Princess: the Hopeful, Crystal Edition, is DONE!
All that remains is formatting and layout and editing! The game is complete and playable top to bottom! You know the premise, don't you? Corruption. There's a force of evil corrupting everyone, poisoning their minds, spreading like an infection. Turning people against their friends, against themselves, until all they do is spread the evil. The enemy is everywhere. The enemy infects everyone. And its name is "fear."
Fear controls the world. Fear twists and imprisons us, turns us on each other and against ourselves. Fear hollows you out and turns you into a vessel to spread more fear, demanding more and more of yourself, demanding you spread it to others just to alleviate the pain on yourself.
We've lived under the tyranny of fear for so long we don't realize it any more. But now, we have the chance to be free. You're that chance.
Welcome to the War for Hope. Become a magical girl in the Chronicles of Darkness and fight the forces of Fear Itself! Express who you are in every action, put your lives and ideals on the line, and face glorious triumph or ruinous, soul-crushing defeat! Cast dynamic Charms made of multiple modular Upgrades to create your very own anime word salad spell names! Face Nightscapes crafted from fear and trauma to resolve and free the people who imprison themselves inside! The fate of the world is on your shoulders -- no matter if you're ready for it or not.

Everyday i mourn the fact that there’s not really any way to tell if the Twilight Courts of Princess the Hopeful have any naming conventions. Since there’s only three of them canonically. With the Radiant Courts it’s obvious to tell they have a card suit theme. A theme I kinda wish people making supplemental courts took more advantage of but that’s whatever.
But for the twilight courts we only have three. Tears, Storms and Mirrors. Which, while fitting for them. Tears being the court of depressed and the dead. Storms being the court of anger with a religious motif to go with their militaristic hat. And Mirrors being the court of egocentric nobles concerned with how they look to others. It’s- not much to go off of if you’re wanting to come up with twilight courts of your own.
I think the only real common thread we have is that twilight courts names make it stupidly clear what the courts are about. They wear their gimmick on their sleeves hard.

Generic Cain & Abel-esque Pre-Historical Origin Story For Dualistic Good/Evil Spirits In Urban Fantasy Setting
A long, long time ago, somewhere between ten thousand and a million years ago, one ape killed another ape. This wasn't particularly noteworthy, as animals killed one another all the time, over resources, over territory, over access to mates, it didn't matter. What made this stand out was when the victor stood over the cooling corpse of what might have been a brother, he felt bad.
This sensation of contrition elevated a mere ape into a man and turned a simple killing into murder, the first murder. From this, the guilt, the ability to recognize wrong, evil was born. Like a light casting a shadow in reverse, the ability to recognize that he could have, should have, done better, from this resolve good was born. Or maybe it was the other way around, good was born from guilt and evil was born when the man tried to steel himself against it.
Since then, the seed of two spirits, two powers, have been orbiting the souls of mankind, incubating and growing within its shared unconscious.

