#pre-HTTYD Hiccstrid

What Dreamworks Should Have Done With HTTYD
I think that instead of making spin offs, Dreamworks should fully animate deleted scenes and sell a collection of them. Like the scene “An Axe to Grind” in HTTYD, I mean, who doesn’t love a whole pre-HTTYD Hiccstrid, am I right? And what about that cute cuddle bit at Itchy Armpit we missed? And those six months between the end of RttE Season four and the second episode of Season five? They could do a collection of one shots almost, just cute canon fluff. What if we got to see Toothless’ eggs hatch? Maybe a sweet short about Toothless and Hiccup ruling their world’s without the other, their struggles, and how they overcome them? A sweet Uncle Gobber taking care of Hiccstrid’s babies? Some Rufflegs content? How about Heather and Dagur? Were they notified when Berk moved? It would be harder to keep in touch with no Terrible terrors, but surely they would visit often? Maybe some scenes we missed at Hiccstrid’s wedding? And everyone loves Babycup/Stoick bonding time. Maybe even some young Astrid or the rest of the gang? Fans would most certainly buy that content I am sure, and it would have been a better option than insulting the entire fandom with The Nine Realms (the show itself certainly isn’t the worse in history, but after it’s predecessors, it’s a total letdown). Hello, Dreamworks, if you ever go on Tumblr to read fan opinions, maybe you could consider it?
Were there any bits I could have missed? What between the scenes content would you loved to have seen?

I am just so in love with pre-adult Hiccstrid
Like, the two of them…just baby-faced, still maturing teenagers, one of them a scrawny freckled fishbone and the other a tough, no-nonsense warrior. Neither of them are good with feelings, and both are just SO teenagerish and awkward and bumbling around each other, like “haha I’ve kissed you on the mouth several times now but haha we’re just friends” type thing and “thank you milady” which NO person calls another person “milady” in a “friendly” way and. Ugh. Most hiccstrid content is them post-canon, or when they’re “hotter” but I just ADORE that awkward, clutzy teenager dynamic when they’re both dorks who have no idea how to deal with feelings.

Saw your tags on the rayllum vs hiccstrid poll lol. I'm rayllum all the way, like I assume you are. But I've watched both series all the way thru and just wanna clarify that the majority of hiccstrid shippers also watched both of the tv series (the first on was on tv for two seasons & pre-time-skip, and the second on is on netflix and is after they aged up a bit, but before the second movie). If you've only seen the 3 films, it def looks like Hiccup & Astrid are just suddenly a thing, i agess. The netflix series covers the hiccstrid friendship, and eventual courtship, more. This is where most of the die-hard shippers were won over. And it's worth noting that both the HTTYD tv series def had some of the most sophisticated tv villains i've seen tho; they're way better written than the film villains lol.
(here is my reblog with the tags in question for anyone interested)
Hm, right, there was some additional HTTYD stuff. I remember watching the series on Netflix ... for a while. But apparently I didn't find it convincing enough, and halfway (?) through I lost interest and just stopped. Not sure what my issue with it was, but I think I would have preferred something less episodic and more serialized with more main plot. Wouldn’t be surprised to see significantly worse imdb ratings for the series than for the movies, but idk, it’s been a while^^

Conversation
Heather: Hiccup's really in his element with this engineering stuff, huh?
Astrid: I wish he'd be as in his element with me... Oops, did I say that out loud?
Heather: Wait, are you two -?
Astrid: Together? No. Maybe not ever, at this point.
Hiccup: Hey Astrid. What were you talking about with Heather just there?
Astrid: Oh, y'know, just girl stuff. Life and love and longing and relationships...
Hiccup:
Astrid:
Hiccup:
Astrid: ...Dragons. We were talking about Dragons.
Hiccup: Cool!

What if the rayllum kiss is kinda like Astrid and Hiccup's first kiss? I could totally see that
honestly this rayllum cap really reminded me of this one from httyd2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like whether romantic or not these kids clearly mean the world to each other and support and love each other so much and it’s wonderful to see, so i can definitely see (and only hope!) that rayllum will continue to have more hiccup and astrid parallels as time goes on

6. “I need a place to stay.” (from @thelastinspiritdragonrider :D)
Oh my goodness, I am SO sorry this took so long to get out! I completely forgot about these requests waiting in my inbox. *hides* Well, here it is! And home young Hiccstrid to tide you over. ;) (Pre-movie)
Enjoy!
                                                              oOo
Thunk!
Astrid's whirling axe sunk into the tree in front of her, and the young girl panted heavily, letting her anger dissipate and then gathered it back up again.
So what if she was a girl? She could handle an axe just as well as any man. Better than any man, really. But of course, that idiot Snotlout didn't think so. All he thought she was good for was being pretty. Well, she would show him. She'd show him that she was much better than he'd ever be, and vowed to herself that he'd pay for his ignorance.
