"This is.. West 4th-Washington Square. Please stand clear of the opening doors."
Your heart was racing, your body practically trembling as you stared forward. Was this actually going to happen?
Ding
Quickly but carefully, you pushed yourself out of the opening of the subway. You didn't want to get trampled by the crowds of people trying to get in. You've learned better to just move as quickly as possible if you want to make it to your destination on time.
You also learned how easily frustrated people get when they are behind someone who either doesn't know where they are going or is just walking slowly.
Last year, you took the leap of faith and moved to New York City. Like many others, you dreamed of moving to this extravagant place to make a name for yourself. You daydreamed of walking the busy streets and having a cute tiny apartment with a skyline view. You sacrificed that latter wish for an in-unit washer and dryer - a real jackpot find!
While you certainly have made friends in the city, you often find yourself frustrated with the dating department. You have been on several first dates, a few that turned into second and third dates. One or two turned into potential relationships.
Yet, it would quickly fizzle out.
At first, you thought that it was something with you. You tried changing how you approach first dates, how you dress for them - anything that you thought you could be doing wrong was thought over meticulously.
"The problem isn't you," your roommate vowed. Your racing mind was settled by the NYC Dating Queen herself. She has been through the wringer with guys throughout the whole city. "You're in your 20s in New York City," she laughed. "Most guys are thinking with their dick first then their brain. Ever notice how many guys are reaching back out, begging for another chance?"
You slowly nodded your head. "Yeah, which is so annoying because by the time they think straight, I've already moved on."
Maybe you were a bit old-fashioned when it came to love. No, you weren't in the market to settle down quite yet. You wanted to meet someone and take things slow, go on dates, and be exclusive before making that big of a commitment. Getting the conversation out of the dating apps was the first milestone you wanted to achieve.
"Good! Don't give them any type of satisfaction. All of these guys are dates from Tinder?" "Yep," you announced, making sure to pop the 'p' before taking a sip out of your wine glass. "So you're also getting the mix of tourist guys who are just horny and wanting to fuck while visiting the city."
You groaned at the realization, your head leaning back against the arm of the couch. How was she always right about this kind of stuff?
"You deserve to meet your prince charming in another way. Clearly, dating apps are not cutting it." "And going up to a guy at the bar scares me," you confessed before fixing your posture.
The two of you were sitting on the couch. It was a snowy night in the city which caused many of your evening plans to get canceled. The two of you were nestled on the couch, watching a movement on HBO Max with a chilled bottle of red wine. Your other roommate managed to escape the apartment to go on a date tonight. Lucky bitch.
"You know how our lovely roommate is out on a date?"
You nodded again as you looked over, an eyebrow raised. Wherew as this going?
"She only got together with him once she deleted the dating apps and tried something different." And the look on your other roommate's face told you she had something planned for you.
That was how you find your way navigating through the busy streets of Manhattan. You had no idea that speed-dating was so popular, or that it could be successful. Your roommate's current relationship gave you hope that meeting someone this authentically could be the solution to your problems.
Tonight, speed-dating was taking place at a bar in Greenwich Village. You've honestly been trying to come grab brunch here as you were drawn to the aesthetics shown off on social media.
It did bring a smile to your face to see the white-painted door surrounded by vines. Three brick steps led up to the front door. It was like a little escape room all the steel and concrete of the city.
Even though you were ecstatic to be going to this new place, it didn't help your nerves. You were the type of person who loved getting to know someone for sure, but something was intimidating about going on multiple "first dates." You had to put on a good impression for more than an hour.
“Hi, you also hear for the speed dating?” A voice called out from beside you.
You looked over to see the most gorgeous man. He was tall, dressed in a black button up which peaked from the grey winter coat he was wearing. His hair was sleeked back with a few strands framing his forehead. He also wore this soft smile which made your knees weak. He was definitely going to be hot commodity tonight.
You nodded slightly, offering also a gentle smile. “How could you tell?” “Let’s just say I’m hoping to get to know you better tonight,” he said, winking.
It took everything in you not to let your jaw drop. You never met someone who spoke so coolly. He was the total package.
“Come on, let’s get you out of the cold. You’re practically shivering.”
