Regarding Bards as an Aspect Overabundance
Hopping on my old classpecting blog bc I have something I'd like to share with the class regarding Bards.
So Bards and Princes are both destruction classes, Bard being passive and Prince being active. Along with that, it's stated that Princes are lacking their aspect and thus so is the session. Bards, meanwhile, destroy passively, not always in control of what they destroy. I prefer to use the term "corrupt" because it brings up a clearer picture of what "destroying passively" means. Unlike Princes, however, it is never directly stated that Bards lack their aspect or that their aspect is lacking in the session (citation needed). I'd like to argue that it's because not only are they not lacking their aspect, but that they possess their aspect in abundance and, as such, so does the session they are in.
In canon Homestuck we only have 2 bards: Gamzee, Bard of Rage, and Cronus, Bard of Hope. Let's talk about Cronus first, since there's less info on him. In the Act 6 Intermission 3 Openbound, we learn a bit about Cronus during the time in the session. He used to be a nerdy kid who loved wizards, but then eventually he left that behind, especially after he died and learned about humans. So, now he claims to be human in spirit and acts like a 1950's greaser. He's also a perv but I don't think that's related. I interpret Hope players as having a very strong sense of self, so Cronus changing up his personality like this is a very interesting look at Bards, especially since it seems like he doesn't really care about how he was before. It's not that he doesn't like how he was before, but more that he's moved on from it to something new. His self (his hope) has been Corrupted and now he's different. Along with that, he does seem to have an almost foolish level of hope, as he immediately volunteers to help fight Lord English when asked. As for his session, it's really hard to tell if they did have an overabundance of Hope since we see very little of the Dancestor Session on screen, but I believe we can assume it had more Hope than Rage, especially since they had a Prince of Rage in the form of Kurloz.
Cronus is a bit hard to use to definitively assert this claim of mine, but that's why Gamzee is very important. Gamzee is the Bard of Rage, and boy does he sure have it. Rage is all about emotions and raw power, something he has In Spades. Gamzee is one of the strongest Beta Trolls, arguably the strongest, and as we see in his many bloody outings, he is dripping in Rage. He has an obvious overabundance of his aspect, which was kept down in his early years by eating soper pies, keeping him high and unaware of his emotions. We get hints of his power here and there, like when Karkat commented on the fact that he dealt a great blow to the Black King in their session, but it wasn't until Dave sent him the ICP music video that he finally snapped and went on a rampage. Years and years of Rage that had built up exploded like a dam, and it was disastrous, as he went on a killing rampage. If ever there was an overabundance of an aspect in Bards, as I have asserted, this is very clearly evidence for that. However, was there an abundance of Rage in the session itself? I'd argue yes to that as well. Throughout the whole session, there were many moments of sabotage, subterfuge, distrust, and loathing. Hell, the whole game was even meant to be a competition before they did the whole double mobius reacharound. This mixed with the lack of Hope thanks to the Prince, Eridan, makes it a bit of a miracle that the session ever was completed. Even after the new universe was created, Rage was apparent. Gamzee wasn't the only one who went on a killing rampage, as we see both Vriska and Eridan give in to their bloody desires. It's pretty clear to me that Rage was a major force at work in their session, due to the overabundance that Gamzee possessed.
This is my evidence for how Bards have both an overabundance of their own aspect, but also cause the session to have an overabundance as well. I think I've laid out a good argument as to why and how I interpret the class and gave a bit of insight into how I look at classes within both the story and classpecting itself.

The Dodo bird isn't pronounced /ˈdōˌdō/
This is actually a myth that was spread by people who weren't living during the time these birds still roamed the earth.
The Dutch captain, Willem van Westsanen, was the first to actually call the bird, 'dodo'. The bird's original name was 'walgvogel'- Dutch that translates to 'ugly bird'. The punishment fits the crime.
I have found out that dodo is pronounced /dŏd,ō/.
Every syllable of every word must have at least one vowel sound. A vowel can stand alone in a syllable, as in u•nit and an•i•mal. The long sound can be in the middle of the word in a different syllable than another vowel, but it has to fit certain criteria for this to happen like for example being in a vowel team- or the silent e rule.
