Happy Valentine Day
Tumblr media

I've been holding on to a prompt because I thought it was a bit weird, but apparently we're shipping actual houses now, so here ya go:
Cujo/Wolf (Superboy's pet wolf, not Wulf)
I think it would be hilarious for Superboy to wake up one day and there's Wolf with a bunch of glowing puppies.
(As far as we know, both Cujo and Wolf are male dogs. But, one's a ghost and one was experimented on/is enhanced. The pups could also be adopted. I'm sure if there's one ghost dogs there are more out there somewhere.)
Of course, YJ is scrambling around trying to figure out what the puppies are and where they come from (without pissing off Wolf), when in pops Cujo.
At what point do they realize that Cujo isn't just another puppy and is in fact Wolf's (...let's go with) "mate"?
When Kid Flash makes one of the puppies start to cry and Cujo gets BIG.

Proper Introductions
Summary: Proper introductions to the group leads to Danny getting a new wardrobe and a sword.
Credit for the armor design goes to @nerdypear4!! Thank you so, so much for allowing me to use your design in the story!!
Word count: 3,258
“So what’s your name?” Wind asked. He and Wolfie walked on both sides of the new member. The early afternoon sun shone through the branches and made the stranger’s dark hair and Wolfie’s dark fur look a little funny when they passed under those spots. The stranger looked at him with eyes a shade of light blue that reminded Wind of ice. He couldn’t be much younger than some of the others, but he was definitely a little bit older than Wind.
The three heroes, four if you count Wolfie, were heading back towards the rest of the group with their newest temporary member in tow. The stranger seemed to snap out of some sort of trance and glanced at him.”My name’s Daniel, but pretty much everyone just calls me Danny. What about you?” He asked. His odd bag on his back made a slightly funny noise as he walked, probably just the contents inside, like that weird red bag from earlier. He’d tightened the straps earlier to prevent it from moving around, so it was practically hugging him. Wind had seen big bags before, but that one was odd.
Wind almost said “Link”, but managed to stop and correct himself.“Well, we all have the same name, so we go by nicknames based off our adventures. I’m Wind, and I have a lot of questions.” He said.
“Me too. You go first.” Danny said. For a split second, the corners of his mouth moved upwards in a smile.
“First, why are your ears round?” Wind asked. Up ahead, Sky and Hyrule both froze and were going to turn around to silently scold Wind. They didn’t know why, either, but for all they know, it could’ve been something he’s had since birth and didn’t like talking about. Yet Danny only looked surprised for a split second before answering.
“Uh, I think the only explanation I can give is the fact that I’m a human.” He replied. Human. The three of them remembered that word. Sky was constantly mistook for one on his adventure, and Twilight mentioned that he grew up in a village full of them. It was also him to explain that probably the only physical difference between them was the fact that humans had round ears while hylians had pointed ears. Not everyone paid attention to that detail, so it wasn’t a surprise that Sky was mistook for one.
The two older heroes continued ahead, with Sky leading them. Wind briefly eyed that part of Danny, not really paying attention to the path ahead.“So you’re not a hylian? Huh.” He said, taking on a more suspicious tone than he meant to. He fixed his expression and smiled.”Your turn.” He said, turning back to look ahead.
“Cool. Where are we?” Danny asked. They all took a step over a fallen log, and both Danny and Wind paused to make sure Wolfie hopped over okay.
“Faron Woods, my world.” Sky replied.
“Never heard of that place, but okay.” Danny said, turning to Wind.”What’s your next question?” He asked.
The young hero had lots of questions, and it was a little hard to pick the next one. He ultimately decided on one Hyrule would probably ask him soon as well.“You were stitching up your wound earlier. Are you a doctor?” He asked.
Danny shook his head.“No, I’m far from the real thing. It’s just that... It’s just something I picked up, I guess?” He said with a shrug.”One of my friends is a doctor, and I was curious about a few things, so I asked a couple questions. Next thing I know, he’s teaching me how to treat my own wounds incase he’s not around.” He explained.
“There you guys are!”
Wind and Danny looked up towards the front of the group. Legend was walking towards them looking a little relieved and annoyed at the same time. When he noticed Danny, however, his expression hardened into a glare.”Who is that?” He asked. Danny stopped mid-step for a second, but then continued as if he never stopped. It lasted barely long enough for Wind to notice. Danny opened his mouth to respond, but Sky spoke first.
“Let’s meet up with the rest of the group first. This is important.” He said. Legend gave Danny another glare, but didn’t argue and turned around to walk with them the rest of the way. After ending up in Sky’s world, but on the ground instead of the sky, he led them to some ruins that would provide some cover if they decided to camp there since some of them were nervous about making repeated journeys up and down.
After getting back to the rest of the group, Sky immediately went to explaining why the kid they brought back with them was now a member of the group. Danny glanced nervously between all of them and tensed up a little with the several pairs of eyes on him as Sky spoke.”The sword said that he’s from another world,” was how he started the conversation. No one even got a chance to ask who Danny was or what he was doing following them.
