Automa: a 24 hour comic - p1

I'm making a comic book in just 24 hours to prove anyone can do it. I'm only using 7 items to make this comic: 1. Copy paper. 2. Pencil 3. Eraser 4. Ballpoint pen 5. Sharpie 6. Whiteout 7. Ruler. These are cheap items anyone can buy at a walmart, target, staples, or even your local grocery store, so what's your excuse?

Anyone can make a comic and you don't need fancy materials or expensive tablets and software. You just need pen and paper, so come make a comic with me!

rewatched tank girl, I have such a complicated relationship with this movie. I'll dump like 5 smearing complaints about how flawed it is within like 20 minutes of watching, only to insist that it's one of my favorite movies ever.

the casting is perfect, but the dialog and direction is so mid! the bits and pieces of Hewlett's art is so cool to see, but it makes me wish it was a fully animated movie! the antagonists are goofy and fit the bizarro world of tank girl quite well, but jEEEEEEZ, the overwhelming amount of creepy pervy goons and the total creep fest that is the rippers??? it's so gross and uncomfortable. and speaking of the rippers, Booga, my boy, was done pretty dirty! hes mild mannered and clever! idk if I wasn't paying attention, but he was kinda played as an oaf. he's devoted to his girlie and his crew! he's got a big heart!!! and he's super well spoken!! Lori Petty is an iconic choice, but the lack of Aussie accent just bUgS mE!!!

my hope for the totally real and totally in production tank girl sequel (as well as it being fully animated, which will never happen lol) is that we see booga get a second chance. and fuck, whyy isn't Stevie in the first tank girl???? he's such a cool, wise character!!!! please, to the empty warehouse that is the current production house for tank girl 2, include Stevie. he's got so much potential. same goes for the rest of the extended cast, as they really help in rounding out the possibilities for the story!! also please just make polycule tank girl canon, all these absolute loons are dating, it just makes more sense.

Anyone know where I can read Lauren Monger’s Clementine comics/I think they were called “Habits” on Vice? They’re not online anymore and Wayback machine isn’t giving me anything... did she ever print a compilation of these? I have Sleepwalking but I’d like the rest... the one where clem gets called a bag lady is especially choice and I can’t find it anywhere

Something REALLY interesting about this scene

At the beginning of the scene Miles confronts Gwen about the 'small elite strike-team' comment.

Gwen lies and plays it off, saying that most of them are part-time anyway.

IMMEDIATELY after that in the next line dialogue, Hobie confronts Gwen and asks her 'Gwendy, how much have you told him about his place in all this? - Maybe not enough.'

Hobie is expressioning disappointment towards Gwen. He doesn't approve of her lying to Miles, knowing what's gonna happen to him. He doesn't agree with them keeping him in the dark - which is why later in the scene he says

'I haven't gotten a Scooby Doo, mate. But that's what they want.'

He's warning Miles that they're keeping in him the dark, on purpose.

ONCE AGAIN Hobie showing foward thinking and outwardly disapproving of the obviously unfair treatment that Miles is given. He's not angry at Gwen, but he's willing to tell her straight up that she's not doing or telling Miles enough to protect him.

Miles deserved to know Miguel's motives BEFORE meeting him. That's why he pointed it out then.

He's ALWAYS looking out for Miles

I've been totally fixated on the fact that gwen stays with hobie when she's not on spider-team missions so here's some fun notes

gwen says that hobie lets her crash in his universe- not "house" or "place" or "apartment", because hobie is homeless

she wears his chucks (how is she fitting into his shoes?) which is funny because hobie's original spider-punk costume included him wearing chucks, but in the movie he only wears boots

in the comics, the gwen stacy of earth-138 was, in hobie's words, "the greatest artist of [their] generation" who died a punk-rock legend, and hobie was/is a big fan of hers. gwen thinks his universe is cool and thinks it's extra cool that she's famous there, so his universe is probably something of a comfort place for her

gwen is apparently in his band (possibly his friend group which he calls the spider-band despite the fact that they're not actually a band and the others are not spideys), though gwen once rejected hobie's proposal of making an album together because his singing voice is awful (still, this was after they saved the world by playing punk rock together)

also, it's interesting to read "coming out as a superhero" as a queer allegory and it works in this situation as it parallels queer kids being kicked out of their homophobic homes and staying with friends in the aftermath

anyways. support the gwen and hobie besties agenda <3
