That post I reblogged earlier reminds me that I had a little epiphany this weekend re: characters trying to escape their Protagonist Material backstories/character arcs to instead just become Normal Dudes: Apollo Justice may be the pinnacle of this phenomenon, but Son Gohan was shirking his Chosen One duties to hit the books before Apollo was even born.

Day 25: "Maybe I'm just hopeless" [Reader x Piccolo] {Dragon Ball Z/ Super}

Another pan hit the countertop, the contents were completely inedible and Piccolo couldn't be more upset. All the advice he had from Gohan, Chi-Chi, and Bulma was going to waste as the Namekian couldn't, for the life of himself, figure out how to cook or bake anything.

How was he supposed to impress his crush if he couldn't even cook?

Pacing around the small Capsule house, Piccolo pulled bandages tight around his fingers. Too many small, angry blisters had formed from his carelessness with the oven and stovetop. He was running out of time.

Sort of... he had already confessed, asked you to come over, and was delighted that you were going to come over. Though you did mention taking things slowly as you weren't entirely sure if you really felt the same way about Piccolo or not.

He was perfectly okay with finding out over the course of a courtship of sorts. A slow-burn relationship wasn't too bad a fate, and should either of you not like where this was going... it would be easier overall to break things off.

Though Piccolo really didn't want to think about that...

No, he needed a plan and fast. You would be here soon and Piccolo's attempts at cooking had all fallen flat. It was a miracle he didn't burn the house down at this rate.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Piccolo froze mid-step. Well, he clearly had less time than he thought. But he couldn't just not answer the door. Not when he was actually looking forward to someone's company for a change.

"[Name]." He stepped back, gesturing for you to enter, "I wasn't expecting you for a little while yet."

Humming as you slid your shoes off, "Yeah, I hope that's okay. I was a bit nervous for this."

"That... that makes two of us." Piccolo smiled weakly.

"Did... it smells like something burned."

"Ah, yeah." He turned back toward the kitchen, "I was trying to cook but... Maybe I'm just hopeless."

You snickered, causing the poor alien man to blush, "Nah, you just need a little practice. Though..."

Piccolo was trying to remain calm, his mind was racing from the fact that you were here... just a few feet away and no one else was around to ruin the moment.

"I didn't want to be too rude. So I ate before showing up, since Krillen mentioned you don't actually need to eat or anything." You shifted, only slightly nervous from admitting that out loud, "But if you're dead set on cooking... maybe we could try working together? I wouldn't mind teaching you."

"Yeah?" He felt like melting on the spot, "That... that would be nice."

For Piccolo Day, I had to draw something intense! Folks on Twitter mentioned that they wanted to see more solo Piccolo content so here we go! I remember seeing a ZBrush sculpt of an ogre wearing a dragon as a cowl. That image lived rent free in my mind until this day. LA PSA IN PROVINCIA DI PAVIA, FATTI E CONSIDERAZIONI - di Elisa Trogu, suiatra

Per approcciare correttamente il problema Peste Suina Africana (PSA), ritengo che in primis sia necessario chiarire un aspetto epidemiologico che sta venendo travisato anche sui media: la Peste Suina Africana NON è una patologia scatenata/causata/esacerbata dagli allevamenti intensivi. La PSA in Sardegna è presente dal 1978, e in Sardegna gli allevamenti intensivi sono pochissimi: nel contesto sardo la persistenza dell'infezione è stata mantenuta dai suini bradi illegali, animali quindi liberi e che vivono in un contesto di benessere assoluto. In Penisola Iberica, dove l'ingresso del virus si è avuto nel 1960, si è risolto definitivamente il problema depopolando gli allevamenti estensivi che utilizzavano una peculiare tipologia di strutture dove albergava un ben determinato tipo di zecca molle, Ornithodoros erraticus, che, come accade in Africa con Ornithodoros moubata, è serbatoio dell'infezione. Anche in questo caso, quindi, il problema NON erano affatto gli allevamenti intensivi. In molti paesi del Nord Europa oltre ai cinghiali il problema sono i piccoli allevamenti familiari, estensivi o semiestensivi, i cosidetti "backyard".