"AaaaAARRGGHHHH!" She leapt forward, grabbed her axe out of the tree's trunk in one quick motion, and then swerved around to fling it at another tree again, when-
"Pleasedon'tkillmeIdidn'tknowyouwerehere," a very meek voice said.
And then, out of a wiggling bush stepped a smallish boy with brown unkempt hair, hundreds of freckles dotting his cheeks, wide green eyes, and a pleading expression.
It was Hiccup Haddock.
Astrid's raised arm lowered to her side, but her glare didn't lessen in the slightest. "What do you want?" she demanded, marching up to him angrily.
Hiccup, eyes widening, struggled to get away but she grabbed his arm before he could move far.
"I asked you a question, Hiccup, what do you want?" she repeated.
Hiccup paused, his mouth opening slightly before it closed again. And then he slowly looked down at the ground, sadness suddenly clouding his eyes as his chin trembled. Astrid's anger lessened a little at the sight, and she felt something like pity gather inside her for the boy.
That was when she noticed the ugly, black and blue bruise on his arm... and it wasn't from her iron-grip clench.
Allowing her voice to soften to a more comfortable tone, she said, "Don't worry. I'm not going to kill you. At least not today." The last part was meant to be a joke, but Hiccup's eyes widened a little.
His head raised some, almost as if gathering his courage to say something, before he looked away. "No, nevermind..." He kicked at the dirt. "I-I'll just... go somewhere else."
There was no mistaking the fear in his voice.
Astrid sighed, pulling away from him. "If that's how you want to be, then fine. It's clearly none of my business." She paused. "But." She met his eye steadily. "Who gave you that bruise on your arm?"
"Hmm?" Hiccup stared down at his right arm blankly, as if noticing it for the first time.  "Oh. That one."
"Yeah, that one. Who did that?"
"No one." The words were a little too quick. Almost defensive. "I-I... I just tripped."
Astrid pinched her brow. "Hiccup, don't lie to me. You know, you're a terrible liar."
The smaller boy's shoulders dropped, too tired to keep from protesting any longer, and he looked away again. "Fine. It was... it was Snotlout."
"Snotlout?" Astrid's eyes burned with anger, and her fingers itched for her axe. "Why did he do that?"
"I don't know!" Hiccup looked back at her, green eyes shimmering in something like desperation. "I was just taking a walk and then he hit me!"
A moment of silence passed between the two children before Hiccup spoke again, this time more softly.
"Look. I need a place to stay. He-he's mad that I got away and... I'm scared of what he's going to do if he finds me."
Astrid folded her arms, examining the pleading boy before her. She didn't doubt that Hiccup wouldn't be able to take on Snotlout by himself. He was too skinny, too wiry... too...
Too weak? a voice inside of her said. That's what you always called him before.
But he isn't that weak, Astrid thought back to herself. She bit her lip. Just scared.
"Hey," she said, nudging him on the shoulder with her elbow. "Why don't you stay here for a little bit? Just until things with Snotlout cool down."
Hiccup looked up at her in clear surprise, cocking his head. "R-really? You'd... let me stay here, with you?"
"Only for a little while," she reminded him. "I don't like Snotlout much at the moment, either. I think we'd both be better off together."
"You mean it?" Excitement replaced the past dreariness upon the boy's face, and now a relieved grin stretched from cheek to cheek. "Thank you, Astrid. It-it means so much!"
"Yeah, yeah, don't get too over yourself now," she brushed off, already turning around back to her cove of dented trees. "Now, come on. I'm training and can't spare any more time dawdling. You'll keep an eye out for Snotlout and his idiot friends while I train. Got it?"
"Sure!" Hiccup chirped, still alight with eagerness. "And it's a beautiful day, too, Astrid. A real beautiful day. Perfect for training. Is that why you're training today, or do you just train every day? I'm guessing you train every day. How else would you get so good with the axe? Me, I'm good with nothing. Dad tried to train me with the sword once, but it didn't go down well so I'm mostly working in Gobber's forge nowadays. Do you think I could ever use an axe? What weapon do you think would be best with me? A sword? A spear? Ooh, what about a mace..."
His words echoed around in Astrid's mind as she continued to slam her axe against the trees, but she didn't have the heart to tell the kid to be quiet.
It's just for a little while, she reminded herself. And who was she to ban him from talking
So, they stayed like that for the next hour: Astrid swinging her axe at the trees while Hiccup happily chatted away.
They were as different as the sun and the moon, yes, but for that brief moment in time, well...
They truly couldn't have been more alike.

...If you ever go on a seemingly impossible wild-goose chase and need a little company... you can always count on this axe, brother.
