Important Notes in Chart Rectification

With Pedro Pascal

WHOLE SIGN VERSUS PLACIDUS: There are some basic ideas I would like to address about chart layout and rectification. Let’s begin with the ascendant. Your time of birth tells you which sign was coming over the horizon at your moment of birth. That sign is your ascendant. The ascendant dictates which sign is in your first house, always. In Placidus, the degree of your ascendant is the beginning of your first house, the houses and signs do not share the exact same space. In whole sign, the beginning of the first house is set to the beginning of the sign your ascendant occupies and the ascendant is labeled AC at its degree within that sign. The sign takes up the whole house, thus the name, so in the whole sign system the house and the sign share the same space. The ascendant is crucial to your natal chart layout because it tells you where all of your placements fall within the chart, and since the houses each represent different aspects or areas of your life it tells you where in your life the placements play out. I’ll show you Pedro Pascal’s Chart. (The birth time will move so take note of the changes.)

These two chart have the same birth time but because the houses are calculated differently you can see how the moon moves from the first house in Placidus to the second house in Whole Sign.

THE MOON: This is not the only important piece of information your birth time gives you. The Moon is the fastest moving object in the natal chart, it changes signs every 2.5 days. This means that if you do not have your correct birth time you will not know the degree of the moon, and if it’s one of the days it changes signs you will not know which of the two signs it occupies. This is crucial information. The moon is your emotional body. It tells how you process your emotions and how you find comfort. Aspects to the moon can tell you a lot about a person and, because all aspects contain an orb of efficacy, the moon in the course of the 24 hours of the day you were born will move in and out of aspect orbs with your other placements. If it changes sign entirely this will also affect how any aspects are expressed. The harmony or disharmony of the element and modality of the aspect will be completely different in a different sign even if the placement is only a degree or two away.

See how Pedro’s Moon moves from Sagittarius to Capricorn? It also moves into an opposition with Saturn, note the red line connecting the two in the first chart with the 10 pm birth time. At 12am Saturn and the Moon have no relation to each other. The Moon is also moving away from Neptune. An out of sign, out of house conjunction is very different from and in sign, in house conjunction and the farther away they move from one another the weaker the connection. If you have seen any of my other celebrity chart analysis you will also know that numerology plays strongly into the assessment of the chart and thus the exact degree of both the moon and the ascendant are needed for proper analysis.

THE MC: Something I have seen many people overlook when talking about guessing a celebrity birth time is the MC. They talk about the AC and how the person seems but the AC is more what you see when you know someone personally and have moved past initial impressions. Those initial impressions are the MC. The MC is how people seem to strangers and, in the new digital age, their online persona. I imagine in pre-computer ages this would have been how someone was known publicly to people that they hadn’t met or hadn’t interacted with much. Their public reputation. This makes sense when you think that the MC is the most visible point to everyone and the sign coming over the horizon is there only briefly for those who view it at the time. It’s what everyone sees versus what you see. So when looking at a celebrity chart you need to consider how they are viewed by the public. Specifically, the pervasive and enduring opinions about them that seem to simply exist regardless of evidence to the contrary. That is because the MC is not just how the public views someone but how they WANT to view them. It is very hard to shake the image of the MC and will always be met with anger and outrage. Any time you see a celebrity or online personality facing backlash for a lifestyle choice the public disagrees with it is likely because they are acting against their MC and this creates an uncomfortable friction with the image that their fans have of them in their minds.

Pedro has said he’s either a Gemini AC or a Cancer AC. This means He’s either a Taurus, Aries, or Pisces MC. These are the important things to look at for those of us who do not know him personally and I will explore them in an upcoming post.

COMPARE THE HEMISPHERES: When looking at a birth chart without a birth time, what I like to do is make up a few charts with likely AC/MC placements and see how the planets fall and what aspects it makes or eliminates. Sometimes simply looking at a mock up chart can rule it out as it communicates characteristics of the native that they do not possess, but a different birth time will read a lot more like them. For instance in the first examples of his chart with Capricorn or Sagittarius risings the planets are in the bottom half of the chart, meaning they are private and focused on his self development or personal life. With a Gemini or Cancer ascendant the planets are above the horizon meaning his life is more public and geared towards his work and interpersonal relationships. It is not uncommon for a public figure, like an actor, to have most of their planets above the horizon like this since that’s the main area of their lives that they put their time and energy into. It also speaks to being seen, quite literally.