“What?” Time asked, taking on a more serious tone than normal. He glanced over at Danny, who briefly froze before shrugging his shoulders.
“I hardly know what happened myself. I was just walking through the woods and it opened up from underneath me! Then it just spat me back out somewhere over there.” He explained, pointing back the way they came with his thumb. Either he was acting less upset than he was or talking calmed him down somehow, because he grew less tense when he told his brief story. Wolfie stood next to him, occasionally glancing at his side. Probably eyeing the bandages underneath his shirt.
It was confusing how the boy had gotten comfortable with Wolfie so quickly seeing as he wasn’t freaking out over him being so close, but they weren’t going to ask that. Not yet, at least.
After a moment of silence and shared glances, Four approached him.”I’m Four. Do you remember anything besides the portal? A black lizalfos, maybe?” He asked.
“Danny, and no. I don’t even know what a lizalfos is, but I think I hit something on my way down, before I hit the ground in front of whatever that red, ugly thing was.” Danny said, briefly introducing himself before getting to the point. That response was... worrying.
The fact that he didn’t know what a lizalfos was, and apparently hadn’t seen a bokoblin before a few minutes ago, didn’t sound good if he was going to be traveling with them. Unless his world just didn’t have those, but still had monsters. That thought brought a bit of relief to the group. While it would be a neat thing to have a world with no monsters at all, as surprising as that sounds, that could mean that Danny had no experience fighting them. That would be pretty bad.
He didn’t appear to have any weapons or shields on him, unless they were in his backpack. He didn’t seem to have any armor on, either. Unless he knew a thing or two about using weapons, but just didn’t have them. Sky opened his mouth to speak his thoughts of lending him a sword and teach him if need be, but Danny interrupted.”Thanks again for the save, by the way.” He said, glancing at the group’s furry companion. Wolfie huffed and nodded, the corners of his mouth twitching upwards slightly.
“Wolfie helped you?” Four asked. Sky’s face fell a little. He would wait until Danny explained, but he hoped it’d be quick. Danny looked back up at Four.
“Yeah. Not gonna lie, I thought he was a husky because of his fur color.” He replied. Before anyone asked anything else, Sky took the chance to get their attention again and cleared his throat. Four and Danny both turned to him, along with everyone else.
“Sorry to interrupt, but I think we have a more important issue here. Daniel, have you ever faced a monster before?” Sky asked. Danny hesitated before answering, looking thoughtful before shaking his head.
“No, not really. I don’t think I’ve even seen one until now.” He said. The atmosphere changed drastically, and the silence that followed his answer was a little heavier with the realization that he was basically defenseless. No armor, no weapons, and no knowledge of monsters?! The decision seemed obvious, especially as they glanced between each other. Danny seemed to come to a similar realization as his expression shifted to worry.”How many are there?” He asked.
“A lot.” Legend said, reaching into his bag. He rummaged around before pulling out a tunic and undershirt. He walked over to Danny and handed them to him.”Here, these will give you better protection than that shirt and coat.“ He said. Danny seemed a little surprised and very quickly glanced up at his face, then back at the clothes, before reaching out and accepting the not-so-negotiable offer.”Do you have any knowledge or experience with bows, swords, or other weapons?” Legend asked.
“Thank you. And as much as I don’t want to admit this because of how you’ve all reacted so far, no. In fact, swords and bows are hardly used in my world. Not a lot of people to learn from.” Danny said. Everyone else pretty much guessed the first part would be the answer, but the bit about swords and bows not being used much in his world was a surprise. As much as it caught them off guard, the logic behind why he didn’t know how to use those weapons made sense.
“What about your bag?” Warriors asked.
“I don’t really recall packing a weapon, but I’ve forgotten when I have or haven’t packed something, so maybe I did.” Danny replied. He held the tunic and undershirt close to himself while he slid one of his arms out of the straps, then allowed it to slip down his other arm and caught it with his hand before it would fall off completely. Danny knelt down and placed the bag on the ground, supported by his leg.
He grabbed the dangling piece of metal and pulled it up the side, then over it. The bag opened up and he looked inside. After rummaging around, Danny looked at Warriors.”Yeah, no. I don’t have any weapons.” He said, closing his bag back up and standing up with one of his hand lifting it up by one of the straps.
Wild reached into his own bag and walked over to Danny as he searched the seemingly infinite space. He soon pulled out some chainmail and a piece of armor. He wordlessly placed it of top of the tunic and undershirt given to Danny by Legend.“Oh, thank you. Are you really sure this is necessary, though? Is it that bad that I shouldn’t walk around in my normal clothes?” Danny asked. Wild nodded and pulled out a sword from his bag. It was probably one of the swords he’s taken from dead monsters and gave to Four to fix up.
