see the next one, sübhanallah. So we better make it count and not let it slip by as if it were insignificant. It is the month of repentance, forgiving sins, getting closer to Allah swt, strengthening our connection and our Iman, it is the month of peace, of clarity, of taqwa, of hope. It is a chance for everyone, no matter how big the sin or how deep the despair, to come back to life again, and get back on the straight path again, because Allah swt is patiently waiting for us to turn back and walk back towards Him. So in order for us not to miss our chance, and to make this month actually count, and in the midst of the busy duniyah, school, work, motherhood, family, relationships, etc., We ought to start by setting at least one goal - Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can handle - to work on for this month. So think of what you want to work on or improve, set your goal and your intention, wa Allahu al mustaān 🍃🤍

✨🌙 Ramadan 2024🌙✨
✨Ramadan Kareem✨
Ramadan is coming up in a day or two (depending on moon sighting/time zones), so I wanted to announce that if you are practicing please filter the tag “deflowered” 🙏🌺☺️
I’ll try my best to tag appropriately what may be suggestive/mature/things that might break fasting but I can’t make promises (since it depends on the person in what they believe breaks their Roza/fast).
You can also find other tags you want to filter here.
As always, I can’t promise to tag everything and can’t say my blog is safe to those who are fasting, but I’ll try my best when I can remember to. 🌙☺️🌺
Happy Ramadan to Everyone 🤲🌙💞
✨Ramadan Mubarak✨

Ramadan Challenge 2024
Prep day 1: One thing you're looking forward to this Ramadan
Being healthy and fully able this year! Last Ramadan I was immobilized since my right leg was in a cast but alhamdulillah I’m so glad to be able to move around, help everyone with chores and not be a burden this year. And our government has made the last ten days of Ramadan a holiday!! So I’m very much looking forward to making the most of the last ten days iA.
Prep day 2: Anything you are scared of / worried about for this year?
Our brothers and sisters in Palestine 🇵🇸 are always on my mind, whenever I think about them I am reminded of how blessed we are. Nobody should have to be in their situation and I hope Ramadan brings relief and strength to their hearts.
Prep day 3: List one thing that would help future-you get the most out of this Ramadan, and go do it now! (if possible)
Usually I always finish the Quran recitation I begin after Ramadan before the next Ramadan but I only made it to Juz 20 this year 🥲 that’s okay, I’ll continue / start over depending on how I feel. I did do a super clean up and help my mom with Ramadan shopping. And made some goals and a Ramadan routine to organize myself.

assalamu alaikum everyone :) it's been ab a year since i made sabrgirl and i just wanted to say jazakallah to everyone who's been reading my posts and tips and really like my blog :) it helps me too and even if i just help 1 person i feel really happy that i can do that.
i've always loved blogging and writing and it's something i've always wanted to do !! soooo with that said, i decided to make sabrgirl into something a little bit more and turned it into a newsletter too :)
if you subscribe to my new substack, you get the posts i put on here delivered right to your inbox but also more personal posts about my own islamic experiences and lifestyle, habits and things i've learnt in life etc. so it's a bit more about me rather than the general advice on here that doesn't have me explicitly attached to it. if that's something that interests you, you can sign up here to receive the emails from me !! jazakallah if you do support it would mean a lot 🥹

ok so im not sure that this is articulate for ppl who aren't calendarheads like me but the jewish and islamic calendars are both calendars in which a year is 12 lunar cycles, and the difference is that the jewish calendar has leap months whereas the islamic calendar does not. so every 2/3 years, the jewish calendar actually has 13 months, and so each time there's a leap month, the jewish and islamic months become out-of-sync by one month. the jewish leap months are timed so that the calendar is in accordance with the metonic cycle (the way that the lunar and solar cycles always align in the same way they did 19 years previously). which is to say, since the jewish calendar was standardized, there have been cycles of 19 years wherein there is a leap month during the 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 19th years (sidenote—you can find what year we are in the cycle by dividing the jewish year by 19 and taking the remainder. for example, this year is 5783, and 5783/19=304r7, so it's the 7th year in the cycle, and not a leap year). but last year was the 6th year in the cycle—it was a leap year. so, it shifted the jewish calendar wrt the islamic calendar, and it put the month nissan (the month in which passover is celebrated) in alignment with the month of ramadan. this year, ramadan and nissan will stay in alignment. and next year, the 8th year in the cycle, ramadan will be in alignment with the leap month itself, which is inserted before nissan. so, it'll take 12 more jewish leap years before nissan and ramadan co-occur (if you look closely, you'll notice that it takes 33 years for 12 jewish leap years to occur, and you might recognize 33 as the number of years it takes for the islamic calendar to fully cycle around the gregorian calendar. which, of course, is not a coincidence!). as you can see, most of the gaps between leap years are 3 years long, but at the current part of the cycle, it's 2 years long. ANYWAY all this is to say that if it were a 3-year gap rn we'd be able to reuse that he is risen/he is not/he is off-limits until sunset meme for 3 years instead of just 2. sad.
