how about a pacific spiny lumpsucker :)
Today on CHUNK! FUNK! GUNK! We rate
the PACIFIC SPINY LUMPSUCKER:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5/10 Chunk
10/10 Funk
9/10 Gunk
Once again we come across a creature I had never heard of before today. Apparently they’re very bony, but since they have such a square shape to them I give them a little chunk. They have a very very funky look and a strange gimmick, high funk. These fish are also very slimy (as found in my brief googling of them), high gunk.
Overall: 9/10
Its eyes are so full of hope. Its mouth is always agape in a state of wonder. Its tummy goes suck suck.
It is beautiful.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
Often hailed as beautiful and powerful, lumpsucker fish have many talents; one important skill they lack, though, is swimming. Lumpsucker bodies are almost perfectly round, which isn't very hydrodynamic. On top of that, they lack a swim bladder-- an organ that other fish use to control their bouyancy. As a result, lumpsuckers spend most of their lives suctioned onto rocks or coral.

Part of a speedpaint that I had to break up into two of my merfolk-themed videos over on Youtube -- the first part (which is about romance & merfolk stories) is already up, and the second part comes up later today.
The second part will discuss a poignant question: Do mermaids cry? 😢

A good boy who will sometimes look as though he is receiving a holy vision from divine light.
Body Features-
They can grow to be 1-5 inches or 2.5 to 12.5 (5 inches is incredibly rare) cm in length (Tiny spiny) Most commonly these lumpsuckers grow to be 3 inches in legnth
Their spiny lumps are called tubercles and females tend to have larger tubercles
They also have a sucker disk on the bottom of their bodies, which is formed by modified pelvic fins.
Diet-
They enjoy consuming slow moving crustaceans, mollusks, and worms
Predators-
Their predators include Sable fish, Lancet fish, and Pacific Cod
Spawning-
They spawn in shallow warm waters from July to October, the eggs are orange and the offspring stay in these warm waters until throughout their lives
Lifespan-
The lifespan of the pacific spiny lumpsuckee is currently unkown.
Conservation Status-
The current conservation for these guys is unknown but the biggest threat to their survival comes from climate change and rising sea levels, which can destroy their shallow water habitat.
FUN FACT~
By the way, did you know that Pacific Spiny lumpsuckers are actually covered Face to Fin in Teeth?
Yes it's TRUE! The Spiny lumpsuckers spines are made of enamel, which is the same material your teeth are made of.
Enjoy this photo displaying its multitudes of teeth

🐸 The bonus art this month featured several characters, with a guest appearance of Frodrick (who is cosplaying as Don Gero), at the suggestion of a patron. I usually don’t include modern references in the art BUT like... everything about the Frodrick house story is too freaking cute! 🐸
Patrons are also getting the chance to vote on whether or not Gan should get a costume change for the final part of the story. This’ll be interesting...
As a reminder, the comic will be on break this Monday. Have a great weekend everyone! ❤️
