I hold this humungous hole of insecurity within me, specifically abt my importance in people’s lives and I think it’s one of the reasons I love your ffs & ocs. Whether it’s failsafe, hlwwf, or perpetual datejust, the fictional realm you’ve created where ur ocs also have that lack of security but have still found themselves someone who will love them deeply and prove daily how important they are is one of the reasons I don’t let myself wallow in self deprecation. Bc I hope one day I’m also able to find love (platonic or romantic) that’s able to make me appreciate myself whole again🫶
Thank u for sharing ur stories and whether you mean to or not, creating a dialogue within oneself about who they want to be as a person.
And one last thing to applaud you on. does anyone remember who wrote the Angel prequel comic? That was far more competent in setting up Angel's abuse than ep4
Valentino in that comic abused Angel in the privacy of their limo, not right out in the open where Charlier or anyone could notice
he was controlling: he demanded Angel stay in the studio
he punished him for stepping out of line and he called him demeaning names (gee, who does that remind me of?)
he was actually threatening (PDJ did a fandub of the comic; one of his first that blew up, and his hissing bug voice for Valentino just hits the mark so much better than whatever the heck the show is going for with him)
show Valentino has about 3 braincells and is whiny up until the point where the show decides it wants to Talk About Abuse, then it lets him be threatening for the length of a musical number
not to mention that the comic handled Angel's persona to mask his pain with far more subtlety. when Charlie hands him the money as a thank you (and as a result he won't have to keep working the rest of the night on the street corner), he's genuinely touched but tries to cover it up and it's a clear lie when he says he doesn't need help
then when he's ruminating on redemption in his apartment with Fat Nuggets, there's genuine weight to it because the reader has just seen what a typical 'day in the life' for him is.
it did it all without showing anything graphic and the tone, while having moments of levity (Angel making fun of Vaggie's name, because of course) was consistent throughout. it didn't ping pong back and forth between incredibly graphic, heavy material and goofy musical numbers
In case anyone wants to see what a competently told story looks like.

[PDJ anon] that's a fair read tbh! I think a lot of us wanted to think the show was doing more with Stolas than it has but it's just gotten worse n worse. he could have been an excellent villain or antagonist, or an interesting character study of a deeply flawed noble struggling to be better than the last generation & right now he's neither
and you're totally right - Stolas has been like three different characters at this point, maybe even five if you count the instas
1 pilot Stolas - fairly flat joke character but does actually feel like a demon lord. worst he does is call Blitzo and get, uh, overenthusiastic on the phone
2 murder family Stolas - retains the demon lord demeanour and speech patterns, escalates to trapping Blitzo in a deal for sex. stone cold predator out to get laid
3 rest of S1 Stolas - not a great father tbh but wants to be one. complicated home life. has some dimension outside of just wanting sex but still objectifies and demeans Blitzo. deeply flawed but interesting and not entirely let off the hook by the story
4 S2 Stolas - never did anything wrong in his life. If someone thinks he wronged them, no he didn't. Blitzo led him on, apparently; it's not his fault he was duped into coercing a lower class demon into sex they couldn't refuse! sad wet cat
insta Stolas - the closest to a decent person Stolas has ever gotten. flirts with Blitzo but doesn't push it. actually knows the names of the rest of IMP and gives a darn about both them and Blitzo's interests. has movie nights and probably the occasional consensual casual hookup w/Blitzo. actually teaches his daughter magic once in a while
it's hard for anyone to know what they're supposed to think of Stolas at this point tbh. Idk if PDJ minds his lyrics being changed or his song being used to essentially promote stol/tz. he always thanks people for their support so I suspect he was just happy to have eyes on his music. I feel bad for him, though. idk if he still likes what HB has turned into but he deserved more than to have his name buried at the end of the credits. He wrote it! His song Liquid Gold for Lackadaisy had his name right front and centre in both the title and desc. Wouldn't have killed Viv to do the same. at least he's doing bigger n better things these days
(side note, good point that Blitzo could have easily been seducing Stolas to get out of his room alive. his confidence noticeably comes back when he figures he can take control of the situation; before that he's tense and even scared)
Thank you paranoid DJ for putting your talent and skills towards this project, you deserved full credit and unedited lyrics. I’ll check out liquid gold soon! Plus Ringleader was his best Helluva song by far, it was intense and it hit hard. But thankfully fizz doesn’t hate Blitzø that much, or their story would be very cut and dry.