Maybe it was from the chilly evening hair. Or maybe it was your nerves overriding your system. Either way, you were not going to disclose the truth. Not when this gentleman had his hand placed on your lower back to help you inside.
“Already trying to win me over?” You asked teasingly. “How could you tell?” He asked, matching your tone from earlier.
The two of you shared soft laughter as you crossed the threshold into the cocktail bar. There were tables lined up with white linen, a candle in the middle, and a short bouquet of flowers. Frank Sinatra was playing overheard, both screaming New York and romance. The mystery man stood slightly behind you, his hand leaving your back which you already missed.
“Hi! Sorry, we are closed for a private event,” the hostess said. “Oh no, sorry! We are both here for the speed-dating event,” you explained.
The hostess blush lightly from her mistake before nodding her head. “My apologizes, I assumed you two were already a couple since you walked in together. Can I get your name, please?”
You couldn’t help but feel your heart flutter at the insinuation. Sure, you guys happened to cross paths with the handsome stranger. Possibilities were endless though!
“Y/f/n y/l/name” “Great! All checked in. Here is your number ticket that indicates your table. And here is two drink tickets for the evening.”
You nodded, saying a quick “thank you.” You took the tickets before putting your phone in your purse. It bought you enough time to overhear the stranger behind you and gain some pieces of his identity.
“And your name, sir?” “Choi San.”
You smiled to yourself once you got his name. Choi San.
Not wanting to linger anymore, you began making your way to the long row of tables. Each table had a heart laminated and taped to the table. They were numbered 1-16. Glancing down at your ticket, you saw you were placed at number 7, your own lucky number.
More people were beginning to file into the establishment. However, you were trying your best not to scope out too much. You wanted to go into this open-minded, wanting to take in the experience while remaining open to the potential of finding a new connection. It didn’t help that your mind was already infiltrated with a man named Choi San.
“Looks like I’ll have to wait a little bit to get to know you, pretty girl,” San said.
He winked at you as he passed by your table, heading towards Table 8. Looks like you’ll be ending your night on a high note if he would be your last encounter of the night. You watched him for a moment. He sat on the opposite side of you, giving an indicator that the men will either be transitioning or the females will.
Feeling your eyes on him, he looked over at you too quickly for your liking. It didn’t give you enough of a chance to glance away. Your cheeks were also a key indicator what you had been up to, which weren’t really concealed despite the dimmed lighting. He chuckled lightly underneath his breath before he got to work at shrugging off his jacket.
You couldn’t pull your eyes away when his jacket off did in fact confirm the black button up he was wearing. What kept your attention was the way his fingers got to work unbuttoning the top 2, revealing his golden chest underneath. You wanted to be respectful, but you couldn’t help but slightly gawk at the man adjacent from you.
“Keep your eyes on me, angel. I’ll be coming for you.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Welcome ladies and gentleman to our fifth annual Cupid's Speeding Dating! Here is how it's going to go. Men are going to move to the left, switching the seat to chat with a new woman. You will have five minutes to make your best first impression."
Your eyes shifted over towards San, seeing that he would be moving further away from you at first. However, that just means you get to be the last person he talks to tonight.
"You know, there are a lot of things I can do in 5 minutes." You were interrupted by your internal thoughts by the man across from you. Your nose scrunched up as you understand quickly what he was suggesting.
"Please do not exchange numbers or socials until the next of the event. We want to make sure you are investing more into your conversations."
The guy across from you smirked again, winking. Ugh! Does this guy really think he has a chance?
You leaned back into the seat, wanting to create distance from you and your first date of the evening. You weren't much of a person to fixate on appearances. I mean, the guy was quite attractive. Yet, the moment he opened his mouth, all possible attraction flew out the door. It honestly just made you yearn more for San.
Noticing movement out of his peripheral, San glanced over. He flashed you a smile before going to pay attention to his current date. Sure, he knew he was most excited to talk to you, but he also didn't want to be rude. He just couldn't help but glance over to make sure you were okay.
"You can begin!" The host said excitedly.