Danny was careful when he took the sword from his hand.“Okay. Again, thanks.” He said. He turned his head towards Time when he noticed him coming towards him.
“We’ll teach you how to use a sword. Here, these will give you better protection against rough terrain than those.” He said, handing him a pair of boots and pants he forgot to drop off at the ranch.
“Uh- Thanks. I appreciate it.“ Danny said.
If his world was really as harmless as it sounds, then he had done a fairly good job staying calm, but he was starting to freak out. Wolfie nudged his hand seeing his uneasiness starting to creep onto his face and Time backed away.
“Teaching you should be easy! There’s nine of us.” Wind said, hoping it would help. Danny opened his mouth, probably to thank them again, but then he paused with an odd look on his face.
“Wait...” Danny looked from one member to the other. Time realized Wind’s mistake as the human’s eyes finally fell on Wolfie. There were currently eight hylians, not nine. He was worried about Twilight’s secret being blown for a second.”A wolf using sword? I shouldn’t find that funny, but it kind of is.” Danny said. Some of the other members looked at Wolfie.
Sky was the one to change the subject again.”You can go into the ruins to change, but the rest of us should probably introduce ourselves first.” He said.
“Oh, right. I guess I’ll go first.” Legend said.
~~~~~(Small Time Skip + POV Switch)~~~~~
After everyone introduced themselves, Danny was brought into the ruins and left in a small room with no windows. After he had gotten changed, he folded his clothes and put them into his bag, then took a moment to just sit down and think for a moment. One minute, he’s walking through a forest hanging out with some Shades that approached him, the next, a dark portal with purple rims opened from underneath him and he fell through without enough time to react.
Then, he lands next to a weird red monster, gets cut by it, saved by a husky who’s apparently a wolf named Wolfie — and Danny himself isn’t good at naming, but seriously? Wolfie?? —, and now he’s apparently going with a group of people who have the same name so they use nicknames like Legend and Four because they’ve gone through a dark and purple portal before and they think they can get him home?
And they’re giving him armor and sword lessons?! It’s amazing how much can happen in just a few hours.
‘This is bad.’
Danny dug into his backpack for his phone. He had to contact someone back home quickly if he couldn’t get there himself. Who’s going to protect the town? What if his parents called the cops? What will he say when he returns? He went to his contact list and immediately tried calling both Tucker and Sam without thinking. It didn’t even ring. The young halfa noticed the service bars. They were gone. He internally scolded himself for not coming to that conclusion sooner. If he was in another world, he should’ve guessed that he wouldn’t be able to call anyone.
Danny took a deep breath and checked his text notifications. He hadn’t received any. Again, it was probably the clear lack of cellphone reception. He put it back into his backpack, but quickly pulled his hand out when he felt something cool and squishy brush up against his fingers. He grabbed onto both sides of his backpack and held them open so he could see inside.
Two black eyes blinked at him from their spot nestled between his notebooks and clothes. Danny’s eyes widened and he opened his mouth to say something, probably shout, but he was luckily cut off by a knock.
”Hey, are you okay in there? You’ve worn armor before, right?” Wind called out.
“Yeah, just a second!” Danny shouted back. He glanced between the door and the little shade in his backpack, then the door again.”No, I haven’t worn armor before!” He corrected himself. He looked down at the shade, who tilted half of its body in a way akin to a confused head tilt. Its core vibrated and sent a message to his own.
Confusion. Fear. “What’s happening?”
Danny wasn’t in ghost form, but he could still understand them. He lowered his voice to a whisper.“I’m still figuring it out. Look, you have to stay in here, okay? We don’t know if they like ghosts or not.” He said. The shade tilted back to its normal position and sent him another message.
Understanding. Worry. Patience. “Okay. I will wait.”
Danny smiled a little and zipped his backpack up with the shade inside. He went to put it on his back, but it felt a little funny with the armor on. The armor was a little snug and didn’t screw up with his binder, nor was it exactly itchy. It was breathable and surprisingly okay to move around in. It was new, but not bad. He picked up the sword Wild lent to him on his way out of the room and back to the main room of the ruins. Why they thought ruins were a good place to change, Danny will never really know. Sure, they provided walls, but still.
He immediately took notice of someone standing next to Time and Sky. Danny was pretty sure he wasn’t there before. He was probably the second or third tallest out of them and looked like he was wearing a dark pelt or something. Wind was right next to the door and raised a hand, which got the guy’s attention.”Twilight, come meet Danny.” He called. The one Danny hadn’t properly met glanced between Time and Sky before walking over to them. He seemed friendly, but appearances can be deceiving. That was a card Danny also had to play until he had a full grasp of the situation.
As he came closer, Danny took notice of something. Two somethings, actually. One of them was that the guy had the same marking on his forehead as the wolf, except in black instead of white. The second thing was that the pendant in his necklace looked almost the same as the rock Danny had noticed when he was petting the wolf’s head.
