Hey did you guys know that on the 10th of December 4 years ago I binged Princess Tutu for the very first time and have been rewired ever since that said day? Yeah I can't believe it either.

To celebrate it, I spent the better part of my sleep schedule redrawing slash reinterpreting what I can only describe as the One Scene that made me absolutely, completely lose it for them.

Lmao I promised to post this yesterday and then just forgot HAHA ANYWAYS UPDATED VERSION OF THIS!

For the ones that missed this the first time: Romeo + Juliet with Leo DiCap has this scene where they’re at a costume party (like the original story lol whatevs) and Romeo is wearing a KNIGHT costume and Juliet a white dress WITH LITTLE WINGS and errrr,,,, two certain characters from my very favorite comfort show might dance to the music of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet’s “Before Departure” Pas De Deux, where they dance together for a last time :’) And my mind might’ve gotten ham.

I love Fakiru and Princess Tutu so much

I already dislike this drawing but I won’t redraw it a third time — over my dead body lol so take it or leave it. I do like the armor a tho hehe

Fakir vs. Raven gang

I’m very very very impressed with Fakir’s spine flexibility in this scene. If it were me, I’m going to be slashed in no time. So close! Honestly, I’m so interested with the Raven gang because they look bizarre. I mean, look at those nice legs, but their half top is crow. It’s gave weird feeling. Really feels like seeing villain in costume in some ballet theatre.

I changed the background color because why not? I feel pink-burgundy suit my style more and made me comfortable, while the original style is too gloomy for me. I picked color for Fakir’s hair and turned out the color is actually blue-ish-gray. So it’s not green, but it still looks green to me. Well, on some of the scene I can see his hair as gray, but mostly my eyes see it as green.

Actually both Fakir and Ahiru both have nice flexible body. Remember the split (almost kiss) scene in Lake of Despair? So amazing she could do split in angst, while me, I could cry because of doing split :)

I got randomly inspired and made a crossover series for Princess Tutu and My Hero Academia 👑

I did 8 parts! The first four were character sheets to figure out the general design and who fit into what role. I also started learning how to do the Princess Tutu style. For this series, I have Deku as Duck/Ahiru, Bakugou as Fakir, Todoroki as Mytho, and Touya/Dabi as Rue/Kraehe. Also, Endeavor is the Raven (the overt villain), and the Hero Commission is Drosselmeyer (the background villain).

The next three drawing I did were screenshot redraws, to show the character relationships. I had never done this before, so I found it kind of difficult and definitely used some shortcuts and tricks I found online. My favorite is the one of Deku and Todoroki, from the flower scene where Mytho first meets Tutu.

Finally, I spent several days drawing a cover for the series, and I forced myself to do a lot of things differently. For example, I tried completely different lighting techniques to try and match the Princess Tutu style. And I also did a background for once!!

Overall, I’m SO happy with how these eventually came out, and I feel like I learned a lot.

(Also, I handwrote the cursive letters and I’m really proud)

The mime for Love~

When you can’t decide between drawing Princess Tutu or Royai so you compromise. This was one of my favorite parts from Princess tutu, when Duck mimes love at Fakir out of nowhere and he gets flustered. Affection of any kind from Riza makes Roy’s heart skip a beat. Her existence makes his heart skip a beat. Roy loves her with every ounce of his being.

Don’t mind me! This is just a comparison between two of my princess tutu pieces cause I’ve got some reminiscing and pontificating in my system. ^.^

So, like.... 5 years later, it is done!

First of all, the redraw was actually prompted by someone noticing that the water level on Duck’s leg was higher than it should have been. I can’t find their tag, so this’ll have to be unsourced, but... thank you to that person!

Overall, it didn’t shift too much, but one major change was the placement of the camera. Instead of the viewpoint being from a higher perspective, it’s now right at the level of Duck and Fakir’s faces. I think it gives a better perspective “equality” so I could capture both of their expressions to the same degree.

The water is also directly lined up with the view so I didn’t need to worry about doing(ignoring) the distortion that comes with viewing a thing from a wobbley water surface. Also it creates a cleaner line between Duck and Fakir. (A better separator of their worlds)

I feel that the second has much better details, but a couple things the first one did better would be, 1. Clearer poses. With extended limbs Duck in the first one strikes a better silhouette, and the perspective seems to be a more flattering angle for Fakir. 2. the lighter colors of Fakir which make it easier to see the details which are more obscured in the darker colors of the second picture.

I like the softer look of Duck in the second one (she looks happier to me). Duck in the first looks more like she’s asleep, and the face is a little funny because I was trying to wrench the perspective of it more to the viewer, (even though the “camera” should be looking almost at the back of her head.)

The black lines also stand out harsher on Duck1, so changing the lines from black to a brown on the skin reeeeeeaaally helped for a softer look.

Again, I like the expression better in the second vs the first. The details of the hair are a bit lost, and birthmark/ muscles don’t get to be as prominent in the softer lines and watery shading buuuuut.... like, now you can see the gills on the torso n stuff!

I drew each of the scales in the first drawing. I think it looks nice, but it took so long, and I admit I was panicking a little when I unintentionally started making the scales get smaller as I went along (yes, that was an accident) I used the spray tool for the second piece which took a LOT less time, I could also use it for an iridescent affect

I think.... if I were to redo the picture I would highlight the lines on the second piece in green to make them standout more.

Finally, (kinda my favorite part) is the hands reaching out of the water.

Originally, Duck and Fakir were going to mirror each other. gently reaching, almost touching, and creating ripples on the water surface. Emphasizing the water as a barrier between the two, with minimal breaching by Duck with her foot and hair. I felt it created a very bittersweet scene.

As I started the second piece I couldn’t get that positioning quite right. it continued to not look right until I drew them caressing each other's face (Which I kinda got mad about, cause Dang it Fakir! Now people can’t see Duck’s cute little elf ears!) Suddenly something in the mood has changed. They’re no longer completely separated by the surface of the water, and suddenly it’s much more hopeful. ^.^

Here is the rough fast drawing I made in less than 2 hours. Simple yet this one is definitely one of my favorite! Cannot call it screencapt redrawn though because I know well the scene didn’t shoot in this angle. So, let’s just call it scene redraw.

This is from Oak Tree episode (I forget which number of episode is this, I think it’s around 20-ish), this scene obviously one of the most touching dan emotional scene for me. Because I saw the first time in the whole episodes that Ahiru/Duck transformed to Tutu for saving another one that is not Mytho. I mean, she transformed several time for people who almost being abducted with raven-Mytho, but that has something to do with Mytho. While with Fakir, she’s purely want to save Fakir because she didn’t wanna lose him! Can I say that this is love? ໒( ♥ ◡ ♥ )७

Whatever it is, I can feel the flow of such a pure feeling. She didn’t say something like “I you are faded, who will save Mytho?” no! She screamed “FAKIR! Come back! Please hear my voice” repeatedly and even apologized for making him rush for writing and cannot do anything. At that moment, she only think about Fakir and forget Mytho for awhile.

Even though if it wasn’t romantic feeling, it still a caring feeling for each other that didn’t wanna separate and is a great dynamic for development of their relationship.
