I've been reading and watching some reviews of Oppenheimer and am shocked at the way some people don't seem to be able to connect to characters who are a little bit closed off and inwardly complicated.

This is a film you need to bring your own empathy to. It isn't actively provoked and drawn out of you.

Which, given that it deals with the construction of the Atomic Bomb, I think is something that should be self explanatory. If you go into making this thinking "Oh I will make people feel so bad about the bombs" you're already headed in the wrong direction. It's not the question whether or not it's bad. The question is whether or not you realize it's bad when no one tells you outright how to think about it.

This movie is incredible for doing this.

i love. pathetic fyodor. so much. i never got people seeing him as all that dominant, he looks like a total touch starved loser who would freak out if someone made those advances on him, not saying he wouldn't want it, but he would probably be, a bit confused at first, to say the least. in cannon his ability keeps him from forming relationships with people so i doubt he's ever had any real experience with things like that. whatever, now i'm going on a rant, point is. evil guys being really needy and pathetic >>>

Fyodor is most definitely touch starved, and as you said his ability absolutely has a lot to do with that. That and his intelligence prevent him from making any true genuine connections. He is not incapable of it, but the circumstances have been almost cruel to him in that aspect.

So if someone did make advances on him, whether they be sexual or otherwise, he would be confused and probably unsure of what to actually do. He tries to keep that calm façade but inside he’s loosing it. 

Touch starved is also probably an understatement, I doubt that man has even held anyone's hand. You’re right, I do think he’d want to but he is uh, a little awkward about it. I think it’d be sweet though to be honest. He wants to be affectionate but his attempts are clumsily endearing.

I think he has the potential to be dominant, but honestly I don’t really see it. I do think he’d be needy, though he’d try to hide it, cover it up with a false confidence and calmness.

Also a really big reason I can’t take “Izzy is the vicious villain of ofmd” seriously is because he’s pathetic. And not in the typical “this guy is dangerous but a little pathetic” way villains are, he’s just through and through pathetic. He gets a tummy ache when it’s stormy. He pushes Black Pete for no fucking reason but his need to prove he’s a Tough Guy. He’s desperate for any actual affection of any kind but would rather die than say that. A total cunt with innumerable flaws, but a pathetic one.

I know you have been diving deep into the DTCU (David Tennant Cinematic Universe), but have you watched the 2017 Ducktales cartoon? David voices Scrooge McDuck, with his incredible Scottish accent. It's such a fun show on it's own but knowing David is behind the grumpy old duck makes it even better. 100% recommend 🦆

I am indeed deep in the DTCU also yes I have actually watched the 2017 Ducktales show or at least part of it. I tried watching it when it came out but I think I lost interest but when I found out that David Tennant voices Scrooge I started watching it again :3 I love his accent in this!!! Also him being in this makes me extra happy because when I was younger I Loved (and still love) to read all the Donald Duck comics <333