Veniamo a noi: la PSA in Italia sul Continente è arrivata tramite l'uomo, verosimilmente con qualche scarto alimentare. Nell'autunno 2021 ha iniziato ad infettare e uccidere i cinghiali in Piemonte/Liguria (focolaio scoperto nel gennaio 2022, quando ormai il virus era diffuso su un'area enorme), dopo la Pasqua 2022 la stessa problematica si è avuta a Roma (in un parco cittadino, probabilmente causata degli scarti di qualche grigliata), quindi in provincia di Salerno e poi Reggio Calabria. Queste sono tutte zone a bassissima, se non nulla, presenza di allevamenti intensivi. Interessante notare come in tutti i casi il numero di cinghiali morti sia enormemente superiore rispetto ai focolai negli allevamenti (unica eccezione Reggio Calabria, dove semplicemente con "allevamenti" si intendono piccolissime realtà familiari, anche di 1-2 capi per autoconsumo, e contestualmente la ricerca delle carcasse di cinghiale, in zone come l'Aspromonte e la Sila, non è affatto agevole): nella nostra realtà è proprio Sus scrofa ad essere il serbatoio dell'infezione e i numeri assolutamente folli delle popolazioni di questi animali, anche in contesti urbani, stanno rendendo difficilissima l'eradicazione della PSA.

Ma cos'è successo in provincia di Pavia?

Il giorno 18 agosto 2023 il Centro di Referenza Nazionale ha confermato la positività alla PSA di un piccolo allevamento (un agriturismo con 166 suini stabulati) a Montebello della Battaglia: dopo la morte di un paio di soggetti l'allevatore aveva contattato l'ASL, che in data 16 agosto ha effettuato un sopralluogo. In quel momento gli animali mostravano unicamente una lieve sintomatologia respiratoria. Il 19 agosto erano rimasti in vita 39 animali che sono stati abbattuti.

Chiariamo anche questa cosa: la PSA non uccide gli animali in maniera rapida e improvvisa: è lenta a diffondersi, strisciante, ma il genotipo attualmente circolante (il 2) manifesta una mortalità prossima al 100%.

A Montebello viene completata d'indagine epidemiologica da parte dei Colleghi di ATS Pavia e da essa si evince che il focolaio è stato causato da falle nella biosicurezza: l'allevatore infatti possiede e lavora molti terreni, i suoi mezzi agricoli entrano ed escono dall'allevamento e in zona sono stati ritrovati cinghiali positivi (il virus della PSA è estremamente resistente e può essere veicolato anche con le ruote dei mezzi, oltre che con le calzature). L'unico allevamento intensivo in zona di protezione (che seguo io) è negativo, e a fronte della presenza delle adeguate misure di biosicurezza rafforzata i maiali non vengono abbattuti.

lo e tutto il resto dei suiatri del Nord Italia ci illudiamo, per un istante, che il disastro sia evitato. II 24 agosto scoppia il bubbone: una collega di ATS Pavia si reca per un controllo di routine (fissato giorni prima proprio a seguito del primo focolaio) presso un allevamento di Zinasco. Al suo arrivo si trova davanti un allevamento vuoto (la mattina stessa erano stati inviati gli ultimi tre camion di suini al macello, in fretta e furia) e una trentina di carcasse. Grazie alla sua competenza comprende immediatamente la situazione e riesce ad intercettare i camion prima che i suini vengano scaricati nei macelli, allerta l'ATS e la Regione. Quello che emerge è AGGHIACCIANTE: da tre settimane (le prime ricette alla farmacia erano arrivate ai primi di agosto), nell'allevamento in questione (circa 1000 capi), i suini stavano morendo. In tre settimane erano morti circa 400 maiali (il 40%), erano state fatte innumerevoli ricette e nessun campionamento. Né l'allevatore né il veterinario che segue i maiali avevano segnalato la mortalità abnorme, al contrario avevano scientemente omesso la cosa e venduto tutti gli animali, anzitempo, pur di nascondere la situazione. I maiali infetti erano stati inviati in 4 strutture del Nord Italia, ma fortunatamente il virus non si è diffuso, probabilmente anche grazie alla prontezza a alla competenza della collega, che ha evitato che gli ultimi suini venissero scaricati nei macelli di destinazione. Ad oggi tre persone, tra le quali il soccidario e il veterinario, sono indagate; è opinione diffusa che ci siano altri individui implicati, ma sarà la magistratura a fare luce sulla cosa. Personalmente spero tanto che le pene siano esemplari.