Soon, the cocktail bar was filled with chatter. You decided to take a sip of water to ease your nerves, but also try to come up with a conversation to have with this guy. You were forced to be sat at the same time for the next five minutes anyways.
"So, what's your favorite position?"
This might possibly be the longest five minutes of your life.
Luckily, the guy talked more about himself which helped time run out. He was leaning across the table, as if he was trying to look down the top of your dress which caused you to only lean back into the wooden back of the chair. You also were silently thankful when the waitress brought over your first drink of the evening.
Beep beep beep. Beep beep beep.
"Okay, gentleman, please move one to your left."
The guy across from you let out a groan before pushing himself up. "I'll catch you after tonight," the guy said, winking. "Maybe we can go home together. Or slip into the bathroom for a little fun." You didn't even catch his name nor did you want to.
"It was nice chatting with you," San said next to you. "Good luck this evening!" There is an example of a gentleman.
As he got up to head to the next table, he smiled once more at the girl he was first chatting to. He also took a moment to glance at you, smiling a bit brighter. You felt as if you were going to melt in your seat. You just had to wait 14 more rounds before you got to be alone with San.
The second quickly blended itself until the 10th round. Sure, you loved chatting with the guys, and you could see yourself potentially going on a real first date with one or two. However, the whole time, you kept glancing over at San.
It would cause a twitch in your heart when he laughed at another girl's joke. The further he separated from you, the less you noticed his eyes finding yours. The reality that he could be more interested in someone else was beginning to set in. He could very much land at your table, being the last date of the night, and be exhausted. He could already have his heart set on another which caused you to sigh softly.
"I see you have eyes for someone already."
Looking up, you were greeted by a wide smile. The gentleman in front of you took a seat in front of you, running his hands through his hair to push back his hair. He was wearing an all-black outfit - dress pants that had a white, thin strip running up the side; a black v-neck that showed the silver chain around his neck, and a slightly oversized black sport coat.
"Sorry," you laughed lightly, blushing a bit. You didn't want to give off the wrong impression, especially when this gentleman seemed kind.
"No need to be sorry. Should introduced myself since it sees that you're gawking at my best friend," he said proudly. "My name is Wooyoung, and you are?"
You raised an eyebrow, feeling a bit intrigued. "Y/n." You took a sip out of your cocktail before setting it down on the counter. "You are friends with San?" "Oh, I see you two are on a first-name basis now. When is the wedding?"
Your cheeks got hotter as you took another sip out of your drink, which caused the young man to laugh. "Don't worry, I've seen him checking you out as well." "Stop, you're just saying that," you laughed. "We only met literally 30 minutes ago. There is no way that he is checking me out and I haven't noticed."
Leaning back into his chair, a smug grin curled onto his lips. He had one hand on the table, and the other resting on the back of the chair.
"You have no reason to trust me since I'm a complete stranger. However, I know my best friend. And I can tell you right now that if you look to my right side, you would be able to see San. And I bet he's fuming that his best friend is chatting up the girl he's been eyeing all evening."
You raised an eyebrow at this man's analysis. He looked at you challengingly, egging you on to look over to his right.
Unable to resist, you looked over. Your eyes widened as you noticed San was glancing from his date over to your table. His fists were clenched slightly while he did his best to maintain his composure in front of the woman he was chatting to. Yet, it was as if steam was about to shoot out of his ears.
"See?" Wooyoung said triumphantly. "You've got San wrapped around your pretty little finger, y/n."
Seeing San make eye contact with you, his eyes widened before he quickly looked away. You couldn't help but smile a bit brighter, your confidence starting to rise again. Maybe Wooyoung was right after all.
Beep beep beep. Beep beep beep.
"I'll definitely be seeing you around, y/n. Have a good rest of your evening," Wooyoung announced. He pushed himself up from his seat, about to move to the next table.
One thing you learned about Wooyoung in your short encounter was that he was filled with evil schemes and plots. For example, calling out how you and San kept looking at each other as if nobody could notice. You learned that while San was his best friend, he also liked getting a rise out of him.
Before you could say anything back to him, Wooyoung moved closer to you. He leaned down to press a firm kiss to your cheek, one everyone at the speed-dating event could see. Your eyes widened at his action. What was he thinking?!