I feel like one way this could be salvaged is if they took his substance abuse issues seriously. Those mood stabilisers that he abuses are supposed to suppress unhappiness, they might even give him a high. So when he’s on those at a normal dose, maybe he’s personality 3, he’s a super gentle kind loving father, he can get through the day, he doesn’t devolve. But when he is in withdrawal or ODs that’s when he starts obsessively “loving” blitz and needing to see him and nobody else, because he can get an adrenaline high from him, guilt free.
The best stolas is 100% the 3rd personality, with the occasionally delve into the 2nd one when nobody is around but the imps.
You just can’t write personalities 1 through 3, then get 4 out of nowhere, and pretend he was actually personality 5 all along. What the hell?
The Instagram guy sounds nice but that’s nothing like the canon and it’s too late to pretend it is. In fact I’m starting to think having an Instagram cast and a canon cast alongside each other was a bad decision. Especially if they are this inconsistent. Because now the only justification we have for his behaviour is inserting stuff from the non canon instagrams. Offscreen from our canon. Not to mention the silly insert of phone pictures and texts. For crying out loud have them discuss Ozzies in person not via text?? Text that nobody can read without pausing??
I cant name a single person in the fandom who was happy with that decision.
I think the most interesting route that could be taken was to have 2 be his dark side that introduces conflict and, his kindness towards Via just makes him a villain with a kind layer. It gives blitz a bigger reason to not just kill him, he’s conflicted that a family man can act like this badly. Even the most racist nastiest people are super gentle and kind to the people they select to be good enough for it. This also opens the door for more Octavia importance, she could be someone between the commoner and wealthy classes. Nothing about her screams royal at all.
Last point like—literally! The whole scene was horrible to watch and the fact they met one time as kids makes it plain disgusting to me. Like why is stolas sexualising this guy who has been a child in his mind this whole time? LooLoo land was the perfect opportunity for them to have met as adults and mention the book. It even works better in the timeline. Blitz leaves the theme park to become an assassin instead. And here’s how - steal that book. Idk it’s just weird. And having Paimon buy Blitzo like he’s nothing, just because stolas feels sad, is unforgivable to me.
“I recall how you like making an entrance 😏” you mean whe—-when he was practically a baby..? When he made a balloon horsey and was 7 at the oldest? That’s sexy to you?

ep 6 general commentary
this ep was kind of lowkey. not really sure how i feel about the team selection being entirely determined by rank - pretty sad that karen & momoka, amongst others, probably wont get to show their actual main abilities
the teams that performed were hero, shine a light, wa da da, & run run. ranking: run run > hero ≥ wa da da > shine a light. i don't really like the song choices (songs that already have choreo for a dance round, only one non-idol dance song, plus the singers/producers for that song helped arrange all of the vocal performances? makes me wonder if the final group will be getting a LAS song) but at least theyre all in japanese this time (for the vocal & rap groups at least)
run run: good performance but i have a few gripes. 1 - why was it worth more points? they said that the choreo was harder but the whole mission was for the girls to create choreo so... i dont actually expect that the trainees on these shows are doing all the arranging and writing and choreography themselves (much less on pd japan where virtually no one has a trainee background) but the whole set up of the mission kind of says the quiet part loud, you know? 2 - the distribution was a complete mess. loved joa as the center but the rest were basically backup dancers...for a choreo that theyre ostensibly creating themselves the difference in screentime between each person just doesnt make sense. and that was reflected in all of the ranks apart from yuuki & yurara i think. storyline: i found the koto/yuki storyline pretty meh. joa did actually do better than both of them so...? still, in another series this wouldve had a massive conflict edit & im glad pdj doesn't really do that. sad mitsuki & serina didn't get much screentime, i think mitsuki should've gone for antifragile actually, she needed to be on a team where the styling would've worked with her & allowed her to show more of a charming side on stage (friend that i watched LOVED her in cheer up, made me pause to figure out who the "gorgeous regina george lookalike" was.)