In seguito a questo focolaio l'ATS ha iniziato una serie di controlli: altri due allevamenti intensivi, nello stesso comune di Zinasco, sono risultati positivi (anche in questo caso, considerato che il virus stava iniziando a circolare in quel momento, la mortalità era lievissima o assente). Tutti i maiali vengono chiaramente abbattuti, come stabilito dalla normativa.

Il 31 agosto risulta positivo un piccolo allevamento familiare (5 capi), dove era morto 1 suino. I restanti vengono soppressi.

II 4 settembre, viene ufficializzata la positività del "santuario" Cuori liberi. I responsabili avevano segnalato la morte di 2 soggetti su 40 e le analisi confermeranno che i maiali erano morti per la PSA. Da qui parte la follia. Mentre i focolai fortunatamente si fermano (si avranno ancora un caso a Dorno sempre il 4 settembre e un ultimo caso l'8 settembre a Sommo, sempre in zona di protezione), l'ATS inizia a scontrarsi con i tenutari del "santuario". Invito tutti a guardare la loro pagina: è allucinante. Non vi era nessuna minima misura di bio sicurezza: una foto del 28 giugno ritrae tre persone, con normalissime scarpe, senza calzari, che sono all'interno di un box con i suini. Il 16 aprile invece si trova l'immagine di visitatori esterni, anche questi privi di calzari e camici usa e getta, che accarezzano un minipig.

Vediamo di chiarirla questa cosa: la PSA se la sono tirata in casa loro. Loro non hanno tutelato minimamente i suini che avevano in stalla. Vi ricordo che la provincia di Pavia, per la vicinanza con quella di Alessandria dove i casi di cinghiali positivi sono numerosissimi e in espansione geografica, è sempre stata considerata ad alto rischio! Questa situazione di allerta era nota a chiunque si occupi di maiali, dai veterinari agli allevatori. I suini di "Cuori liberi" sono stati contagiati a causa delle persone che entravano senza nessuna attenzione dentro la struttura (vi ripeto che l'ATS è stata chiamata proprio perché due maiali erano morti) e stavano morendo per la PSA già ai primi di settembre.

II 4 settembre vi erano 38 maiali vivi. Quando è stato attuato l'abbattimento degli ultimi maiali in data 20 settembre ne erano rimasti in vita 9.

Gli altri sono morti e no, non è una bella morte quella da PSA: nel caso migliore (raro) la forma più acuta causa una morte repentina; negli altri casi i soggetti sviluppano febbre, sindrome emorragica, vomito e diarrea con presenza di sangue. Questo è quello che è stato fatto sopportare a quelle povere bestie.

Intanto l'ATS si rende conto della delicatezza della situazione: viene contattata anche la facoltà di Medicina Veterinaria di Lodi e viene deciso un protocollo farmacologico per l'abbattimento. In data 14 settembre il Collega Chiari (regione Lombardia) chiarisce la cosa durante un aggiornamento via web con gli stakeholder. La stessa sera mi chiama un caro amico, suiatra, che mi racconta di essere stato contattato da qualcuno del santuario che gli ha chiesto se può occuparsi della soppressione farmacologica dei suini rimasti. Lui, chiaramente, dice di no. Perché? Perché nessun veterinario suiatra vuole avere a che fare con quelle persone. Su alcune pagine vengono pubblicati video girati con i droni durante gli abbattimenti programmati (che tra l'altro interesseranno anche alcuni allevamenti negativi, ma correlati epidemiologicamente con altri infetti o comunque in zona di protezione) oltre che messaggi dai toni in alcuni casi quasi deliranti. Si inizia a leggere la parola "assassini" collegata a chi sta semplicemente eseguendo quanto imposto dalla legge. La violenza di queste persone è evidente e in aumento, giorno dopo giorno.

Intanto dal "santuario" continuano i messaggi strappalacrime, con richieste di soldi e di presenziare ai blocchi. Decine di persone si accalcano DENTRO e FUORI l'area, creando un pericolo enorme: molti di questi soggetti infatti hanno a che fare con altri suini in altri santuari. Di conseguenza in data 19/09 Regione Lombardia emette una circolare con oggetto "Sorveglianza santuari correlati con focolaio PSA 190PVO44" nella quale, al termine di una serie di misure di biosicurezza, viene riportata la frase "In caso di necessità la vigilanza di cui al punto precedente può essere effettuata anche con il supporto delle forze dell'ordine". Siamo arrivati al punto di dover esplicitare un'evenienza simile, manco stessimo parlando degli ippopotami di Escobar

La mattina del 20 settembre, a fronte di una situazione di stallo da una parte e di elevatissimo pericolo epidemiologico dall'altra, i pochi suini rimasti in vita sono stati abbattuti. Si poteva fare altro? No.