Dutch words make different sounds than English words. The two words apple – appel sound (basically)the same because we have different rules. Here's an example with an animal- deer in Dutch is hert, it's a completely different word. In theory the word dodo could be pronounced in a completely different way if we translate it into English.
That being said, /dŏd,ō/ is the only possible answer to the question of how we should pronounce it. It cannot be /d,ōdō/ for one cannot have a syllable without a vowel (excluding onomatopoeias those don't listen to the rules). /ˈdōˌdō/ isn't correct either because /dŏd,ō/ is better. That might sound nonsensical, but I will assure you that type of thing happens all the time. Nuclear is often mispronounced as 'nuke-you-lerr' or 'Nu-cu-lar'- these being the widely used pronunciations are incorrect. The correct pronunciation is 'NEW-clee-er' this is because it's just better.
Although I have researched this very thoroughly, and have provided some sound evidence, I see that you might not be convinced that /dŏd,ō/ is the correct way to pronounce the word dodo. One last thing before I close, if we all started saying dodo like this it'd be really funny.
Thank you for taking your time to read this.

The Political Landscape for Transgender Rights and Its Implications
Anna Bojorqiez
Many people don’t even realize that transgender rights are under attack, or care about the “culture war”, the cultural conflict that has become much more prominent due to failing institutions, growing inequalities, and technology that encourages people to cluster in their cultural groups.
But the fact of the matter is that this culture war is going to harm the people it is targeting. Former President Donald Trump has promised to ban gender-affirming care for minors, and to go after gender-affirming healthcare providers.
During this past years Conservative Political Action Coalition (CPAC), which is a political rally full of speeches, panel discussions, breakout sessions, and networking breakfasts. Michael Knowels, a political pundit with conservative values on the media company known as the Daily Wire, has called for the eradication of “transgenderism”.
The state of transgender rights to gender-affirming healthcare is dire, and help from cishet allies is needed.
In this essay I will define those who stand in the way of gender-affirming healthcare and the context surrounding it, the implications of banning it, and then provide solutions to making gender affirming care a national right.
Tumblr media
My Personal Experience
As a transgender person myself, I feel the impact first-hand. There are nights when I cry myself to sleep, knowing that my trans siblings in conservative states might or will have their access to gender affirming care cut off by these invasive laws and consequently die out of fear that the same could happen to me if a Republican takes office as president again.
It is a traumatic experience to watch our rights get slowly stripped away, state by state, and it is an experience that is not talked about enough within spaces occupied by cishet people.
LGB Drop the T
Even in the gay community, there is a growing number of gay people in the UK who are aligning themselves with the LGB Alliance, which is a trans-exclusive radical feminist (TERF) group.
TERFs, as the name would suggest, are radical feminists who reject the inclusion and recognition of transgender people in feminist spaces.
However, this differs from the intersectional feminist ideas of intersectionality, which takes account the different ways in which women experience discrimination, whereas TERF feminism is a form of white feminism and has a tendency to overshadow not only the struggles of queer women, but women of color, disabled women, and women in other minority groups.
This puts TERFs in a weird position where they align more with fascists that believe in authoritarianism and the exclusion of people who don’t fit into their definitions of “normal”.
JK Rowling And Matt Walsh Bond Over Transphobia
In fact, the author of the Harry Potter book series and well known TERF activist J.K. Rowling, has made numerous transphobic dog whistles on twitter.
She has also praised the right-wing political commentator for the Daily Wire who has directly quoted fascists’ speeches, Matt Walsh, for his What Is a Woman documentary, stating that the film did a “good job exposing the incoherence of gender identity theory and some of the harms it's done.”
This is just a minuscule example of how even liberal people who consider themselves openminded individuals can just as easily turn around and stab the trans community in the back.
Tumblr media
No, Were Not Grooming Your Kids.
With that said, many conservatives and TERFs have repeatedly made the claim that transgender people are “grooming kids” into transitioning, which is a process by which a predator builds trust and emotional connection with someone, usually a minor, for the purposes of abusing or exploiting the person who is being groomed.
There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that transgender people are grooming children. There is, however, ample evidence to show that gender-affirming healthcare, such as Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and puberty blockers, greatly improves the lives of transgender minors.