Dagur the Deranged, to Hiccup
Still thinking Endeavor as a wedding gift would make a great traditional ancestral sword, and that the hunt for it pre-wedding would make a fantastic Short in itself. Now thinking that Hiccup calling on Dagur to help him would make an even more fantastic Short.

Hiccstrid 13
Smutember day 13, Messy Hiccstrid, HTTYD, 1.5k, E
(Ao3)
If you liked my story, here’s a Ko-fi link if you’d be so kind ❤️.
=====================
- Oh, looks like someone's a picky eater again...
The chieftain's hut was filled with baby's wailing after another spoonful of oatmeal mush didn't land in Zephyr's mouth, but covered a much larger area around the wooden baby table Hiccup constructed for their daughter. Astrid had some experience feeding baby dragons, but as it turned out, those learn much faster to catch living fish than human beings deal with a very much dead wooden spoon.
- Honey, i think I will need some help. - Astrid called for her husband, who quickly joined her in front of their daughter. - Oh, look I got something better than breakfast... dragons!
Hiccup jumped from behind his wife, carrying in his hand a small, shining, metal model of a dragon, though with unusually large head. At once, the baby stopped crying and eyed the toy carefully.
- See, this one has a huuuge jaw, because he needs to eat a lot, see?
Hiccup dipper the novelty spoon in the bowl of baby food and aimed it at his daughter's face.
- Watch out, here comes the dragon!
As if hit my a magic spell, Zephyr eagerly opened her mouth, welcoming the portion of the oatmeal right where it belonged. She didn't even squirm when her mother pressed the warm cloth to her face to clean up the mess she made before, while her husband continued feeding their daughter, who demanded more and more food with her stubby little hands.
- Would you put her to bed afterwards? - No problem, honey. Although, we might need a second serving of oatmeal - he looked at the nearly empty bowl, only half of which made it to Zephyr's tummy.
===============================
It took another half and hour for Hiccup to satisfy the hunger of their first born daughter, and another one to make the little ball of energy to finally fall asleep, but once he's done it, Hiccup could finally hit his own bed, where he was welcomed by his radiant wife with kisses.
- I swear, Hiccup... How do you do this? - I don't know, honestly - Hiccup replied truthfully - It just feels... natural, I think. - Well, I'm glad I have such a natural husband.
Her kisses continued across his jawline, while her hands sneaked underneath his shirt, tracing the muscles on his chest. Over the years Hiccup grew from a stick-figure into a handsome warrior, and though he was still nowhere near as muscular as a few "walking mountains" in the village, it was that physique that drove Astrid wild on nights like these.
The thin shirt has lasted w hole five minutes on Hiccup's body before he tossed it over his head, while Astrid continued her journey down his body, peppering it with short kisses, until she reached his pants, tied with an almost-decorative sailor's knot. And it was that tiny detail that made her grumble when she couldn't undo it at first.
- Looks like someone is hungry...
Hiccup reached and with a single pull of a string undid the knot, allowing Astrid to slide his pants down his thighs, leaving, as usual, a gentle kiss at the end of his stump. Their eyes meet, and the blonde warrior sneaked between his legs, marvelling at his length, before she cupped his testicles and placed a first, delicate kiss at his slit.
Hiccup let out a prolonged moan and threw his head back, losing the intimate connection with his wife for just a moment, but the enticing feeling of her wet mouth around his head and the hungry spark in her loving eyes made him look back at once.
Though Astrid considered Hiccup far more skilled with his fingers, it turned out she wasn't doing a bad job either, sliding his skin up and down, while her mouth slowly conquered more and more of his shaft, giving her chance to taste and smell more of her husband's natural fragrance. She couldn't call herself very talented at loving him orally either, but once again, her job was much much simpler than his when he was going down on her.
With each inch she gobbled down, Hiccup's moan continued to rise, until he was almost moaning, biting on his pillow so that their daughter wouldn't wake up. Astrid breathed through her nose, getting light-headed from the musky scent, mixing with just a bit of a flowery smell of their soap, and as her tongue lapped around his head, she could already feel some of his salty pre-cum...
But as she fully expected Hiccup to explode in her mouth, his hand gently asked her to stop, and she looked up, he was already on her, pining her to their bed, with his hands on her thigh. This time she had to restrain herself from screaming as the world around her turned, but fortunately, his lips were already on hers, ready to silence any scream that might escape her mouth.
And ore of them followed as Hiccup sank inside her, feeling a completely new and different brand of warmth and wetness than her mouth, but equally welcoming him inside her. Her legs instinctively wrapped around his waist as he continued to build up speed with his thrusts, making their bed rattle with each minute of pounding, interrupted by his comments, spoken with breathless, ragged voice.
- Astrid, I-I love you. - I love you to-too, Hiccup. - she stuttered - But not today, you-you know that... - I do...
