BSD reaper au

So, in this au grim reapers are created when someone dies in a terrible manner and having committed a sin. (Ex. Killing people) Being a reaper is kind of like serving a prison sentence, where after a set amount of years you can go to the afterlife and rest. (Sentances vary based on severity of sin)

Reapers do remember how they died and what they did that made them a reaper.

I'm centering this au around Yosano and Ranpo mostly and it's platonic (with side ranpoe maybe)

Yosano is a reaper and she does not remember how she became one. Her sentance is 300 years. She died when she was about 11 years old but has continued to age for some reason. She does not know what her actual age is but estimates it to be about 24-28 years old.

One day, while Yosano is out reaping souls and comforting the souls of the dead she runs into a mysterious kid named Ranpo who can, for some reason, see her.

Yosano and Ranpo team up together in order to solve the mystery of Yosano's death

Ranpo's got limited time. He's got some sort of medical condition that's been slowly eating away at him. In this au he's about 26 and has somehow managed to beat the odds against what doctors predicted. He seems to be getting weaker in recent years though.

Extra characters:

Dazai: He's also a reaper and has been serving his sentence for an undetermined amount of time. Cause of death was suicide, his sin is unknown but seems to have something to do with his death. Him and Yosano are work besties. Although he seems to know something about her death.

Akutagawa: A reaper, he's been serving since before Yosano became a reaper. His sentence is almost over. He does not know anything about what happened to Yosano but he is willing to help. For a price.

Kyouka: A young girl who recently became a reaper. Yosano actually found Kyouka after she died and when Kyouka became a reaper, Yosano became her mentor.

Mori: Lead grim reaper if you will. He's in charge of everything and decides who becomes a reaper. Very mysterious, seems to know more than he let's on.

Fukuzawa: Ranpo's adoptive father after his parents died in an accident when he was young. Fukuzawa is doing everything he can for Ranpo right now and fears that Ranpo might die soon which is why he's surprisingly lax with Ranpo and his shenanigans.

Poe: Ranpo's best friend and rival. Poe has, in fact, been in love with Ranpo for years and is willing to do anything for him. Poe quickly gets dragged into Ranpo and Yosano's investigation. Poe is also very rich and helps fund most of the investigation.

MORE Chuuya and Poe friendship headcanons because now they live rent free in my head. they do not pay rent. please help

One time for Chuuya's birthday Poe sent him a happy birthday with a picture of Karl wearing a party hat. Chuuya was in a good mood for the rest of the day

In return for the Karl with a party hat picture, Chuuya got Poe a fancy hat on his birthday. Probably a hat that had a feather on it. Poe occasionally wears it

During a movie night they found a really good movie, and Poe started making a mystery inspired off of some of the aspects of it. Chuuya helped out with it and Poe ended up giving it to Ranpo to solve a few weeks later

They styled each other's hair once and kept it like that for a day, confusing many people by the sudden hair change. Then they had their hair back to normal the next day. They still sometimes do it just to throw everyone off again

Poe got worried when Chuuya didn't come over for their usual weekend movie night, and started watching the movie on his own when Chuuya randomly kicked down the door. Turns out he was out on a mission and was late. As an apology he brought along a totally-not-stolen bowtie for Karl

After the first sweater Chuuya made for Karl, he made more in his free time, causing Karl to slowly get a whole wardrobe of differently colored sweaters with also different designs. Poe also has a dedicated wardrobe for Karl, obviously

Chuuya got called short by Dazai during a mission, so he then decided it'd be a great idea that the next time he'd have to work with Dazai he brought Poe with him. Cue the next mission Dazai was then met with Poe carrying Chuuya on his back (and Poe ended up sticking with them for the rest of the mission)

During ANOTHER time the two got drunk, they continued their Q is a lovechild between Fukuzawa and Mori conspiracy theory. Ranpo also supports this theory because he was also there and totally did not plant one of the papers with evidence in Fukuzawa's office for him to find later

Karl has his own little blanket during movie nights, he usually ends up in a blanket burrito by the end of it. The blanket was made one night while Poe and Chuuya were watching a movie and the two felt bad for Karl not also having a blanket. But still sometimes Karl sneaks into one of their blankets to cuddle them

For Halloween Poe totally dressed Karl up as Chuuya one time. Chuuya proceeded to protect Karl with his life that halloween

Rarely but still sometimes Chuuya and Poe have sleepovers. They did end up attempting to summon a demon during one of said sleepovers, they were sadly not successful.