hero: ando yui is my daughter but i have to admit that she has a tendency towards shouting some notes. still, i feel like she has a ton of potential and im glad that she got to redeem herself after the audition. tsuzumi is basically in and she 100% knows it, so it's interesting to see how she's dealing with it. more than anyone else in the top it seems to really be impacting her, but she also seems to have a lot of close friends on the show who understand & are supporting her. to be honest, i usually don't like contestants like mayu but...idk. i see a lot in her but im not sure why. it seems like voters are starting to get serious so her rank has dropped a lot but i i'll miss her when she's eliminated. i hope there's some opportunity for her beyond the show.
wa da da: kind of sick that no one chose wa da da 😭 the stage was pretty messy in my opinion but mana did great, she's such a performer. personally ranka isnt one of my picks but i like her intensity a lot & she definitely deserved her rank. i don't think this is her moment exactly but i could see her being recruited somewhere after this. she would suit a kind of dramatic vibe. karen is interesting to me because while she doesn't dance well i found that she really fit the stage. i also love her attitude. there's no way she won't rise but im not sure that itll be enough. last and least,
shine a light: im a big jo1 fan but i knew this wasn't gonna go great from the outset. the energy of the original song is part of what makes it so good so the fact that they removed that.....i also think it's kind of notable that hina said that she didn't want it to be a ballad and was kind of steamrolled........anyways. we saw the performance. i've always said that i wanted hazuki to get more screentime & establish herself and this was her chance but...rip. from the second her voice cracked it was over for the whole team. every single person messed up except for hina. i know that this wasn't a super strong vocal group but it's so sad that they did the worse they've ever done on stage. i expect hina's rank to continue to rise, and hazuki in particular will fall (not because she was the worse but because she has the smallest fanbase & isnt insulated from mistakes like some of the top contestants). curious about what will happen with chiharu because honestly...no one really expected her to sing super well and she was gorgeous so. we'll see
member commentary
change is always possible but this is my stable top 4. rino & ran's teams weren't in this episode but it's a very good sign that rino still got screentime singing well & being a good leader. not thrilled that her rank dropped (14 → 17) and there are a lot of strong contenders in the early teens right now. in truth, i think some of them would be a much better fit for a spin off project (which have much higher success rates than the ones from korean produce) & rino would make more sense in top 11 but that's neither here nor there.
mana, as i said earlier did sooooo well in wadada, although im curious as to what she would've picked had she been given a real choice. im hoping her rank will rise - she didn't get a push in this ep but she was significantly more visible than a lot of her teammates so fingers crossed.
serina is just a good [potential] idol. i was surprised that she went for dance since her vocals are what i noticed first but she pulled off run run well. i wouldve picked shine a light or even antifragile for her though. unfortunately she got very little screentime & storyline but i'm sure run run will win so maybe that 20k will help maintain her spot.
standouts in this ep
not gonna break it down again but yeah. love the girlies love the vibes
other thoughts
call me crazy but im so so sure that these three will be recruited by lapone for a gg after the show. with the top 11 having skewing less cute im hoping that this becomes a reality bc these three fit eachother more than they fit momona/nano/ran/rin/etc. oda aruha (and maybe moro anon) would be here too but alas.