Why Minors Are Coming Out and the History of Left-Handedness
One might be asking, “if trans people aren’t grooming kids, why are so many minors coming out and transitioning?” The answer to that is simple.
If you are familiar with the left-handedness graph from the beginning of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century, you will see that left-handedness was at a low. Over the years it began to increase, and for similar reasons the transgender population is increasing. In the early 1900s, around 3% of the population identified as lefthanded. Over the course of the next 60 years, we saw an increase in the amount of left-handed people, but after the 1960s, the graph begins to even out.
This is because in the 1900s, there was a lot of religious and societal stigma around left-handedness, and people who were left-handed were forced to use their right hands, and wouldn’t admit to being left-handed due to the potential social backlash. (10)
Tumblr media
Similarly, up until recently, most people didn’t even know that transgender people existed, and those that did often used offensive terms to describe transgender folks, which contributed to an environment of hostility towards transgender people.
For so long, so many trans people were afraid to come out due to the social backlash that came with it. But in the late 2010s and early 2020s, trans people were just barely starting to be shown in some mainstream media outlets in a positive light, and more people started to come out overtime.
Overtime, as acceptance of the transgender community begins to grow, the percentage of transgender folks will start to even out, just like it did in the left-handedness graph.
Left-handed people did not groom right-handed people into becoming left-handed, acceptance of left-handedness increased. In the same way, transgender adults are not grooming kids to become transgender; transgender kids are just starting to feel safe enough to come out, and it would be silly to suggest otherwise.
Banning Gender Affirming Healthcare Is Going to Kill Us
In addition, there is evidence to suggest that these bills that are banning gender-affirming care for transgender people, particularly minors, have been and are going to increase suicidality in the trans community.
In a policy analysis by Journal of Law Med Ethics, it mentions that these laws impact the trans community by shaping the contexts within which they receive social services, healthcare, and engage with their communities, and by “creating an overarching social landscape within which anti-trans sentiment and rhetoric cultivate misunderstanding of, hostility towards, and even violence against trans folks."
In a 2018 study by the American Academy of Pediatrics found that “nearly 14% of [transgender] adolescents reported a previous suicide attempt,” while the Journal of Law Med Ethics policy analysis found that the suicide attempt rate for transgender youths in 2022 was 19%.
The suicide attempt rate increase may seem small and insignificant, but that is a major increase. It is no coincidence that the suicide attempt rate has gone up as the amount of anti-trans bills being proposed goes up. This goes to show just how dangerous these laws are to the transgender population, and the need for everyone, including cisgender people, to stand up for what is right.
Tumblr media
What Can We Do?
The situation in the US surrounding gender-affirming healthcare rights may seem hopeless to some, especially trans folks, but there are ways to help.
Cis allies need to talk to other cis people about the issue, spread awareness, and advocate for trans rights. People who are anti-trans aren’t going to listen to other trans people.
Cis people need to stop voting for the Republicans, and consider voting for a progressive candidate. Engage with lawmakers, especially local lawmakers. Attend townhall meetings, write letters, make phone calls, and use social media to urge them to oppose or repeal discriminatory legislation with evidence-based arguments and personal experiences.
And if all else fails, go to protests and make your voice heard.
Final Thoughts on the Issue
Hopefully this essay will clear up any misconceptions about the political implications of banning gender-affirming care.
In conclusion, the rights of the transgender community are being stripped away state by state. This will cause irreparable harm to transgender people, and will result in an increased suicide rate among those who are gender-nonconforming.
We need to meet each other where were at and ask questions to better understand each other, engage with lawmakers, and vote. It is vital to the survival of trans community that we take action now.

i found a book abt the anti lawn movement at the library & decided to sit out in my yard & read it. but ironically there was a neverending barage of power tool noises making it difficult to focus. so i walked to a nature park near me in order to escape the dreaded sounds. almost stopped at the mowed picnic table area bc i hate walking but fortunately pushed forward and made myself walk up an annoying hill to an area that is a preservation of a native oak savanna & sat down against a tree near the edge of the path & did my reading there. and honest to god that was a 100/10 experience. there was something so powerful abt being in a preserve for a locally native habitat while reading abt the impacts homeowners can have on native plant preservation! it powered up my energy towards my life mission (evangelize abt enviormentally sustainable gardening to every single person who comes within a 10 ft radius of me) by like. 15 points. also a deer walked up to me and that was super cool

Twitter: Wilbur didn't do anything! There's no proof!