People seemed to notice which caused cheers from the guys in attendance while the other women gasped. "Please keep it moving, Romeo," the event host announced. "You'll have enough time to show affection later."
"You'll thank me later," he whispered to you before moving to the seat at the next table.
You felt a bit guilty for not remembering the four guys. They seemed very friendly, having personalities that made it easy to talk to. You guys couldn't describe what on Earth was even said, not when your mind was counting down until you finally got to talk to San.
"You're a great listener, y/n. Too early to ask for your number?" "The host said no exchanging until after."
You looked over to see San standing up straight. You didn't think he did so maliciously, but it was obvious he was annoyed by the guy still sitting down. The guy you just talked to glanced over at you before putting his hands up in surrender and getting up.
Just as quick as the guy stood up, San slid into the seat. He moved the chair in so he could lean slightly over the table. "Do you like knowing your a hot commodity, angel?" He asked softly, a drastic change from how he just spoke.
"I have no idea what you are referring to," you said innocently.
San's hand moved to rest close to yours, his fingertips ghosting over your own. It sent electric shocks throughout your body just be being in close proximity.
"So you don't want to admit that my best friend had you giggling? You couldn't have thought that Wooyoung was seriously that funny. He gets all his best jokes from me!"
You could see San was getting a bit worked up. His chest was puffed up, wanting to present himself as a better option against whoever stood in his way, even if it was his best friend. Little did San know he had no true competition when you've had your eyes on him all evening.
"Actually, I found it adorable how jealous you get. Wooyoung merely pointed out this fact," you said, smirking.
You noticed then San's shoulders slump over a bit. His cheeks were flushed as he stared at you for a moment before looking towards the end of the row where Wooyoung was. Wooyoung, who was watching you two this whole time and offered a wave over to you two.
Sensing that San was getting a bit flustered, you moved your hand to rest on his. This caused his attention to move back to you, a smile curling onto his lips. He glanced down at your hands, eyes flickering to yours. You were not sure what he was looking for, but it became clear once he slipped his fingers in between yours.
And he looks for consent before doing anything? What a jackpot.
"I'll have to admit though. I was also getting jealous. I didn't like seeing you laugh with other girls when it should've been me," you confessed. Sure, you were just as embarrassed owning up to your faults, but you also hoped an ounce of your truth made San feel better.
It seemed to do the trick as his body relaxed. His thumb gently caresses the side of your index finger. You noticed his eyes were not leaving yours whatsoever, unlike before when his eyes would wonder around.
"Well, darlin', we don't need to wait anymore. You've got me all to yourself."
You and San spent the next hour or so chatting. You talked about your childhood, how you both ended up in New York City, and all your favorite things. Every time you talked, San looked at you as if you were made out of gems. He just adored listening to you, finally being sat at the same table with you.
San has always wanted to come to the United States. At first, it was to practice his English. However, he quickly realized that he wanted to learn more about people. He was currently researching graduate programs to study Sociology.
So not only is he kind and physically attractive, but he also was outgoing and intelligent. He was just checking every one of your boxes!
But he also was falling hard for you. He was impressed with how you took a leap into moving to New York City by himself. He was lucky to have Wooyoung whoo made the whole transition easier, so he couldn't imagine taking on the city solo. He admired your courage.
He also wouldn't vocalize it quite yet but he almost felt as if you two were destined to be in the same city.
The two of you didn't even notice that the other participants had left. The guys you had talked to tried staying around to grab your number, fuming at how San seemed to have snatched all your attention. Being the great friend Wooyoung is, he ushered them out so you and San could be uninterrupted.
It was as if Wooyoung was your own Cupid, doing everything in his power to make sure the love connection worked.
"I'm sorry, love birds, but we need to close up for the night."
San and you looked around, not realizing that all the tables had been cleaned and cleared after the event. The room was silent except for the noise of movement in the kitchen.
Looking back at you, he bit his lip. The clogs were stirring in his mind as if he was trying to figure out what to do next. Of course, you two would leave the cocktail bar, but then what? He looked as if he was afraid to say goodbye, and so were you.