people i'd like to have seen in this ep
rin is riding a wave right now and she needs momentum to stay top 11. looking at the ranks now, kokona dropped 10 places (19 → 29) 🙃 rinon & ayano are fine, but i wanted to see them keep momentum as well. i like akiyama ema for some reason but to survive she desperately needs screentime and a good performance. I'm even more worried about tsukushi - her dropping from 18th to 31st after doing incredibly well is kind of insane. what i've said about tsukushi needing a storyline in the past still stands. i can already tell that her part in bijin will be great but with rinon & keiko im not sure what her screentime potential is.
ep 6 voting list
no surprises here, although im not sure what the voting has been reduced to? if it's only 5 i'd have to go with mana, rino, rin, serina, and then alternate kokona, yui, and mayu. i know that the "this person is safe so i wont vote for them" logic is flawed but i can't help it. good thing intl fans cant vote so this isn't a real concern! 🤪 /s
ep 6 semi-realistic top 11
only change is that i replaced kokona with joa. i have to say, im not thrilled about how many "givens" there are this season. it's not that i dislike them but it makes for a kind of boring top 11, at least until we get to 1 & 2 pick voting. rin was a nice surprise but i think the production has been pretty mask off about their picks. interestingly, i think it might bite them in the butt that momona & kokoro in particular don't actually get that much screentime. for people who are seeing them through the show for the first time (and also dont keep up with twitter discourse) probably feel that their ranks came out of nowhere. ran has gotten good screentime but she's definitely also buoyed by her original fanbase. miu, joa, & tsuzumi have good screentime & storylines so when joa goes up to top 11 i won't be surprised. rin had a good storyline so she makes sense. ayane doesn't get very much screentime but her voice does the brunt of the work. nano is a (capable) visual pick but she doesn't have a storyline. suzu has had a fanbase since the theme song but i expect her to fall a little honestly. we'll see. keiko is new to the top 11 this ep, i hope they reveal the actual ranks this time because that will influence my thoughts. keiko has great screentime and a litle bit of storyline so her rising makes sense. kokona is interesting to me because her rank is so stable based on not very much honestly. i don't dislike her but her lack of expressiveness on stage is probably something they'll try to build a storyline out of later.
i have a lot of confidence that rino will debut elsewhere after this but in the interest of creating a group i would actually like...

no but fr the fan comics and fanfics have done way more with the character dynamics for HB and for HH (it's not out yet, but I suspect I'm gonna be disappointed with how all three of Chaggie, Charlastor - whatever moments they get even though they aren't canon - and Huskerdust is written)
back when I was in fandom it was my goal to make a fancomic good enough for PDJ or someone else to want to dub it. I never got round to it cus I got busy with other stuff, then the steady decline of HB and whatever Twitter mess Viv was in that week put me off ever bothering
I still love those dubs though and I recommend them for anyone still attached to the fandom who doesn't want to be let down. There's especially some cute stuff for Radiodust & Huskerdust floating around. There are some good Stol/tz comics but most of them have to work around canon interactions & my dislike of Stolas has grown to the point I can't even with his show incarnation anymore, though the comics do tend to play fast and loose with including insta details. the other best thing to enjoy is the animatics of the Hunicast imo
If nothing else, we'll always have Paris Hunicast.

if I can 'devil's advocate' (heh) for ParanoidDJ for a sec, I just wanna put the song in context
so it originally dropped shortly after s1e6 came out, & you can probably still see some of that by the comments where fans joke that he 'saw the future' or 'was ahead of the curve' because a good number of fans didn't think Stolas had any romantic feelings for Blitzo at all before ep7 & that it was just lust (in hindsight that was another soft retcon that Stolas was suddenly in love w/Blitzo - that 'development' really ought to have been onscreen and then the audience might have bought into his sudden change of heart).
he mentions in the description that Stolas 'realizes his own actions have caused the problem' and I think that's what PDJ was trying to do - his songs tend to try and flesh out characters or fill in bits the canon hadn't yet. I can definitely see why people say it seems like Stolas apologia but it did come out back when the show was in s1 and it hadn't started playing the Stolas Did Nothing Wrong card as hard as it did in s2 (plus Loo Loo Land Stolas at least seemed aware that the divorce was affecting Via, even if he totally failed to articulate what was going on with him when she was upset), so it feels more like an attempt at a potential direction Stolas could have gone with the setup ep1-6 had provided.