Was he... No, he was probably just looking too deep in a shallow lake. He just got here, he shouldn’t jump to those kinds of conclusions. Where was the wolf, anyways?
“Oh, hey, you and the wolf have the same markings. Are you two friends or something?” Danny asked. He wasn’t sure why he went with that instead of introducing himself, but that’s what happened. Twilight, the name Wind had called him, nodded and kept his smile.
What was that brief look for, though?
“Yeah, he helped me out on my adventure. Saved me from a fate worse than death. The mark just appeared after a while. Speaking of the wolf, I heard about how you were calm when he approached you and was a little surprised. Most people would attack a wolf approaching.” Twilight said. Danny felt the need to explain himself and shrugged.
“I don’t know if this part was mentioned to you yet, but I thought he was a dog. Besides, he was nice and helped me find my bag after taking down a red, ugly thing that was going to kill me, so I figured it was safe to trust him after I was told he was actually a wolf.” He said. Wind moved next to both of them and caught both of their attention.
“Twilight’s probably the nicest in the group, but he’s a great fighter, so he’s going to be sparring you.” Wind said. Danny’s eyes widened and he almost took a step back. He glanced back at Twilight, who was obviously a bit bigger than him.
He must’ve looked as anxious as he suddenly felt because Twilight spoke up.”Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll be fine. We’re going to switch between defense, offense, and then we do both at the same time. It’ll just be to see how strong and fast you already are, and we’re going to wait until your injury’s much better.” He explained. Danny nodded. He noticed Wild practically appear next to him and offer him a wooden shield. As much as he didn’t want to, Danny accepted the shield with a “thank you”.
(I worry that it might be rushed or not very good, so if you have anything you think needs pointing out or constructive criticism, or any kind of feedback really, that would be really, really appreciated!)
Life on the farm pt 7 friends on the other side
Danny stared at the chicken in front of him as though it held all the answers of the universe, and perhaps Lady Chickovsky did but she wasn’t about to share. Danny sighed flopping on the ground in frustration. Pa laughed from his seat on the porch.
“Y’know I don’t think the chickens have the answers your looking for.”
Danny turned to look at Pa “I’m trying to master portals, while I have no intention of going back to my old universe, I do have a responsibility to the infinite realms as their king.”
Pa nodded “that’s good, I’m glad you’ve found a home here but you should never abandon your responsibilities. How did you get there before?”
“Jack and Maddie had a portal in the basement lab. It’s actually how I…y’know” Danny answered nervously. Pa nodded.
“I don’t know much about all that but, not to brag, I helped Clark figure out a few of his powers. Let’s see what we can do.” Danny gave Pa a huge grin.
Ma came to check on them around lunch time and smiled at her boys. They clearly got distracted at some point as she’s certain they weren’t originally making ice sculptures of cujo.
“BOYS!! TIME FOR LUNCH!!” The two froze and Danny raced to the table with Pa following behind him. He stopped at the door to greet his wife with a kiss. “Having fun?”
“Always”
When they make it inside Danny is finishing setting the table. They all sit down to enjoy the lovely lunch ma made. “So what have you boys been up to?”
Danny swallowed his food “I’m trying to figure out how to make portals. I need to visit the infinite realms soon or else Fright Knight may start an inquisition.” Ma smiles.
“It’s so easy to forget that our little man is a king.” Ma smiles at him with pride “So how did that end with the ice sculptures?” Danny gave her a sheepish grin
“Well ya see, we were talking about each of my abilities and I realized I hadn’t shown you two my ice powers yet. There’s only one other power but I don’t plan on showing that off anytime soon, last thing I wanna do is level the farm.” Ma laughs
“Well I’ll toast to that. Why don’t you ask your new friends for help. Conner called earlier, they’re back from their mission, I’m sure he’d love to help.” Danny grinned
“That sounds like a great idea.” He jumped up and started doing his dishes. Ma grinned at Pa.
“I’m sure that Kaldur boy would be more than happy to help as well.” Danny froze, the two chuckled as they could see his cheeks glowing green from the table. “And take cujo with you, he misses Conner.”
———-
Cujo charged through the woods near mount justice, coming to a halt as they approached. Danny dismounted his loyal steed as he shrank down. He then plopped himself on Danny’s head for some much deserved rest.
With practiced ease Danny snuck his way through the mountain and slowly crept up behind his little brother. Slowly, ever so slowly he approached lifting Cujo from the top of his head and placing the invisible pup right next to Conners face as he spoke with robin. Cujo opened his eyes and upon seeing Conner he brutally attacked his face with the force of a thousand kisses. Conner jumped back but there was nowhere to hide as he fell to the floor under cujos might. Danny turned visible as he doubled over in laughter
“DANNY!” Conner screams, Danny grabs cujo from conners chest and gives him some ear scratches.
“Awww you love Conner dont you!” He gushes before setting Cujo loose to go find his buddy. Danny leans over to help Conner up. “You can’t be too mad, you left yourself wide open.”