Wilbur in his apology:
"this persons feelings are completely vaild"
"These actions caused alot of pain to my ex-girlfriend"
"I have come to realise how much my past behaviour hurt this person"
(Realise Google definition: become fully AWARE of (something) as a fact; understand CLEARLY)
"I understood from our numerous conversation [...] consensual" followed by "while I may have perceived our interactions differently, I recognise that has processed and expressed feeling of hurt"
His "I understood" turns to a very uncertain "I may have perceived" - the additional "may have" making him seem not very confident in what he's saying.
He's confident in the things that make him look better but not confident when it comes to the overall overview of the situation because he saw it different.
He recognised that he had done something bad. This is from his apology himself!
But The Looky why are you taking apart quotes?
Wilbur Soot, on multiple occasions, has stated that he is an English Major (he literally wrote most the dsmp scripts), so why would an English major international use this type of wording.
Because when you take it apart, it makes him seem more confident in himself and pushes that he's not confident in her 'allegations'
His lack of confidence and acknowledgment is a divisive move by Wilbur to capitalise on his vulnerable fans and audience to make them believe in him more. The MEDIA and NEWS do this all the time.
It creates a "if he doesn't know what he's talking about then he didn't do it vibe" or a plain display ignorance, to make him look better.
And he made an apology UNPROMPTED, like when shelby said her ex she didn't say Wilbur.
It could have been an ex before or after him, if it wasn't him then he wouldn't need to apologise and could've been like "Hey that's not me!"
He didn't. He said it was him by making a response. Why apologise for something you didn't do?
You could argue that Shelby was a "terrible partner" or "used him for his clout" but on what basis?
If she was a terrible partner that's make a pair, and there is a bunch of evidence that support the fact that Wilbur behaves the way BOTH HE AND SHE HAVE STATED.
And if she was "using him for clout" then he could have been like, "Hey I don't like you. I don't want to stream with you anymore"
But then he joined Origins Smp and Shelby was there, they were both ghost, he goes out of his way to interact with her.
Your gonna act like if Wilbur told Tommy he was uncomfortable with Shelby being there, Tommy would have said no? Really?
And in the some Wilbur / shelby streams Wilbur was at her house.
Wilbur would have been better of saying his apology was AI generated and to have written a new one with he excuse, "he was in a rush"

You’re a psychology professor, right? Do you mind if I ask what exactly your research expertise/discipline is? Whatever it is always seems so fascinating to me whenever bits of it come up here. At the risk of doxxing yourself, would you be willing to talk about your research?
So if you don't mind, I'm going to answer this a little to the left of the ask. Less because I'm worried about Tumblrers doxxing, more because I'm terrified of my students or coworkers stumbling upon this blog.
My top six essays and articles that explain what I research, none of which are authored by me:
Empathy or Division? On the Science and Politics of Storytelling by Claire Corbett opens up with the lines "Writers can’t always be trusted when they talk about the power and importance of story. We have a vested interest and can get sentimental, promoting the immense power of story, of narrative, as inherently benign" — and it only gets better from there. Storytelling is a tool, one that can harm as much as help; anyone who says differently is selling something.
The Enshittification of TikTok by Cory Doctorow (yes, that Cory Doctorow) does an excellent job of explaining how the forces of individual psychology interacting with the forces of economics and society lead to the enshittification (exactly what it sounds like) of mass resources like social media platforms.
Superhero Comics as Moral Pornography by David Pizarro and Roy Baumeister. Although undeniably negative toward aspects of Western superhero stories, this essay also has a pretty forgiving definition of pornography. Like Corbett's, it takes a refreshingly cynical view of the power of storytelling.
The Mythology of Karen by Helen Lewis explains how a meme (in the sense of a sticky, culturally specific idea) can be sexist and antiracist, empowering and ageist, and trying to force it into molds of "good" or "bad" will never work.
