kind of a tragedy that ao3 didn't exist in the 70s and 80s. i know people say it would be a horror story to find your parent's ao3 but honestly as long as you avoid anything E-rated until you're like the same age they were when they wrote it you'd be fine. my mom has an old yellowed manuscript of the extremely generic high fantasy novel she painstakingly wrote on a typewriter at age 15 and i've read it twice. her self insert was a side character tough warrior catgirl named "catchild" who had a sword and always rode on horseback and could talk to feral cats in the main character's village. are you telling me you guys would find ABSOLUTELY NO DELIGHTS in the OP deviantart OCs that your disco 'rents came up with.......

#if you have a bad relationship with your parents to begin with you're obviously exempt #anyway the apple doesnt fall far from the tree where my mom is concerned #but imagine if she hadn't kept that out of nostalgia! boxing it up through endless moves around college and old boyfriends and #between europe and the US. between multiple states within the US. it would just be LOST #the women in my family have been preserving and passing down journals and love letters and postcards for over a century #pages over a hundred years old all bound up and carefully placed inside a shoebox #ao3 makes personal writing so much easier to preserve it's Unreal. especially when digital decay eats a lot of other online archival spaces #ao3

apple cobbler COMPLETE. it's dairy-free so that the person with an allergy can enjoy a snackum with everyone else. but also this means that in place of butter in the topping, I used applesauce. yet another '90% apple by volume' baking product by me. it's so easy to do.

#I've made a proper cake in a similar fashion. subbed applesauce in place of oil and eggs. cake of apples and flour. it worked out great.#it's just amusing.#I also made a box mix carrot cake bc I promised I would but... idk how to carry everything tomorrow...... u_u #yay I get to sit down now yaaay

There are some books that are just BETTER if you go through them with a pencil and underline the shit out of tiny details, and honestly if anyone found Hogg's 'Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner' difficult to get into, I highly encourage you to give it another go and give yourself a license to extensively research & annotate every little bit

#I mean I'm biased I already liked it #But my reread was just ten times more enjoyable because I scribbled all over it #Marking in historical details and double-checking what looked like subtle references and thinking over things like faith humour gender etc #And above all NAMES my god that man likes playing with names #At least I think so #And how Hogg puts himself into the story and then doesn't and then does again??#Classics aren't necessarily all going to be books that sweep you off your feet #Sometimes they're classics because you get to gnaw away at them like a worm with an apple #And you know I'm highly HIGHLY biased but I really enjoyed doing that with this book #It fits perfectly into some of my favourite literary pigeonholes #Ticks a lot of different boxes #And I doubt I will make any converts but as I'm aware taste in particular books is very personal #And unlike say Wuthering Heights the particular reasons I liked Hogg's confessions aren't necessarily common #But also this website has analysed the hell out of Dracula for the last two years #And I grant you Confessions doesn't have as much action but takin just a little bit of that annotating and research energy into it #Really improves the whole experience of reading this book #reading log
