Sergey Brin - an American businessman best known for co-founding Google with Larry Page, president of Alphabet Inc.
Judith Heumann - a founder of the disability rights movement, led a 26-day sit-in at a federal building in San Francisco. The protest spurred implementation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, a precursor to the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Larry Kramer - co-founded Gay Men’s Health Crisis in response to the AIDS epidemic but was soon ousted over his confrontational activism. He went on to help launch a more strident group, ACT UP, and wrote a critically acclaimed play, The Normal Heart, about the early AIDS years in New York City.
Steven Spielberg - released his critically acclaimed epic film Schindler’s List, based on the true story of a German industrialist who saved Jews during the Holocaust. The movie won seven Oscars and led Spielberg to launch the Shoah Foundation at the University of Southern California, which filmed interviews with 52,000 survivors of the Holocaust and genocides in Nanjing and Rwanda.
Calvin Klein - made designer jeans and the infamous ad starring Brooke Shields revolutionized the fashion industry, sold his company to Phillips-Van Heusen (now PVH) for $430 million. Klein was the first designer to win three consecutive Coty Awards for womenswear.
And so much more. (a pretty decent list is available here)
Not only that, but the following are all Jewish inventions...
The Teddy Bear - made by Morris and Rose Michtom in honor of Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt.
The Ballpoint Pen - *the first commercially sucessfull ballpoint pen was made by Lazlo Biro, a Hungarian-Jew, and his brother.
Mobile Phones - made by Martin Cooper, nicknamed the "father of the cellphone", and was born in Chicago to Ukrainian Jewish immigrants.

Many Superheroes including Superman, Ironman, spider-man, batman, and more!
and more! (an illustrated list available here.)
Conclusion: If you're Jewish, be proud. You come from a long line of successful people. No matter what happened to them, Jews persevered, and they strived for sucess. Be proud of your culture, your history, these are your people. You're Jewish.
(feel free to reblog and add more, or just comment and i'll add it!)

Terrible Screenplays: "Indiana Jones: Girlboss"
Kelly Hu plays a bookish, brilliant assistant to a professor of antiquities (Malcolm McDowell), who refuses to see her brilliance or let her teach classes because of racism and misogyny. When she finds a lead on the mythical city of Shangri La, he will never fund such a project. But her wealthy brother (Chow Yun Fat) will support her, as long as she takes his youngest, no good playboy son (Simu Liu) along with her.
But only one person has been to Shangri La and lived: Dr Indiana Jones - played of course by Rachel Weisz, whom I reckon will 100% be on board with this.
And Dr Jones, a hard drinking grouch, is in prison.
So our 2 heroes bust her out, tell her of Shangri La and are swept along on the ride. They end up tangling with all sorts of dangers on the way, not least an evil mercenary and old flame from Jones' past (Monica Belucci), who sports an eyepatch and lots of leather and is only in this for the money.
Soon they'll come face to face with an evil slum landlord (Charles Dance) who wishes to obtain an artefact which will allow him to raise the dead: so he can better build a railroad. They team up with a local legend (Ke Huy Quan) and end up kicking all sorts of ass along the way, whilst a flame of attraction begins to smoulder between Dr Jones and her new backer... We just make "The Mummy" but Indiana Jones.

