Note
what were your favorite and least favorite books you read each month and why??
SOMETHING TO DO YAY I read 64 books so far (and that's probably the ending number so) here ya go
None of these books are part of the SMP boycott as far as I am aware.
January:
Favorite: The Honeys by Ryan La Sala
When I tell you this was totally unexpected holy shit. It's YA Horror and follows Mars after they wake up to their twin sister, Caroline standing over them with a knife trying to kill them in their sleep. They go to the camp where Caroline last was to try to figure out what happened leading up to her breakdown and ultimate death, where they encounter a clique Caroline was part of called 'the Honeys.' This book, I was very happy I was reading it when my roommate wasn't home/asleep because I was up at 3 am screaming while I was reading I stg
Least Favorite: Good Girl, Bad Blood (A Good Girls Buide to Murder #2) by Holly Jackson
I couldn't even tell you what happened in this book. All I know is that wanted Pip to stop with the god damn antics and just go to bed I stg
February: I actually only read two books in February so uh
Favorite: On the Rooftop by Margaret Wilkerson Sexton
Ngl, I do not remember what happened in this one. It was just ok
Least Favorite: American Royalty by Tracey Livesay
This is supposed to be a take on the Prince Harry/Meghan Markle romance but god this was just so boring to me. The royal family in this was based off real life though with how insufferable they are
March: I only read one book this month whoops
Favorite: Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
I will recommend this book until I die I swear this is my roman empire. This book took me all month to read but is so good and made me cry and I need to read the second book ASAP but it's so long that I keep putting it off
April:
Favorite: Takes from the Cafe (Before the Coffee Gets Cold #2) by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
This series is so beautifully heartbreaking and deals with time travel to see the ones you love knowing that no matter what happens you can't change anything
Least Favorite: A Tale of Two Princes by Eric Geron
I know that the book is YA and that the boys are teenagers in this but all their antics were so overly juvenile and petty that I couldn't deal with it. Like I know that they are kids, but this was so bad. I was hoping someone would just like ground them or something just so they would stop
May: I apparently only read two books again in May
Favorite: Loveless by Alice Oseman
Alice Oseman never misses tbh
Least Favorite: Paper Towns by John Green
I remember loving this in like middle school/early high school and decided to reread it and that was a mistake
June:
Favorite: Caraval by Stephanie Garber
I only picked this one up because it's the first of a trilogy that is connected to another trilogy that I wanted to read but god I love the sisters in this book
Least Favorite: The Golden Spoon by Jess Maxwell
This was just ok. It's like Great British Bake Off mixed with murder
July:
Favorite: Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee
This book was so sickeningly sweet I stg I think about Dylan and Theo all the time I need to reread this one
Least Favorite: Belladonna by Adalyn Grace
I might come back to this one next year but like I couldn't get past the "I want to fuck death" aspect of this book
August:
Favorite: She Gets the Girl by Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick
Another one that was just so sweet I was rooting for these girls the entire time
Least favorite: A Taste of Sage by Yaffa S. Santos
This is another one where I couldn't tell you what happened except that she can get sick if people make food when they're mad and they fuck on the prep table in the restaurant
September: I only read two books this month and I loved both of them
Favorite: Yellowface by R.F. Kuang
What happens when a white woman talks over the experiences of POC in the publishing world? I wanted to punch June the entire time
October: I also read only two books and really liked them
Favorite: These Hallowed Halls: A Dark Academia Anthology
I'm not normally one for dark academia but I read this book the day I bought it and didn't want to put it down
November:
Favorite: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I had to reread it thanks to tik tok and it holds up unlike other books I read when I was younger this year
Least Favorite: The Girl from the Sea by Molly Knox Ostertag
This book wasn't bad. It was just ok. I read it and kinda just went 'meh'
December:
Favorite: Stars in Your Eyes by Kacen Callender
Check you TW before reading this because it is HEAVY but god this book had my sobbing at 3 am this was the book where I kept asking if I read the library book or do I read the one I really wanted to and I read it in one sitting it broke my heart and put it together in all the right ways
Least favorite: Just Haven't Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens
