#I think I remember reading that the writers would do winter episodes when they were mad at the actors #because having to bundle up in parkas and blankets in southern california was unpleasant #but I may be making that up?
Hahaha okay this would paint such a bizarre picture of this show's production that I've been captivated trying to figure out how this could happen. I mean sure maybe this is possible, but what would have to be the case for this to be true:
A truly deranged writing schedule* where there is so little time between when episodes are being written and when they're being filmed, that it would be possible for the actors to so irritate the writers in one episode that they could entirely break and complete an And They Were All So Cold script by, in Season 4 for instance, the fourth episode shot. Update I have just discovered Wikipedia's List of M*A*S*H episodes has production order: the second episode shot.
Perhaps a production schedule that genuinely sleepless and maddening could explain how the writers could even be SO irritated with the actors that they would take it upon themselves to retaliate against them. Like, what did the cast do to you?? En masse? What is the situation where you're mad at them and not their directors? Not the PRODUCERS?? Know that I'm asking all these questions while laughing in 'I used to write on Chopped'. Me never: this is all Ted Allen's fault. Me every day: HOW can I TRICK the Food Network..
What would it mean then that the first instance of them all being so cold was not only written by actor Alan Alda, but the very first thing he wrote when given the chance, and then would keep doing this. A glutton for punishment? I guess he does write other characters yelling at him a lot... Again, I am laughing.
Now---does it seem credible that a show with as many episodes oriented around hi-jinks and practical jokes as this one, might have had a production atmosphere where a writer may pitch a cold episode for at some point in this upcoming season in a hohoho teasing way? Well that vibe I could sure believe.
*As Robert Hewitt Wolfe clarifies, this 8-week timeline would be for network dramas not network sitcoms, but still a good starting point for thinking about TV writing schedules

On Doc watching DS9
Hello! @pouncequick has selected this show, or rather, this specific episode, for me to watch. I am not 100% sure how I'm going to go about this, and actually have a couple thoughtsa on possible ways, but since I didn't get my shit together and ask I guess I'll do it the old fashioned way.
ANYWAY, I've seen like the first three seasons of this show, i think, but it was a few years ago now and so I may be a little lost or incorrect about things but THAT IS OKAY. I think pounce is going more for larger themes of the episode rather than encyclopedic knowledge of what happened on Globuar 8 in season 4. I get the very basic setup (I have thought about trying this show again, as I didn't not like it. It's the only Star Trek that wasn't TNG I've taken to, and I was a child watching TNG so it's 90% nostalgia and doesn't count)

I like how within the central friend group of Stranger Things you have people whose “how we became best friends” stories range from “I was alone on the first day of kindergarten and so was he so I asked him to be friends and he said yes” and “she asked me for advice about boy problems and we went shopping” through to “the juvenile demon dog I was raising in a terrarium broke out and ate my cat and he was the only person I could find who wouldn’t need extensive briefing to be able to help me.”

I can’t remember if I’ve said this before but I think that if you make a Batman 1920s AU then you have to take into account that Bertie Wooster often spent time living in New York and Gotham City is just New York Noir and Bruce Wayne would probably cultivate the acquaintance of Bertie Wooster because Bertie is exactly the sort of person Bruce wants people to think he is, so it’s both birds of a feather camouflage and because he wants to observe Bertie for behavioural ideas.
Bertie, ray of sunshine that he is, thinks Bruce is jolly good fun and really quite barmy, but he already has a friend called Barmy and he can’t manage two Barmies so he affectionately dubs him Batty.
Consequently Bruce exists in a state of nagging uncertainty as to whether Bertie is the golden-hearted silly ass he so transparently appears to be, or is in fact one of his villains, knowing who he is and taunting him.

I really like how Meilin in Turning Red realises she has a crush on a boy called Devon, or rather develops a crush on him, through the medium of drawing pictures of him. It's such a good reflection of how much a crush at that age is almost entirely the product of the crusher's imagination and a way of practising feelings that will fully develop later on.

I just wanted to tell you I am spending the day reading and annotating security documents and grants. It is boring, tedious, dry, dreary work. I got 2/3 of the way through the last grant, and I saw your essay was up. And I told myself that if I could just finish up that grant--the last few pages were just going to be citations anyway--I could read that post. And it got me through it and was a beautiful reward.
This made me smile SO HARD. Thank you for that.