La PSA è catalogata nel Regolamento di esecuzione (UE) 2018/1882, che è uno degli atti derivanti dalla Animal Health Law (Regolamento UE 2016/429, in categoria A + D + E:

«malattia di categoria A»: malattia elencata che non si manifesta normalmente nell'Unione e che, non appena individuata, richiede l'adozione immediata di misure di eradicazione (articolo 9, paragrafo 1, lettera a), del regolamento (UE) 2016/429);

«malattia di categoria D»: malattia elencata per la quale sono necessarie misure per evitarne la diffusione a causa del suo ingresso nell'Unione o dei movimenti tra Stati membri, di cui all'articolo 9, paragrafo 1, lettera d), del regolamento (UE) 2016/429);

«malattia di categoria E»: malattia elencata per la quale vi è la necessità di sorveglianza all'interno dell'Unione (articolo 9, paragrafo 1, lettera e), del regolamento (UE) 2016/429).

Da settimane i suini del santuario stavano morendo. La PSA è stata introdotta dalla totale mancanza di attenzione dei tenutari. Alcuni scrivono che il loro veterinario avrebbe potuto occuparsi dell'eutanasia dei maiali: chi è il collega? Perché non l'ha fatto visto che sono stati contattati Veterinari esterni? Ma soprattutto: questo collega perché non ha tutelato i suini a fronte della situazione epidemiologica del Nord Italia? Vi ricordo che il 18 agosto vi era stato il caso di Montebello, ad una manciata di chilometri: perché nessuno ha fatto nulla per evitare il contagio? Incompetenza? Menefreghismo?

Vi è poi un altro aspetto che vorrei chiarire: i suini non amano affatto essere toccati da persone che non conoscono e il contenimento per questi animali è fonte sempre di grandissimo stress (considerate che già entro due minuti dall'inizio del contenimento si hanno alterazioni del leucogramma). Per i suini quindi le manipolazioni necessarie per la soppressione farmacologica comportano senza dubbio una sofferenza maggiore rispetto, ad esempio, a un improvviso e rapidissimo colpo alla testa.

Comunque, l'ATS aveva concesso ai tenutari del santuario di utilizzare il metodo farmacologico, proprio per cercare di risolvere la situazione. Inoltre, nei maiali lo "scodinzolare" non è sovrapponibile a quello dei cani, bensi in moltissimi casi è indice di un atteggiamento aggressivo e di difesa: basta con la storiella dei maialini che correvano felici incontro ai loro carnefici. Pensiamo invece come per due lire c'è chi li tratta come i cetacei dei delfinari, obbligandoli a contatti con umani che non conoscono ma che sono disposti a versare un obolo per la foto da postare sui social.

Ricordatevi poi che a, fronte di una situazione epidemiologica tanto grave, i Colleghi delle ATS devono giustamente sottostare a quanto riportato dalla Normativa (e dal Regolamento di Polizia Veterinaria del 1954 all'Animal Health Law (Regolamento (UE) 2016/429) molte cose sono cambiate, ma certi capisaldi permangono), oltre che ad eventuali Decisioni della Commissione: i Colleghi che una massa di violenti esaltati sta minacciando di morte hanno semplicemente eseguito quanto prescritto da norme che sono il frutto di studi, conoscenze decennali, oltre che di competenze acquisite tramite il lavoro di migliaia di persone ed anche, perché negarlo, la morte di milioni di animali. Che si abbia la decenza di tacere almeno di fronte a questo.

Inoltre vorrei riportarvi due articoli del nostro Codice Penale:

Articolo 500: Diffusione di una malattia delle piante o degli animali Chiunque cagiona la diffusione di una malattia alle piante o agli animali, pericolosa all'economia rurale o forestale, ovvero al patrimonio zootecnico della nazione, è punito con la reclusione da uno a cinque anni. Se la diffusione avviene per colpa, la pena è della multa da euro 103 a euro 2.065.

Articolo 416: Associazione per delinquere

Quando tre o più persone si associano allo scopo di commettere più delitti, coloro che promuovono o costituiscono od organizzano l'associazione sono puniti, per ciò solo, con la reclusione da tre a sette anni.