An astrology natal chart is simply a map revealing the placements of planets during their orbit around the Sun at the time of an individuals birth.

Pedro Pascal’s birth date and birth location is publically known (1975 April 2 in Santiago, Chile), however his exact birth time is unknown. This will cause major inaccuracies in his birth chart readings in his ascendant and all of the houses the planets fall in.

hey y’all! in this series we’ll be covering major soft/positive aspects (conjunctions, sextiles, and trines) to pedro’s uranus. he doesn’t have any minor soft aspects to his uranus, but the rest of the major and minor aspects to the rest of his planets and asteroids in his chart will be covered in an upcoming series! i also want to note that when it comes to these aspects, they have to be examined through the lens of the entire chart, as they’re influenced by a myriad of factors within it.

uranus trine black moon lilith (within 5.1°)

in this aspect, the planetary bodies are harmonious and their energies are naturally and positively expressed. uranus signifies sudden and unexpected events. it’s the co-ruler of aquarius in modern astrology, and represents innovation, eccentricity, rebellion, and unpredictability. it’s also a generational planet, and it stays in the same sign for 7 years, meaning everyone born in that time frame will share the same placement. BML represents our rage and our triggers. it shows where we’re inclined to challenge what’s deemed “socially acceptable,” and where we push boundaries just to see how far we can go. it’s also indicative of how we seek liberation through our sexuality. similar to chiron or pluto, BML indicates where we find power in our wounds, and the ways in which we may seek out destruction and sabotage ourselves.

with uranus trine BML, there’s an innate confidence in one’s individuality. these natives prioritize their independence, and don’t enjoy being in situations where their sense of freedom is being impeded upon. they’re inclined to ask questions, push against boundaries, and resist the system and the “rules” placed before them. they can feel inclined to rebel in the face of authority, and more often than not would rather be the ones calling the shots and leading the herd.

neptune square black moon lilith (within 5.4°)

in this aspect, the planetary bodies are in conflict with one another. neptune is the co-ruler of pisces in modern astrology, and can be best identified by its elusive energy. it represents spirituality and the realms beyond us, dreams, the arts, and creativity. it is also indicative of illusions, deception, addiction, and mysticism. it’s also a generational planet, and stays in the same sign for about 14 years, therefore everyone born within that time frame will share the same placement. BML represents our rage and our triggers. it shows where we’re inclined to challenge what’s deemed “socially acceptable,” and where we push boundaries just to see how far we can go. it’s also indicative of how we seek liberation through our sexuality. similar to chiron or pluto, BML indicates where we find power in our wounds, and the ways in which we may seek out destruction and sabotage ourselves.

jupiter opposite pluto (4°09’)

in this aspect, there is a polarity between the planetary bodies and they are at odds with one another. jupiter is the traditional ruler of pisces and sagittarius, and is representative of wisdom, expansion, philosophy and theology. it’s also indicative of optimism and good luck, hence why traditional astrologers refer to it as the “great benefic.” pluto is considered the co-ruler of scorpio in modern astrology, and is representative of sexuality, the taboo, fears, death, control/domination, destruction and rebirth. it’s also indicative of where the native will struggle the most with themes of power and control in their lives. pluto is also a generational planet, and stays in the same sign for 12-32 years, therefore people born within that time frame will all share the same placement.

with jupiter opposite pluto, these natives may have a hunger for success, knowledge, and resources that can be insatiable at times. they’re extremely ambitious, and have the drive to achieve what it is that they want out of life, and may even be skilled enough at networking to climb their way to the top. this can grant someone with a great amount of power, but should be used wisely as they may overindulge in their desire for control and aggrandize their feelings of authority. they’re extremely motivated, and while they have the capacity to attain their goals, they may feel like their achievements are never enough. regardless, they tend to be materially successful, and are typically acknowledged for their talents in their field of choice.