He spoke with just a hint of disappointment in his voice, but was met with her wide-eyed expression and a quick retort.
- Maybe... maybe next Summer...
She gave him one more kiss, and swiftly helped him pull out, just as he was about to flood her with his cum. Knowing the clock was ticking, he let go of her legs, resting on his shoulders and waddled towards her, eager to feel her fingers closing on his cock once more. Her hands swiftly did that, and she gave him just a few pumps, before his voice filled their bedroom. She opened her mouth, ready to kiss him, but it was too late.
The first rope of his thick seed landed on her naked belly, giving Astrid a false sense of how long has she kept her husband without any pleasure. The next one soared all the way to her face, landing between her eyes, and so di the next three, coating her face, breasts and rest of her body with large, thick droplets of his cum. Only when Hiccup took his twitching cock into his own hand and brought it to her hungry mouth, astrid was able to taste her husband's virility that until now covered most of her face and nightgown.
She closed her eyes and murmured, lapping her tongue around his head, and underneath her caresses, three or four more streams filled her mouth, a result of at least a week of celibacy the two young parents had to endure. She listened to Hiccup's voice becoming less and less shaking, as his orgasm slowed down, and with a final sigh he pulled out, gazing at the result of his explosive orgasm that added a few splashes of white to his radiant wife's blonde hair and blue dress.
- Well, you certainly are your daughter's father... - Astrid spoke, flicking away a strand of his sticky cum that covered her blue eye - You are as messy as her. - True, but given what I've seen, our daughter must have shared some propensity for messy eating from you, milady.
Hiccup dodged a swift punch from Astrid when she aimed at his crotch, and shook her head with a pitiful expression on her face. Face she still had to clean from her husband's expression of love.
- Oh, how I wish I could capture this moment... - he spoke dreamily, watching as she continued scooping his cum.   - No, I'm not gonna pose for a sketch with a ton of your... stuff on me. - she moved her fingers, watching as his seed divides into sticky strands.
But despite her contempt, she didn't hide her face behind a cloth she intended to use, but decided to give him a bit of a show, bringing globs of his seed to her lips, one by one, letting gentle moans as she revelled in the taste that still lingered in her mouth.
And though she made sure to never look away from Hiccup's eyes, she couldn't help but notice that with each tiny droplet of his cum that made it to her mouth, his limp cock was rising a few degrees. And when their eyes met again, she saw his lips curl into a smile as her hunger and lust betrayed her.
- Want a second helping? - Come on, I want your dragon...
Astrid moaned and opened her mouth, shivering as Hiccup's cock got closer and closer to her face.

You'd Come Back to Me
We've made it to day 3 of @httydhiccstridweek! Today's prompt was 'to discover/explore' + 'braids'
Summary: Sometimes, when she watched the way he threw his head back in the wind, eyes closing and savoring the moment, she wondered if there would ever be a day he wouldn’t stop flying. Was he even a Viking, or a dragon in human form lent to them by the gods for a short time? Was she destined to fall for someone divinely unreachable? Was it selfish of her to even want to chain him down with chiefdom if only to ensure he could never escape to the heavens without her?
Or,
Astrid contemplates growing up and gives Hiccup his braids
Read on AO3:
Hiccup had missed a spot, and Astrid couldn’t take her eyes off of it. He had finally cut his hair once his bangs fell so far into his eyes it was a problem when flying. A couple days ago he had come into the academy and Astrid had had to do a double take at the entirely new silhouette of his head. It was choppy looking, but it suited him. Somehow, his bangs that used to fall into his eyes and hide the bright pigment of green from the world had decided to defy gravity and stick almost straight up. The shorter bits around his face also served to highlight the sharp cheekbones and jaw that were emerging as his baby fat dropped off of his face. Astrid hadn’t really known there was baby fat on his face. He had been skinny for so long; she’d figured he was as fatless as healthily possible. But now, with the piercing green eyes under bushy eyebrows, Hiccup’s now tall frame coupled with that new straight jawline, the concept of growing up seemed a lot more important.
She was the only one who came to the academy every day. The twins had decided the dragon academy was more schooling than adventure, and had devoted themselves to pranking the poor citizens of Berk while Hiccup was busy teaching another lesson. For a while, the lessons had been just tracking the twins and stopping them before they caused another disaster. Snotlout quickly got fed up with the routine and announced his departure from the academy. He was to spend his days testing weapons now with Gobber, but if he was looking for sorrow from his comrades at seeing him go, he was severely disappointed. He wasn’t nearly as important as he thought. When Hiccup still helped Gobber out once a week, all of the weapons he made or repaired were always perfectly balanced and tempered - there was no need to check them further. She no longer checked her axe after he sharpened it. In fact, she usually had Hiccup check it when she sharpened it, as he could tell if it had the slightest of nicks or imbalance she couldn’t sense.
