i wish there was some nuance between "everyone has to love the word queer" and "if you don't like it you are a terf automatically". because the reality is i don't identify with the word queer and i never have. as a kid i was aware of it as a slur and as a teenager i started to understand it in an academic concept first (as in Queer Theory) but i didn't identify with it because in my mind it was like, a clinical, academic word. and then later as i got older it became an increasingly prevalent point of conflict around me.
im not arguing that terfs dont dislike queer as a group term, though speaking from a british perspective the majority of them here are very focused on removing the T from LGBT over arguing about queer as a term at all, so it doesnt really feel like a particularly important form of conflict over what is a very targeted erasure of trans identity Specifically.
and thats kind of partially why i struggle to identify with the term Queer. it is not specific. it does not describe or capture my identity. lately i have found much more identity in words like fag, faggot, transexual, which do relate directly to my specific identities and have a very long history in the community. and additionally, won't get fuckin sold back to me by coke.
like that's really all Queer feels like to me now, something that has now been packaged up as an easily marketable buzzword to be printed on t-shirts at Primark or used meaninglessly by Disney to pretend they care. it does not refer to the aspects of my identity that matter to me, it's not something that i ever claimed for myself, and now i am continually getting told that if i don't identify with it im bigoted against myself and my siblings.
"queer was reclaimed by everyone, it was reclaimed in the 80s". i actually don't feel like someone else gets to decide this for me? im not going to lie and pretend it was never used as part of the campaign for equality for decades and decades, it obviously has a crucial place in history, but now in popular culture it has become like. ubiquitous.
like ive said before i think words like fag and dyke can be used in a way that reflects our communal family and is a sign of camaraderie and that's also true of queer, but with those words it's extremely understandable when someone isn't comfortable with them and when someone doesn't want to identify with queer it's treated as a sign they're in the wrong.
idk this is so far from being a crucial issue it's barely worth talking about but i just really struggle with being told that i am in the wrong because i have my own complicated feelings about a word with a complicated history. in the grand scheme of things it's NOT that important but it does grate on my nerves to be told that theres zero room for any kind of debate or alternate opinion in this. like i just wish we didn't have to be so black and white as if the issue has no grey area or room for personal expression at all.

sleepwear that’d drive bts crazy
description: what you’d wear to bed that'd drive the members crazy, sexy lingerie excluded because obviously i’d see most of them loving different forms of lingerie - this is a more domestic version, but still includes sexiness. they’d go crazy the first time they see you like this but it’ll never get old to them…..
author's note: a quick ot7 post in honor of the busan concert but i have wips that are almost done!
namjooon
why do i imagine that namjoon would love girly girly nightgowns on his s/o
get a dainty little nightgown in pink or white that highlights your boobs
and this man is a goner
he’ll go crazy for simple things like his tees too
he’d only like sets if its girly or somehow sexy: like camis paired with short shorts
or better yet a playsuit
but he himself would be surprised at how much he’d love a regular girlie nightgown
seokjin
seokjin would like two things
nightgowns - feminine but not too girly and frilly like namjoon would like
something simple, cotton, and soft that only very very lightly highlights your curves, with a cute pattern like little hearts or snowflakes
OR
pyjama sets, of course
ones that resemble his, like button-downs
or those with cropped t-shirt tops and a cute design or funny pun on them
but especially, his pyjamas
yoongi
i think yoongi is the least one to be affected simply by sleepwear
but if anything would have an impact on him
it’s simply underwear
even everyday, simple underwear!
i can see this being a rare thing though, like his s/o would  usually go to bed in sets
but on a rare occasion when yoongis s/o would only wear underwear to bed….
he will get so flustered
hoseok
hobi would love those huuuuuge oversized t-shirts / nightgowns that look like huge t-shirts
the type you’d find in primark / target / etc for cheap
with an obnoxiously large or even badly designed design or pattern all over it
or those old, faded tees you'd use for sleeping
with nothing underneath
he doesn’t know why he loves it so much
one day you’ll roll out of bed and just put on biker shorts underneath - for a very quick coffee or grocery run - and the sight will make hobi say “wow”
jimin
absolutely nothing
you’d be used to sleeping naked next to jimin after you both had fun
but if it’s just a normal, cozy night in and you get into bed naked? just for the sake of sleeping naked?
yeah you won’t sleep
jimin will giggle
“are you going to put something on?” / “why would I? you’ve seen my body, plus it’s hot. goodnight jimin” :) / “what the fuck do you mean ‘goodnight’? get over here.”
taehyung
similar to his kim brothers
taehyung would love girly/feminine pyjama sets and nighties, but unlike the ones namjoon or seokjin would love
tae would love silky, satin, delicate nightgowns - more slips than nightgowns really, and pyjama sets of the same fabrics
with lace at the neckline and at the sleeves
but the type that’s still made for sleeping rather than lingerie meant to be taken off
complete with matching robe
BUT he’d also love it if you wore long sleeved, button-down pajama set
in either those same silky fabrics or a cozy, thick fleecy fabric or flannel, for him to cozy up to - there’s no in between
get one of those silky, button-down sets embroidered with your initials and tae would go even crazier
jungkook
a classic graphic tee and undies combo would do it for jungkook
It doesn’t matter what type
it could be one of your tees, one of his
your normal undies, women’s boy shorts/boxers, or even a pair of his underwear
It’s just the combo of graphic tee + undies that does it for him
especially in the autumn / winter when you pair that with knee-length socks
as soon as the air turns colder that’s one of the first things jungkook will get excited for
do not expect to sleep when you wear knee-length socks for the first time….
or it’ll be that classic combo but the other way around: just a bra on top, and long pyjama bottoms - with a funky pattern or even a marvel/batman pattern
if that’s the case, he’ll nuzzle into you the entire night in that outfit, and will playfully unhook your bra when you least expect it