I can't say for sure of course, but I think PDJ was aware that Stolas is the problem (or at least part of the problem, idk if he's ever spoken about stol/tz publically) and was just following what arc the show seemed to be setting up with him (and then it promptly didn't in s2, since nothing is ever Stolas' fault now apparently)
it's why it's so annoying to see the lyrics changed - PDJ's Stolas actually gave a darn about Via and seemed to realize at least part of what he'd done wrong, while keeping him mostly in character by preserving his classist attitudes that he needs to work through (the repeat of the impish plaything line)
official video Stolas is whitewashed and whiny. personally I think it's a small miracle Viv even kept the line 'I will try to make amends/for making you means to an end' since it directly refers to what actually happened - Stolas used Blitzo for sex.
but I assume Viv left that line in because she wants it to mean 'Blitzo seduced Stolas so Stolas used him right back' instead of what actually happened: 'Stolas used the threat of losing his job and the pressure of being shot at to coerce Blitzo into monthly sex'
this is all how I remember it from back when the song came out, though - I could be totally wrong, but as far as I know Paranoid has never said he likes stol/tz or thinks it's 'mututally toxic' or anything like what stans usually say
Oof I guess I was too hard on him. I do appreciate you typing this out and adding some context. But then again before episode seven…stolas was an absolute monster towards Blitzø and the rest of imp. He was only kind to Octavia, the same species as him. But to everyone else he was and honestly still is, just purely awful.
I definitely feel like him and all of us, if we are honest, saw a lot more kindness and good traits in stolas than are actually there. I still hold that stolas at the end of ep 6 and the stolas at the start of episode 7 are not the same character at all. Plus, having us see Blitz be enslaved by him, and then tongue kiss him after, all that said to me was that he’s allowing himself to be sexually objectified because he thinks it’s all he deserves. I was actually really shocked that he kissed him, it was such a bizarre contradiction to the intimidation, abuse, and a mutual hatred, we had just seen. Then he asked for a reward…? So strange.
And season 2 stolas is yet again another character. When he wears his hat he’s his usual gross self then the hat comes off and he’s a wimp. If what I’ve heard is true he gets even more soft and pathetic and sopping wet cat-like. I just have no idea what he adds to the story other than taking us on a self pitying emotional detour we didn’t ask for. With none of the introspection paranoid DJ thought he would show. I’m sorry but Stella was kindve right, it is annoying.
Taking out the Octavia lyrics is unbelievable!!! It makes him look so so bad but this is supposed to be his woobie arc, so what gives?
Also I wont stop reiterating that stolas led Blitzø to his bedroom by force and locked him in there. Blitzø thought he was going to kill him, he was scared, creeped out, and actually did try to negotiate out of it but was told not to bother with excuses. I honestly don’t care that he tried to survive by faking seduction. Don’t forget he said “ew” at the idea, and then “alright fine” which is just so gross…
This is all speculation because I’ve heard nothing about what happens in Full Moon—but-I don’t really believe he’ll try and make “amends” the next episode is going to be stolas emotionally manipulating him into “choosing” the book (him, having free sex and a fan to praise and coddle him) or the crystal (a life on his own) it’s going to be really hard to watch. And Viv despite what she’s written of him being creeped out terrified and grossed out by stolas will try sell us that the sex with stolas was great. Even though everything he says and does points to the opposite.
I mean it is pretty clearly a pro stolitz song and that’s what it was used for