Fishlegs hadn’t wanted to leave the academy, but Hiccup had grown restless with his lessons, and now wanted to explore the Archipelago for new species. Then Fishlegs had been offered a position to help teach the young children of Berk, too young to properly bond and care for a dragon of their own. The Gronckle rider had accepted and now spent every day taking the kids for a ride on Meatlug, recounting various histories of the island, pointing to warriors and speaking of their achievements.
“Bushlout Jorgenson won the Thawfest for eight years in a row,” he’d say, to his audience’s awe. “Not even Spitelout Jorgenson could beat him . . .”
Astrid was growing up, too. She was taller now and at an age where the clucking of old aunties about the length of her skirt drew a frown from her mother instead of defending her against them. She had recut her bangs shorter than before, swept to the side instead of falling straight into her face. Her hair was lighter from riding in the sun so often, and her braid fell farther down her back. She sparred with seasoned warriors when she trained instead of just normal Vikings.
“You could join the Guard,” one of them praised her, and she thanked him but brushed the suggestion aside. Her days were already spoken for. She was the Heir’s right hand, and she couldn’t leave her post.
They were still kids, she kept telling herself, desperate to keep the comradery between her and the Heir as long as she could. Once they started accepting they were growing up, she would go on to become a warrior, everyone knew that, but Hiccup would become the Heir, flying around town or sitting in on council meetings. She wouldn’t see him anymore. The chief rarely ate early, and the Berkian warriors took their meals before night patrol. Hiccup rarely saw his father before he went to bed, and he had a habit of going to bed at ungodly hours. Stoick didn’t have much time for his son, and Hiccup had accepted that, but Astrid selfishly didn’t want to have to live with the same acceptance when it came to Hiccup’s time. They wouldn’t stay friends. He had Toothless for a friend, and the rest he could do without. Astrid would become just another soldier who faithfully followed his orders and he might look upon their time together fondly, reminiscing about ‘when they were kids’ while Astrid would miss him fiercely. Toothless was his first friend, and while Astrid had Stormfly, Hiccup had been her first friend.
So now, even as the seas came up empty, the many spires of rock bare, and Hiccup’s face stoick but disappointed, she stuck to his side, praying he’d know she wasn’t leaving, begging him not to leave her.
“What?” Hiccup turned to look at her. “You keep staring at something and it’s distracting me. Is there a dragon behind me?” He twisted his neck, trying to spot the glimpse of a tail.
“I - no,” Astrid assured him. “It’s just, um, your hair.”
“Does it look bad?” he asked immediately, his eyes wide.
“No!” Astrid exclaimed. “No, it looks good. Nice, a nice change. You just, um - you missed a bit.”
“Where?” he asked, hands going to his ear.
“Not there,” she brushed his hand away. He set his hand in his lap and flexed his fingers. “Right here.” She lightly gripped a few locks under his ear. Their length stuck out quite a bit from the rest of his hair. She combed her fingers through them and - oh. When had his hair gotten so soft? She couldn’t remember the last time she had touched his head but surely she would have remembered the soft, silky slide of his reddish brown locks through her fingers. It felt so fine it was almost ticklish, and her fingers started moving automatically, parting it into sections.
“What are you doing?” Hiccup asked, trying to turn to see what she was doing, but she tugged harshly at the hair in her hands. “Ow!” he yelped.
“Hold still,” she ordered. “I’m doing something.” She was braiding his hair. She was braiding his hair. What was she thinking? How could she not, though?
“Are you braiding it?” Hiccup asked incredulously. She gave him a stern look.
“Hush, all Vikings have braids.” Then, softer, “Do you want me to stop?” Hiccup hesitated.
“No,” he admitted.
“Good,” Astrid said, focusing on the task at hand. She finished one small braid and tied it off. Hiccup reached up to touch it but she smacked his hand away again. “I’m not done,” she scolded. He grumbled but acquiesced.
“There,” she nodded, satisfied, after she finished the second one. Hiccup reached up to touch them, mulling over the feeling and probably debating over whether to take them out.
“Don’t take them out,” she said. It came out like an order, but she knew it was a plea. Don’t forget me. Let me leave you with something to remember me by. She kept waiting for him to do something to ensure their continued companionship even when their duties went separate ways, but he never said anything. The old Hofferson aunties would cluck their tongues disapprovingly when she’d come home late at night, still without a firm promise from the Haddock boy to court her or whatever. She used to hate it; she wasn’t ready for courtship, couldn’t they see that? That was the only reason Hiccup hadn’t made any moves toward her. But as she grew older, putting the extra effort to add a little side braid in her hair before she went to meet him, the slight womanly additions to her clothes, he still continued to treat her as he always had, and now Astrid would bow her head, red faced with shame when one of the old crones shook her head at Hiccup walking her chivalrously to her door, with never a secure promise to return. She wondered now if he didn’t want to court her anymore, now that he’d seen her up close for years, witnessed her hot temper and her struggles to prove herself, her constant need for validation and how she coveted people’s admiration for her strength and honor - even her looks. She knew she wasn’t the only pretty girl who had shown interest in him, and though she was sure no one could quite compare to what she was to him, was that what he wanted?