this can also manifest as a tendency to overwork, or to over promise and fail to deliver on what it is they planned to do. they may struggle with feeling as though they aren’t doing enough or feeling like they don’t have enough, and fail to recognize their accomplishments and the amount of effort it took to get them to where they are. similar to the moon square pluto aspect pedro also has, these natives can struggle with being perpetually “on guard” and getting in their own way. they may convince themselves that there’s a “fight to be fought” at all times and place unnecessary obstacles in their own path, usually as a result of the difficulties they’ve faced in life, primarily in youth. while they may encounter people who are envious of their success, they should be wary of convincing themselves that everyone around them has it out for them.

these individuals may struggle with power dynamics in their careers and relationships, and therefore find themselves called to embrace change and transformation within their lives. like with most pluto aspects, rebirth is a constant, recurring theme. in the context of jupiter opposite pluto, these periods of metamorphosis allow them to recognize their need for power and control can be a hindrance at times, and lead them to expansion and growth on a spiritual, subconscious level. they may eventually find that they enjoy exploring the darker, “yang” side of themselves that rests within their subconscious, and may even desire to explore this side of others, especially in their relationships.

ultimately, these natives should practice compromising and meeting others halfway. they should be more mindful of their cravings for abundance, as it affects not only their careers but their relationships with others as well. it would benefit them greatly to acknowledge the wins that they already have before jumping into setting new goals and accomplishing even more.

these natives can be drawn towards humanitarian work and organizations that advocate for marginalized groups, as they have an innate hospitality that drives the way that they navigate through the world. this is a characteristic that can also be seen in the sun trine neptune placement that pedro also has, and a trait that he himself has alluded to having in his Wired 2023 interview: “my entire heart is set on, you know, the marginalized underdog. it’s not a choice. like, how dare anyone not support the people that are deserving of support, and are deserving of protection and need more of it than you do. do you know what i mean?” this is also an aspect that’s indicative of excelling in the arts, as these individuals are visionaries, and make amazing painters, musicians, and performers. they may also find that they’re divinely protected, or feel that they have “guardian angels” or spirit guides/ancestors that watch over them.

these individuals would benefit from having harmonious, practical placements in their charts, as these aspects combined would influence them to actively make their dreams a reality. with the trine, they’re innately skilled enough to bring much needed change to the world around them, and to positively impact and uplift those that need it most. they may find fulfillment through not only broadening their understanding of their own existence as a spiritual being, but enjoy enlightening others on their journeys as well.

in this aspect, there is a polarity between the planetary bodies and they are at odds with one another. uranus signifies sudden and unexpected events. it’s the co-ruler of aquarius in modern astrology, and represents innovation, eccentricity, rebellion, and unpredictability. it’s also a generational planet, and it stays in the same sign for 7 years, meaning everyone born in that time frame will share the same placement. chiron is notably referred to as the “wounded healer.” it is representative of the strength we find through our pain and vulnerabilities, and our ability to empathize and pass on wisdom through our suffering.

– discussions surrounding plutonian themes can be heavy so content warning for violence, (childhood) trauma, death, and abuse. nothing detailed or explicit, just an advisory for those who want to avoid these topics. we do discuss parental loss at length in this post, so if that’s a subject anyone would like to avoid feel free to skip this one. ♡

in this aspect, the planetary bodies are in conflict with one another. the moon represents our subconscious feelings, our feminine (light/yin) sides, how we show up emotionally, how we crave nurturement, as well as our home and familial dynamics. it’s also indicative of our mother/maternal figures, our relationship to them, and how we perceive them to love and nurture us. pluto is considered the co-ruler of scorpio in modern astrology, and is representative of sexuality, the taboo, fears, death, control/domination, destruction and rebirth. pluto is also a generational planet, and stays in the same sign for 12-32 years, therefore people born within that time frame will all share the same placement.

this aspect indicates a struggle within the emotional subconscious. these natives tend to be private people, and constantly operate on offense. they’ve experienced turmoil in their lives, and therefore tend to assume all good things must come with a “catch”. there’s an innate fear of being controlled or overpowered by others, and they may isolate themselves for long periods of time as a means to maintain a sense of control. they may also self-isolate to gain a better understanding of themselves. their inner world is tumultuous, but they don’t typically show this side of themselves.