Per il solo fatto di partecipare all'associazione, la pena è della reclusione da uno a cinque anni.

I capi soggiacciono alla stessa pena stabilita per i promotori.

Infine, una semplice domanda: cosa rende diversi i suini dei "santuari", o comunque "non DPA", rispetto ai suini di un allevamento intensivo? Perché un esemplare di Sus scrofa domesticus di tot anni, stabulato in un contesto assolutamente inadatto (come ad esempio un appartamento), obbligato a defecare ed orinare su di una traversina, con calori mensili a vuoto, obeso, impossibilitato a grufolare, privo di interazioni con i conspecifici, MALATO, dovrebbe essere più tutelato di un maiale di tot mesi SANO che, sebbene destinato al macello, sta in quel momento vivendo la sua vita tranquillamente, senza alcuna sofferenza?

Voi che vi stracciate le vesti, che urlate, minacciate, postate frasi allucinanti di una violenza assoluta, me la spiegate la differenza? Perché io, che da più di un mese non riesco a dormire una notte intera, che passo i fine settimana a studiare, correggere piani di Biosicurezza, che passo ore al telefono con i Colleghi per cercare un confronto, o anche solo conforto, che da anni combatto davvero affinché i suini degli allevamenti soffrano il meno possibile, io, che i suini se serve li uccido con le mie mani, per evitare sofferenze inutili, io, questa differenza, non riesco proprio a vederla.

Perché leggere Vannacci se Camon lo ha detto prima e lo ha detto meglio? Forse perché il piccolo libro che ho in mano, “Son tornate le volpi. Come muore la nostra civiltà”, non è stato per nulla pubblicizzato. O forse perché è un libro di poesie ma sono poesie brevi e supercomprensibili, non dev’essere questo il problema. E’ pubblicato da Apogeo Editore di Adria e qualcuno si domanderà: come mai uno scrittore come Ferdinando Camon che ha vinto lo Strega e il Campiello, che è tradotto in tutto il mondo, anche in turco e in persiano, che in Francia pubblica con Gallimard, in Italia affida i propri testi a, con tutto il rispetto, Apogeo Editore di Adria? Una risposta è a pagina 40 e si intitola “Città multietnica”: “Di giorno la città è italiana, operai, impiegati, studenti, donne. Di sera diventa nigeriana, presidiata dai racket della prostituzione. A mezzanotte si fa marocchina, grosse auto sostano in fila, chi allunga qualche mila riceve una bustina. Verso le 3 diventa albanese, le raffiche scuotono la periferia e i banditi scappano dai negozi prima che arrivi la polizia”. Una risposta ancora migliore è a pagina 36 ma stavolta niente virgolettato perché poi denunciano me e denunciano Camon.

Dragon Ball Super Manga Ch.100

Yes, Cheelai, we have finally reached the end of the 2023 Dragon Ball Apocrypha Liveblog, but in particular, we've also finally reached the end of the seemingly endless manga adaptation of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie.

And yeah, this seems like an anticlimactic place to close out the year, but that's kind of how this entire liveblog has been, when you get down to it. I've had fun going through all this stuff, but there's a reason I'm referring to it all as "apocryphal". The Tournament of Power is a lot of fun, and the two DBS feature films are instant classics, but none of it really feels essential to Dragon Ball. From the OAVs to GT to Super, the main theme here is "Hey, remember Dragon Ball? Let's make more of that!" Everything ends up being a sequel or a callback or an easter-eggy kind of deal. And that's not the worst thing that can happen to a franchise, but it's probably fitting that we're closing out on the final chapter of a comic book adaptation of a movie that serves as a sequel to the Android arc that was a continuation of the Red Ribbon Army arc.

Chapter 100 just retells the last several minutes of the Super Hero movie, and I already went over the film, so let's just concentrate on how the manga depicts it differently. We'll start with Gohan's right arm, which got some heat a few days ago when the previews came out.

I refuse to dogpile on Toyotaro, since he's a far better artist than I'll ever be, and I've genuinely enjoyed his art through this entire read-through, even when the writing has been bad. That said... yeah, Gohan's arm looks kind of weird. Maybe while Gohan was teaching himself the Special Beam Cannon, he learned how to do Piccolo's stretchy arm thing too.