I love your bleach paint shirts they are amazing and you look incredible 🌠
Would you by any chance have any pointers on how to get started with that for someone who'd love to do stuff with bleach but has zero idea how it works nor much artistic talent/skills?
Honestly the reason I'm so into bleach painting lately is that I tried it last year and discovered it is like. CRAZY easy to do. all you need is regular household bleach, an area that it's ok to get bleach on, and a paintbrush. other stuff that's useful is electrical tape and card (for masking/stencilling) and a good spray bottle/mister. Recycling the kind of spray bottles cleaning products come in will give you a very blotchy/streaky effect which looks cool but will probably not stencil super well in my experience - I use a hairdressing mist bottle for stencils that gives a really even coverage.
As a step by step, my process looks like:
Put on light coloured clothes/clothes I don't care about, make sure soft furnishings are well out of the way, and cover any fabric (I have lino floors so usually just move the rug and work directly onto the floor)
Get the clothing I want to work on and put some thick cardboard inside it to hold it flat and make sure I don't bleach through onto the back
Draw out a design in however much detail is useful to you. I use a white pencil so it shows up well - dressmakers chalk would probably also be a good shout.
Cut any stencils I want to use (card, cartridge paper or tracing paper all work but bleach will just soak through regular paper. I have also had solid results cutting shapes directly out of gaffer tape) and stick them on with double sided tape.
Pour some bleach into a jar to work with, put bleach in the mister. Make sure you have some tissue or paper towel on hand bc bleach does go everywhere.
Paint with the bleach! I just use regular nylon paintbrushes for this. You should see the line developing almost straight away, but it might take a while depending on the fabric - sometimes you have to paint a bit blind while the bleach takes a while to work. Resist the urge to paint over it again until you've given it plenty of time!
Rinse it when you think it's developed enough! As soon as I'm done, I take the shirt to the bathroom, take the cardboard out, hang it up in the shower and just fire water at it. Once the water runs clearish, I rinse it properly in the sink. I do the shower step to make sure I've taken off a decent amount of the surface bleach before I submerge it cause I worry about the bleach spreading, but it may not be a necessary step. The water will probably run rust-red or grey for a while - that's what you want, that's the dye washing out of the bleached fabric.
I usually hang it on the bath for a tiny bit to drain off and do any last bits of developing, then stick it in the washing machine on a rinse/spin cycle.
Once it's dry you did it! New t-shirt!
Strongly recommend buying a good few plain black t-shirts to practise on and try out techniques with ☺️ I may go to fast fashion hell for this but I have a box of like 5 black shirts in my wardrobe that I replenish regularly for when I Get The Urge - I get ones that are like £3 from supermarkets and Primark/H&M and hoard them 😅
More details under the cut:
Some stuff about the properties of bleach:
Compared to pretty much any paint, bleach is SUPER viscous. Putting a brush in and pulling it out will stretch out a long string of bleach, and you have to reload the brush a LOT because it'll really only do one brush stroke because bleach likes to stick together
There's a temptation, always, to water it down to make it lighter or easier to work with. DON'T DO THIS (except if it won't come out of a spray bottle without it, and then water it down SUPER sparingly). Reducing the concentration of the bleach will extremely suddenly take it from "will give you a clear bright line" to "the fabric is very slightly paler if you squint in the right light"
The wetter the fabric gets, the more all the bleach will spread. So the more layers of bleach you put on the surface, the less crisp and more glowy the mark gets. In particular, cause spraying the fabric gets it fairly wet, I would always advise doing most spraying and stenciling last if you want to mix painting and stenciling.
Bleach obviously develops over time - depending on the fabric and the concentration you should get a fairly clear idea of how it's going to look after 5 minutes or so, but it will keep developing for a while and it looks a bit darker when it's wet, so you don't 100% know how it'll turn out until it's washed and dry.
There's two ways to moderate tone in bleach painting:
How much bleach you put on the surface (which you can control either by how much bleach is on the brush, or by layering up several rounds of bleach...remembering that the more you layer it, the blurrier it gets)
How long it sits (there's an upper limit to this - if it's been 10 or 15 minutes and it's still not as bright as you want you probably need to go over it again)
Because of this, you always want to start with the stuff you want to be brightest - so, on the ACAB design I started with the highlights on the lettering and the pig, the white squares on his hat, and his white fangs. Then I did the outlines, then worked down from brown to black.
Design notes:
You can't rely on getting crisp edges when you layer bleach on bleach, so I think it helps to leave some empty space around key details like lettering (like a black outline). One thing I've been experimenting with is masking areas off with cut out electrical tape or gently stuck-down card stencils that cover slightly more area than the design so I can work on a background without making everything a blurry mess
It's also very hard to rely on how dark or light an area will come out, so if you try to do bright white against dark brown, you might end up with a whole area of bright white. So again, outlines and empty space are your friends.
Bleach does spread and it is heavily affected by the weave of the fabric, so don't rely on getting tiny clear detail
Cool stuff bleach can do:
Spraying from a mister, spraying from a spray bottle, and just splashing/dribbling/throwing bleach directly onto the surface all give really different and fun effects and it's really nice to layer those up imo
Because of how viscous bleach is, you often leave drops and trails of bleach unexpectedly when you move your brush. this is a feature not a bug it looks Cool And Punk and you can use it to add interest
Different fabrics go different colours. Some go bright white, some go orangey/yellow - if you're really lucky, I've seen some t-shirts that go a really reddish orange and you get some cool bloody effects like that. As far as I can tell, fabrics with a higher cotton content are likely to go brighter (my denim jacket has gone almost bone white under concentrated bleach whereas most cotton mix t-shirts I've done go a fairly bright yellow/orange) while ones with a higher synthetic content may bleach a bit darker/greyer/murkier.
One other note is that bleach does damage the fabric's integrity a tiny bit. Not much, but if when you rinse it the back side of the fabric is more or less as bright as the front, you might want to treat the shirt with a little more care than otherwise - it's not a huge issue, but a few of the shirts that my partner made a few years back have started to develop holes in areas where there's been particularly heavy bleach.

you may not know the show, but id love brenda from beverly hills 90210 (the later seasons in particular) for the style guides ♡♡♡
This has definitely been the hardest of the style guides so far. I hope you enjoy!!
So, Brenda’s style really reminds me of autumn. She’s not afraid of bright colours, but she definitely prefers more neutral tones for her outfits. She has a bit of a girl next door mixed with bad girl vibe to her outfits. I think that it’s well represented in her dark hair and red lips, which contrast to the blonde Kelly
dresses
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brenda's dresses are usually short with patterns on them, sometimes floral and worn underneath a white t shirt. Sticking with the warm, neutral pallet, I recommend these

The white t shirt
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
simple white t shirts that can be paired with almost anything, though Kelly prefers to wear them with jeans for a basic look. sometimes she wears button up short sleeved cardigans that give a similar look
Where to buy: New Look, Gap, Hollister, Primark and pretty much any clothing shop.
plaid shirts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leaning into her more boyish style that she has at times.
where to buy: my favourite plaid shirts come from the mens section in thrift shops, they always have the comfiest ones. But, boohoo men also have a pretty extensive collection. They also have womens plaid shirts too on their female counterpart, boohoo. https://www.levi.com/IE/en_IE/shirts-blouses-tops/classic-shirts/nola-oversized-shirt/p/A33620009?camp=SHB_DR_Levis_IE_EN_GOO_Performance_Max&gad=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzdOlBhCNARIsAPMwjbzrtHOZ0IN1lANsx0DEu-MCfE58T4jNH3YIds3zMqMMBkiPegz1TDkaAqA3EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Overalls
Tumblr media
Pair these with a plain white or striped T-shirt for a full Brenda vibe. For shoes, I recommend causal trainers or black boots
Denim
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are probably the most prominent piece of clothing in her wardrobe. She usually wears light wash mom jeans with the occasional thick, black belt. In warmer weather, opt for shorts instead of full length, and dont be afraid to use bright colours.
Body suits

She typically wears these under her mom jeans and in darker colours

•Red, Burnt Orange, Dark blue, Black and white
• Mom Jeans and thick black belts
• Hollister, Calvin Klein, Diesel, Levi, New Look and Brandy Melville for brands
• black ankle boots and casual trainers for shoes
•blazers
• never be afraid to mix traditionally masculine clothing with a feminine outfit
• twin peaks is 'in' and fashionable
• circular goth sunglasses
• t shirt over mini dress
• mens jacket over dress
• she typically wears her hair down
• dark eyeliner and red lips, but not so much that you look like a goth, her makeup is casual (unless you want the goth look, then go for it!)
• don't be afraid to mix your style in with hers
I really struggled with this for some reason and I'm not quite sure if it's as good as it could be, but I really hope that you like it @actuallyblonde-xo . It's kind of making me want to watch the show 🤎

The Feminine Appearance Part 1 - Modesty in More Detail
Modesty, unfortunately, has developed a connotation of only being one specific type of way: boring, unflattering, frumpy, grandma-ish. We've been taught that if you're modest, you're automatically seen as unattractive and/or pretty girls and beautiful women can't be modest.
While modesty is super important and needs to be/should be followed by a traditional feminine woman, that doesn't mean you have an excuse to neglect your appearance and look unattractive.
You do not need to look like your grandma to be modest, so put the mumu down. Modesty doesn't not equal frumpiness or is the antithesis of fashionable dressing. It simply means that we do not need to show off all of our good to look attractive.
Take me for example. I went through the entire of college thinking that in order to be seen as attractive, I needed to wear the shortest shorts possible and show off my chest at any opportunity. Now I know however, that a dress that goes to just below my collarbone and is knee length is still just as attractive if you know how to wear it correctly.
A feminine, traditional woman can't neglect her appearance. It's our duty to be put together, to stay attractive, and be pleasant to be around. We owe it to ourselves, our husbands, our community. And it starts with one of the easiest things to change about yourself, your clothes.
One of the number one things I see that work to ruin modesty is not dressing for your body type or just opting for the baggy, 3 sizes too big garment. Flowy is fine, but baggy is going to do all the wrong things to your feminine shape. Don't show it off, but don't completely hide from it as well. There's a balance, cinch in your waist with a belt or wear an outfit that you brought to a tailor to fit you just right.
The other main thing I see is your clothing being very plain. Simplicity is nice in certain circumstances but in order to be attractive and modest, you need to start playing with patterns and fabrics, change things up a bit. You don't need to always wear solid colors in cotton or wool. Opt for maybe a floral pattern or fabric like satin or chiffon.
Here's some key items that help elevate your modesty and keep you away from looking old:
Accessories. Don't let your clothes just speak for themselves. Make yourself look put together, wear a necklace or some nice earrings to make the rest of you pop. My favorites are usually a simple chain or one with a subtle pendant and smaller hoop earrings. Wear a neck scarf, sunglasses that flatter you face shape.
Slip/Satin skirts
Matching Sets
Longline or tailored blazers
Jean skirts IF done correctly, with a raw hem or slightly distressed with a tailored fit
Layering pieces. Have a spaghetti strap top or dress you want to wear? Throw a t-shirt underneath.
Play with patterns and fabrics, don't just stick with plain white or black cotton
Graphic t-shirts. If you have them, wear them with a skirt and a cardigan to jazz it up!
Smock tops, especially for ladies like me with larger chests
Modest fashion that is flattering and age appropriate is sometimes SO difficult to find in standard retail stores! I promise that you can find something almost everywhere, but digging for those holy grail items can be exhausting.
So here are some stores, in person and online, that I find hold the most amount of modest products so you don't waste your time:
Uniqlo - this is where I bought my FAVORITE house dress, plus is a great store for basics
H&M - particularly their sections on business wear has great blouses, skirts, and dresses
Primark - this can be hit and miss but the dresses are wonderful
Ivy City and Co. - an online boutique based in Utah, has great items and adorable Mommy and Me matching sets!
NeeSee's Dresses - caters specifically to modest fashion, a bit pricier but so worth it
JC Penney and Kohls - they're everywhere and they have pretty much everything under the sun you would want, dress, skirts, loose pants, and blouses!
Amazon - I try not to shop here for clothes all that often because quality can vary, but if it has a good review, it's typically great and has great variety!