'Where to start when profiling such a talented and charismatic actor as Andrew Scott? How about the fact that, aside from some youth theater workshop experience, this Dublin-born actor has had no official drama training? At 17, he was cast in a substantial role in an Irish film called Korea and, from there, joined the prestigious Abbey Theatre company in Dublin. His move to England in the late 80s corresponded with small parts in British, Irish, and American films and TV series and paved the way for his career to take off.
Among other projects, Andrew Scott appeared as an extra in Saving Private Ryan's Omaha Beach sequence, as well as several guest starring roles in British TV series like Garrow's Law and Foyle's War. All in all, he spent the first decade or so of his career building a solid body of work that would soon catapult him into pop culture stardom.
Let's take a look at some of Mr. Scott's iconic characters and lesser-known projects.
Sherlock (2010 – 2017)
Who can forget when Sherlock first revealed the character of Jim Moriarty to audiences in "The Great Game" episode? Scott played Mr. Holmes's famous nemesis as a deranged mastermind with a playful sing-song creepiness and a palpable presence of malice. He won the Best Supporting Actor TV BAFTA for that role in 2012.
The Bachelor Weekend aka The Stag (2013)
Some may have missed the delightful indie comedy, The Stag, about a group of friends who set out on a hiking excursion in the Irish countryside. Mr. Scott leads the ensemble as Davin, the groom's best man, in charge of their mild-mannered weekend. Their plans are wholly upended when The Machine (Peter McDonald), the bride's laddish brother, crashes the party. Lest you expect an Irish Hangover clone, emotional confrontations ensue between Davin and our groom, Fionnan (Hugh O'Conor), when unresolved issues from their past rise to the surface.
Pride (2014)
The feel-good, historical dramedy Pride depicts a group of London-based lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the Welsh miners' strike in 1984. Scott plays Gethin, owner of a gay bookshop, who lends support to the group but hesitates to get actively involved due to his experiences as a gay youth coming out in Wales. He earned the best supporting actor trophy for his performance from the British Independent Film Awards.
Spectre (2015)
Once an actor is lauded for playing a baddie well, you have to expect the 007 franchise will come calling. In the 24th Bond film Spectre, Scott played Max Denbigh, aka C, Director-General of the Joint Security Service, an organization created by merging MI5 and MI6. While at first his disagreements with M (Ralph Fiennes) seem to be internal power struggles, it turns out C is a danger to democracy worldwide.
This Beautiful Fantastic (2016)
This Beautiful Fantastic is a quirky fairytale for adults and tells the story of Bella (Jessica Brown Findlay), a young woman who aspires to be a children's author but lacks the skills to navigate her out-of-control garden, let alone her nebulous career. Befriended by a kindly chef/housekeeper named Vernon (Scott), Bella begins to conquer her issues and blossom into the person she wishes to become. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson as Bella's gardening mentor.
Denial (2016)
A biographical legal drama, Denial depicts the libel case brought against American professor Deborah Lipstadt (Rachel Weisz) by Holocaust denier David Irving (Timothy Spall). Mr. Scott plays Anthony Julius, the lead solicitor of Deborah's legal team, who guides her through the UK justice system and their arduous path to obtaining justice.
1917 (2019)
In the innovative war drama 1917 (which starred a who's who of British talent), two English soldiers run a harrowing gauntlet through enemy territory to deliver a message that could save the lives of over 1500 troops. Along the way, the young men meet up with a handful of officers who help them on their journey, all played by respected British actors, including Messrs. Cumberbatch, Firth, Strong, and you guessed it – Scott. His portrayal of Lieutenant Leslie stands out a mile for its humor and hopelessness.
Present Laughing (2019)
Mr. Scott garnered theatrical acclaim for his performance as Garry Essendine in Present Laughing, a semi-autobiographical piece by Noel Coward performed at the Old Vic. Farcical in tone, the play depicts the harried life of a successful and self-obsessed light comedy actor facing an impending mid-life crisis. Andrew won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.
Fleabag (2019)
Andrew Scott's name may have been synonymous with Moriarty until the world witnessed his portrayal of a character known only as "Hot Priest" in Fleabag. In the second season of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's award-winning dark comedy, Scott was introduced as the cleric who would be marrying Fleabag's dad and his fiancé. The couple has an immediate connection at the dinner table, and a trinity of friendship, spirituality and physical attraction ignite throughout the six-episode season. Scott's contribution was perfection!
This is only a brief sampling of Andrew Scott's work and impressive range...'

The Last Romantics /Screen Two 1992 ▪ video p1 ▪ video p2 (embedding works without signing up)
I stumbled upon these episodes recently.... A story of literature and rebellion at Cambridge University. (...) maybe the best reasons to see this are Cumming and Sewell, making very early screen appearances. Cumming is fine as the naive, saucer-eyed Glaswegian (Holm finds him in a patch of daffodils one morning, watching to see if they really do flutter and dance in the breeze), but it's Sewell ("Dark City, A Knight's Tale") who shows the real star quality: his scenes with Holm fairly crackle. imdb
(Rufus') hair and the features are certainly in the romantic tradition, but the eyes are otherworldly. Heavy lidded, almond shaped and pale gold, they are the eyes of the Lizard King - The Prince of Darkness. They were the stars of Don Boyd's otherwise forgettable "Twenty One", drooping and glazed with heroin; then in "The Last Romantics" for the BBC, they blazed with the contempt of a nihilistic undergraduate.
His work is characterized by a disquieting intensity and a strong physical presence. "I didn't realise it till I saw both performances back to back," says Sewell, "I thought, oh God, same leather jacket, same unshaven look. They are both antisocial characters, but that isn't my thing." vogue 1993

Sands of Destiny
by Dangerzone21
Long ago, Silco, once the High Priest of Pharaoh Grayson, suffered a terrible curse for his crimes—one so feared by the Ancient Egyptians that it was erased from their history in hopes it would doom Silco to eternal misery and spare the world from his darkness.
A single artifact holds the key to the location of Hamunaptra, a city of untold treasure and knowledge—and the site of Silco’s tomb. When this artifact falls into a young Egyptologist’s lap, she realizes it is the opportunity she’s been searching for, the chance to make a name for herself and get out from under her parents’ shadows.
But the key’s guardian knows the danger it holds…despite her best efforts to forget. And she will do anything to stop the curse from being unleashed, even if that means returning to the city of blood and sand.

