I see people that are tryna get into emo and scene fashion make posts ab like needing help finding clothes or like styling their hair n the liek so I’m here to help. Who am I? Nobody but im like scenemo and very happy to help. Im gonna make a resource masterlist, starting with this post
It’s important to note that if you have the hair, anything you wear will look emo. Emo teens would really just wear just some normal clothing and it fucked! Keep that in mind
How do I find emo/scene clothes?
🇺🇸🇬🇧Check resale sites like depop, ebay, mercari, poshmark (mercari is not available in the uk). You CANNOT build a wardrobe overnight. You just cant. Be patient and just keep checking, I promise you will find something. Heres some things I’ve personally bought or found on these sites and the price usd just for reference (without shipping)// Beetlejuice striped ht skinnies $16.49// We the kings shirt $5.50// All time low shirt $5.50//Red plaid ht skinnies $10.50// Famous star and stripe shirt $5-10// Secondhand serenade shirt $10// A lot of fellow scene and emo ppl resell on these sites!! (Trashmob has a depop for example, so does oliver sykes???)
2-Thrifting. Ik you’re probably tired of hearing it bc duh but… =) Try some local thrifts, big companies either suck, are expensive or both. I’d buy my skinnies from here. Reminder that they don’t have to be black!! You can style black, white, blue, any color of jean. Even styles like flair or bootcut jeans.
🇺🇸HT REPLAY. NOBODY TALKS AB THIS. Hot topic has a thredup, they sell preloved clothing and its constantly updated. Its very discounted. For example a shirt that was initially $25 usd would be sold for $11-9 usd. This is as far as ik only in the us??
Diy, obv. Look at those. Aren’t they cool looking? Not being able to afford band merch doesn’t make you any less of a fan than ppl with huge collections, remember that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇺🇸🇬🇧Dont be afraid to check normal stores like target, tk maxx, and walmart, you’ll be surprised. Target has cute character jackets if you can fit kids sizes and walmart made that skeleton sweater vest they gotta have more up their sleeves.
🇺🇸Merchnow.com. They have HEAVENLY old band merch and posters. Like ptv, chiodos, sws, tdwp, coheed and cambria, before today, texas in july, even like icp. this might be a us only thing? If someone could check for me ilys
(Added on Nov 8 23)
🇬🇧Grindstore.com they’re like merchnow kinda, heavenly band merch
(Added April 29 24)
🇺🇸🇬🇧 Childrens clothes if you can fit into them a lot of childrens clothing are very good for a scene look
This is all I have for now, but if i come up with anything else I’ll definitely update this!!

hai idk if this has been asked before but where do you get your clothes??? and what stores do you recommend? i want to dress like you do but have no idea where to start...
hiiii !! aaaa i’ve been asked this a few times and i always feel a lil bad because the majority of my wardrobe is secondhand that i get from vintage stores i go to irl or from sites like depop/vinted/ebay etc - i’m sorry, i know it’s not very helpful ! :-(
i suggest the best thing to do is check out any vintage/charity shops near you, even antique markets/centres sometimes have a few clothing items (i recently found some pure silk vintage knickers/pyjamas at an antique centre that i plan to wear as regular shorts in the summer hehe) also keep an eye out for any travelling secondhand pop ups, in the uk there’s quite a few (my favourite being ‘preloved kilo’ !)
also use sites like vinted/depop/ebay etc and really think about the items you’re wanting when searching for them and use the tool bars to help, so basically instead of just searching ‘white mini skirt’ you can search something more detailed like ‘white lace rara skirt’ and then use the tool bar to help narrow it down even further so it’s your size and within your price range etc etc !
if you’re unsure of what to even look for to begin with though, start really looking at peoples outfits you like online and pick an item they’re wearing and try your best to describe it, google is your best friend here because if you don’t know the right terms for things you can always look it up ! you might not always find the exact kind of thing you’re looking for but you might find similar things and you can always search again another time to see if there’s any more listings (and if it’s something you really really want you can set up notifications for when things are listed with that description ! i have this for a few things lol)
the only site i regularly (ish) shop at that isn’t second hand is asos ! i don’t ever use it though to just browse for things, i’ll only go on there when wanting something specific and again, i’ll search it and use the tool bar to help narrow it down (asos have loads of stuff and a million different options on the tool bar so you can really narrow things down well !)
there’s absolutely other online stores i like too but i haven’t really shopped at them to suggest them (i don’t want to recommend a site i haven’t personally purchased anything from lol but if you want a list of them regardless just let me know)
and of course if i ever post an outfit you can always ask me where i got the stuff i’m wearing from :-) it’ll likely be secondhand but not always and even if it is secondhand, if there’s any labels inside i can let you know so you can try and search for it or something similar !! hope this was helpful in some way for you ♡