Weekly Trend- Red Ballet Flats on Pavement
As the weather cools, the easiest way to transition your summer wardrobe into your Autumn closet is to add a pop of red. From sweaters to scarves, warm tones are staples for Fall. However a new focus has been placed on bright red accessories this season, most notably cherry red bags and scarlet ballet flats.
Tumblr media
Incorporated in runways such as Sandy Liang and Simone Rocha, these slippers have made their way out onto the street and into the circles of It-girls and Pinterest- connoisseurs. Originally popularized by the likes of Brigitte Bardot, the movie star requested tomato red flats to wear in the film And God Created Women (1965). Decades later Chanel created their signature toe-cap pumps, and slowly these shoes have seen their resurgence into the trend-cycle in 2023.
Tumblr media
These shoes have been dressed up and down and every direction; from white mini dresses and lace to regular jeans and a t-shirt, they create a statement without the effort. Celebrities of varying ‘aesthetics’ have thrown on a pair for everyday use. Sofia Richie rocked her Jacquemus’s backless ballerinas during New York fashion week, the same time Sophie Turner dined with Taylor Swift wearing a similar pair. Olivia Rodrigo currently is  often seen in red; if not a dress, then the crimson shoe makes an appearance.
Because of the minimalist appearance of the shoe, it has the ability to work with seemingly almost any outfit. The potential to be timeless is hopeful, as while most trending shoes are specific to one brand/designer (ie. adidas superstars, slip on vans, black converse, sambas), These incredibly versatile shoes can be made by anyone at any price point. While a popular version is sold by Prada for upwards of $950, a more accessible version is sold by Steve Madden for $79. Even further, Primark sells red ballet flats for less than $10.
Tumblr media
How can one not invest in a pair at this rate?

Omg yes I need parts 2 and 3!!! That was extremely intriguing. Keep going!!
Have a snippet while u wait!
"Spends twenty minutes demanding to know what I look for in a man, then he literally throws me in your path," she intones, smoothing down the front of her t-shirt. "I wonder what conclusion he arrived at?"
It wasn't noticeable from a distance, but up close, it's clear that she's wearing a hot pink bra beneath that spotless white cotton. It is A Choice and A Torment both, naturally drawing his gaze to the last place he should be looking.
James firmly meets her eyes instead and—oh god, that's almost worse.
"I'm sorry, he—it's my birthday," he offers lamely.
"And he forgot to buy you a present."
"He didn't—" James's eyes flick to the door that Sirius disappeared through. "He said he'd give it to me later."
"Well, sorry to break your heart and all, but I think I'm a hasty sub-in for a forgotten birthday gift, tragedy abounds," she informs him. There is a definite, perhaps-amused, mercifully-not-enraged lip quirk. "The problem there, though, is that he didn't purchase me in Argos?"
James laughs, nervously. "I think you're a bit more upmarket than Argos, yeah?"
"Yeah, you'd think."
"Anyone would."
"Like I said to your mad mate"—she gives the end of her t-shirt a shake—"Primark's best. Soz."
"And? These are from Asda," he retorts, and tugs the band of his briefs above the waistband of his jeans. "What's your point?"