She wondered where she went wrong sometimes. Should she have let Hiccup court her while they were becoming friends? Would that have made everything better? Or would she have broken their relationship off from the pressure of being a girlfriend before she learned to treasure their friendship? Now, she was way too invested in whatever they had to leave. Even if it was just friendship and Astrid following him to the ends of Midgard just to see him turn in his saddle and grin at her with that excited smile that lit up his eyes, she would take it. He was avoiding his responsibilities, and sometimes when she watched the way he threw his head back in the wind, eyes closing and savoring the moment, she wondered if there would ever be a day he wouldn’t stop flying. Was he even a Viking, or a dragon in human form lent to them by the gods for a short time? Was she destined to fall for someone divinely unreachable? Was it selfish of her to even want to chain him down with chiefdom if only to ensure he could never escape to the heavens without her?
Hiccup didn’t say much about the braids, and they continued to fly and explore, glancing fruitlessly into coves, skimming the surface of the water, flying high into the mountainous forests. Nothing. Not even many wild dragons were found, and all were too docile to warrant any new discoveries. He was frustrated, that draconic part of him itching for satisfaction and unable to find it yet again. She wondered if that frustration was all Hiccup, or if some of it was Toothless, too. Their bond was unlike anything she had ever witnessed, it wouldn’t surprise her to find their thoughts and wanderlust were somehow connected.
As they flew back to Berk, she saw him fiddling with his braids again. She wanted to warn him away from them; what if he undid them? Then she’d have to be annoyed with the accidental difference in length of his hair. At least with the braids in it looked intentional. Or - if he undid them, she supposed she might redo them for him.
Hiccup was terrible at braiding. It was almost funny: he could sew and work leather and cook quite well, especially for someone who had grown up without a mother. But he couldn’t braid. He always passed off braiding leather cords or rope to Ruffnut or her back when they all attended the academy. He wouldn’t be able to redo his braids on his own. He’d have to come to Astrid to have her redo them now. That was - that was actually a good idea. He didn’t have any good friends to do his hair other than her. The chief would never find time to braid - his own beard wasn’t as kept as Astrid’s father’s was, with Mother’s help. He never let Ruffnut get close enough to him, and Gobber wouldn’t be able to braid such tiny ones with his hook.
It was like that promise those old aunties kept complaining about her not having. It was a mark. Not for other girls who’d come and try to take the spot of Chieftess, but for her. That they were still friends. They could still fulfill the things no one else could for each other. It wouldn’t last, and it was stupid, but to her the braids felt like a promise to return. They were like the bonfire they kept lit on the tower to guide the ships to not break on the rocks, used to sometimes send out flares or reassurance that the coast was safe. As long as he had those, Astrid would know he’d come back to her.
And she’d dread the day he lost those trusty braids.

Requests!
(They are closed!!)
Tumblr media
Soooo I've decided to open up HTTYD requests! First off, though, there's some rules to go by:
I will write for any friendships in the fandom (for example, Toothless and Hiccup) but I will ONLY write for the Hiccstrid and Toothfly ships. But I would also love to do platonic fics for you!! The HTTYD gang makes me soft, and I would love requests for them :)
Keep your requests MINOR FRIENDLY. That means NO NSFW. Character death/injury is perfectly fine to request, but smut absolutely IS NOT. If your request deals with smut in any way, I will delete it (and block you).
Please don’t make the request anything longer than a oneshot! I already have enough multi-chapter fics I’m working on. I’d rather not have any more 😅 But oneshots are great!! Send em in!!
If the oneshot I write for you isn’t what you were looking for, please let me know respectfully :3 If you’re rude, you’re getting blocked, and I won’t be sorry :)
Don't even mention the fricking N*ne R**lms show. Please. It's not part of the fandom. I will block you.
Anywho, there they be!
🍂 Masterlist (for now): 🍂
Just Allergies?
Hiccup gets sick, and shenanigans happen. Pre-hiccstrid, but there is definitely hiccstrid in there ;)
Letting Go
Hiccup misses Toothless. It’s been a year.
Holding On
The sequel to the above; Toothless thinks of Hiccup.

@crazy4dragons- I finally finished the prompt..
“For your character clothing list, #5 (cold weather pajamas) on either Hiccup and/or Astrid!“  Also, who else would LOVE cups like these with the dragon symbols on them? :D

Whumptober Day 26: More Then A Simple Headache
Summary: Written for Whumptober Day 26. Post-RttE, Pre-Httyd 2. When ice and snow come to Berk, it means Hiccup's home will be covered in boobytraps he cannot see. And that means the occasional accident cannot be avoided.