What Do We Know When We Know a Person? by Dan McAdams. I've seen this article on many lists of best-written psychological theory reviews, and I fully agree. The science has come a long way since 1995, but this remains one of the best introductions to the psychology of personal narrative.
The Folk Psychology of Souls by Jesse Bering. "When it comes to death, human cognition apparently is not well equipped to update the list of players in our complex social rosters by accommodating the recent nonexistence of any one of them." It's a little outside my main research area, but I built an entire special-topics class around this one article because it's one of the truest I've ever read.

As long as I’ve been on Tumblr I have seen posts talking about how undervalued women are in fandom, and I’ve nodded along, reblogged and moved on with my life. Occasionally I’ve tried to figure out how one would solve this problem at least in their own fandom experiences, and I’ve never had an answer, but today I am here to tell you: the answer is Mei.
I’m 100% joking, but also so serious. Mei is the most undervalued character in lmk and she deserves so much more love. She is the only girl in the main cast (I’m counting red son as a boy because that’s what he is in cannon) and she has so many cool things about her. She’s literally descended from dragons, she has a complex relationship with her parents, trouble sharing her feelings and asking for help, and she HOSTED LITERAL WORLD ENDING FLAMES, but when you look at her followers on tumblr you’d think she doesn’t do much.
Tumblr media
(Pigsy did not make it on this graph because he doesn’t have his followers listed on his tag page)
Before I carry on with all this data analysis I want to say that I’m not shaming any specific people for not being particularly interested in Mei. The important thing when it comes to biases isn’t one specific case it’s trends, so it’s not about whether you like Mei, it's about whether you have a tendency to think guy characters are more interesting to talk about them more.
Anyways, when you look at Ao3 tags you may think that Mei has just as many fics about her as a lot of the main cast (minus the main character and the gay monkeys of course), but when you filter for fics tagged with Mei in them you’ll find a frustrating amount that have her as a supporting character or worse mentioned that one time. The thing about tagging characters is you’re not saying the fic is about them you’re saying the fic has them as part of the plot, and so most of her popularity comes from being an amazing best friend, matchmaker and a party animal instead of any of her internal conflicts.
Tumblr media
To find fics that were actually about Mei (to some degree) I filtered for the tags Mei-centric and Mei Needs a Hug,and the results were much different. Mei’s number of fics is around how many Tang has. She has 10 more Needs a Hug fics than him, and he has 10 more -centric fics than her. The only character she’s beating out is Pigsy whose -centric tag doesn’t even have it’s own page yet.
Tumblr media
Probably the most popular aspect of fandom (for better or worse) is shipping, and there’s a surprising lack of shippable characters in lmk. With the brotherhood and older demons there’s some variation, but for the stoplight trio they really only have each other (at least from what I’ve seen), and when you look at the popularity (on Ao3) of the different ships the results are… decisive. The most popular ship in the trio is MK/Red Son and the runner up Mei/Red Son has only 1/5 of the fics. I personally only really like MK/Red SOn and the whole trio shipped together (poly ships aren’t as popular), but I’m still surprised that Mei/Red Son, which is the one most supported by cannon in my opinion, is so much less popular.
Unlike the others this isn’t really me saying Mei absolutely should be shipped more, but shipping is pretty much always correlated to how popular a character is in fandom so I thought it was worth mentioning.
Tumblr media
I don’t really know what to say at the end of this. I’m not much of a analyzer or a headcanoner. I don’t know how to delta every interesting thing I love about her. Please just take a second to appreciate Mei and all that she’s been through. Maybe partake in Mei thursday every once and awhile or just talk about her more. I don’t know, I just wanted to make a bunch of graphs about it. (Thank you @mythicalmagical-monkeyman for inspiring this <3)
Also this started as a fic rec list (that’s why Ao3 comes up so much), so if you have any Mei fics you like pls send em on over.

Azi’s Zim is Disabled Essay
So there are a lot of different interpretations about Zim being defective that exist. There are a lot of interpretations about what it means to be defective in the first place. I would like to propose that being defective, not only relates to neurodivergence and “non-desirable” behavior (anything that goes against the Irken regime) but also certain physical disabilities, in specific chronic illnesses.