Style Q&As from the old SkinsLife website
Hi guys! In my search to find the striped hoodie Cassie wears at the end of her series 1 episode, I found the old SkinsLife website, where Edward Gibbon (the costume designer) did his Q&As before they moved over to the e4 website.  Unfortunately, not all of it has been archived, but there’s a lot of good stuff about where the series 2 costumes come from, and a ton of questions about Cassie’s clothes.
Here’s what I could find.  I’ll put all of the Cassie questions at the top and then all of the other ones under a cut:
-------------------------------
Hellie Cory: Can you please tell me where they got Cassie's skirt?? I absolutely love it and I've been searching for ages with no luck : (
Edward: Cassie's skirt is from a small Japanese designer in Camden (and well spotted Olivia xx the fabric is from Ikea.)
-------------------------------
TanitaAlethia: Im so happy about this. I have always wanted a nice, not sexy (like in costumes shops, there gross) little sailor outfit. When Cassi had one on, i almost fell of my chair, i love love LOVE it. So i was wondering, where an earth did you fined it? Thankyou =] Tanita-Alethia
Edward: Cassie's sailor top was from New York, but you can always try an Army Surplus store or maybe Camden if you're anywhere near London. Let me know how you get on!
------------------------------- evil_daisys: hey, i wasnt sure where to put this,, but were did you find the dress cassie wore in episode 1 of season one at the party? and episode 2 of season one she wore at michelles? i love the way she dresses its so cute and girly and still slightly different =)
Edward: Both of Cassies dresses were vintage pieces from the 60s and 50s respectively - keep your eye out wherever you are and never turn down an invite to a jumble sale ! -------------------------------
AmyyB: hi edward, can you please tell me where cassies pink chiffon top and grey socks that she wears in chris' episode? thanks sweetheart keep up the good work x
Edward: cassies' chiffon top was from Top Shop and the socks are from H&M.; --------------------------------------
maxine: heya, i was just wondering where cassie's bow t-shirt is from, from the latest advert? ♥x
Edward: cassie's bow t-shirt was from TopShop ------------------------------------------------
Franchesca Allen: Hi im really into weird and unusual style and i love cassie's. I was wondering if you could tell me where you get most of her clothes. And i was wondering in series 2 effy's episode whats she wearing with the leopard skin tights, what top is it? Please reply i've wrote before and got no reply :) Thanks and keep up the amazing brainstorms with the costumes xx
Edward: Cassies clothes are from all over the place ! Her style is a mixture of amazing vintage pieces, charity shop finds, vintage designer stuff and high street sale stuff (normally the things no one else wants ! ) The top you are talking about was a vintage nylon 'teddy'(an all in one , shorts and top underwear item ). This year she has been wearing a lot of underwear as outerwear so keep your eyes peeled in charity shops and don't be afraid to rummage through dead peoples' clothes! ------------------------------------------------
rachey_babey: hi can you please tell me where cassies gold high hees are from that she's wearing when she spills the milk and could you please tell me where the dress / nightdress cassie wore when she was sitting on the couch with chris and watching telly is from? i think it was white with a green or blue rim. ta.
Edward: Cassie's gold shoes are character shoes from a dance shop , customised with gold leaf and cassie's nightdress was a plain cream dress from H&M; which we customised with green lace ------------------------------- sarinda: hello, i really love cassie's style, i love going to jumble sales and charity shops looking for vintage finds so its really great that there is someone like that on tv. i was wondering where you got cassie's red skirt and gold shoes when she is at her exam? and also where her bra if from when she is getting dressed before that. thank you xx =]
Edward: Thanks, Sarinda. Cassie's skirt was Prada, shoes from Bertie and bra from M&S...;
------------------------------------------------
Lauren Jones: Hey I was hoping you could please tell me where Casie's night dress with the skeleton on it is from?? I have been looking everywhere and cant even find something similar! I would love to know where I could get one from please x
Edward: Cassie's skeleton dress was from TopShop Unique. It's probably not available any more, I'm afraid, but keep looking - you never know! ------------------------------------------------ Leelee: Helloo! My question is regarding the reaons behind Cassie's rapid change in clothing style in episode 9 when she arrives in NYC. At first I simply assumed it was to make her seem more vagrant looking, as though she was wearing simply what she grabbed in the dash. But then in the last scene of the episode, she is running down the street and is in another compltely out of character outfit, and wondered that would she really have all these clothes that she just never wears? Was there any specific reason as to this change? Thanks!
Edward: By the time we see Cassie in NYC she has been on the road for a while and grabbed clothes wherever she finds them , if they don't seem quite like what she normally wears that's because of what she has been through and the clothes she goes running in are Adams - see clothes tell a story as well ! ------------------------------------------------ asdfghjklxx: hii i was just wondering if you could tell me where cassies boots and jeans were from that she was wearing in the last episode when she arrives in new york, also where is the red and white candy striped skirt that she wears with the bow tshirt in her exam from? thanksss xxx
Edward: The jeans are from Uniqlo and then distressed, the boots from a Charity shop and the skirt by Prada
------------------------------------------------
meli_x: In the latest episode where was cassies t shirt with the bow on from and the socks she was wearing with that outfit (when she was in the exam). also her hairclip with two robins in (i think) and the necklace with the trophy on and her stripy dress from when she met chris' mom thanks :) x
Edward: the t-shirt was from TopShop, socks from Noa Noa and the birds were christmas decorations from a craft shop... ------------------------------------------------
Sara: Hey Edward, any chance you could tell me where Cassie's necklace (the cup/trophy) that she wears throughout ep. 9 is from? Thank you very much, loving your work!
Edward: Cassie's necklace was made from a piece of ribbon and an old badge from a Vintage Fair. It said 'victory' on it, if that helps. ------------------------------------------------
Danni: hey, i was wandering where cassies big blue jacket/coat was from, the one where she first arrives in new york? thankyou :)
Edward: Cassie's jacket was a vintage American College jacket - which was worn by Chris in the last series on the school trip to Russia, adding a nice bit of continuity ! ------------------------------------------------
rachael tallentire: hey 2 thngs i want to know where is cassies skeleton dress/nightie she wears in the last episode and also where is her top she wears for her exam from?
Edward:- both are from TopShop Unique range...
And a few Effy questions as well:
Munchkin: Where is the dress Effy wore to the rave in episode 1 series 2 from? i absolutely love her style, you dress her amazingly, it matches her personality exactly. please show us more of effie she is immense!!
Edward: Effy's rave dress was made by customising 2 dresses: one from Oasis and the other a vintage one from a charity shop...
------------------------------------------------
Michelle123: I hope this doesn't sound pervy but where is Effy's underwear from when she is in her room with Sid? x
Edward: Effy's underwear was from Primark and M&S; !
------------------------------------------------
larry the lady: Must, must, must know where Effy's jeans or leggins or what ever are from. i could die happy if i could get a pair. I'm on about the large striped black and white ones. XD oh and where would effy's character typically shop for her rave clothing. Love love love xxx P.s the black and white striped jean things, remember, we want them!! lol
Edward: Effy's jeans were from phunky phish/ Effy loves shopping in unexpected places - other peoples houses / old ladies wardrobes / her gran's charity bag and then she customises with scissors and a blowtorch !
------------------------------------------------
Other costume questions:
Pascha Rix: I really loved the gorgeous white shorts that Michele was wearing once in a club scene when she was dancing up against two other guys. The shorts were tiny, white and with pink sequins on them and they were absolutely gorgeous! Where do you also tend to look for other clothes she wears? Are there particular shops you goto?
Edward: The skirt's from Top shop but you can make your own if you like: hack off a pair of old jeans as high as you dare and then cover randomly with sequins...
------------------------------------------------
Kris Jones: I'd just like to know whether ALL the actors' clothes are chosen by stylists, or do some of them get to wear their own stuff? Do you even choose their pants?
Edward: Pretty much everything they wear is chosen by me - especially their pants and socks; they play an important part in defining their characters.....
------------------------------------------------
Savethesoundsystem: I wanna know where sid's yellow/orange nikes and the headphones t-shirt are from in episode 3! Oh and chris' flags of the world jacket!
Edward: Mike's trainers are retro Waffle by Nike, the headphone t- shirt is by 77 and the Flag Jacket was a rare vintage find.

Edward: Ben Smith - Maxxies' trainers are Nike Air Force hi-tops and his T- shirt was from Top Man.