I do think it's pretty dumb how chuds on Twitter will nitpick Toyotaro's art as though the original Dragon Ball manga was some kind of showcase of photorealistic anatomy. I've been a fan of this thing for a quarter-century now, and the key to loving Dragon Ball is to make peace with the fact that it's fundamentally goofy and stupid. Sometimes a guy's arm gets drawn longer than his other arm. Sometimes characters scream so loud that their jaws unhinge like when a snake swallows an egg whole. Bulma wasted a wish on the Dragon Balls to make her ass look hotter, because if she didn't, then Frieza would come back and use the wish to make himself taller. Goku grew his tail back by having a guy tug on his ass with a pair of pliers. This show was always a hot mess, so don't blame Toyotaro. It was like this when he got here.

Anyway, Cell Max tries to block the Special Beam Cannon like he did in the movie, but Gohan has a harder time punching through, so in this version Goten and Trunks jump in to distract Cell and give Gohan a boost. In the movie, they were still Gotenks until after the fight ended, but in this version the battle must have taken a little longer, since they de-fused a little earlier.

Of course, this is just a way for Toyotaro to show off the Great Saiyaman X-1 and X-2 costumes one more time. It's kind of pointless, because all of the added Goten and Trunks scenes in this arc have been pointless. Also, Trunks' pose looks really awkward here. He looks like he got sawed in half, and both halves are still kind of flying forward in the same direction, but he's no longer connected.

I will say that I'm grateful for this final appearance of X-1 and X-2, because it gives me a chance to critique their outfits one last time. I hate the superhero undies they wear over their tights. They look baggy and puffy for some reason, which make it look like Goten and Trunks are wearing diapers. I'm pretty sure that's the exact opposite of what the boys were going for.

I mean, the outfits aren't that bad, but what irritates me is how Toyotaro keeps showing them off like this is the coolest thing going on in this story. The designs are presented like they somehow connect all these different things. Goten and Trunks were inspired by Cleangod, and they named their personas after Great Siayaman, and then Dr. Hedo saw them and supposedly based the Gammas' costumes off their look. Except X-1 and X-2 don't actually look anything like Great Saiyaman, or Cleangod, or the Gammas. It's just frustrating.

Anyway, we get the same bit about cosmetic skin alteration from the movie, except Gotenks has already separated in this version, so Bulma can address Goten and Trunks separately.

I also like this part after Pan shows off her flying ability. This segued into the credits of the movie, but here we see Gohan calling out for her to stay closer to the ground. It's pretty cute, since it kind of calls back to when Gohan was a timid child way back in the early days of DBZ. Now he's older and braver, but I bet when he sees Pan up so high in the air he thinks about how scared he was whenever he was up really high.

Meanwhile, some Red Ribbon goons have survived the battle and appear to be slowly getting away. This is nice because I noticed these guys escorting Carmine to safety in one of the previous chapters, and I've always wondered if any of the Red Ribbon guys made it out of the base alive. Pan knocked Carmine out, so it seemed reasonable to assume that he was vaporized during the Cell Max battle. Actually, in the movie, it looked like the entire crater was flattened, but here it looks like the destruction stayed confined to that area.

Anyway, the implication is that Carmine will return to Red Pharmaceutical and try to figure out his next move, but it seems unlikely that he could be much of a threat. Magenta's dead, the base is destroyed, and a bunch of their soldiers either died or deserted in this battle. Remember, even with the base and all those soldiers, Magenta still wasn't ready to make a big move. Dr. Hedo's androids were supposed to be his game-changing weapon, and now Hedo's turned against the Red Ribbon, so what can Carmine possibly do from here?

We get some additional material of the Goku/Vegeta fight in the movie. In the post-credits scene, they were practically moving in slow-motion and we only got to see the final blow. Here, we see Goku and Vegeta each land one last punch before the one that ends it all. These boys look all rowdy and badass and it's great.

When Whis finally responds to Bulma's messages, we get this cute shot of everyone sleeping in the back of her aircraft. Gohan talks about taking her to the amusement park, which seems kind of random, but it occurred to me that this might be setting up some filler story for Chapter 101. Like Gohan and Pan go to the amusement park for the day, and Carmine tries to kill them or something to avenge the Red Ribbon Army. That probably wouldn't be a bad idea, although I really don't want that to happen, because it sounds similar to the "Hedo vs. Goten and Trunks" stuff we had in Chapters 88-90. Everyone thinks Toyotaro has been champing at the bit to get done with this arc so he can return to his Black Frieza business, but for all we know he's been enjoying this whole bit, and he'll blow the next six months on filler stories with Goten and Trunks goofing around with Sgt. Nutz.