he discusses what the loss of his mother entailed for him emotionally in the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso podcast: “‘it was summer in Chile as well. so it was very beautiful out, and a very beautiful day, and none of that seemed to coincide very well with what was happening. and so i remember it being an unbelievable thing to get through, to be honest with you.’ what do you mean by unbelievable? ‘i just love her so much, and she’s just kind of the love of my life in a way. the world doesn’t stop, and the sun doesn’t stop shining. [emotionally] it was hard for me to register, just to comprehend that you could be in a car going to a cremation service and see family playing in the yard, experiencing something so drastically different, right in front of you.’ that other people could be experiencing joy. ‘not even mildly, you know, like a beautiful summer day, and I remember that more than anything - everything stopped, and I was very resentful that nothing stopped.’”

apart from the maternal side of this aspect, moon square pluto can also manifest as disruption within their immediate family or in the home, as well as extreme separation anxiety, alongside fears of losing the parent(s) or home. this is also another part of this aspect we can see the manifestation of with pedro, not only in his parents escaping Chile when he was a child, but as well as the fear he had in relation to his parents’ safety, specifically his mother’s. this is something he also mentions in the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso podcast: “‘[there’s a] Costa-Gavras movie called Missing with Sissy Spacek and Jack Lemmon, which deals with the military dictatorship in Chile at the time. it’s a true story where an American journalist went missing and was found dead. i remember watching this at home on cable, and there was a moment where Sissy Spacek‘s character - she doesn’t make it home before curfew, and she just kind of gets trapped in the city. and, again, sort of a beautiful, small framed woman that reminded me so much of my mother, i sort of projected these kind of images of my mother into these characters’ circumstances.

“‘and i just remembered completely falling apart when she was in danger, when she was so afraid, and imagining that that could’ve happened to my mother. i remember having a little bit of a breakdown,’ it’s like in the house, no one in the family talked about it, ‘no,’ and it took a film from Hollywood to kind of give language to something no one was giving language to. ‘yeah, and you know, i could sit through anything at the time and i remember, like, just starting to cry and being like ‘i can’t - i can’t watch this.’ and i was like, gosh, i don’t know, i must’ve been like eight [years old].’”

in youth, these natives may have felt like their emotions were bigger than them. this, alongside the turmoil within their households or families, could’ve made them hypersensitive or anxious. their childhoods tend to be a source of wounding, resulting in their deep-rooted insecurities and fears. their need for control comes from a place of feeling as though they never had it, and therefore, they feel they need it as a means to feel safe and secure at all times. throughout their lives they will encounter dramatic changes and growth that will inevitably bring them closer to their families. over time, they may end up feeling like their family members are the only ones that truly understand them and accept them for who they are.

i mentioned before how i’m a (virgo) moon in the 8H girly myself, and i find the similarities between the moon in the 8H, moon in scorpio, and moon square pluto to be so interesting. my mom was actually a scorpio moon and struggled with an illness since she was born, which in turn made my childhood pretty turbulent, and she actually ended up passing away when i was a teenager. i also have the “emotional hermit” trait as well. i tend to self-isolate a lot and getting me to be vulnerable is the equivalent of pulling teeth:). it should go without mentioning that these placements aren’t going to manifest the same for everyone, though. you could have these placements and have the perfect relationship with your mom or a great childhood. every part of your natal chart has varying degrees of influence, so the impact will be different for everyone!

they have the capacity to become a source of guidance for others, and raise the bar by setting a good example through their actions. they’re sensitive to the feelings and wellbeing of others, and therefore can become great advocates for the most vulnerable among us. although they are sacrificing, they also need to recognize the importance of putting themselves first at times, so that their success can enable them to help others. pedro references his desire to be an advocate in his Wired 2023 interview: “my entire heart is set on, you know, the marginalized underdog. it’s not a choice. like, how dare anyone not support the people that are deserving of support, and are deserving of protection and need more of it than you do. do you know what i mean?”

they must also put in the physical, real-world effort to attain their goals, as they’re inclined to idealize the internal world they live in over the external. they must be honest with themselves to understand the true motivation behind their actions and desires, otherwise they can become susceptible to their own delusion. while these natives have to put in conscious effort to set boundaries, those with this aspect tend to not be as susceptible to manipulation as those with hard aspects to neptune, or hard sun to moon aspects (like sun square moon, an aspect pedro also has in his chart). they should ask many questions about themselves and those around them, as this disillusionment will grant them clarity, help them evolve spiritually, and allow their hearts and minds to work together in service for others.