Edward: Maxxie's hat was from H&M; ------------------------------------------------ Maciej: Hello Edward. I have trouble with shoes. I was just wondering if you could give me some advice. I like Maxxie's style, but I still don't know what should I pick. The clothes I mostly wear are from American Eagle (ae.com), no ripped jeans though. I don't think ripped jeans look nice. I also don't wear baggy jeans. I'm 6'2" and kind of skinny (pant size: 30x34 or 31x34). My shoe size is 12.5. So I'm big, skinny guy with big feet. I have no sense in how a shoe should match. I was just wondering if you could tell me what would look best on my feet from a brand like Nike, Puma, or one I could easily get in Chicago area. Btw. love watching Skins :-) Thanks.
Edward: the best look for fairly big feet is the plainest styles of trainers - good old Converse are a safe choice, mess it up with some of the great colours they do . Old school trainers like Nike Tennis shoes or their retro Waffle style / addidas gazelle or stan Smiths . Swear is a British label that does great very flat plain trainers with a twist - they have a brilliant new collection in collaboration with Hummel . So basically the plainer and flatter the better, avoid anything with chunky soles and too much detailing . ------------------------------------------------ HaydenWing: hi Edward, could you please tell me where can i get Maxxie's bag in Ep. 8 when he comes into the classroom with James. Thankies!
Edward: Maxxie's bag is by Freitag , who make great bags from recycled materials like tyres ,seat belts and inner tubes ------------------------------------------------ Chris Murray: Hey Edward, cheers for looking :) Could you tell me where Chris' tiger skin pink and black top is from, the one he's wearing in Episode 2? Its the coolest thing I've seen him wear!!
Edward: Chris's tiger t-shirt is from Behave on Lexington Street ------------------------------------------------ windinthewire: please can you say where jal got her giraffe earings from, i love them and reaaaally want a pair!
Edward: Jal's earings were from TopShop ------------------------------------------------ AlexGabriel: Hiya. I'd like to know where Maxxie's grey trousers are from, the ones he wears when he comes into the classroom with James.
Edward: Maxxie's trousers were from Cos ------------------------------------------------ trainstobrasil: could you please tell me what Jal's book bag is in episode 8 this season? the lovely yellow one with the design that she carries around throughout the episode. I loved it! thanks :)
Edward: Jal's bag is by Eastpak ------------------------------------------------
Abby Fletcher: hey, just wondered where jal's yellow dress with the black shirt underneath came from, and the earrings she has in in the audition! thanks much! xx
Edward: Jal's yellow dress was from Monsoon and the brown shirt underneath was Calvin Klein Jeans ------------------------------------------------ Jerry: Hi, I was just wondering what bag Tony wears in season 1, it looks like a Gucci bag but I never get a good look at it. The name of it would be swell!
Edward: Tony's bag was an unbranded one from Camden Market ------------------------------------------------ verity: hey, wondering where michelle's silver vest in tonights episode came from. and her vests in general :) then i just need to wait for some warmer weather..! thanks
Edward: Michelle's silver vest was from Kate Moss for Top Shop - her vests are from all over , American Apparel is great for brilliant coloured basics made in ethical factories ( much better for your conscience and the world than Primark !)
Episode 7
------------------------------------------------
moppet: Hey Edward, I just want to say I think the overall look of the characters in the show is amazing so whatever you are doing with the wardrobe you are doing it extremely well! I hate to be the 1,000,000,000th person to ask you this but...in Michelle's episode (Series 2, Episode 4) she wears a pair of skirt dungarees or a skirt with braces made of denimn. I would love it if you could tell me where you found it? Or where I could find a similar item? I know several people have already asked you on this about it. I would really appreciate it if you could get back to us about it. It would actually mean a lot! much love, moppet xx
Edward: Really sorry but can't actually remember what label Michelle's dungaree skirt was - it was a TKMaxx find - but try Lees new stuff designed by Jane Birkin for something silmilair ------------------------------------------------ HarrietBABESS: Hi, i was wondering if you could please tell me where michelle's necklace is from in her lost weeks diary, the black bow one, and effy's dress she wears to the club in series 2 episode 7? I would really love to know where to get them. Thanks
Edward: Michelles necklace was from Warehouse and Effy's dress was created from a vintage beaded dress , customised over another dress from Oasis - so sharpen those scissors and start creating ! ------------------------------------------------ geodude: hi i was just wondering if you could tell me wer you get the majority of chris' vest tops from i just think there so good that i have to have one especially this one!! thanks XD
Edward: a lot of Chris' vests are 70s deadstock - original stuff that was never sold - from markets and vintage shops - try some of the retro stalls in Camden or local car boot sales ------------------------------------------------ christian20: Hey I was just wondering if you could tell me where Maxxie's jacket is from that he wore at the skins secret party??? thanx
Edward: Maxxies' rowing blazer was hired from a Bristol Costume Shop and is probably about 100 years old - still looks good doesn't it , just goes to show great style never goes out of fashion . ------------------------------------------------
alex: hi edward, i've been spending my internet millions on some new clothes recently. can i tell everyone about them? (Note: Alex, despite his yuppy question, is not the sugar daddy he claims to be. You've been warned, girls...Ed.)
Alex - we need photos of you modelling your new looks maybe with some of your Skins' co-workers ! ------------------------------------------------ AnnaBanana: Hi Edward! First of all, well done on your supreme costume choosing, its impeccible! I was wonder where Chris' fluffy hat from the Skins 2 opening credits is from? Its pretty much the best hat i have ever witnessed :0 Thanks
Edward: Chris' fluffy hat was from the brilliant hip/hop stall in St. Nicholas's Market in Bristol ------------------------------------------------ Bridget Burton: hi i was just wondering if you could tell me where you got Jal's Shirt, shorts and (i think they were Nike) Trainers rom episode 1 series 2, where she and chris go to pick up Tony from Maxxie's. That would be very helpful.x
Edward: Jal's shirt was from H&M;, shorts were from Uniqlo and her trainers were indeed Nike . ------------------------------------------------
mindemo: hey edward...i was wondering where maxxie got that purple and silver nylon jacket in his unseen episode on his myspace...cheers mate...haz...XO
Edward: maxxie's jacket is from Nike ------------------------------------------------ SamR: Could you tell me where the outfit Tony wore to the university came from please? Thanks
Edward: Tony's shirt from Junk de Luxe , tie by American Apparel , jacket by Parkes , trousers from Cos , belt by Gap shoes by Converse ------------------------------------------------ Grantlock: Please could u tell me if theres a peoples market shop in bristol or wher i could get the clothes from fank you!!!:D x
Edward: Not sure if People's Market sell in Bristol - it's available in Number 22 on Carnaby Street and TopMan at Oxford Circus ------------------------------------------------
Kaz: Hi Edward, I didn't get my question answered last time and I really need those socks lol. Was just wondering if you could tell me where they were from? Michelles socks in episode 1 when shes in the club and outside with Sid
Edward: Michelle's socks were from American Apparel ------------------------------------------------

Edward: chris' vest was 70s deadstock from Camden Market ------------------------------------------------
john Rainey: hi jakes yellow/orange cardigan from the start of the effy episode? can you tell me where it's from?
Edward: jake's cardigan was an old ladie's from a jumble sale
Episode 9
------------------------------------------------
Dave Gee: Hi, can you tell me where Tony got his pink underwear and t-shirt from, please? It was the episode where Effy's mad mate came over.
Edward: Pay attention, Dave! Tony's underwear was pink due to Effy's inefficiency in the washing department! ------------------------------------------------
Christina_Marie: Hi, i was just wondering where Michelles green dress comes from in the calander cover photo below theres a photo. And also were do Jal's pink star earing come from which she too wore in the same photo? Thanks xx
Edward: Michelle's dress was by Lux from Urban Outfitters and Jal's earings were from H & M.
------------------------------------------------
Branwen: Hi edward can somebody PLEASE tell me where jal got her white dress top she wears in episode 8 series 2 when shes at her music audition, ive asked like 8 times lol! Thanks a lot xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Edward: Jal's audition dress was from Oasis - well asked!
------------------------------------------------
snoogins: This may sound like a stupid question, but i thought you should be the one to ask. I have a big problem buying trousers for myself. I dunno if it's just my frame (I'm 6 foot and pretty thin). But anything outside of blue jeans look awkward on me. I was wondering if you had any tips when look for mens trousers. Oh and everyone always asks where certain characters shop. I was wanting to know whats your own favourite brands of clothing?
Edward: Hi snoogins. Blue jeans are a pretty good basic for any look - take advantage of your height by maybe wearing trousers a bit shorter than you normally would - Farah have a great range of trousers that suit all shapes, so check them out. My favourite labels are Margaret Howell, Vivienne Westwood, Thom Browne and thanks for asking... ------------------------------------------------
skinsfreak: hey edward, was just wondering where Chris's Monkey Man t shirt was from?
Edward: Chris' Monkey Man was specially designed by me.
------------------------------------------------
beth babe: hi edward:) could you please tell me where michelles gold-like jeans are from that she wears with the silver vest in episode 8? also where is the blue vest top and the orange bra from that she wears? i cant remember which episode she wore them in sorry, thanks so much! the skins style owns:) x
Edward: Michelle's gold jeans were from Morgan , blue vest from Oasis and orange bra from La Senza. ------------------------------------------------

Top modest fashion trends you need to know about
Tumblr media
Modest fashion video today I'm sharing 2021's top trends that are modest friendly that I have been wearing and loving for the last little while now I have been loving wearing possibly overkilling is oversized blazers and oversized suits now the silhouette we've been teased with it over the years but it is really back with a force and it is here to stay now this is of course classic and super super versatile because as we know now blazers can be dressed up or down I love pairing them with jeans.
I also love wearing it belted over a maxi skirt my favorite thing to actually do is to thrift vintage oversized blazers so you don't have to go into you know an expensive retailer and you can get really great ones for energy on that note the next fashion dream that you're going to want to try out and is super modest friendly is sustainability and classics of course never date sustainability is super important for our planet and vintage I don't know about you guys but I have been a vintage thrifting gal for as long as I can remember.
So an example of vintage and classics coming together is I recently bought this oversized um  white shirt it's actually a men's shirt and I wear it with absolutely everything I love it with jeans I love it with maxi skirts I even throw it over dresses and tie it maybe in the waist just to give my look a bit of extra dimension to give it more of an hourglass silhouette or just to make things a little bit more layered and interesting more and more brands consumers all of us we are realizing the importance of caring for our planet and so sustainability is key so whether you shop from locally ethically produced brands whether you shop vintage whether you do a clothing swap with your friends.
If you are shopping sustainably you are on the right track and of course back in the day a lot of clothing was a lot more modest friendly so you are more likely to find all the pieces that cover up a whole lot better a couple of months ago  I actually posted a video on what to look out for when you go thrifting so be sure to check that video out all of those items are also modest friendly and you can find them quite often in your favorite thrift store then the next trend is baby doll dresses and with that goes puffy sleeves I'm actually wearing kind of puffy sleeves today.

ten ways to be modest and summer it's actually a misconception nowadays you have to look modest because you follow a certain religion it has a lot of other connotations but most importantly you do you t ese tips are for people who want to cover up a little bit in summer they don't necessarily like to show much skin it could be for religious purposes it could be because you don't want to affect your skin from the Sun being so exposed to the Sun you could be doing this for various reasons let's thank the who actually recommended and wanted to see this video and let's get started picking the right materials that goes for both seasons but natural fibers are always the better choice things like cotton linen and silk.
They are breathable and that's so much needed in summer when you wear materials like elastin and polyester usually they're cheaper because of there is a reason they have plastic in them which is bad for the environment as a one side but at the same time they're bad because they clog your skin and they make the sweat that your body produces smell bad that's why sometimes you would buy this chiffon like material from I don't know Primark and then you will wear the top and then you would smell yourself and you would smell that that just smells wrong and it's not because you're wearing not wearing deodorant it's because this material just makes you smell bad and hat's because it's not a natural fiber.