wait okay. instead of going to sleep like a normal person. here's how I'd change the ages in bsd (for those that have a canon age), bc no one looks their age/it makes the timeline feel weird, i wanna let at least some major past events breathe a little between one another. possibly controversial takes ahead:

atsushi: i like that he's 18 actually. he looks and feels 16 but no yeah 18 works better. I'd say 20-21 would be nice but that'd reallyyyy throw his backstory's timing off unfortunately

dazai: 25

kunikida: around 27-28

ranpo: 28 also, maybe even 29 (his whole thing is that he looks young for his age anyway)

yosano: 28 as well

tanizaki: like. he does look 18. but also 16 and 21 at the same time. i like him as a bit older than atsushi so let's say 19-20, and naomi as well while we're at it

kenji: why is he 14. it's not that he doesn't look 14 it's that i simply did not expect a child to be the muscle in a detective agency. so please make him like at least 16 which is only just slightly better tbh

kyouka: yeah 14 is chill in her case imo. makes her more tragic 👍

katai: 27-29ish as well

fukuzawa: at least in his 50s. maybe 55ish, or even more. he def looks like it and it fits more with having a son in his 20s

akutagawa: i do want him to be older. but making his age gap with atsushi bigger is weird. so keeping him as a 20 y/o it is, maybe 21 at most

chuuya: 25

kouyou: 30s. early 40s even. she is already so milf coded. finding out she's 26 in canon was straight up offensive i swear. come on.

higuchi: 21

tachihara: 22 or 23 maybe? (the hunting dogs don't have canon ages but i like jouno and tecchou as 26ish so that way he's still like the baby of the group)

hirotsu: how is that man 50. make him 65 at least. jfc. the whole point is he's been with the mafia a long time. ik they keep recruiting teenagers for some reason but give me a break. my dad is pushing 70 and looks younger than him

q: actually my issue with them isn't that they don't look their age (tho they do look a bit younger ig) but that timeline wise?? they're so weird?? why did the mafia have a 6 y/o on deck that's just inconvenient for all parties involved. like i can excuse kyouka at 11ish but come ON. at least make them 10 in fifteen. or just bring them in later bc i just realized the timeline doesn't line up with the dazai and chuuya changes otherwise. man idk

odasaku: girl that man was NOT 23 when he died he should've been like at least 27 then

mori: late 40s or early 50s. keep the few years gap from fukuzawa maybe but he should still be older

ango: 29ish in the current timeline. or even 32. idk why but that number feels right.

francis: 45 at least. how is a 32 y/o man supposed to have a daughter old enough to study abroad...

poe: 29

melville: actually he is the only one aged correctly in this entire manga. bestie 🔥🔥🔥🔥

steinbeck: 24. maybe even older

lucy: 20-21ish. same issue as akutagawa really

louisa: 25 at least please 🙏

nathaniel: 34 maybe.

margaret: also early 30s. how the fuck is she 20. like kouyou this is straight up insulting 😭

mark: ageless for he is the spirit of youth and joy (yeah 22 is chill for him actually. he's like the taylor swift song. he'd love that)

mushitaro: tbh I'd make him more around 29 or even older than 30. like he would be a believable 35 y/o to me if needed.

nikolai: actually him being 26 is chill too. tho i wouldn't mind making him around 28-29ish too since i already aged up most 26 y/os so may as well go all the way.

shibusawa: yeah he can stay 29 too idm. i actually didn't know he had a canon age until now. cool!

i think that's everyone who has a canon age (excluding lns bc i haven't gotten to them yet)? aside from sigma maybe but his age is more of a plot device than a fun fact. and fukuchi is implied to be the same age as fukuzawa so, yeah just make them the same in this case too.

i did mess up the timeline myself with this. so lemme clear it up:

The War and the whole thing with mori and yosano still happened when she was 11, so 17 years before canon. that means mori was still in his 20s back then, no big change

untold origins still happened when ranpo was in his teens, honestly we can keep it 14, so 14 years ago, meaning fukuzawa was in his late 30 or early 40s. again not too big of a change I'd say

fifteen happens when. well. dazai and chuuya are 15. ten years ago. i don't want q there get them out of my sight (for now) let them be a kid for a bit!!!!! but yeah like in canon that means the previous boss's murder was a year before, 11 years ago. also while we're at it, stormbringer is also the same aka a year after 15

now this is where we shake things up just a bit. rather than occuring when dazai is 18, i think we can push the dark era to when he's 20 and still maintain the whole childlike thing he has going on there, it's not that big of a difference imo.

that means, 5 years before canon instead of 4, making akutagawa 15 back then, and ango 27 like odasaku.

also yeah q comes in at some point in the middle between those^ I'd say close to dark era than fifteen.

originally i wanted to make skk 26 but this started stretching things even more. bc now we gotta figure out how long dazai spent in hiding. and ig we can keep it 2 years and just make it so his entrance exam was 3 years before canon. again imo not that big of a stretch 🤔

idk why i said this changes the timeline a lot i think this is p simple. also lets ppl stew in their situation for just a bit longer which i like more.

🔮 Tickle scenario

The Agency was completely quiet for once. Dazai and Kunikida were on a mission together, just like Kenji and Tanizaki, Naomi was out shopping with Kyouka, Yosano was buying more bandages and a new chainsaw, the President was having a negotiation with Mori, Atsushi was out "fighting" Akutagawa and Ranpo was on a crime scene.

Which means that when you arrived at this building, you found no one to welcome you. You sighed, although you didn't get mad, you knew that your friends were out doing their job... so you decided to use that time to explore around the building.

