Went back to office for overtime work and mum asked to buy back dessert from Nine Fresh (九鲜). They are having a Mango Passion Ai-Yu Jelly Special promotion from 16th October to 30th 2023, so I bought a cup each of the two mango flavoured jellies.

While both the desserts shared the same mango passion ai-yu base, the toppings are different for either one, saved for the taro balls. I went for the Mango Passion Ai-Yu A (草莓薏仁爆珠芒果百香爱玉) which comes with barley popping jelly, strawberry pearl jelly, black sugar dice jelly and taro balls. Each individual barley grain is encased in a jelly shell which pops when you bite into it, giving a surprising element when you least expected it.

Mum took the Mango Passion Ai-Yu B (葡萄凤梨珍珠芒果百香爱玉) with these toppings of grape pearl jelly, pineapple kantan, black pearls and taro balls. Both desserts offered a tangy, sweet and refreshing comfort to beat the humidity and brighten up the day with its vibrant medley of colours and myriad of flavours.

Not only Bakesale Barley has returned but my HC about them as friends is canonnnnn :D

As much as I HC them as friends, there’s also a cooking club. Some of the members are Piper, 8-Bit (for breaks and peace) Lou, Nani ( but she’s not good at cooking tho but she does help fix stuff like ovens lol) there’s prob more but I think I can’t list them at the top of my head rn.

Ready for a fight between bots? Here we have The Battle Bot arena! Hosted by the star of the season GraPE!

Our host, GraPE, is the star of the season and featured in the brawl pass, alongside his skin: "King of the Ring"

The other brawler released during the season is Clink, known as "The Walking Prison". However, here in the arena, he's known as "Shark Tank"!

Here are the competitors: The "Cursed Dragon" Barley, with blazing fire, The "Black Scorpion" Injurr, with his deadly stingers, The "Reap-Pairman" Lou, with tools that help fix but also destroy, The "Razor Tutu" R-T, dancing then attacking with saws attached to his head and body.

The Power League skin from the season is another competitor: The "Sandbox Ladybird" Pearl ready to fight and maybe make cookies to make up for the battle afterward. (spray and profile picture would be the other PL rewards)

I was busy after work yesterday until 8pm, doing various critter things - feeding Ed, then the cats, stapled carpet to new cat shelf, then went to feed the crabs and discovered moths in the tank. Cleaned the tank out, fed crabs, fed me, fed the dogs... then made new gel food for Ed, and a dry powder mix to add baby food to for a sick rat.

I meant for today to be lighter, but I failed at that. 🤦 Arte & I went to Sprouts, and I got fresh greens for Ed & some new snacks for the rodents. Came home & fed Ed, then made a batch of Chop for the rodents with the extra greens + some other things!

I swear, I'm actually not doing anything after work tomorrow. 😂

Tasty Chicken Soup

6 servings

This homemade chicken soup not only tastes great but makes your home smell great too! It is also full of nourishing ingredients like chicken and vegetables but also has ingredients like turmeric that may reduce any inflammation you might be experiencing.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon canola oil (or any vegetable oil)

6 teaspoons of garlic cloves, minced

1 medium yellow onion, diced

12 baby carrots, sliced

2 celery ribs, chopped

1 tablespoon ginger, chopped

1 teaspoon ground turmeric

6-7 cups chicken broth

1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs

1 teaspoon chopped rosemary

1 teaspoon thyme leaves

½ teaspoon salt

Black pepper, freshly ground

½ cup pearl barley

Directions:

Place oil in a large pot that has been heated over medium-high heat. Then add the garlic, onion, carrots, and celery and cook for a few minutes.

Next add the ginger and turmeric. Cook for half a minute to let the spices mix in and blend.

Add in the chicken broth, chicken thighs, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper.

Cook over high heat until the soup mixture boils then add in the pearl barley.

Lower the heat to let the soup simmer for about 20 to 25 minutes to allow the chicken to cook and the ingredients to blend and cook.

When the chicken is cooked remove from the pot and dice the chicken on a cutting board. Add the chicken back to the pot and serve with crackers. If needed feel free to add more chicken broth.

Note:

Canola oil is used as it has a high smoke point.

Jars of minced garlic are available in the produce section of well-stocked grocery stores if you don’t feel like cutting up the garlic.

Jars of chopped ginger are also available.

Chicken thighs are used instead of chicken breasts as they are juicy and tasty.

Pearl barley is available in the rice and dried bean section in well-stocked grocery stores.

Use fresh herbs if they are available and affordable. Otherwise, use the spices in the baking section. Of course, if you have the spices already use them.

Sałata ze szparagami, fasolką szparagową, młodymi ziemniakami, pęczakiem, miodowym winegretem i orzechami włoskimi

Ostatni przepis zamieściłam na blogu w sierpniu. To niemal rok temu... Samej trudno mi uwierzyć, że kochając gotowanie, fotografowanie jedzenia, czytanie i pisanie o nim na tyle czasu mogłam z tego zrezygnować?