the Faculty: There are two extra 30 Year Olds in this group.  That’ll be Gretchen Weisz & Korazo Entei.  These are six key faculty members that are very present in the health of this university.   Quinn Gleaux (A Dean of Admissions) Chef Errox (A Martial Arts Collegiate Instructor) Gretchen Weisz (Dean of Academic Structure) Eiliro Stallion (Cafeteria Head of Operations & Five Star Chef) Dierra Loso (Language Collegiate Professor) Languages of Spanish, Portuguese, English, Saudi, French, Russian, Cantonese, Kanji, Italian, Inuit & Finnish… Korazo Entei (A High Ranking Police Officer & Dean of Safety And Enforcing) He is Officer Fifth’s Partner from time to time & yes they grew up in Loudsend together…
Lavurius: (In year 0, humans have existed for 3,000 years before Instruments of Life emerged to guide humans into a better humanity than theirs.  Making it Year 11527 for truths & honor purposes.  In Year 3333, was when the Phenomenon began.  In the same year, surviving family members of those that were slain for the greater good; created Lavurius the Coven.  Dead set on finding a way to stop unexplainable deaths of everyone born in a specific year, made their power insatiable.  But they would be shooting in the dark for a long time.  A highly long time because the amount of power they were using would take eons of development to equate to the Instruments.  With that day finally being here, will they finally uncover the truth behind yearly genocides?  With them all being immortal, their main motive in life is super natural justice.  The group consists of twins where three of them are the younger or older of their pairing.  Being born before the new year or of the next new year spared them.  Witnessing their twin die, was clear motivation to help the strongest league against the phenomenon.  These six are known as Reign Doubly.  Naja is the mage of this unit; all in all, there are more mages than other members but in their case…) Vakyat of Zimbabwe Naja of Thailand Umyrog of Greece Othezul of Chile Zeaux of New Zealand Kraed of Canada / They all met in college, attending Crediteria University over in Scotland…
Instruments of Life: (In year 11527, the original humanoid time frame; they are some of the surviving 11,000,000 humans.  About forty percent of the world is covered with blackened goo & that’s no good for any carbon based life form.  There are more than enough scientific leagues; trying to reverse the atrocities of humanity leading them to a deadopia.  They are all from different corners of the world but all have the same mindset; the Golden Rule.  How it’s nowhere to be found, will magically unite these six; making a savior group.  They were are all connected to the six most powerful scientific leagues.  The secrets they know will have them creating perfect immortality with a god complex of rebirthing the world.  They will go to the Big Bang, they will sleep off eons of time; waiting for humans to evolve, to guide them to the ultimate light.  Without ever showing themselves, they will eventually come up with a method of peace by killing off prideful humans.  The deadliest emotion of them all…  They will perfect humanity by ensuring no one creates any lore around a tyranny based society.  This will guide humans away from their negative nature of do all harm in the name of one person, fear &/or self preservation.  Guiding humans with love has marginally made the rebirth world; more advanced than the real world.  Advanced intellectually, emotionally, architectually, scientifically & the most important; lovely.  They don’t have statues, they don’t have no monuments; but all humans know, they exist as the thing that kills off humans born from a certain year.  No matter the day & age, no matter how old they physically are; you will get the axe if your amount of pride is futile. Renkler (Serial Killer & FBI Agent) of USA Khalloz (Marines Weapons General) of Germany Gardulz (Hypnotist & Entertainer) of Italy Tornado (Experimentalist & Erowologist) of New Zealand Amikka (Erowologist & Data Analyst) of Brazil Nejisam (Sociolist & Endologist) of Morocco