I love Sophie Cousens but the first love interest in this felt so cartoony it ruined the book for me

Theme Thursday - Competition
The Revenge Playbook | Rachael Allen | @epicreads Type: Standalone Where to Buy: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | BookDepository | IndieBound
Four girls. One plan. And the night that changes everything. Liv is the girl everyone gossips about. But when the rumors threaten to crack her relationship with her longtime boyfriend, she’s desperate to prove that not everything you hear is true. Peyton is the girl no one knows. But flying under the radar doesn’t mean she’s willing to let people walk all over her. Melanie Jane is the girl everyone wants to be or be with. Beautiful, sassy, and untouchable, she breaks hearts before hers gets broken. Most of the time. Ana is the girl no one talks to. Not after what happened at the party that ended her friendship with Melanie Jane. They have nothing in common…except for revenge. In the small town of Ranburne, high school football rules and the players are treated like kings. How they treat the girls they go to school with? That's a completely different story. Liv, Peyton, Melanie Jane, and Ana each have their own reason for wanting to teach the team a lesson—but it’s only when circumstances bring them together that they come up with the plan to steal the one thing the boys hold sacred. All they have to do is beat them at their own game
Jesse’s Girl | Miranda Kenneally Type: Companion Series: Hundred Oaks (6) Where to Buy: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | BookDepository | IndieBound
Everyone at Hundred Oaks High knows that career mentoring day is a joke. So when Maya Henry said she wanted to be a rock star, she never imagined she’d get to shadow *the* Jesse Scott, Nashville’s teen idol. But spending the day with Jesse is far from a dream come true. He’s as gorgeous as his music, but seeing all that he’s accomplished is just a reminder of everything Maya’s lost: her trust, her boyfriend, their band, and any chance to play the music she craves. Not to mention that Jesse’s pushy and opinionated. He made it on his own, and he thinks Maya’s playing back up to other people’s dreams. Does she have what it takes to follow her heart—and go solo?
The Way You Make Me Feel | Maurene Goo | @fiercereadsya Type: Standalone Where to Buy: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | BookDepository | IndieBound
Clara Shin lives for pranks and disruption. When she takes one joke too far, her dad sentences her to a summer working on his food truck, the KoBra, alongside her uptight classmate Rose Carver. Not the carefree summer Clara had imagined. But maybe Rose isn't so bad. Maybe the boy named Hamlet (yes, Hamlet) crushing on her is pretty cute. Maybe Clara actually feels invested in her dad’s business. What if taking this summer seriously means that Clara has to leave her old self behind?
Madly (or the Potion Diaries) | Amy Alward | @rivetedbysimonteen Type: Series: Potion (1) Where to Buy: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | BookDepository | IndieBound
When the Princess of Nova accidentally poisons herself with a love potion meant for her crush, she falls crown-over-heels in love with her own reflection. Oops. A nationwide hunt is called to find the cure, with competitors travelling the world for the rarest ingredients, deep in magical forests and frozen tundras, facing death at every turn. Enter Samantha Kemi - an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. Sam's family were once the most respected alchemists in the kingdom, but they've fallen on hard times, and winning the hunt would save their reputation. But can Sam really compete with the dazzling powers of the ZoroAster megapharma company? Just how close is Sam willing to get to Zain Aster, her dashing former classmate and enemy, in the meantime? And just to add to the pressure, this quest is ALL OVER social media. And the world news. No big deal, then.
Dumplin’ | Julie Murphy Type: Companion Series: Dumplin’ (1) Where to Buy: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | BookDepository | IndieBound
Self-proclaimed fat girl Willowdean Dickson (dubbed “Dumplin’” by her former beauty queen mom) has always been at home in her own skin. Her thoughts on having the ultimate bikini body? Put a bikini on your body. With her all-American beauty best friend, Ellen, by her side, things have always worked…until Will takes a job at Harpy’s, the local fast-food joint. There she meets Private School Bo, a hot former jock. Will isn’t surprised to find herself attracted to Bo. But she is surprised when he seems to like her back. Instead of finding new heights of self-assurance in her relationship with Bo, Will starts to doubt herself. So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Clover City beauty pageant—along with several other unlikely candidates—to show the world that she deserves to be up there as much as any twiggy girl does. Along the way, she’ll shock the hell out of Clover City—and maybe herself most of all.