Instead of throwing stained, ripped and misshapen clothing in the bin, Britons are being asked to stick the dregs of their wardrobe in the post in a trial aimed at tackling the “staggering” quantity of textiles sent to landfill or incinerated each year.
A third of consumers do not know what to do with tops, dresses and trousers that can no longer be worn, figures show, with a similar number admitting to putting such items in their household waste bin.
Now unwearable clothes from any label can be returned in a prepaid postal donation bag left with a courier as part of the experimental tie-up between Marks & Spencer and Oxfam, which runs alongside its existing scheme for wearable items.
Katharine Beacham, M&S’s head of materials, sustainability and packaging, said the scheme made it possible for someone to clear out all their unloved clothing in one go. “Whether it is wearable or unwearable, we want it all,” she said.
M&S and the charity have for a number of years been working together on the “shwopping” initiative, in which customers drop off old clothing in exchange for loyalty card perks.
However, the postal scheme, which is being paid for out of a new £1m accelerator fund linked to the retailer’s ethical project Plan A, is part of a wider push to find ways to reduce textile waste. Research suggests the UK’s wardrobes contain 1.6bn items of unworn clothing.
The bags can be ordered on the Oxfam website, and individuals are asked to enclose unwearable items in a separate sack. With a fifth of consumers telling M&S they did not know how to discriminate on wearability, the anti-waste charity Wrap stresses that “wearable” clothing is clean, dry, in good condition and ready to be worn. “Unwearable” items are damaged in some way, for instance torn, stained, faded, or stretched.
Consumers can also use the service to donate preloved soft furnishings such as bed linen, towels, cushions, tablecloths and tea towels. However, the M&S in-store “shwopping” scheme continues to be for wearable, hand-me-down quality clothing only. Individuals are asked not to include soiled or contaminated clothing as it cannot be recycled.
Still wearable donations will be sold through Oxfam’s stores and website, while the “unwearables” will be responsibly recycled by a UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT) project. It is working on a blueprint for an advanced textile sorting and pre-processing (ATSP) centre that would be capable of turning clothing unsuitable for resale into new garments, resulting in a completely circular system.
Adam Mansell, the chief executive of UKFT, said urgent action was needed to tackle the “staggering amount” of textile waste that ended up in landfill or incinerated each year. “We’re aiming to encourage people to separate their items so that in future, worn-out clothing can make its way to an automated sorting facility and then be recycled into new textiles and garments here in the UK,” he said.

Amaze the world by learning an old Craeft!
Why was the brand created?
Working with Heritage Crafts, Craeft aims to save practices that are becoming endangered in the Uk by showing creatives how traditional crafts can be used in contemporary settings.
Block printing
What is block printing – The fact it is endangered
Block printing is the process of creating patterns on wallpaper and fabric by hand printing carved wooden or Lino blocks. Although block printing is more sustainable than most modern printing processes, the lack of training Oppurtunites and slower production speed mean it is classed as an endangered craft in the UK.
History
Dating back to the 9th Century Block printing is thought to be the oldest printing technique. Block printing arrived in Britain in the 16th century, where Britain became one of the first countries to adapt Indian and Chinese textile production processes to create hand printed wallpaper patterns.
By the end of the18th Century creating printed fabric design using Block printing became widespread in Europe, making it more accessible for lower classes as earlier imported fabric from India was exclusive for the upper class.
However, due to rise in digital printing there are only 2 surviving printing houses who use the traditional block printing techniques left in the Uk.