Rating: General
Characters: Hiccup, Astrid, Toothless, Stoick
Pairing: Hiccstrid
Words: 1 397
Fandom: How to Train Your Dragon
Prompt: Concussion
Whumpee: Hiccup
Author’s Notes: Definitely a lighter Whumptober submission, probably more h/c than actual whump. But I had a lot of fun writing this one.
Constructive criticism is appreciated!
Enjoy
Ao3
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The hit is instantaneous and so is the pain in his skull. So are the worried rumbling and the gasp that follows his fall. It briefly becomes black before his eyes and Hiccup doesn't make an immediate attempt to get back up.
"Oh no, Hiccup! Are you okay?" Much like Toothless, Astrid is a witness to Hiccup's fall and comes over to help him back up to his feet. There's a smile on her face, though he can't tell if it's out of sympathy or slight amusement or both. Probably both.
"Stupid ice, stupid prosthetic." Hiccup mumbles under his breath as he takes Astrid's hand to get up, rubbing the back of his head as it pounds.
"Wow, I guess your hair isn't as helpful as I thought it'd be." She teases and wipes the snow off his person.
"Oh, making jokes, are we? Didn't think you'd take enjoyment out of my pain." Hiccup responds, dusting himself off. Toothless hovers around him, circling him and crooning.
"I'm-I'm okay, Bud. That was just a little embarrassing, is all." He tells him and pets his nose, though his pounding brain would like to disagree. This is why he doesn't like the cold. Everything freezes over and when you get as much snow as they do, you can't always see the patches of ice until your pegleg slips on them.
And it happened in the middle of the village, too.
"Ah, happens to the best of us, lad." A Berkian man tells him and claps him on the shoulder as he passes. Hiccup gives him a friendly smile, though it does nothing to lessen his embarrassment.
"He's right, this can happen to anyone." Astrid agrees and then watches him appear to taste something funny, his brows knitting together.
"What's wrong?"
"I think I bit on my tongue." Hiccup replies, tasting the uncomfortably metallic tang of blood on his tastebuds.
"Today is not your day, is it?" Astrid wonders out loud.
"Not my day to take a walk, apparently." Hiccup replies, resisting the urge to spit out the blood in his mouth as he continues on his way.
"You don't want to go by Gothi for a second? Have her take a look at that?" Astrid suggests as she follows, Toothless rumbles in agreement as he walks by Hiccup's other side.
"For something as trivial as that? I don't really see the point. Besides, what skull is thicker than a Haddock's?" Attempting to divert their concern elsewhere, Hiccup jokes and pretends like a hellish throbbing isn't currently knocking on the back of his head.
"A Thorston's is. And we don't say that you have thick skulls, we say that you are thickheaded." Hiccup gazes at Astrid in overly exaggerated offense.
"Excuse me, Mrs. Hofferson! You can't just go around insulting my entire clan like that! All two of us!" Astrid laughs and Toothless speaks up.
"Toothless, Bud, stop agreeing to everything she says."
As they walk away and push the incident to the back of their minds, a Terror by the name of Sharpshot lands on the spot where he'd just seen his human friend fall. He'd been in the area when he saw it happen and he needed to take a look.
He sees that he's right, that his eyes aren't deceiving him, as he notices tiny specks of red on the frozen ground.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Hours later, Hiccup sits at the dinner table with his head in his hands. The pounding inside has gotten worse throughout the day and he's begun to suffer from the light. Every time he just looks at a torch there's a sharp pain behind his eyes.
A block of ice drops on the table, making him jump.
"Ah, sorry, son." Stoick apologizes and comes to sit on the opposite side of the table.
"So what manner of trouble were you in today?" He asks.
"Trouble me? Since when?" Hiccup asks in return, already squinting in the dim light of his home.
Sharpshot jumps down from the rafters and makes a fuss on the table.
"Sharpshot, off the table! Hiccup!"
"Sharpshot, we don't have any leftovers for you, Buddy." Hiccup picks the Terror up like a cat and places him on his lap.
Feeling misunderstood, he starts yipping at Toothless instead, who raises his head in question from his spot by the fire. He murrs back and gets up, understanding the little one's plight. He trods over to Hiccup and starts sniffing his hair.
"Toothless, what're you doing?" Hiccup asks, drawing away and holding the spot he'd hit earlier.
"Hiccup, how hard did you fall this afternoon?" His father asks, probably having heard about it from someone else because why would his son tell him anything?
"I didn't hit the ground that hard." Hiccup tells him, but Sharpshot and Toothless both disagree as they protest.
