1. Iroh and Zuko were two characters who were examples of people who went against their government as the series progressed, a monarchy that spread propaganda and deceived their citizens constantly to mislead them about the true nature of the ongoing war. Zuko spends the majority of his journey struggling to do the right thing and ultimately defies the influence of his father, who is a massive DICK by the way, and aids the opposition to help set things right.

2. Jet and Hama were two people who had zero issue with harming any person regardless of whether or not they were a part of the Fire Nation. Jet was willing to destroy an entire village, soldiers and civilians alike, while Hama actively tortured people she kidnapped.

3. No matter how much he may deserve it, the killer of Katara's mom should not have been killed. Katara's anger about it had been slowly leading her down a path similar to what Hama had gone through (threatening Zuko, lashing out at Sokka when he and Aang tried to talk some sense into her, bloodbending during that attack in the raiders ship) and when we do see the bastard he's already leading a miserable life. As Harley Quinn told Huntress "vengeance rarely brings us the catharsis we hope to achieve." If anything, he should be locked up for his war crimes. Killing him would be an act of mercy. He does not even deserve that.