Week Six; The Slow Fashion Movement.
This week's module explored the influence of online fashion and the roles digital communities and influencers play in assisting the slow fashion movement.
Slow fashion involves adopting slowing down unsustainable fashion engagement and supporting companies that use eco-friendly and sustainable production and manufacture. Changing your personal fashion values when shopping online, and investing in more sustainable practices and durable apparel that is irrelevant to the season or current trends is part of being a good digital citizen. (Domingos, M, et. al, 2022)
The World Bank (2018) outlines some of the detrimental impacts of fast fashion.
The fashion industry uses 93 billion cubic meters of water.
20 % of wastewater worldwide comes from fabric dyeing and treatment.
Finally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of annual global carbon emissions
Companies such as Zara and Shein are contributing to fast fashion and often use greenwashing techniques showcasing long and complex reports on their websites showcasing plans for sustainable business models acting as a surface level band-aid to entice undereducated customers.
Companies like Shein uses directory pages online to showcase their plans and aims to become a more sustainable business model
This article by Earth.org exposes their greenwashing techniques.
"Shein has also stated they intend to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030. However, in order to align with the Paris Agreement to keep global temperature under 1.5C, fashion industries are required to reduce their global carbon emissions by 45% by 2030"
Tumblr media
Moonsun Choi & Dean Cristol discuss the unidimensional approach to digital citizenship explaining that being a digital citizen means using technology in a positive way (2021, p. 362). As a responsible and ethical digital citizen, online engagement with slow fashion is imperative to continue sustainable fashion practices online.
The growing desire for unique pieces influences the prices online shoppers are willing to pay with Domingos, M, et. al. (2022) stating “exclusivity is related to any human being’s need to be perceived as different from others, enhance self-esteem and social image, mark a position, and consequently to avoid mass consumption (p.9).
This has developed popular online applications such as Depop that stray from the confines of a particular set of brands and acts as a digital thrift store. This benefits multiple aspects of the slow fashion movement, specifically eliminating mass consumption and the reuse and upcycling of preloved apparel.
Supporting Depop influencers who educate and advocate for timeless fashion over trending seasonal pieces is apart of becoming a sustainable and ethical digital citizen.
Georgina Quach's article outlines the rise of applications as sustainable fashion transitions online adapting to appeal to digital communities.
Depop based its strategy on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, but unlike other sustainability reports, Depop’s report is brief and pointed. There are more than 26 million buyers and sellers who use the site with more than 90% of users being Gen Z, indicating it is successfully targeting the correct demographic: social media generations. Week 4
Kilo Sale Market Research
I visited a kilo sale ran by ‘Preloved Kilo’ in Bournemouth. The company goes to different locations in the UK, often churches for the space, and gives customers the opportunity to buy vintage clothing and 2nd hand items for bargains, the extent of the bargain based on the price.
The clothing ended up being more expensive than I expected, Hoodies rounding from £15-25 dependent on the weight, coats around £30, with tops anything up to £7 ish. Based on my observations of the other shoppers, the people really considered what they were buying, so didn’t mind spending more than you might at a charity shop, especially as they knew they were getting high quality vintage items, rather than recycled fast fashion.
The clothing was sectioned into shirts, dresses, denim, shorts, skirts, tops, jackets, hoodies and knitwear.
Entry was £2 to enter the event, and it was very popular throughout the day, which shows that people don’t mind paying to gain access to better quality vintage/preloved clothing. This could mean that a subscription service or additional fee on an eBay application could be effective if it gave users more access to more easily buy and sell for better items.

Heidi Boo provides parents with Affordable Preloved Clothes that will help them save a lot of money, which can go into taking care of their little one’s needs as they grow up.
Tumblr media

hiii honestly i get most of my wardrobe from secondhand/vintage stores i know irl !!! i always recommend checking any out in your area if you’re able to, also keep an eye out for travelling vintage pop ups ! there’s a few in the uk (preloved kilo is my favourite and they’re somewhere literally every weekend so they’re a good one to look out for if you’re in the uk) and i’ve seen people i follow in america post about going to a few too but idk of any names of any overseas (sorry !)
also check out vinted, ebay, etsy and depop etc etc .. if you find a seller on them with similar taste to you then that’s always good because you’ll likely like most of their uploads lol but yeah always have an idea of what you’re looking for with them though !! scrolling on those sites to just browse is never the best imo because you cant properly find anything idk like the more accurate you are with describing what you’re looking for the easier your search will be
this being said there are some stores online that i do like, but because i haven’t actually purchased from them myself (yet) i don’t wanna recommend them incase they’re not the best quality or whatever . but let me know if you want a list of those ! alternatively you can just look at who i follow on ig because it’ll be the same stores listed lol (my ig is @ saturday14th)
oh and if i ever post a photo in something feel free to ask where i got it !! ♡

The Fashion Cycle, Influencers & the Sustainable Fashion Movement (Week 6)
Tumblr media
Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, the way that society consumes products has drastically changed. This was especially true in regard to how people have subsequently viewed clothing and fashion as consumers no longer had to commission clothing to be handmade as they could now purchase machine-made, ready to wear clothing. What was not anticipated however all that time ago would be the drastic increase in the production of clothing and the harmful impacts it would have on our environment. What was also not anticipated would be the impact of social media and influencers on this consumption and the rate at which trend cycles would change.
Influences, especially on social media platforms like TikTok, have helped accelerate the trend cycles. Traditionally the trend cycle used to last approximately 20 years however analysts are seeing this cycle of “introduction, rise, acceptance, decline, and obsolescence” drastically diminish (Rudalevige 2021). Influencers have also accelerated the rate at which microtrends last, what used to last between three to five years “now enjoy mere months or even weeks of must-have status” (Rudalevige 2021).
Tumblr media
What has emerged to combat these ever-accelerating cycles is the sustainable fashion movement.  The movement encourages slow fashion, “[advocating] for buying better-quality garments that will last longer, and values fair treatment of people, animals, and the planet along the way” (Hill 2021). This movement is ever increasing in popularity as more aware that the fashion “industry in itself needs to change and become more environmentally and socially responsible” (Lai et al. 2017, p.88). The sustainable fashion movement also encourages a circular fashion cycle, in which people buy or swap previously owned second-hand clothing instead of purchasing new. To aid in this, organisations such as Big Sister Swap allow you to “send in your unwanted clothes and receive handpicked preloved clothes in return” (Big Sister Swap 2022).