You went around and checked everyone's desks, making your heart skip a beat when you almost knocked over a pen holder on Kunikida's perfectly tidy and organized desk, and in the end you found it. The treasure. Your eyes literally lighted up at the sight: you had found Ranpo's stack of sweets.

You genuinely wondered how Ranpo was able to eat all that sugar without getting sick, but a rumble in your stomach made you snap back to reality. You were hungry, but you couldn't eat those sweets... you knew how jealous the detective was of his food, so you decided not to touch anything.

...

After an hour, the pile of candy was complete gone, and you gulped when you heard the door open and the sound of approaching steps. It wasn't your lucky day. Before you could even think about hiding the evidence of your hideous crimes, Ranpo appeared before you.

"AAAAAHH I'm so disappointed! The case was so easy that I spotted the culprit from afar! I didn't even get to use my ability! Seriously, isn't there an intelligence test to become a policeman?" The detective was clearly grumpy, so he did the thing that usually cheered him up, which was eating sweets to his heart's content.

However, his frown deepened when he found his stack completely gone and the wraps all scattered around the floor. "Rando..." The detective looked at you with a piercing gaze, even putting on his glasses, "do you know where my candy went? "I... you... no... I mean... I didn't... well... I WAS HUNGRY!!!" You couldn't lie at all, especially to the greatest detective of all times.

"Now I'm hungry! What am I supposed to eat, huh?" If you hadn't been so nervous, you would've probably noticed the playfully ominous glint in your best friend's eyes. "Erm... I... I think Kunikida left s-some raw veggies in the fridge..?"

"EEEEEEEHHH VEGGIES??? BLEH! HOW DARE YOU?! YOU'RE GONNA GET IT!!" The green-eyed guy jumped on you, but you managed to put your hands on his shoulders and push him off... Or so you thought.

When you raised your arms, two fingers immediately wormed under your arms, thoroughly digging in the very center of your underarms. "KYAAAHAHEHEHEHE RAHAHAHANPO WAIHIHIHIT NOOOO!!!" You were immediately reduced to a laughing mess, but Ranpo showed no mercy.

On the contrary, he moved his hands and made you think he had decided to spare you and let it slide for once, but right after you breathed a sigh of relief, twenty wiggling fingers descended on your poor tummy.

"WAAAAHHAHAHAHAHA NOHOHOHO RAHAHANPOHOHO NAHAHAT THIHIHIS!!!" You begged, wishing your thin cotton shirt could protect you better from the pokes, pinches, scribbles and spiders that were targeting your midriff.

"Yes, this! You deserve it for eating my secret stack of sweets! Hmph!!" He huffed while he started circling your belly button. "NONONOHOHOHOHO BROHOHO PLEAHAHASE LEHEHET'S TAHAHALK ABOHOHOUT THIHIHIS..!" As soon as you understood where his finger was going, you started pleading and squirming, making the tickly feeling even worse (or better).

"You should've thought about it before eating my snacks... now I'm gonna dig and get them back!" The brunette exclamation as his finger found your bellybutton and started wiggling extra quickly, as if it was digging in your poor belly.

"AAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAEHEHHEHE NAH- NAHAHAHAHAHAHA NOHOHOT THIHIHIS PLEHEHEAHASEEE" It surprised you how mean a cute guy like Ranpo could be, but there you were, squirming like a little worm, trying in vain to escape your tickly fate.

But alas, your yelling, squirming, pleading and begging fell on deaf ears. Only when your laughter went silent and you asked him to stop, Ranpo actually ceased his assault. "Are you okay?" The detective asked while handing you a glass of water "Sorry if I overdid it..."

"Don't worry, I'm fine, and well... it was deserved hehe" You gave him an embarrassed smile and scratched the back of your head, "Now... shall we go buy more candy and annoy Poe?"

"YAY! LET'S GOOO!!!"

oooooo see now this is an interesting question because i’m one of those people that go “hey what if these two were a bit silly” and then i fall in love with them for a bit and move on (rather than building a giant barrier around “my ship” and gatekeeping it from everyone 🥰🥰)

but some of them live in my head forever because they’ve got a really deep lore connection that i like, the pairing has awesome vibes, or they’re just simply very silly.

-siglai. probably my favorite bsd pairing atm, they’re just so indescribably silly i can’t. obviously when you look at the mental health side of things they would not last long but their dynamic in general is very silly indeed, so honestly they’re both besties and gays in my head

-pretty similar idea with fyolai, but with an added touch of they’re-literally-almost-canon-and-i-swear-the-next-time-they-interact-asagiri’s-gonna-make-them-kiss-and-we’re-all-gonna-be-like-i-fucking-told-you-so

-kunikidazai (or kunidazai or whateverty name they have idk) oh my Goodness the Sillies are So Silly with these two. i absolutely love pairings that just get each other, and because of this they can be really genuine and serious with each other as much as they can goof around and tear up every building they enter with their antics. and Unlike soukoku, these two would actually have a chance together in the long run, also not to mention dazai indirectly called kunikida mommy in dead apple