He laughs “yeah yeah, so what’s with the surprise visit?” Danny looks at Conner aghast
“Can’t I visit my little brother without some ulterior motive.” Conner simply raises an eyebrow.
“Fine, you got me. Kinda. I did want to see my little brother, you were gone for a week on that last mission and you didn’t even call.”
“I called!!”
“No, you called Ma, but that’s fine, clear who the favorite is.” Danny mad a great show of being discouraged. Conner grinned knocking Danny in the shoulder.
“If it makes you feel better you are definitely my favorite brother.” Danny grinned
“Oh that makes me feel infinitely better, care to say that again for the camera.” Conner laughed even as Danny got serious “he hasn’t given you any problems right?” Conner smiled
“After the talking to be got from ma? No way. He’s actually really come around, I think seeing you interact will Ellie really helped.” Danny laughed
“Yeah she has that effect on people. Anyway I actually stopped by to see if y’all would be willing to help me figure out how to make portals?”
“You can make portals?!” Robin popped in.
“Not yet, but I’m capable, I just can’t seem to make a fully stable portal.”
Conner looked at Danny concerned “are you trying to go somewhere?” Danny looked at him surprised before grinning and throwing an arm around his shoulder
“Nah l, just got some stuff I gotta take care of. Why? You gonna miss me?” Conner shoved Danny off of him “NO! I’m just concerned because you’d get lost trying to get out of a paper bag.”
Danny grins “sure you are. Anyway I gotta get this figured out, the sooner the better, I wouldn’t want any surprise guests looking for me.” At the look Conner gave him he responded “like I said nothing to worry about.” Conner sighed
“How am I the responsible one?” Danny laughed
“You’re not I promise, that would be Jazz. You haven’t met her yet. She’s interning with a psychiatrist in Gotham.” Robin perked up
“Really who?” Danny shrugged
“Just some lady in waaayy too much makeup. I wouldn’t be too worried. Jazz is more than capable of taking care of herself and she’s not afraid to call for help if need be.” A hand lands on his shoulder.
“I think you’ve gotten distracted Danny.” Says a voice from behind him. Danny looks at the hand and blushes as he turns around to find Kaldur standing right behind him. “Now what’s this about needing help?” He says with a smile.
————
Three hours and 6 (minor!) explosions later Danny plopped on the couch “this is pointless”
Kaldur sits down next to Danny “it’s not pointless, you were really close that last time.” Danny looks up at Conner across the room. Robin and Wally had abandoned them at the second hour.
“He’s lying.” Conner states with no mercy. Kaldur shrugs “you’ll get it eventually”
“Wülf makes it look so easy” Danny complained. Everyone looked at him like he was crazy.
“Last I checked wolf can’t make portals.” Now Danny is the one looking at Conner weird
“What are you talking about Wülf is like, the portal master and ohhh we’re talking about two different wolfs. Okay I swear I’m just as sane as usual, which I know doesnt mean much but I swear it’s not a joke. Wülf is really cool.” Danny started to pace “He helped me beat up a cop… a ghost cop but he was a dick and wanted to lock Wülf up just because he broke one of his stupid rules. And trust me they were stupid, there was a rule for everything. I’m pretty sure he had a rule about how to tie your shoes correctly and if you broke a rule he’d sentence you to roughly 1000 years in his prison. Like I said he was crazy, he’s mellowed out a bit over the years but he’s still pretty weird….” Danny paused in his pacing “what was I talking about again?” He swiftly turned back towards Kaldur and conner. “Wülf! He’s one of my best friends in the realms. Trust me he’s awesome.”
At some point during Danny’s tangent a large green portal appeared behind him putting the teen heroes on guard. A, frankly, giant bipedal wolf with chains around its neck and hands? Exited the portal and started making its way towards the distracted Danny. Kaldur slowly tried to get close to pull Danny away but it was too late, the creature stood directly behind Danny. The two teens made to attack when the creature opened its large muzzle and… talked?
“dankon mia amiko pro la afablaj vortoj” Danny spun around to face the creature before wrapping his arms around him happily shouting “Wülf!”
Wülf smiled? “Mi aŭdis vin voki, ĉu vi bezonas helpon?”
Danny shook his head. “Mi ĵus diris al mia frateto, kiel mirinda vi estas!” Danny paused “efektive mi ne ĝenus kelkajn konsiletojn pri kiel ŝiri portalojn, mi vere bezonas halti ĉe la kastelo”
“estus mia plezuro mia amiko, tamen por ŝiri portalon oni bezonas ungegojn” Danny paused and just stared at wülf as if he just revealed that he was actually a monkey in a trench coat.
Danny turned to Kaldur and Conner “well first things first guys this is my friend Wülf. He’s saved my butt multiple times. Second apparently I’m an idiot who needs claws.” Danny stared at his hand as it slowly was encased in an erie glow, his fingertips started to get sharper and sharper until they could only be described as claws. He focused his energy into the claws and the two heroes stepped back as he sliced through the air leaving behind a rift.