"Why don't we walk around the Village? I'm sure we could find a late-night diner that isn't too crowded." "That sounds perfect."
San helped you out of the table before lifting yup your winter coat. He held it out for you, assisting you in slipping your arms through the sleeves. You turned slightly to press a kiss to his cheek, which made San light up like a little kid on Christmas day.
He quickly slipped on his own jacket before going to rest his hand back on your lower back. He nodded his head, both apologizing for overstaying but thanking the host for putting together the event.
She smiled understandingly as she witnessed San escort you back outside. His free hand pushes the front door open for you.
Maybe love did exist in New York City after all.

I keep thinking about the Virtual Singer from each Sekai and what do they mean
Like what do they represent, what and who makes them appear and what does it mean to the related character
For a long while I thought each VS was linked to a specific kid, based on the focus where they appeared and who it was related to, mostly because of Niigo because... Damn each of them got their assigned VS for a year and half pratically you all know what I mean
But it didn't quite fit all the units and it also fit Niigo less than before, so it couldn't be that
So I kept thinking and
I think each Virtual Singer represent a... "concept", some very specific feelings from each kids
The one I'm the most sure about are VBS and L/N but I just can't explain L/N because they're so obvious to me I don't have the words to express it, so I'll use VBS VS as an example
Starting with Miku
Well, it's pretty simple... Miku is the only one I don't have a clue about (But she's often related to Toya now that I think about it)
So !
Meiko is so obviously that mentor figure, like the role-model... And by that I obviously mean RADers. The way she gives huge Nagi-san and Ken-san vibe and the similarity you can notice between her and those two definitely comes from An and Akito's perception of them, I don't need to elaborate on why I think
Rin and Len are the definition of "partner". I mean, An literally said it in Len 1* side story, she don't see them as sibling or lovers, but as singing partner
And each time one of the kids has some trouble with their specific partner, it reflects on Rin and Len, without much surprise.
They probably both has a distinct meaning, I think about Len's fear of being left behind and being kinda jealous in bout for beside you that obviously fit An but also Akito (those two again, Akito and An are as easy to read as open books it seems. Funny cause they're not the one fond of reading- ahem.), But I can't fully grasp it tbh...
I think I should precise I'm only aware of the stories out on EN before I keep going
Because VBS Kaito and Luka have only one focus feat on EN rn (Vivid Old Tale is the current event) so I could be wrong or maybe I've missed something
But oh by God Miku they make me ill I have to elaborate on them
Kaito first, he appeared during SBD, an Akito focus
And the sweet tooth aside, no one would ever think he looks like Akito. You could even say he's the complete opposite, with his airhead behavior and his innate talent. I even saw some people comparing him to Toya
Meanwhile Luka appeared, or she most likely came back, during SDSC, Toya's focus
And... Well she's also an airhead, kinda. People doubt her link to Toya way less than Kaito's one with Akito, but when you look at it she's everything Toya would think he isn't. She's the carefree and emotionnal one who just go with the flow without thinking about the technical side of things much (something Kaito is way better at even he doesn't seem so). Like, she's just... Living at her fullest, you know
They are everything but alike the kid they came around for... So what does it mean ?
Well I would say Kaito and Luka are what Akito and Toya wish they were, kind of. Akito's frustation being depicted during SBD, how he was chasing after Toya all this time and still kind of do
Toya who was compared to Kaito by ppl (not in game as far as I know), and who's also some kind of talented airhead...
Toya's wish to experience new things in SDSC, that part when he mention how he "has done so little with my [his] life..." But how he would catch up now that he can
And the way how if you ask Toya, the one who made him discover than a such freedom was possible, and kind of open the door for him to this carefree world is Akito. And how he would not be here without him
Did I just typed a whole Virtual Singer analysis only to trick you and makes you read about gay parallels- Noooo, what do you mean... I wouldn't dare
More seriously yeah I have an Akitoya illiness so they're the more developped thoughts I have on the topic, but I wish and hope people would dig into this more because I can't grasp every concept by myself
Don't forget how much Akitoya are gays tho-
Bonus part do you know what happen if you swap the A and the K in Akito's name
VBS Kaito and Akito are kind of the two side of ADHD when you think about it. And that makes sense because Kaito comes from Akito so if you combined them you got the combined style of ADHD do you get me-
Anyway

what are your top 5 movie recommendations?