My first week of my first job in retail; 2020 Christmas
Some moments from working Primark in a pandemic
I have been applying for jobs solidly since the end of August, when I left Wales. Primark is the only posting where I pass all of scenario quiz, or at least do well enough to get an interview. I get the sense that my boss has hired me purely because he found me interesting, as I have no retail experience. Later I find out that 180 people applied for the job; 8 were hired.
A man from Colombia on my bus is having a shouting conversation with someone else. He talks about how dangerous the area my work is in is. Stabbing is mentioned. He then talks about how people who don't learn English are lazy and need to integrate.
The head manager tells me that on my first day I should not be left alone. I am left alone for approximately 4 hours.
A manager asks me "how do you do standards?" in a confrontational way that suggests I have been doing it wrong, but does not correct how I am doing it. Another new hire later tells me that she was spoken to the same way.
I am put on tills. The manager is dealing with a man who is unhappy so sets my till to training mode and hands me off to another lady to be trained. She serves a customer on my till. Someone else points out the till is on training mode. This is enough of a problem that it is all the women talk about for the next 3 hours.
Later a manager comes to ask me if I know the meaning of specific terms and I fail completely. I am retrained.
In homewares, one of the few white members of staff says she can tell I was hired by the white manager because I am "better than what they normally get". She means white.
I wipe down my till desk with antibac spray. A manager says this is the first time she has seen anyone do that.
A customer laughs at me for wiping and calls me OCD. I explain I live with a vulnerable mother and she stops laughing and looks guilty. She is not wearing a mask.
A woman on the phone walks around shelves laden with jogging bottoms, pulling them out of the stacks and throwing on the top. She makes eye contact with me several times as she does it.
Customers keep lowering their mask to talk to me. I tell them to put it back up.
A girl of around 6 rubs her mittened hands on me. It has been months since I had human touch and all I can do is stare at her in shock. She starts to cry.
A boy of around 3 is pulling items off the shelf as I am folding them. His father tells me to tell him off.
A man gets cross at me because there is a sign with a children's t-shirt and shorts for £1.50 each and all we have now is sweatshirts and joggers for £2.50 each.
Many items carry a label saying "made with sustainable cotton". I constantly think about the parched Aral Sea.
Multiple people ask me if baby items are "for boy or girl???" And hang around frustrated and lost when I tell them "either, it's your choice."
Multiple people are obsessed with having matching sets of things. When I tell them it's mix and match they ask me for help matching, and then reject my suggestions. I think about my art degree.
I run hot and cold and have constant aches but am unable to tell if this is viral or simply muscular.
A woman has brought back jeans that did not fit her daughter. I find her identical styles in a larger size. She then starts asking "do you think this will fit my other daughter?" and "do you have this style in this colour, shaded?" And is unsatisfied with every answer I give.
A woman wants a display duvet cover and refuses to believe it is not for sale until I get a manager. He explains that 1000s of people have touched it and it's not for sale. She is unsatisfied.
I work out my wages. They are much smaller than expected because of unpaid breaks and early ends. I try not to buy anything but the bus often brings me early and I keep grabbing coffees to kill time.