Caraval | Stephanie Garber | @flatironbooks Type: Series: Caraval (1) Where to Buy: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | BookDepository | IndieBound
Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over. But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner. Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic.

Media “Truth” Rachael Silvia
Will a US trade agreement actually be reached with China and will it serve to grow and benefit our economy?  This is a daily, and very significant, topic of discussion in today’s media outlets because the results of this trade war has the potential to grossly impact each and every one of us in the US.  Our outlook, and therefore our beliefs, on this political movement may be skewed in one direction or another based merely on the source of information that we choose to look to as our basis of “news”.  It is puzzling, and truthfully confusing, if we stop and look for a moment at this trade war and just how differently the same story is being told!
CNN, on October 14, 2019, covered the on-going talks with China and presented the following headline: Trump’s ‘love-fest’ with China won’t end the trade war (https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/14/business/us-china-trade-deal/index.html).  One doesn’t have to read much farther than that to intuitively understand that this report isn’t going to have an overall “good feeling” about it.  The report tells its readers that a “tentative truce between the United States and China has raised hopes — yet again”.  The “yet again” implying to me that we have all heard this song and dance before but have not seen a successful resolution yet and will not likely see it now.  It also states that there is an “inching” towards an agreement.  The general purport is that are huge barriers between the US and China to overcome and the fact that it will take another 5 weeks infers that there are insurmountable issues to still be agreed upon.  The overall message to the public from this network seems to be that a deal agreement between US/China is doubtful to occur anytime soon if at all.
Fox, on October 12, 2019, covered this same topic with the headline: US and China agree to ‘phase one deal’ in trade war, stocks rally (https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/stocks-jumping-on-trade-optimism).  The title alone has a much more hopeful tone that that of CNNs.  This report states that the deal has been agreed to already “in principle” and that in 3-5 weeks we will start to see China increasing their US agricultural purchases to the tune of $50 billion/year.  Another positive provided is that that the US tariff that was set to increase on October 15th will not go through.  The report ends by summarizing the gain seen in the Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq, University of MI Consumer Sentiment Report, and the commodities high level of trade after the phase one deal had been announced.  The focus of this news feed is that the deal is underway and our economy is already feeling a positive impact because of the US/China agreement.
These two reports could not be more opposite in nature; are they both truthful, is only one truthful, is there a mixture of truth found in both reports?   If this trade war continues or escalates it will impact international trade…. But what does that mean for you and me?  The Balance, an independently owned content publisher, answers this question for us.  It means 1) we pay more money for our everyday imported purchases like computers, cell phones, and clothing 2) US businesses that export goods will pay higher tariffs resulting in the need to cut costs which lead to layoffs or, worse, going completely out of business - aka less jobs to be found in the US (a reported 12 million to be exact) 3) our local products will decline in quality due to a lack of foreign competition and 4) this trade war will surely depress our overall economic growth (Amadeo, 2019).  The Balance provides a historical timeline of the trade wars that we are currently engaged in as a nation and highlights the most impacted areas of business.  The conclusion of their research is, “President Trump’s attempts at trade protectionism have already hurt the U.S. economy” (Amadeo, 2019).
The Economic Policy Institute is an independent, nonprofit think tank that researches the impact of economic trends and policies on working persons in the United States.  This institute reports, “between April 2018 and March 2019 the economy created 500,000 fewer jobs than had originally been reported” and there are clear signs that we are in an economic slowdown (Bivens, 2019).  Their stance, different from The Balance, is that this slowdown is not directly linked to the trade war but instead to the Federal Reserve’s hasty interest rate increases that occurred from December 2015 to 2018 and the “utter waste of fiscal resources that was the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) passed at the end of 2017” (Bivens, 2019).  Their deduction is that while the trade war does have an impact on our slowing economy its impact is quite minimal.
