My name is Boris. And I am an alcoholic.

I am 27 y.r. old Russian residing in the Netherlands. My primary occupation is software engineering. But aviation, however, is and always was a great hobby, sort of a passion, of mine. Due to several reasons, I didn’t manage to connect my life professionally with it so far unfortunately. Nevertheless, I am working hard this year to finally get myself closer to the world of real aviation and obtain private pilot license (PPL).

My situation turned out to be not that standard after-all. I found out immediately that there is very few info available in open sources to cover solutions to the problems I have faced. Hence, the blog.

Here I am going I to shed some light on the process, share some interesting facts and pieces of information and also answer following questions:

Congrats to my brother Hardy (Haoyi) Wang on getting his Private Pilot Certificate! I’ve provided the most comprehensive training I can ever imagine. He’s been flown to Catalina, Big Bear and San Francisco when he was a student. I even signed him solo to San Diego International and Ontario International, partially night, for x-country requirement, really pushing to the edge of the law, because he is simply smart and hardworking! Originally 3-month intensive training was elongated to be 5-month because of 2 unfortunate cancellations by examiners. It’s one thing to study a turbine on paper, it’s another to actually come face to face with one. Having a cross section like this is just icing on the cake. 🎂 ⁣ ⁣ The history of the turbine engine is as long as it is fascinating. The guy to come up with a design for the first gas turbine engine was an Englishman by the name of John Barber in 1791 (so long ago, what the heck 🤯). It had a compressor, a turbine, and a combustion chamber just like our modern gas turbines.