I would like to draw a line here because I firmly believe that the Irken Empire would not give a shit about limb differences. They are technologically advanced (even if their technology is mostly stolen from other species) so, to them, it would be entirely cosmetic and one could simply get cybernetics. However, a problem with the body’s systems cannot be as easily addressed. Thus, Irkens with conditions, like these would be considered defective. Due to their condition, they cannot contribute in the same way as others if they can contribute at all. They would be considered a liability. That’s right, the space fascists are probably also eugenicists (shocking no one). I mean seriously, that’s pretty easy to see. They literally genetically engineer their own people to near perfection.
The only way for a genetic issue like this to happen with the way smeets are made would be because of some kind of cloning error. Anyone reading this probably knows that a popular headcanon about Zim is that he is the product of some kind of cloning error. This is a headcanon that I agree with. So, if Zim is the product of a cloning error what saying that he doesn’t have some kind of invisible disability like a chronic illness.
Putting the lore side, when you look at the Irken Empire, as a satirical representation of America, its greed, its disregard for citizens, and its imperialism, having Zim be disabled makes thematic sense. Zim is actively disregarded by and pushed out of Irken society, many people tend to interpret this as Zim being autistic or another neurodivergent parallel, which I agree with. However, why not take this a step further, why not make a Zim physically disabled?
The closest thing within fandom spaces that I’ve seen to interpreting Zim as disabled, is making Zim autistic or deaf/hard of hearing. However, when this is written it usually has little to no bearing on the plot of whatever is being written. It is almost always a superficial detail of some kind like the occasional mention of Zim having a hard time hearing something, not understanding subtext, or wearing a hearing aid.
I don’t think this is a problem within the Invader Zim fandom; I am well aware that there is just not much fic about disabled characters in which they are actively discussed as being disabled or their disability is important to the plot in some way. I am not blaming anyone for this issue, it’s just the fact that not many people write disabled characters. I think this problem mostly comes from the fact that people are scared of messing it up. Quick message: if you think that you have a good writing idea that involves a disabled character, make sure you do your research, but fucking write it! Even if they aren’t anywhere close to implied to being disabled in canon. What is the point of fanfiction if not to give fans the space to interpret the character however they please?
Apologies for the tangent but it was important. I’m going to shift the topic a bit, onto examining a symptom of chronic illness that I see in Zim within the canon. Specifically, I think that it explains one of the main inconsistencies in Zim’s character.
Many people including myself have noticed the fact that Zim is simultaneously very smart, but also very incompetent at times. This seems to be a contradiction because someone as smart as he is shown to be, logically, shouldn’t be making some of the mistakes that he does within the canon. And I have a plausible solution to this: brain fog. Brain fog is an overarching name for a collection of symptoms that includes an inability to focus and concentrate, confusion, unusually inhibited logic skills, feeling disoriented, as well as trouble remembering and comprehending information. If Zim was intermittently experiencing these symptoms, the inconsistency of him being simultaneously a genius and on many occasions almost completely incompetent would be explained. Brain fog is a symptom of a lot of different things, personally, I interpret it as chronic pain and immunodeficiency for my Zim headcanons and my AU.
Being able to deep dive into Fem Zim’s experience with her disability as she continues her story is important to me. Describing her chronic pain is important to me. Not having a fix for her condition is important to me. Having a character that is not just disabled, but who talks about their disability, has prose dedicated to their symptoms, and has it as an important part of their character building and development is something that I do not see. Let alone anyone with a similar condition to me. Zim is that character for me, whether it’s me going into specifics about Fem Zim’s symptoms within my own AU, or me as a kid, first getting into Invader Zim, and seeing so much of myself in Zim as a character.
You can interpret Zim however you want, I’m not telling you what to do. But I would like to point out that this is an entirely underutilized interpretation that in a fandom that has existed for over 20 years know I do not know of any other genuine instance of.
My only explanation for that is that y'all are cowards. /j

What makes a compelling rivalry? Some instances have been able to stand the test of time whereas others fade into obscurity. The reason is because it is not only making great heroes and villains–it is also about making them great for each other. This essay will seek to prove that Hiccup and Viggo were not great adversaries. In contrast, Dagur was well-suited for opposing them both.
