This 1909 red house is not old enough to be primitive / colonial, but that’s how it’s decorated, so if you like that style, you’ll love this cozy home in Corning, New York. And, it’s only $219K.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like the details, like a wall lamp mounted on the fireplace and the red floor.
Tumblr media
Even the Xmas tree is plain, like a Primitive style tree. Notice how they exposed and illuminated the space under the stairs and made it a feature.
Tumblr media
Lovely colonial style fireplace and Prim non-electric candle chandelier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lovely kitchen with assorted cabinetry and also notice the painted and stenciled “area rugs” throughout the house. (I wonder if the free-standing cabinets convey.)
Tumblr media
Painted stair runner.

The main bd. is lovely. There are 3 bds. in the home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2nd bd. is a cute child’s room.
Tumblr media
And, the 3rd bd. is currently set up as a sewing room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is only 1 bath, but it’s large and has a wonderful painted and stenciled floor.
Tumblr media
The basement isn’t fully finished.
Tumblr media
But, it’s set up as a home gym.
Tumblr media
The basement leads into the garage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The garage isn’t currently used for cars, it’s utilized for storage.
Tumblr media
And, there’s a wonderful vintage sink in room off the garage.
Tumblr media
The porch in the rear is set up as an outdoor living room.
Tumblr media
You can see the garage located under the house, and the yard.

The pineapple was a symbol of Hospitality in Colonial times. As ships came home to the harbor, the ship’s Captain and others would invite friends and family into their home and serve the “exotic” fruit brought home by the ship.
That is why you will find a pineapple over the door of many houses in Colonial Williamsburg.

Decisions, Decisions....
So, I’m finally painting my dining room and am conflicted about colors. I’m obviously not going to paint over this gorgeous wood, as one of the previous owners spent weeks stripping it.
I also cannot decide what to do with my mantel! I have some pretty pewter, but also some lovely paintings, prints and pottery. After looking at some of these lovely images from A Primitive Place magazine, I’m even more conflicted because they look so amazing! I do plan to buying a nice crane and maybe adding some fireplace cooking tools so I can finally make mac and cheese as it as originally made!
What do you guys think? Here are some inspirational ideas:

I really really love 2 & 3 the most. I have hanging herbs in my kitchen, so I don’t think I will go that route. But I love the handmade candles hanging there along with the tools. I’ve decided to going with some pewter candlesticks on the mantel as well..but I can’t decide if I should keep it simple or make it more pretty.

The swamp of the forgotten
Since the creation of the all-powerful, the world has been ruled by several species of creature. Among these races, there are several categories: the Elves. The Elves themselves have been separated into several peoples over the centuries. The Grey Elves, rejected by all sides and living on the bangs of the human race, have become primitive. Living off little and close to nature, their existence remains discreet and mysterious. Nevertheless, they are formidable warriors and practice druidic magic.

Here's a 50x50 plot for download. I needed to create a special world for this race, which was inspired by a French writer by the name of Fetjaine (this author influenced my adolescence). Unfortunately, I couldn't find a construction CC to suit my imagination. So I converted 4 objects from a 3D modeling site and incorporated them into my terrain (It's purely aesthetic!). You can find them as a detached link if you're interested. However, they are converted on an "Eco Lifestyle" basis.
For those who know me, I'm a fan of fantasy. So I made the terrain mystical with birch trees with shimmering leaves and red flowers (I know, I'm a bit perched 😅) but it's a change from the swamps we know. I'd like to thank the creators of CC for allowing me to build this atypical world. You'll find a non-exhaustive list of creators' names here, as well as my "Tray" folder. It's also perfect for those who want a touch of fantasy and survivalism (Sims live in huts). I hope you enjoy the game, and don't hesitate to share your screenshots with me!

Decorative Sunday
This week’s plates are from the first volume of La Décoration Primitive, a collection of portfolios documenting the decorative art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas (the last in two volumes, separated by pre- and post-Columbian). The four volumes were published in Paris by the photography and decorative arts publisher A. Calavas for Librarie des Arts Décoratifs, likely in 1922. The art critic and theorist Rosalind Krauss postulated that these volumes, along with Calavas’s other publishing for Librarie des Arts Décoratifs, were “published specifically for the instruction of arts and design students” in her 1985 work The Originality of the Avant-Garde and Other Modernist Myths.
While the Oceania and two American volumes contain introductory texts by Daniel Réal, a painter and curator at the Musée d'Ethnographie du Trocadéro, the text of La Décoration Primitive Afrique is by P.-C. Lepage. Lepage opens his introduction by addressing the use of the term “primitive,” insisting it is not used pejoratively. Indeed, “primitive art” was the most pervasive term used to describe non-Western art at the beginning of the 20th century. The term has declined in use as more of the art world has recognized the explicitly derogatory connotations. The rest of Lapage’s introductory text goes on to extoll the richness of the artistic tradition of the African continent, and laments the “disastrous influence” of les blanches in Africa, first by destroying “tout ce qui était à portée de leur ardeur iconoclaste (everything within reach of their iconoclastic ardor).”