EYY ok im a terrible person to ask because i absolutely do not watch movies unless forced to at gunpoint and most of them are not queer SO here's just like... my 5 fav movies i guess lmao
THE JACKET (2005) dir. John Maybury 🌸
Tumblr media
(hey my first non-bl related gif!)
The narrative is a time slip fantasy in which a Gulf War veteran who suffered a death or near-death experience while on active service returns to the United States where he is blamed for the death of a policeman, and incarcerated in a hospital for the criminally insane. Subject to experimental treatments there, which involve him being shut inside a morgue casket while tied in a straitjacket, he eventually learns to travel through time and is able to offer help to various people.
i watched this in high school one lazy afternoon with my mom and became obsessed. i don't think it did well? or was really on anyone's radar? but Keira Knightley is fucking gorgeous in it as is Adrien Brody - both of which i had massive crushes on back then. it's definitely HEAVY and darker, obviously, and has a bit of an open ending but i eat that shit up.
"The important thing in life is to believe that while you're alive it's never too late."
PROMARE (2019) dir. Hiroyuki Imaishi 🌸
Tumblr media
Thirty years has passed since the appearance of the Burnish, a race of flame-wielding mutant beings, who destroyed half of the world with fire. When a new group of aggressive mutants calling themselves Mad Burnish appears, the epic battle between Galo Thymos, a new member of the anti-Burnish rescue team Burning Rescue, and Lio Fotia, the leader of Mad Burnish begins.
i've watched promare an embarrassing amount of times, but hey, it's actually a little queer so there's that! the synopsis is just a drop in the hat of what the movie actually is. we love anarchist rebels and advocates for equal rights (and enemies to lovers between a smol angry rebel and a big lovable himbo.) small note - we lost Galo's english VA, Billy Kametz, last year to his battle with cancer. he played a huge role in a lot of my favorite shows and games and it really broke my heart.
DRAGONHEART (1996) dir. Rob Cohen 🌸
Tumblr media
Sir Bowen, an English knight of "the Old Code", mentors Saxon prince Einon in his ideals to make him a better king than his father Freyne. While suppressing a peasant rebellion, rebels ambush and kill Freyne. Then a young peasant girl named Kara accidentally wounds Einon's heart. Einon's Celtic mother Aislinn has Einon taken before a dragon and asks him to save the boy's life. The dragon makes Einon promise to be a just ruler with honor and replaces Einon's wounded heart with half his own. However, Einon proves more oppressive by enslaving the former rebels that killed his father and forcing them to rebuild a Roman castle. Einon also has Kara's father, who led the insurgents, blinded. Believing the dragon's heart has corrupted Einon, Bowen swears vengeance on him and all dragons by hunting them down.
listen, i'm old okay? i watched this obsessively when i was a kid. i didn't own the VHS, i'm not really sure why? but anytime it was on tv i was glued to it. i think i eventually did record it onto a vhs.
MILK (2008) dir. Gus Van Sant 🌸
Tumblr media
In 1972, Harvey Milk and his then-lover Scott Smith leave New York for San Francisco, with Milk determined to accomplish something meaningful in his life. Settling in the Castro District, he opens a camera shop and helps transform the area into a mecca for gays and lesbians. In 1977 he becomes the nation's first openly gay man elected to a notable public office when he wins a seat on the Board of Supervisors. The following year, Dan White kills Milk in cold blood.
i watched this just as i was coming to terms with my own queerness. i wanted to learn more about queer history and this movie came out at the exact perfect time for that. i was a freshman in high school, i'd never heard of Harvey Milk before, but my mom had and she encouraged me to watch it. it got me doing a lot more research into queer history and learning where we came from so while the movie may not be perfect, may not be wholly accurate, i thank it for that.