the fall part twelve - i can't think of a clever name for this one
basic summary: marvin visits naomi, and henrik decides to look for anti.
trigger warnings: extreme distress, destructive behaviours, talk of medication, brief seizure, implied suicidal ideation
just an extra warning - this chapter contains an extreme, destructive breakdown of a character that might be upsetting if you're triggered by that. i just figured i'd stress that just in case.
the next week passed surprisingly normally, considering.
hecate was still pretty much on lockdown. kazuki and several other magicians, some even from other branches around the country, had added some new, reinforced spells all around the entire place. almost no one but some of the higher ups were allowed in, and the damage control from one little break in was taking a long time. marvin was even involved, for some reason; kazuki had wanted him personally, most likely to do with jackie being his brother. he hadn't been happy about it, but he had always felt obligated to clean up other people's messes, including whatever the fuck jackie had gotten himself into this time.
speaking of messes, no one knew where anti was. he had disappeared not long after their trip to the music shop, going god knows where... the thought of him being free again was admittedly very annoying. but marvin comforted himself with the fact that anti was still very sick and there were wards around the flat, even stronger ones that kazuki herself had come round to install. they weren't sure what had happened to the original wards, either. kazuki said it was most likely caused by the breaking of the veil (which he and chase had filled henrik in on) and that it was nothing to be worried about anymore.
and speaking of that, marvin had started to notice more and more of the strangeness now happening around the city. people walking by like they were invisible, people repeating dialogue when faced with anything even remotely odd. "i suppose that explains why ellie and parker acted so strange when i visited," henrik mused after the whole thing had been explained to him. then he told them about that problem in turn, including the glitched out car, and they all agreed it was a very fucked up situation. apparently, the problem was "being managed" (kazuki's words), and marvin honestly was too done to look too far into it.
it was early one afternoon that marvin was in the kitchen with henrik, somehow managing to talk completely normally with him. their relationship had definitely been pretty stiff for a while, considering all the anti stuff, but for the time being, they had reached a silent, temporary truce. that was good enough for marvin. "how'd you sleep?" he asked, as way of greeting.
"same as usual," henrik mumbled, face practically in his cup of coffee and glasses slipping off his face. maybe that had been a dumb question. "as well as i probably could have, given…" he sat up slightly, waving his hand in a clumsy circle.
marvin nodded, setting about making toast. he was never hungry for much lately. "try and relax or something. you always work too hard."
"well, someone has to," henrik snapped. then he blinked, letting out a shuddering sigh. "i didn't mean that."
"i know," marvin said quietly.
they didn't say a lot after that until someone knocked on the door.
"are you expecting anyone?" marvin asked, to which henrik shook his head and set down his cup, suddenly looking nervous. with anti's location unknown and jackie having managed to break through even hecate's defenses, his paranoia has been at an all time high, and his eyes widened upon seeing marvin stand to go see who it was.
"wait, what are you -" he started, breath catching as he shrank back. his hand that he'd held up in a "stop" gesture hung in the air uselessly. "i - is it -"
marvin smiled softly. he used to get so frustrated with henrik's constant fears and worries, but he knew now to be more patient about them, especially as of late. "it's fine, hen. see?" he peeked through the small rectangular window on the door and blinked when he saw who it was. "uh. it's not anti."
he pulled open the door. "lucas?" he said questioningly, smiling despite his confusion. "how did you get our address?"
the blonde on the doorstep grinned back and laughed awkwardly. "oh, naomi told me a while ago. just in case i ever had to go save your asses in an emergency." then his smile slipped, and his gaze fell to the ground. "actually, that's… kinda what i came here to talk about. if that's ok."
"no, no, that's fine," marvin insisted, stepping aside to let lucas in. the man smiled at henrik, who grinned weakly, silently moving his hands under the table to hide how they shook. marvin raised an eyebrow at him as lucas went by. "do you want coffee or tea?" he asked, to which he responded "tea" and marvin set about making it. lucas stood awkwardly for a second before marvin offered him a chair and he sank down next to henrik, who quietly shuffled his chair an inch or so away. everyone noticed. no one commented.
"so… what's up?" marvin asked, drumming the table with his fingertips. lucas hesitated, blowing the air out of his cheeks.
"naomi's definitely been acting strange lately," he started. "i've tried talking to her a few times, texting and on calls, and she always sounds so off."
marvin frowned. "off how?"
lucas touched the side of his neck, scrunching up his face. "well, she's texting differently. usually just, like, one word answers. and i… this sounds so dumb, but she never usually makes so many typos as she does now." he laughs awkwardly. "i didn't think you could make that many, uh, typos in one word. but, yeah. and she sounds different on call too, when she answers. she gets pissed off if i ask why, though. has anything happened to her recently?"
something banged down the hall, and they could hear someone padding towards the kitchen. "morning, assholes," came a loud, cheery voice, and chase popped round the doorway. his hair was down for once, a curly blonde mess around his shoulders, and he was wearing an oversized black t-shirt over his boxers. he froze when he saw lucas, his grin immediately morphing into an expression of horror.
lucas had gone very red. "afternoon, chase," he said in a slightly higher pitched tone than usual. he glanced down at his tea again, not making eye contact.
chase didn't even say a word. he just darted from the room again, face on fire.
"well, that was fun," henrik said drily after a moment.
"sorry about chase," marvin said, holding back a giggle at lucas's face. "he's just like that."
"oh - oh, yeah, ok," lucas stammered, seeming just slightly flustered. he cleared his throat, smoothing his hair back before he continued. "anyway, what was i saying?"
"naomi acting weird," marvin said. he tossed his head to get hair out of his face while he thought. he suddenly wondered why lucas had come round to talk to him about this instead of texting or something. "yeah, she did say she was feeling off. i don't know, we've not been speaking as much as usual."
henrik suddenly got up and went to wash his mug. lucas watched him go before turning back to marvin. "what has she said to you? sorry if it seems like i'm being nosy or something, i just - i care about her a lot. she's always been really sweet to me, i guess."
something hot and unpleasant panged in marvin's chest. he didn't pause to think about what it could mean. "she said some more - some personal stuff. i don't know how much you know, but - yeah. i'm gonna go visit her today, maybe."
lucas nodded, grimacing. "sounds like a plan. i really hope she's ok. tell her much love from lucas, ha."
marvin chose to ignore the tight clenching of his chest and gripped his mug with white fingers, nodding like a bobblehead and resisting the urge to bite his lip again.
henrik made a small noise of surprise as he fumbled in the sink and nearly dropped his mug again. "sorry, sorry," he said when he realised lucas was looking at him again. "i'm a bit clumsy this morning, i think."
marvin could see how his hands were shaking. "i'll dry," he offered, and henrik smiled gratefully. lucas dithered at the table, folding and unfolding his hands.
"so how goes the search for anti, marvin?" he asked, and they made small talk for about ten minutes while marvin and henrik did the rest of the dishes. it seemed henrik was adjusting a bit more to having someone new in the house, and even chatted with lucas a bit himself. marvin mentally thanked lucas for being so incredibly sweet and patient. he was the perfect person to help henrik get used to talking to other people again.
a door crashed open somewhere, and there was a pause before a bright red chase entered the room, grinning nervously. he had brushed his hair and pulled it back into a ponytail extending from the back of his cap, and he was now wearing a bright yellow hoodie and black jeans. "morning, my wonderful brothers and also lucas, who i didn't know was here today and i apologize greatly for calling an asshole earlier," he announced, giving an embarrassed giggle at the end. henrik rolled his eyes.
"oh, so you're not sorry for calling us assholes?" he said jokingly. he and marvin laughed as chase flipped them off and planted himself at the table, just across from lucas.
"apology accepted, chase," lucas grinned. "i like your hoodie."
chase's shoulders shot to his ears and his face somehow went redder. "thank you, thank you. got it at… primark." the two of them made eye contact for a moment, and there was a second of awkward silence as marvin felt his phone vibrate and pulled it out to look at it.
"naomi's texting me. i'll probably go round to hers today," he said, already deciding what to send back. "will you guys be ok here? hen?" he looked up at his younger brother, and henrik blinked, surprised, before a small grin broke across his face.
"we will be fine, yes," he said quietly, not looking right at marvin. "thank you for asking. i might go out later too, actually. something i have to do. though -" he turned to look at chase. "i'm sure this one will be fine here, won't he?"
chase stuck out his tongue, face flushing, and marvin went to ruffle his hair as he went by before realizing he might not want to take off his hat with lucas here and instead smacked the top of his head. "yeah, be good. lucas, you can vibe here for a bit if chase and henrik are cool with it. see you."
"say hi to naomi for me," lucas smiled. and that's when marvin couldn't just not say anything anymore.
"couldn't you just tell her yourself?" he said without thinking twice. "i was under the impression that you guys were maybe… together, or - or something."
lucas blinked, then laughed loudly, tossing back his head. "oh no, i - marvin, i'm gay," he explained, giggling. henrik snorted into his coffee, ducking his head. chase made a strange sound that marvin had never heard him make before. and marvin just stood for a moment, taking that in.
"you're - oh! oh, shit!" he said. then he laughed too, out of surprise. "oh, i'm a dumbass!"
"marvin, i am begging you to just go before you make an even bigger fool of yourself, you oblivious asshole," henrik giggled. he was shaking with laughter, head on the table and holding his coffee in front of him. "please. i cannot take this so early in the fucking day."
"ok, fuck you, whatever," marvin spluttered as he put on his coat at the door. "i hate all of you. bastards."
they were still laughing as he left.
-
naomi wasn't in the shop. she did, however, leave the door unlocked, texting marvin to go right in. he had done this before, but it felt different somehow. colder. the door to naomi's flat was open too, and he went inside, shivering slightly.
"nai?" he called. her flat looked even messier than usual; an immediate bad sign. "hey, i'm here."
he heard a grunt from her bedroom. he knocked hesitantly, making a face that she couldn't see. "hey there. are you alright? should i… come in?"
a pause. "mm," she hummed quietly. "if you want to."
marvin took that as a yes. he slowly opened the door before stepping inside, leaving it open behind him. her room was a mess. vines growing unattended on the pale green walls, clothes thrown around without care, books torn up and ruined, a lamp knocked over on the floor. it looked like someone had tried to destroy the place. his heart dropped when he saw naomi sprawled across her bed in leggings and a baggy pink hoodie, eyes closed. "oh, hjärtat, what's wrong?"