Cóż, to był jeden z najtrudniejszych okresów w moim życiu. Bezsprzecznie czołówka. Nie będę o tym pisała, bo po co? Każdy ma zawsze własną wersję wydarzeń i nikogo nie obchodzi interpretacja drugiej strony. Dość, że najpierw stopniowo traciłam siły na kulinaria, zniechęciłam się do wyszukiwania, wymyślania i przygotowywania potraw - w czym skutecznie pomagała mi jedynaczka, mówiąc na przykład: Nie będę jadła tego g... - a ostatecznie odrzuciło mnie z niesmakiem od bloga, który przez lata dawał mi autentyczną radość, wytchnienie i spełnienie.

Powoli odbudowują się we mnie siły i - przełamując niechęć do tego miejsca - wracam do pisania. Znowu chce mi się postać w kuchni nawet, gdy córka ledwie omiata zblazowanym wzrokiem to, co upichcę. Jem sama. I odnajduję w tym prostą radość.

Na pierwszy rzut proponuję sałatę ze szparagami, fasolką szparagową, młodymi ziemniakami, pęczakiem, koprem, miodowo-koprowym winegretem i orzechami włoskimi. Zwykła, sycąca, obfitująca w sezonowe warzywa. Już sama kasza ze słodkawym winegretem, koprem i orzechami jest warta spróbowania, a w połączeniu z kilkoma innymi smakami i teksturami naprawdę raduje. To radość nieśmiała, poobijana, próbująca sobie przypomnieć, że jedzenie jest przyjemne i twórcze. Radość o czystym sumieniu.

Składniki:

pęczek zielonych szparagów 150 g żółtej fasolki szparagowej 6-8 młodych ziemniaków 100 g grubego pęczaku 1/2 szklanki orzechów laskowych sól i czarny pieprz do smaku

Miodowo-koprowy winegret łyżeczka musztardy Dijon łyżeczka miodu 3 łyżki soku z cytryny 10-12 łyżek oliwy z oliwek e.v. 2 łyżki siekanego kopru sól do smaku

Wykonanie:

Zagotować wodę w niedużym garnku, osolić i wsypać kaszę. Gotować zgodnie z instrukcją na opakowaniu, ok. 15 minut. Odcedzić.

W innym garnku, w osolonej wodzie ugotować umyte wcześniej, nieobrane ziemniaki. W zależności od wielkości bulw gotować 10-16 minut. Odcedzić, poczekać aż nieco wystygną i pokroić w grube talarki lub półtalarki.

Szparagi i fasolkę opłukać i osuszyć na sicie. Szparagi brać obieraczką do warzyw, odciąć końcówki (wyrzucić), pokroić na kawałki, odkładając na bok główki. Fasolce przyciąć z obu stron ogonki i pokroić na podobnej długości kawałki (u mnie na trzy części).

Do średniej wielkości garnka wlać wodę na dwa palce, wstawić sitko do gotowania na parze, a gdy woda zawrze wrzucić kawałki szparagów i fasolki. Przykryć pokrywką i gotować ok. 2-3 minuty. Pod koniec wrzucić szparagowe główki. Wyjąć na sitku i odstawić.

Koper opłukać, otrzepać i posiekać. W małej sosjerce lub mleczniku połączyć miód, musztardę, sok z cytryny, a następnie wlewać oliwę z oliwek i energicznie wymieszać do powstania lekkiej emulsji. Dodać szczyptę soli, koper i wymieszać. Jeśli sos jest zbyt gęsty, wlać więcej oliwy.

Na suchej patelni uprażyć grubo pokrojone orzechy.

Na półmisek wyłożyć po kolei: kaszę, ziemniaki, szparagi i fasolkę. Obficie polać winegretem, oprószyć grubo mielonym pieprzem i obsypać orzechami.

Podawać.

I jeszcze coś. Niby oczywistość, ale okazuje się, że niekoniecznie i nie dla wszystkich. Pamiętajcie, że każdy człowiek, którego spotykacie w życiu - po przeciwnej stronie szyby w sklepie, biurka w pracy, monitora laptopa lub ekranu komórki, granicy państwa, czy Waszych poglądów - czuje. Bądźcie dla niego tak zwyczajnie dobrzy, szczerzy i delikatni, bo to, co powiecie, czy zrobicie może mu zdemolować kawałek życia...

Kłamcy mówcie prawdę, manipulanta rozbrójcie prostolinijnością, agresora mocno przytulcie i przytrzymajcie zapalczywe ręce. Patrzcie w oczy tym, którzy zrobią wiele, aby nie spotkać się z Wami twarzą w twarz. Ufajcie nawet wtedy, gdy zostaniecie wykorzystani i wydrwieni. Nie dajcie wmówić sobie, że “to wasza wina”. Mimo wszystko wybaczajcie.

Nie zmienicie tym losów świata, po ludzku przegracie, ale w ostatecznym rozrachunku nie to się liczy...