TITAN A.E. (2000) dir. Don Bluth & Gary Goldman 🌸
Tumblr media
"Titan A.E." takes place in the distant future, after Earth has been obliterated by a mysterious alien race known as the Drej. Cale is a human teenager who has been given a mysterious map by his father, leading him on an unforgettable journey.
i am nothing if not an absolute slut for Don Bluth movies. that man illustrated my childhood. as i got older my mom told me about Titan A.E. and said it was a must watch for my nerdy ass. she was correct. it's not the perfect movie but it's a great look at what Don Bluth and Gary Goldman could've done if we'd considered "animation for adults" back then. we're finally getting somewhere with it now, and i like to think we have them to thank in part for that.
also fun story my husband met one of the animators for this film at a party where a lot of people were doing a lot of drugs and he gave him his card AND MY HUSBAND LOST IT
alright anon and friends i hope i haven't ruined your opinion of me with my taste in movies ~ thank you to all the gifmakers that have made gifs of these films, i'm so glad i didn't have to make one for all of them lmao.

Ernest Thesiger
(15 January 1879 – 14 January 1961) as Dr. Septimus Pretorious.
Thesiger was a British stage and film actor. His early ambition was to be a painter, but after serving and being wounded in World War I, increasingly traveled in literary and theatrical circles. George Bernard Shaw wrote the role of The Dauphine for him in the play “Saint Joan”.
Thesiger made his film debut in 1916, and appeared in several silent films. He befriended director James Whale, who was hired to direct the screen adaptation of J. B. Priestley's novel Benighted as “The Old Dark House” (1932), starring Charles Laughton in his first American film, together with top-billed Boris Karloff, Melvyn Douglas, Gloria Stuart, Raymond Massey and Lillian Bond. Whale immediately cast Thesiger in the film as Horace Femm, launching his Hollywood career. The following year Thesiger appeared (as a Scottish butler) with Karloff in a British film, “The Ghoul”.
When Whale agreed to direct Bride of Frankenstein in 1935, he insisted on casting Thesiger as Dr. Septimus Pretorius, instead of the studio's choice of Claude Rains.
Thesiger made several appearances on Broadway, notably as Jacques to Katharine Hepburn's Rosalind in the longest-running production of “As You Like It” ever produced on Broadway. Later films included “The Horse's Mouth” (1958) with Alec Guinness, “Sons and Lovers” (1960), and “The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone”, with Vivien Leigh and Warren Beatty (1961). Vol. I - Chapter II
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
After making his grand escape, Wataru was content remaining on the roof of the local tavern, which was faintly shaking with the buzz of celebration and heated discussion about what to do with all of these new Apprentices. His ears were able to pick apart every voice, but few of the words, as he listened silently for his cue. One person noticeably absent from the hubbub, though, was a booming, lively voice that he was entirely expecting to be wasting his life away drinking and picking through whatever scraps the tender had thrown out for the strays and small familiars who kept closely by the sides of their masters. He chuckled to himself as he listened, hearing the frustrated outcry of a mob who couldn't look at anything beyond face value, and who all loathed that which they didn't understand, or which came easily to them. "That damned clown," he heard, followed by a muffled jest and roaring laughter, then finally the cracking open of kegs and the clink of lathed and steel-bound mugs. Wataru reached to his belt and pulled out his own ivory chalice, raising it in a silent toast to his own tomfoolery.
Before he could take a sip of his imaginary drink, the force of a small projectile hit his temple. It stung, but he merely turned his head to locate the source. There, he met eyes with three familiar faces, the frontmost of which bearing a striking resemblance to a cotton candy beast he'd seen in a vision once.
"What do you think you're doing?!" The young prince hissed at him, fist clenched with likely yet another projectile, perhaps even something more deadly than a fragment of gravel he'd picked up from the 'commoner's dirt hole' he'd so intensely sworn to never come within earshot of in his entire life.
Wataru beamed back. "Giving out our unit's well-guarded secrets for the public to exploit, why~?"
"Well, congratulations! Nobody's listening to you! You should be lucky, otherwise I'd have Yuzuru take you out faster than--"
"Tori." A hand fell onto the boy's shoulder, who, being in a fit of rage, quickly yanked away from the blond man standing behind him.
"No! I can get angry at him if I want!"