"Your dragons seem to think otherwise," Stoick states, their reaction not lost on him.
Not finding any way to dispute that, Hiccup instead holds the back of his head quietly.
"And I noticed you've barely eaten. Feeling sick, do we?" So that about the leftovers is clearly a lie and Hiccup hadn't missed the way his stomach churned with nausea.
"It's not a big deal!"
"Clearly it is. Gothi should still be up at this hour, you're paying her a visit." Stoick decides and already gets up from his seat.
"Oh, I don't want to bother her at this hour," Hiccup speaks, watching his dad march towards the door.
"You should've thought of that before you decided to be stubborn." He tells him and grabs his cloak and Hiccup's furs.
"Oh great," Hiccup mutters and leaves his chair.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day, Hiccup still lies in bed late in the morning on Gothi's orders. He has only just woken up, but still feels just as tired as the evening before. Toothless lies in bed with him and is taking up the majority of the space. The dragon's head rests on his shoulder while Hiccup lies on his side.
He's looking up at Astrid through tired eyes as she leans against the post near the stairs to the ground floor.
"So what did she say?" She asks with a knowing, but still sympathetic, smile.
"Concussion." Hiccup sighs. Astrid nods to show him she heard him, barely fighting the smugness she feels.
"You want to tell me "I told you so"?" Hiccup asks, able to read it off her face.
"I do, but I won't." She says and approaches, sitting on the edge of the bed on what little space he has left. Hiccup watches her sit down, but then he closes his eyes. The candlelight on his bedside table might not be bright enough to hurt, but the pounding still demands that he not see a thing.
"How bad is it?" She asks, leaning on a hand.
"Bad enough that Gothi wants me to stay in bed?" Hiccup attempts to turn onto his back before he answers, but Toothless' size doesn't allow him that much luxury and so he has to settle for this.
"In that case," Astrid says and decides to divide Hiccup's space by half as she comes to lie in front of him.
"Oh come on, Astrid." Hiccup groans in dismay, but does take her in his arms.
"Don't you dare groan, I know you don't entirely oppose of this." She scolds him, pressing her ear against his chest.
"That's a really long way of saying that you see this as an excuse for a nap and you're not taking 'no' for an answer." Hiccup retorts. Doesn't matter if his head pounds or not, the sass must come.
Astrid laughs, but doesn't dispute that. Hiccup opens his eyes again, his concussion not stopping him from gazing at his girlfriend. Toothless' snoring fills the silence.
"Good night, Babe," Astrid tells him, not blind to the fact that it isn't even midday yet, and Hiccup nods to show her that he will in just a second. He takes a lock and puts it behind her ear. He does like having her here.
But then Hiccup closes his eyes to get the sleep that he needs. Not even half an hour later, Hiccup is asleep with his head on Astrid's chest. Astrid is still awake and running her fingers through her boyfriend's hair absentmindedly. She's content staying like this for a little while longer.

Fics I should probably finish during the quarantine...
Firstly, there’s the fics I started to write and publish online but are unfinished:
“To Find a Home” (FBAWTFT) - a Modesty centric fic that explored her character and paid her more attention than the movies have so far (feat. Newtina and Jakweenie)
“Rewriting the Stars” (FBAWTFT) - loosely based on The Grestest Showman. Newt Scamander accidentally joins a circus after falling head over heels for one half of the dazzling Goldstein Sisfers Trapeze act. (Newtina, obviously, with side Jakweenie and implied Picquery/Graves) (also Graves is a ringmaster)
“What I’ve Been Living For” (Alien/Alien: Covenant) - my Walter/Daniels fic that’s part of my AU that gives them the ending they deserved. Basically in this one Walter and Danny have their son.
“Start of an Adventure” (Narnia) - A Peter/OFC fic I started to write that currently has bits and pieces all over the place. Pretty self explanatory frankly.
(These can all be found on my AO3 or fanfic net accounts)
And then there are the fics that I started to write on my laptop but have not published for whatever reason (unfinished, writers block, etc.):
An Astrid and Stormfly friendship fic, looking at the development of their relationship over the years. (HTTYD obviously)
A fic looking at how Astrid’s thoughts/feelings regarding Hiccup changed over the years, including pre-, during- and post- the franchise. (HTTYD + Hiccstrid obviously)
The Reddie reunion smut I promised when I posted one of the parts of my social media AU. Again, kind of self explanatory; AU where Reddie are married and Richie comes home after filming for his new tv show, much boning occurs.
The Alien/Alien: Covenant dæmon AU where everyone has a dæmon (except the androids of course) (Walter/Daniels, but mostly focusing on Covenant crew members with their dæmons)
If anyone has any requests or whatever, my inbox is open, and if anyone wants to donate to my Ko-Fi to move their request up the list - or because they can spare the change and can help me afford my rent/medication - then that’s here.