Princess: The Hopeful, Crystal Edition
Tumblr media
Princess: the Hopeful is a fanmade game line about magical girls in the Chronicles of Darkness, struggling against the overwhelming evil with the light of Hope. A lot of people loved the premise but found the rules clunky and the execution profoundly unfocused. I was one of them.
Princess: The Hopeful, Crystal Edition
It's not DONE -- it's in beta, which means it's feature-complete. A few options need to be filled in (a couple stat blocks, some Signets only have one option at a given level, Embassies don't have all their benefits, and not all the interstitial fictions are in), but all of the systems are in and you can play it perfectly fine. I mean, it's probably imbalanced as all hell, but that's what a beta is for. It's also probably formatted badly, and there's places I didn't catch where I use the wrong term for something because I changed it later. That's why it's only 0.8.
Crystal Edition is not a page-one rewrite of P:tH, but it's at least a page 2 or 3 rewrite. The structure and Queens are still there but everything has been revamped and refocused to give it clear through-lines both emotionally and physically. And the magic system is totally new and, though I do say so myself, it's really cool.
There's no more specific spells to buy one at a time. Each Charm has a basic action to it, and a bunch of Upgrades that expand its capabilities multiplicatively, so you stack together your Upgrades to get a spell that can do something neither Upgrade alone could do, and in doing so make an anime word salad spell name! Do you want to hit a ghost with a truck? Give it a Redline Phantom Step! Fling someone's bullets back at them? Rewinding Restoration, Stat! You wanna do sick air combos with multiple weapons? Weapon Master into Aerial Rave! Play three-card monte with your own presence? Blunt Tricky Cunning Illusion! How about a devastating magical finisher? BOTTOMLESS INFINITY PETADRIVE ANNIHILATION HYPER-EXPLOSIVE BUSTER!
Story and theme wise, The All-Consuming Darkness is not some new and distinct entity that inflicts supernatural taint on people to make them Darkened when they spend too long near a tainted place; the taint of the Darkness is fear. The supernatural corruptive force that drives others to spread misery in its name is literally the emotion of fear. The game's central thesis is about how much of the suffering we inflict on others has fear at its heart. The world is drenched in fear down to its bones, and Princesses believe that all of the weird-ass inexplicable nonsensical horrors of the CofD are all manifestations of the Darkness, though of course whether or not they are correct about that is another matter.
The basic "okay so what do I do" problem is solved by presenting a basic ground-level threat: Nightscapes, which are like Madoka labyrinths or Persona dungeons created by someone breaking under the weight of fear, and send out monsters to re-enact it. You don't just need to blow up the monsters, you need to figure out the source of the pain and overcome the psychodrama the prisoner has created in order to solve it, so there's multiple types of gameplay involved.
Instead of having a focus on virtue and public service that got frankly weird in the old versions, a magical girl character is someone who has a vividly defined personality and ideals, such that when they overcome obstacles, it's validation of their ideals. Princesses now have a Drive and Dread instead of Virtue and Vice; a guiding principle that they're About and something whose fear most motivates their behavior. Wisps are regained from spending Willpower, your human spirit purifying and refining. You can emotionally invest yourself into whatever you do by Flaring your power, granting you a free dot of your power stat, Inner Light, and you can do it multiple times... but if you emotionally commit like that, and you still fail, or you still have to compromise your Belief, the consequences will be devastating. The stakes are high and the tension is overwhelming and you will need to devote everything you are to succeeding and that might still not be enough.

OC-tober day 2 - New OC
(i got three pkmn ocs but i dont have their pictures on hand rn so...)
time for rambling aout some of my newest ocs! (first: the ones i have stuff of, then the ones I dont) (tw: brief mentions of ramcoa)
Tumblr media
THIS IS SASHA!!! she's an IT with a flower lol. @onlyspeaksinlowercase drew this drawing of her!!
Tumblr media
lorewise she is It's sister (both in a setting where there's only one baba/keke/etc and in a setting where there are multiple, it's just that in that her sibling is an it named It). she gets targeted by both the regular IT text and a SASHA text that refers to her specifically. < imagine icely dealing with that lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here are fangs (first one) and azu (second one)! i made them for a pmd roleplay group haha.
Azu was bullied and neglected as a human and often is scared of being teased/laughed at, while Fangs is her partner who she clings to and often rides on.
Tumblr media
^ the
(alright now for the ones i dont have stuff of uhhh)
there's Grape/The Grape System, a plural mage that's a collection of several sisasystems, with the fronting sisasystem being the levelheaded host (unofficially Host, but goes by Grape as well.), a little named Cloudy who is overly excited about stuff, someone else who is overly firey, a kuudere, and maybe other people idk.
they have a sisasystem made entirely out of baba characters lol
there is also Amber, another system! this time a programmed one (yay...). A Noble (from princess the hopeful) who uses the power of Transformation to help with resisting programs, "Amber" herself is a shell alter who makes her HC-DID look more like memory problems, a slightly inconsistent personality, and weird reactions to things. While transformed, she (the collection of hundred-something alters) finds herself having become way more of the free-thinker she was in past lives
anyways. see you day 3 :3

It looks really cool but I just scrolled through the whole tag is about a minute despite it being an incredibly Tumblr idea.
I'm currently thinking up a concept for a Champion of Diamonds.