2023: The Year of Universe Zero
Last year was been quite a year, huh? It was a crazy and eventful year. I haven’t done too much outside of Quick Notes on this website. So I’ve had a lot of time to think through doing this.
This post will be different than the past years. Normally, I would talk about the seven best things to happen in the year for EZ fans. (I’d also have done it in 2023.) But outside of the anime, anything else I could mention involves the same thing: the shift into Universe Zero.
This was the second biggest thing on last year’s list, but barely. The only reason I didn’t have it as number one was because its overall impact on the series had yet to be made clear. It’s hard to think of anything in the manga this hasn’t affected last year.
So as the year has ended and Mashima seems dead set to end the series, it’s about time to ask an important question: is Universe Zero a good thing or a bad thing?
Let’s get the obvious out of the way. Many of the more tragic after-effects from before have been undone. Every character who died in the last universe has come back alive. All kinds of other tragic events have either been undone or lessened.
I know the way both sides feel. The negative side is that any tension from before is dissipated. The comeback for that is that having everyone come back gives the EZ crew more to protect. I lean towards the latter, especially considering I made a similar case when we learned the nature of Cat Leaper.
Though, you might remember that I made a bit of a bold prediction in that post. I said that Mashima could use the concept of what we’ve come to know as changing universes to bring about particularly drastic results for example all the past villains get together and form a super evil coalition against the EZ crew.
What happened in 2023?
The Oracion Seis Galactica came back. Deadend Crow and God Acnoella are joined by an evil AI made by Professor Weisz and Dr. Muller. No matter who the other two members were, this was an amazing setup for the group. Outside of the group, Drakken Joe and Poseidon Nero team up against the EZ crew, with Sister, Kris, and Kleene. Poseidon Shura brings the Ocean Six back into the fray. And behind all of this, the EDENS ONE, Void, and the Dark Starts are racing towards Mother, who is on the verge of dying.
So, the stakes are the highest possible, right?
Well, only kind of?
Not to disrespect anything I mentioned before, but it’s not like I figured it would be. Ignore the EZ Crew in what I’m about to say. Weirdly, this universe is a kinder version than before. (Such a Mashima fan complaint.) Mashima is amazing at dramatic situations, more than he’s often given credit for. Though, as you might tell from my jokes about his “school of despair”, things end up a bit too happy. It feels like this universe was a way to reset crazy things on a large scale.
Drakken Joe, the villain responsible for stealing the life spans of people around the planet, including Weisz’s mother? Now he uses animal life to keep himself going.
The battle between Oasis and the Aoi Empire, which is one of the most pivotal series of events in the past two universes? They realize they have a common enemy and fight him quickly.
Dr. Muller, arguably the most evil villain in the series, and easily my favorite villain? Weren’t you paying attention? He’s that common enemy. The Rutherfords don’t even get a shot at him despite teasing the idea.
And then there’s the EZ crew.
Probably my biggest complaint about this situation is one that I have with a lot of Mashima’s writing. We don’t get to see stuff we should. We should see how and when everyone came to realize that they’re in the new universe. I think the best chapter in this arc, and possibly the series, was the last chapter from last year. We had a repeat of the last chapter with a couple of twists. It ends with them realizing what happened.
It was cool to see how the EZ crew members came to remember things. My favorite one was Homura. Unlike most of the members, her recollection didn’t come from seeing the other members of the EZ crew or being on the EZ. It wasn’t until she was reunited with Valkyrie that the memories came flooding back. (More on this to come.) But we should have seen this for all the members. What made Laguna Hermit and the Rutherfords remember their place on the EZ crew?
And I can’t stand the training and handling of new powers in old bodies. I hate that things played out how they did. They just catch onto things they know despite their bodies having to adjust. Making Over Drive work is one thing. Cat Leaper coming back was a slap in the face. I would have been fine if the effects stayed, but they didn’t. The training should have been a mini-arc. But, again, Mashima is dead set on ending this series soon.
I must admit that I enjoy the positive gains the EZ crew has experienced. Homura was able to reconcile with her mother more realistically. (Loathe as I am to admit, no one is as cruel as the original Kurenai in real life.) Weisz gets to be with his mother again. Even Happy is a real cat and not a cyborg – a point that causes issues during fights.
And, speaking of positive changes for the EZ crew, we haven’t even gotten to the biggest one of all: all four of the Shining Stars have been reunited. It only took around four years from when the idea was teased on Sun Jewel, but Witch, Sister, Hermit, and Valkyrie Yuna are all on the same ship again. On one level, it feels cheap that they’re back. But, to be honest, it makes perfect sense. The whole universe was reset to the time before Witch Regret’s sacrifice. And with a Kurenie who’s helping the resistance, this wouldn’t lead to the incident that did Valkyrie in.
The most fun thing about the Shining Stars all being back is the allusions to the distant future. These were teased during the Aoi Cosmos war, but we’re getting a better look at what led to the Shining and Dark Stars to exist. I won’t pretend I understand much of it. However, the lore behind this whole thing could blow a hole through much of our current understanding of the series, depending on how Mashima takes it.
Speaking of Mashima, I’ve hinted at this multiple times, but I need to talk about this. Mashima has said that he wished for this universe to be much happier. It seems that he isn’t too comfortable with the dark aspects of this and any series he writes. It’s a shame because it’s one of the best things he does.
In Conclusion:
Seeing things play out in Universe Zero is as much of a grab bag as so much of Mashima’s writing. A lot of good has happened and a lot of bad. As always, let’s just stick along for the ride and see how things play out.