“That is significantly easier with claws” Danny stated causing the two heroes to laugh. Wülf clearly agreed as he let out a barking laugh. It was at this moment that robin and wally walked in the room to find Kaldur patting Danny on the back while a green werewolf and Conner laughed at what was clearly Danny’s expense. The two looked at each other before asking
“What did we miss?”
Translation
Thank you for the kind words my friend
I heard you call, do you need help
No I was telling my brother how awesome you are
Actually I could really use some tips on how to rip portals, I really need to visit the castle
It would be my pleasure my friend, however in order to rip a portal my friend you need claws
Just for formality sake, is it alright to draw fanart based on your AU?
Ancients YES!!! I love fanart so much. I legitimately cry when I get any, and then immediately run off to show my entire family and all of my friends.
For anyone else who was wondering: this is me giving enthusiastic consent for you to draw fanart based on my AU.
The only thing I ask is that you tag me in it so I can see it and share it and gush over it! 💚💚
A snippet for you! This could count as spoilery but I've been mentioning almost from the beginning that the boys were gonna yoink Timmers from Batman and be his new gay dads so it's not a surprise we're finally getting to them at least being in the same city.
~~~~~~☆☆☆☆~~~~~
Ancients, even Jazz had stopped trying to talk them out of it. It helped that Tucker had made a compilation video of every time Robin got hurt while doing hero work and showed it to Jazz.
It was concerningly long.
Now Jazz had resigned herself to another little brother. Well. She claimed she was resigned but Jason had video evidence that she'd nearly stormed out of the Mausoleum with the Fenton Anti-Creep Stick in hand to beat Batman and steal his Robin from him after watching the compilation.
Jason, obviously, hadn't been the one to stop her. He'd been excited to see Jasmine Nightingale versus Batman. His money was on Jazz.
~~~~~~☆☆☆☆☆~~~~~~~~
My money is on Jazz too, tbh. It's the Rage of an overprotective older sister who already had to watch one teenage hero get hurt she's not gonna do it again.
Cold Surprise
Traveler, she's exhausted.
The gun in her hand is heavier than it should be and she can't shake this chill seeping along her spine.
Europa is the antithesis of an ideal location for a mission and she's begun to lose feeling in her fingers despite the Solar energy singing through her veins.
She's beginning to think Elsie's lead is a dead end as well.
The wind picks up and the Guardian curls in on herself a fraction just before she picks up on the sound of a transmat behind her. Her head lifts just as Crow kneels beside her, his hood drawn up over his head, his eyes fixated on the canyon below.
"Anything?" He calls over the wind.
"Nothing," her Ghost supplies over the radio. "We've been up here for hours. I don't think that House of Salvation captain is coming."
Crow looks at the Guardian, her form visibly trembling from the cold now. He inches closer, maneuvering behind her before his arms bind around her shoulders from behind.
The Young Wolf goes rigid for an instant before leaning back against him.
"You're frozen," Crow reprimands, hot breath fanning against the side of her neck.
She hums a sound of assent, cuddling back against the wall of heat behind her. His Light is so much stronger than her own right now. She'd had to amplify hers - crank up the heat, as it were, to counter the extreme temperatures of Europa.
That was more than fourteen hours ago.
No wonder she's so tired.
Crow gives her a gentle squeeze, shielding her frame from the wind. "How long until you want to call it?"
"Few more hours?" The Guardian offers softly, angling her head to rest against his.
"Guardian, you're already half froze to death."
"You're here to keep me warm now," she murmurs, smiling beneath her helmet.
"Now you sound delirious."
She snorts, readjusting her hold on her weapon, flexing aching muscle as she scans the passage below them.
"Here," Crow's Light surges, solar cascading against every inch of her back. It seeps beyond the chill, warming her to something more tolerable. His hands move, closing around hers on the rifle.
She wonders how cold he is but then the question is chased away by heat flourishing along leather and almost instantly warming her fingers.
"Thank you," she manages, bumping her helmet against Crow's shoulder gently.
"Anytime, Guardian."
It's only after the cold is chased from the forefront of her mind that she realizes exactly how close Crow is. His chest pressed against her shoulder blades. His breath against the side of her neck.
She stifles a shiver but there's enough movement that Crow tightens his hold around her - as if he thought she still needed to be warmed and the flush he can't see along her face is from the cold.
"You alright?" Crow murmurs softly.
"Fine," she forces out, just trying to draw a full breath but too aware of his touch and proximity to do anything but stay still and close and warm.
His fingers trace along her knuckles, almost like a soothing gesture before he gives her a squeeze.
"You're rigid, Guardian."
Thank the Traveler for her helmet to hide the crimson quickly overpowering the rose in her cheeks.