Anyway, this is the last page and this was the last little bit of the movie too, so Toyotaro has definitely run out of movie to adapt. Also, Bulma looks really cute on this page, so I wanted to add that to the record.

So that pretty much wraps things up, except for one minor detail. Where's the big twist?

I ran across this last month when I was checking to see if Chapter 99 would wrap up the arc or not. CBR.com did an article entitled "Dragon Ball Super Chapter 100's 'Unbelievable' Twist to Lead to "'Crazy Developments'" The story stems from comments made by V-Jump editor Victory Uchida, who was hyping DBS chapters 99 and 100 while appearing in an unboxing video for some reason.

The video is in Japanese, so I can't just pull out direct quotes from the man, so maybe this was all some big misunderstanding. Maybe it was a mistranslation, maybe Uchida got confused and was referring to material that wouldn't see print until Chapter 101. Or maybe he was just doing a standard hype job for his publication without thinking about what was actually in the magazine. After all, how can Chapter 100 have an "unbelievable twist" when it's doing a shot-for-shot repeat of a year-old movie?

So I assumed this meant there would be some sort of epilogue scene in the final pages, designed to set up the next arc. Sort of like how the last chapter of the Tournament of Power arc had the scene where the Galactic Patrol kidnaps Majin Buu. But Chapter 100 had no such thing. No Black Frieza, no Cell Max suddenly turning the tables on Gohan to win the movie, no mysterious appearance from Purple Turles or Red Bojack. Not even a lousy cameo from Platinum Cooler.

Does this make Victory Uchida an unreliable source of information? Or has he simply been misunderstood? I feel like his ridiculous yellow wig/hat thing kind of holds the answer to that question.

Anyway, the ultimate fate of Dragon Ball Super lies in Chapter 101 and beyond, but those stories will be printed in 2024, which means they fall outside the scope of this liveblog. So unless Toei or Shueisha has a new movie or anime coming out in the next eleven days, I'm done. This has been the 2023 Dragon Ball Apocrypha Liveblog. Good night, everybody!

Un anno fa, sempre in occasione del Transgender Day of Remembrance, dedicavo nel mio piccolo un pensiero alle vittime di transfobia del 2022. Alle ferite di questa comunità se ne sono aggiunte purtroppo, seppur in modo tristemente prevedibile, tante altre anche quest’anno.

Eppure, a tormentarmi dall’anno scorso, c’è una vicenda in particolare, perché dolorosamente emblematica della situazione di un paese come il nostro dove il marciume nasce e si propaga dalle sue più profonde radici: le istituzioni.

Questa qui è rimasta chiusa nel cassetto finora da quel maledetto giugno 2022. Ma oggi è tempo di ricordare, meditare, mandare a memoria.

Day 15: Babysitting together [Reader x Piccolo] {Dragon Ball Z/ Super}

Normally, Piccolo would be asking why you were insisting on hanging around. His newly found crush was preventing him from saying much at all though. He didn't even realize what was going on before it was far too late...

Babysitting Pan together was not helping matters in the slightest.

You were oblivious to the obvious and ignoring how awkward Piccolo was acting around you. For all you knew he was just like that...

It wasn't until Pan was down for her afternoon nap that Piccolo even said anything to you.

"Uh, [Name]..." He didn't want to sound rude, but he also didn't want to say what he was really thinking at the moment, "Since Pan is napping, maybe you could uh..."

"Watch her while you run errands?" You offered.

Piccolo sputtered a little, "N-no! I was thinking I could stay here while you left... I don't really have anything planned for the day and Gohan and Videl keep the house pretty clean so there isn't much to do here. And well, uh... not that I'm trying to assume it's just-!"

"I don't have anything I need to do either." You chuckled, "Though I would rather hang around until Videl gets back. There was something the two of us were going to do after she and Gohan finished... you know."

Piccolo nodded, unable to look you in the eye. Instead, he settled into a clearly visible corner of the room where you were sitting. The last thing he wanted to do was scare you in any capacity, even as he meditated.

But you were content just reading a book while waiting. Either Gohan and Videl would come back, or Pan would wake up. Until then you were house-sitting with an awkward, green man who seemed to get more awkward as time ticked by.