Truthout, a nonprofit independent news organization founded in 2001, reports and provides explanations on a wide array of social issues and strives to maintain “accuracy, transparency, and independence from the influence of corporate and political forces” (.  Baker, a writer for this organization, shares with his readers that the trade war with China has certainly slowed the economy but states that this slowing is not directly related to new tariffs but rather to the amount of uncertainty that this war has incurred.  Baker (2019) reports, “[US] Manufacturing has been so weak in recent months, with production in August [2019] at 0.5 percent below its year-ago level”.  His article concludes that no matter how “good” the final agreement between the US and China really is for our economy, the public will surely hear from our President that it is a “huge victory”… and that because the President has an election to be won in the very near future.
Presentation of “news” stories that we hear today is not uniformly objective!  Some purport truth to be relative…but should relativity be a part of journalism?  It is unfortunate that we as a society have to be consciously aware of the fact that there may be a hidden agenda embedded in the way a network or organization presents a story.  This hidden agenda will undoubtedly determine what “news” information we hear or see and the tone (which is intended to “sway” our opinions) in which it is presented.  Because of this, I continue to remind myself that it is careless of me to accept a single source of information as “truth”.

Hello! Of course you can. My favourite genres are Young Adult, Poetry, Fantasy and Classics (when I’m in the mood for it). Here’s a list of books I recommend reading.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (fantasy).
The Caraval series by Stephanie Garber (fantasy, young adult).
Your Soul is a River by Nikita Gill (poetry).
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky (young adult).
Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur (poetry).
The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare (fantasy, young adult).
Fierce Fairytales by Nikita Gill (poetry).
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (classics).
The first book is a must-read, that’s why I wrote it in bold. I cannot stop recommending it. It’s my favourite book, my favourite escape from reality. This book taught me what real love is and it’s just absolutely gorgeous. Please, read it.
Today I ordered Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott. I read the summary and I read some reviews about it and it seems a beautiful book, it’s kinda the same setting as in The Fault In Our Stars by John Green (disease is a big part of the book) so I have high expectations. I recommend checking out that book as well. Happy reading!

The most important charts in the world from the brightest minds on Wall Street
Here they are: the most important charts in the world.
Once again, we asked dozens of top strategists, economists, and writers for one chart that is top of mind right now. The slideshow includes their verbatim analysis of the trend they picked.
All of these charts were submitted by June 16, so some of the data may have evolved since then.
With assistance from Rachael Levy, Elena Holodny, and Jonathan Garber.
 David Rosenberg
"This is where the power and influence still reside, and nothing is going to stop the inevitability that nearly two million of this critical demographic group will be turning 70 annually for the next 15 years. And they are very likely to make it to 85 or even older with medical advancement.
This has crucial implications for the financial markets because it is when you turn 70 that you undertake the most profound asset mix shift since you were in your 30s and loaded up on equities — when you turn 70, preservation of capital and cash flows becomes much more important, and yet in a world where 'safe yield' has become extremely scarce, the investment challenges for the aging but not yet aged boomers are going to be daunting, to say the least."
Rick Rieder
"This crisis has under-appreciated negative side effects for the US economy as a whole. Most significantly, student loans are making it harder for first-time home buyers to afford their own home, with more than 70% of would-be first-time buyers saying student loan debt is delaying their home purchase, according to the National Association of Realtors. As a result, the homeownership rate in the US has fallen each of the last six years despite a solid economic recovery, according to the US Census Bureau, with the biggest impact coming from the 25-34 year old cohort as seen in the chart above.
The student loan burden is not just curtailing young adults’ home buying; it is weakening their consumption in general, posing a major headwind to US economic growth. In addition to the direct economic impact, the student loan crisis could also worsen the class divide. Home ownership levels at age 30 are much lower among those with college debt than those without, and when faced with today’s high college costs coupled with the prospect of taking on significant debt, more students from lower-income households may choose not to attend college, worsening their outlook for employment and wage income over the course of their career. The bottomline: This crisis is likely to be a major drag on the US economy for years to come if it remains unaddressed, and an elegant fiscal-policy solution is needed, the sooner the better."