"...stiff. From the cold," she scans the canyon. "Don't wo–"
Crow's hands move up her forearms, massaging around gauntlet plating. His fingers leave every nerve on fire in their wake for an entirely different reason. She finds it more and more difficult to pull free, to tell him to return to the H.E.L.M. and stop distracting her. To not soothe–
Fuck it.
The Young Wolf sags against him, letting her eyes flutter shut as he works over her muscles.
Crow chuckles above her head and she swears he presses a kiss to the hood of her cloak. By the time he reaches her shoulders, she's struggling to stay awake.
Perhaps she got too comfortable despite the frigid cold around her.
"I think we're done here," Crow says softly, easing his arms around her waist, "Let's get you home, Guardian, before my Light starts to succumb to the cold."
She snorts but lets him help her up. Ghost transmats her rifle away and Crow guides her arm around his shoulders to steady her.
"We'll take my ship. You're in no condition to fly." Crow smiles down at her.
If she had the energy to argue, she would. But letting the Gunslinger look after her is more enticing after being half froze to death for hours on end.
"I'll fly it remote," Ghost assures her and she offers nothing more than a nod. She is far too aware of the Hunter's touch along her waist, the warmth of his frame against hers.
They've never been this close to one another. Never more than strides side-by-side through a hall. All those months ago, that night by the fire when they drank and talked…she hadn't broached that barrier. They'd sat shoulder to shoulder, enjoying the night. She tries to forget Savathún had been there, focus simply on the flutter she didn't recognize in her chest - the very same she feels now.
As the two are swept up in a transmat from Glint, the Young Wolf presses closer to Crow after they land in the hold of his ship. He guides her over to a small cot in the corner, helping the Gunslinger down. She groans softly as she settles, the full extent of the ache registering on dulled senses.
"I'll be right back," he murmurs, touching her helmet gently before disappearing up into the cockpit.
That was…almost an endearing gesture.
She curls up, willing her Solar to rise and warm her but it will not obey. It sputters in protest before settling back in its steady, low thrum output.
Dammit. Exhaustion must be getting to me.
Around her, the ship shudders as it climbs through the atmosphere, blasting from the blizzard into cold, open space.
"Glint, take it from here," Crow's voice carries from the cockpit before his form fills the entryway to the hold.
She can feel his gaze on her. Steady, yet, somehow searing. It burns along her form and—
No. No, that's her nerves learning what sensation is once more. Still, her head tilts so she can watch Crow approach. He grabs an emergency blanket, unfurling the fabric before draping it over her.
He's so close.
He leans on the cot, tucking the edges around her body while she can do little more than stare up at him in wonder from behind a visor.
"You're not all that subtle when you stare, Guardian." He teases warmly and her cheek flush, her gaze immediately snapping away from him
"Thank you," she manages softly.
"You're very welcome, Guardian."
He sounds so…genuine. Gentle and sweet and–
He's climbing onto the cot to lay beside her.
The Young Wolf uncurls a bit to make room, embarrassed she'd - well, she was cold. He won't fault her for that.
As she stares at Crow across from her, mere inches from her helmet, the Gunslinger opens his arms for her. "Come here. You need to warm up and Solar is the easiest way to do that."
"I'm–"
"Damn near frozen to death. Come here. I don't bite…hard." That sweet yet mischievous smile of his flashes across soft lips–
When did she start looking at his lips? Why did she start looking–
Actually, it doesn't matter. It's fine. She can warm up and it will all be fine. She can do this.
"Ghost?" She whispers, not trusting her voice to be steady at full volume. But then again, Crow might presume she's just shaking from the cold.
Her companion transmats in and sweeps his Light over her. In the process, her Ghost replaces her armors with warm, dry clothes and only then does the Young Wolf shift closer to Crow and snuggle in.
He's so warm.
Her only thought.
Not 'he smells nice'. Or 'he's very muscular beneath all those layers'.
Just…he's warm.
That's all that matters to her utterly exhausted brain and that's what she'd hoped for.
The Young Wolf buries her face against the warm skin of his neck. With Crow's arms around her, she's more than content to try and rest for the duration of the flight home.
"Comfortable?" He asks, his voice rumbling through her and she shivers for a reason beyond the cold.
Not trusting her voice, she makes a sound of assent. Perhaps he'll attribute it to her exhaustion.
"You can touch me," he teases. "Might be warmer if you–" he hisses in surprise as she presses frigid fingers against the other side of his neck.
"Funny."
She hums a soft chuckle.
You told me to touch you.
His arm unwraps from around her and takes her hand, heat rolling off his fingers in gentle waves. It pierces through the cold, warming her very bones and she's never been more relieved to be pulled off a post early.
"Thank you…Crow." She whispers.
"You're welcome, Guardian. Now rest, that's an order. Old Light."
She doesn't take orders from a New Light…but just this once, she'll make an exception.
After all, he's here to keep her warm now and that's all she needs.