"i don't know," she mumbled. she had clearly been crying; her face was red and splotchy, and the carpeted floor was scattered with used tissues. "everything, maybe."
marvin gave a small sigh and sat down gingerly on the end of the bed, hands folded in front of him. naomi didn't move to accommodate him, and just stared at him with half lidded eyes. "have you taken your medication?" he asked tentatively.
"no point," she said softly. she turned her head away, pressing her cheek to a tear stained pillow. "it never helped me anyway."
"yes it did," marvin protested. "you haven't had an episode in years."
"hadn't," naomi corrected. "it was only a fucking matter of time."
marvin was silent for a moment. what could he say? "nai, i'm - i'm sorry."
"don't be," she said. she suddenly sounded more cheerful, a false warmth that marvin immediately didn't like. "not your fault."
he clicked his tongue, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. "if you go back to the doctor's, they can try and prescribe you new meds -"
"i'm sick of meds!" without warning, she leapt from her bed to her feet, causing marvin to yelp and fall back. naomi twirled round and round, leaves blooming on her fingertips and flying into the air. "i'm fucking sick of it, sick of being loopy, sick of being sad, sick of being mad! fuck this shit! fuck it, fuck it!"
marvin breathed deeply. he'd handled naomi in this state before, he could do it again. "listen a second," he tried, standing so she could hear him better. "naomi, sit down a second, k? i want to -"
"don't treat me like a kid!" she stopped spinning, rage suddenly alight in her eyes as her gaze burned into marvin. "i get that maybe i act like one sometimes, maybe i'm immature, but i am a grown woman! why is it that people always forget that? just because i'm fucked in the head doesn't mean i'm incapable!"
"naomi!" marvin cried, shocked. he held up both hands to the sides of his head, trying to keep his expression and voice calm. "naomi, i'm not infantilizing you. i know you, ok? you're not normally like this -"
"what, insane, you mean? go on, you can say it!" she whooped, twirling towards the window and throwing open the curtains. bright light screamed through and lit up the room in daylight. "i'm always like this! always an asshole, a bitch - just ask kai! i hurt him when i was like this! just that stupid medication, thinks it can control me! nothing can control me anymore!"
"is that - is that why you stopped talking them?" marvin tried. fuck, but he couldn't remember who kai was either. "you thought they were controlling you?"
"they were!" she shouted. she blinked rapidly, rubbing her eyes and breathing heavily. "they've always been controlling me, the fucking things. making me all "ooh, sweet little naomi gudmundson who does flower magic and owns a flower shop and dates good magician boys and never cries and sings like snow white and makes fucking birds flock to her window!" well, well, could a lovely disney princess do this?"
marvin realised what she was going to do right before she did it. "nai, no!" he cried, but naomi shoved him away and curled out an arm, gritting her teeth and tearing her hand towards the ceiling. an enormous dragon tree suddenly began to crack through the floorboards, twisting into shape, branches and leaves sprouting and extending larger and farther out, hitting the sides of the room. marvin was very quickly running out of places to stand clear of the plantlife. "naomi, stop it!" he yelled, trying to get to her, but he couldn't even see her at this point. "you're going to hurt yourself!"
"like i care!" she snarled, and the tree shook, still growing rapidly and scraping the ceiling. "i don't give a shit about anything anymore! i'm tired, i'm tired, i'm so tired, i'm…"
she trailed off. the tree's growth slowed until it stopped completely, standing tall in the middle of the room. marvin quickly clambered over the roots to get to her, avoiding branches that swung at his face. "naomi," he said quietly as she came into view. her eyes were wide and unfocused, breathing heavily, hands hanging in the air in front of her. marvin gently took her arm and, when she didn't react, turned her from her tree and helped her sink to a part of the floor not covered in roots. "hey, hey, uh… lyssna på mig, listen to me, naomi."
"i ruined my bedroom," she whispered. staring at the floor with wet eyes. "i did that. it was my fault."
marvin stroked her hair back from her face. "hey. it's not your fault. your illness isn't your fault. you just - you have to take your medication, naomi."
she sniffled and dropped her head forwards into marvin's arms. "i'm sorry. so sorry. i'm - a skitstövel. i'm tired. i'm sorry."
she seemed to be coming down from the sudden mania rather quickly. marvin glanced up at the tree, wondering if there was a way he could fix it. he sighed shakily. "not your fault. not your fault, nai. don't say such things about yourself, we can fix this, we can fix this, ok? jag älskar dig, i love you and we can fix all this. listen to me. listen to my voice, naomi."
neither of them were sure how long they stayed they. but it was a long time before either person let go of the other.
-
henrik knew this had been a mistake the second he arrived at the metal gates.
first off, he wasn't sure how to get in. he assumed anti glitched through when he needed to, but henrik was clearly going to have no choice but to climb the fence. fuck, he was grateful that he'd been working out a bit more lately. even then, his arms screamed at him the whole time and he practically fell off down to the other side.
"anti!" he yelled, pushing himself to his feet and stumbling to the empty stone doorway of the abandoned waterworks. "i know you're here, asshole!"
no response. henrik obviously hadn't expected one. instead, he stepped inside, his footsteps echoing through the enormous, dim grey room. marvin had told him that hecate had already looked for anti here, but henrik knew the man far better than marvin did, whether he liked it or not. anti was here. and henrik was going to find him.
"anti!" he called again. the stairway was very narrow, the steps made of thin stone with gaps at the edges. henrik's legs felt like jelly as he climbed them, wishing there was a bannister to hold onto. "it's me, henrik. you know me. fucking unfortunately." he added this part on slightly quieter before raising his voice again. "i want to talk to you."
anti was in the first room on the top floor.
he was sitting on the ground cross legged with a silver laptop on his legs, rapidly typing one handed and leaning against the wall. his hair was pulled back in a small ponytail, a dirty yellow scarf wrapped around his neck. he barely looked up as henrik came in and stared at him, cold ice filling his veins at the sight of the man who'd kidnapped and tortured him for two whole months.
"anti," henrik said, much quieter. he winced at how his voice shook with sudden fear. he clenched his fists and tried to look more intimidating. "you're - you're not supposed to be here."
anti just kept typing. henrik frowned. "where the hell did you - where did you get that computer? are you even getting wifi up here?"
"stole it, and yeah," anti signed. one handed, again. "you forget what i am. i can do anything. or i used to be able to. i had to steal this the old fashioned way. it's funny that the only apparent aspect of my power that the red spandex bastard left me was the ability to be a walking hotspot."
henrik really didn't know what to say to that. anti finally looked up, his brown eyes dull and face ashen. "are you just going to stand there? what do you want?"
henrik's mouth opened and closed, and he took shaking breaths to try and calm himself. "i - i don't… know." his shoulders slumped, and his gaze fell to the floor. "i don't know. maybe i wanted to turn you in to hecate, maybe i wanted to kill you. i don't know."
"kill me then," anti shrugged. "i wouldn't mind. i mean, you'd be completely justified -"
"i'm not gonna stoop to your level," henrik snapped. "and - and why are you only using one hand? didn't your cast get taken off?"
anti breathed out sharply through his nose. "it did, yes. are you staying here? i'm busy."
henrik titled his head. "with what? what the hell do you do up here?"
anti's gaze bore into henrik, scrutinizing him. "you're still afraid of me, aren't you, doctor? even now. even when i'm like this, you're still genuinely afraid of me."
"i am not," henrik lied. he straightened, trying to ignore how he was trembling. the knife he still kept in his trouser cuffs felt heavy. "i could fucking kill you if i wanted. i could've killed you the day you left jack and i held the knife that you planned to use on him. you're the pathetic one here."
anti shrugged again, smirking. "sure, sure. like you -"
without warning, his body jerked, and anti's face screwed up in pain. he made several strangled noises, trying to wrap his arms around himself, but they were suddenly shaking and twitching too hard for him to. henrik stepped back as anti shoved himself away from the wall, computer falling off his lap, and pulled his knees to his chest to bury his face in.
it only lasted a moment. once it had passed, anti gave several trembling breaths, sitting up again shakily and checking his laptop to see if it had been broken. he didn't look at henrik, just tried to go back to what he was doing. henrik swallowed, considering what to say.
"how long has that been happening?" he asked. he hated how he instantly had his professional doctor voice on, gentler for dealing with patients. he shook it off and went back to his normal tone. "the seizures, i mean."
anti rolled his eyes. "my whole life? you know this already, doctor."
"i meant -" henrik groaned frustratedly and didn't finish. "whatever. if you want to be an asshole, fine by me. i'm going."
"sure you don't want to take up the offer of killing me?" anti signed. "it'd be fun, i swear."
"go to therapy, you sick fuck," henrik called as he left. he didn't bother waiting to see if anti would say anything in retaliation. he just left the building, fuming and trembling with rage. why had he even bothered to come here? what had he accomplished apart from scaring himself? maybe he should have taken anti up on his offer after all. honestly, who would miss anti or care if he died? would henrik feel guilty afterwards? why was he thinking about this?
fuck, maybe he was just tired.
-
marvin didn't get home until late that night.
naomi was staying with one of her sisters while a few magicians from hecate fixed her shop. the tree had, apparently been "easy enough to get rid of," according to the plant specialist who had been sent to help out, but the entire room itself had been destroyed. alice - naomi's sister - had been very kind about it all. "i'll keep a good eye on her, and let you know if anything changes," she'd said quietly when marvin had pulled her aside to see if naomi would be ok. "and i'm sorry you, uh, had to see her melt down like that. i don't think she's had an episode that bad since she was a teenager."
marvin had smiled at her reassuringly. "hey, it's cool. i've dealt with things like this before. and i care about naomi a lot, so i'm willing to do whatever i can to help her."
now, the house was dark. "hel-lo?" marvin called as he stepped inside. not a single light on anywhere that he could see. "chase? henrik?"
his mind suddenly flashed back to just a couple months prior, to coming home and finding his brothers gone, house upturned, the stench of black magic thick in the air. his heart skipped suddenly, and he tore through the kitchen to the living room to try and find them. "shit, shit - guys! chase, henrik, where are -"
then he noticed. through the living room window, he could see into the back garden, and the two people sitting on the bottom step. chase and lucas, deep in conversation. no wonder they hadn't heard him. marvin sighed, relieved, and was about to turn away when he thought wait a second and looked through one more time.
chase and lucas were very close. hands practically on top of each others. marvin couldn't hear them, but he could see them laughing warmly, huge grins on their faces. oh, ohh. the realization struck marvin.
this definitely did explain a lot. no wonder henrik had called him oblivious. marvin laughed to himself and closed the curtains again, turning on the living room light to let them know someone was home. he could worry about where henrik was later. right now, he thought he just needed to sleep.