Ankou
But Christine Daaé listened. She listened to her father’s music, she listened to the voices in the wind, to the sighs of the air in the trees and to the song of the sea. She listened to the birdsong: the sad call of the gulls; the knowing crows; the sweet chatter of the sparrows. She listened to the stories of the travellers at the inns where they stayed as they tramped about the lowlands of southern Sweden. But most of all she listened to her father’s tales, told to her around the fire that he lit for them at night; the strange stories of the far North, the deep forests and the fairies, the old gods, the monsters and the beauties.
@eriksdreamery was kind enough to read my fic Ankou and let me know about a couple of songs by Wolf Alice that they felt really reminded them of Christine in this fic.
I love the idea of Christine being a sort of witch, a young woman who is aware of the spirits and the elements and the things that live in the darkness. I was especially inspired by the Breton legend of the Ankou, who comes to harvest the souls of the dead and who never leaves empty handed.
This is a ‘bad end for everyone’ fic, but Christine is almost as dangerous and as mad as Erik. Maybe even madder? They’re both completely taken by the stories they’ve been told or made up for themselves and that’s why they’re such a perfect and terrible couple. Christine believes Erik when he says he’s the Angel of Music because Christine knows that it’s perfectly possible that the Angel of Music would choose to talk to her through a mirror in her dressing room. Unfortunately, Erik completely underestimates Christine’s capacity for desctruction. Does she possess supernatural powers? Or is she the imaginative daughter of a sad and dying father who told her stories to protect her from the reality of their poverty of their lives?
I was also inspired by Angela Carter’s series of fairytale retellings The Bloody Chamber, so I was really pleased to find that Wolf Alice got their band name from a short story by Angela Carter. There’s synchronicity for you.
Here are the two songs that @eriksdreamery mentioned to me:
After the Zero Hour
Suddenly, she lost control of her world A fire blazed and a chaos unfurled A transcendent invitation To the zero hour She gave in to the temptation High on curiosity High on power But this girl refused to die So she drank the milk of life Was it the moon and the changing tide? Yeah, this girl refused to die So she drank the milk of life Felt like the start of the ninth life To feel pleasure again To feel love Adventurous and sensuous, as high as the planes above Don't wait with bated breath For this to all turn sour She's learnt how to say yes High on curiosity High on power So this girl refused to cry But embrace her lust for life Was it the moon and the changing tide? Yeah, this girl refused to cry But embrace her lust for life Eyes straight ahead and open wide
Visions of a Life
The skin on my bones is leather cold Poisoned my heart beats slow Fear of crashing and not coming back I'm a curse to my friends, to be condemned Mistakes I made and won't mend Fear of crashing and not coming back I dream of death, its violent breath I'm caught with my maker in step Fear of crashing and not coming back I could bleach clean my soul, but he knows I know I'm coming to dine in his hole Fear of crashing and not coming back Visions of a life Where I was satisfied Feed my hungry mind Where are you when I close my eyes? I left this world behind For the world I'd built inside Feed my hungry mind Where are you when I close my eyes? Why do I feel so strange? A nuclear family and friends my own age I follow the rules, do what it says on the tin But I'm still on the outside still looking in Why was I born with itchy feet? And why do I hate all the people I meet? People's ideals give me the chills to the bone I got one thousand million friends and I feel so alone Stay as you are Everybody likes you Everybody cares There's some insight for you I'll get my coat I'll be the bitch I heard that journeys end in lovers meeting But my journey ends when my heart stops beating I'm leaving Human heart in my hand Heart in my, human heart in my hand Taking it back, eyes straight ahead Cut it in half, better than dead Human heart in my hand Heart in my, human heart in my hand Taking it back, eyes straight ahead Cut it in half, better than dead Human heart in my hand Heart in my, human heart in my hand Taking it back, eyes straight ahead Cut it in half, it's better than dead
// corpse au
so because I can't be normal and have to overthink logic i asked a friend (@arcturusmsc) what they thought if whether if say danny pulled his corpse's organs out through intangibility (its corpse au) but then go tangible part way through would they either cut at the source or make a hole in the bod.
while i just had him rip his stomach open instead in the end they deadass got a physicist friend to answer this so here y'all go if y'all need writing tips for intangible stuff 😭😭😭
Have a moose-wolf ghost ^^ with a little DC bat child vigilante Orphan as an extra treat
Tumblr media
This is based on the ao3 crossover story "Vacation Crashers" https://archiveofourown.org/works/35289169/chapters/87947314
This was just sort of my take on the moose wolf, love the art of the ghost at the end of the chapters, but I just wanted to try and make my own based on what I might think it'd look like
Imagine a giant gangly and tall moose ghost with large teeth and sharp antlers rushing after you and chasing you into trees cuz it doesnt abide by the regular laws of gravity and hopping around trees like it's a bouncy squirrel
Dont think I'll color this but itll be fine on it's own. Hopefully