"Oh, give him a break, won't you? He said he has a plan, and I trust his genius~" The man looked up at Wataru with confidence, who locked eyes back with him, jumping down from two stories to meet him at eye level.
"My humblest gratitude goes to you as always, Eichi!"
The fourth and final member of their party, silently but obviously watching the conversation unfold, had finally decided to chime in. "So, what exactly is this plan of yours, Hibiki-sama? You never seem to have informed us."
Wataru never broke eye contact with Eichi. "I'm so very glad you asked~!" He reached into the chalice he was still dangling between his fingertips and pulled out another small sheet of parchment paper. This one looked to be in far worse condition, as if it had been scrunched into a ball and thrown full force through Realm gates by a dragon with especially terrible aim and a lack of courtesy for sensitive information. He unraveled the note from its wrinkly prison and looked it over as he spoke, finally leaving his lover's gaze.
"Do you hear them in there, Butler-san?" Without looking, Wataru gestured to the building behind him. "Do you hear how livid they are? How furious they've become, knowing their journey to becoming a Master doesn't seem so easy anymore?" He finally looked up to the rest of his unit, who were giving him blank stares of confusion, aside from Eichi, who was listening intently. Wataru's voice fell. "They've a few options, now."
Wataru looked directly at Tori. "They may ignore my advice entirely, choosing to go their own path..."
His eyes moved to Eichi. "...they can heed my words, and attempt to find the answer for themselves..."
And finally, they stopped at the final member, who seemed to be the only among them who was beginning to understand. "...or, they can actively defy and attempt to slay me."
"This is an attempt to... 'thin the herd', so to speak."
Tori looked up at his butler. "Where did you get--"
"Precisely!" Wataru perked with excitement once again, then turned to Tori. "See, Princess, most aren't willing to embark on an epic quest given to them by a fool without authority, with instructions they can't understand. Only the bravest, most curious--"
"Or most desperate."
Wataru chuckled at Eichi's interjection. "--or most desperate among them will accept our challenge. Thus, giving us the most formidable allies."
The butler's stare fell to the cobblestone ground below.
"Yes, Yuzuru?" Eichi glanced his way.
"...Or the most formidable foes," he mumbled to himself.
Wataru clapped his hands together, approaching the group. "Very true! Which makes my idea all the better, does it not? After all, if we all seek to be the best, then competition will improve the lot of us!" He stood behind Yuzuru, holding the paper out in front of them both. "And if anyone is able to decipher a centuries-old, yet-untranslated message, then surely they're capable of establishing the peace!"
"You're still an idiot." Tori glared at him.
"An idiot I may be, but that won't stop us!" Wataru juggled the paper between his fingertips once again, folding it delicately, and snapping it out of existence. He drew his wand and pointed it towards Tori. "Now, you, Princess, and your butler, you two are completely new to magic, yes?"
Yuzuru nodded, and Tori huffed.
"Excellent! Now, I will admit my ineptitude with your aimed skillsets, which is why my dear Eichi shall hopefully be able to guide you better than I." He winked at Tori. "Buuu~t, I can introduce you to worlds yet unseen, if you two are interested in true Masterhood!"
Yuzuru raised his hand. "For myself, no, thank you. I will solely be assisting my Young Master in his journey, and will not require assistance. I need only learn spells and strategies most useful for us as a whole."
Eichi pouted. "Ah, but Yuzuru, aren't you with us, too? I requested three equals, not two and a familiar~"
Yuzuru's nose momentarily twitched. "Yes, you did, and I fully respect your decision. But it is my duty as a member of the Majestic clan to aid and assist in the health and well-being of--"
"So you damn us all to the same fate?" Eichi cocked his head.
"All of us but that thing." Tori pointed at Wataru, who couldn't resist laughing.
Yuzuru inhaled deeply. "No. This is the fate I am most satisfied with. You three may do as you please."
Wataru gave Yuzuru a moment's consideration. His poised complexion and unwavering posture never left, but beneath those staunch eyes lay a train simultaneously running off the rails and barreling towards its destination. It seemed so obvious, yet so untouchable, that it was unfathomable even to the eye trained by the bizarre and uncanny.
Tori was much of the same, but in the opposite direction. His demeanor seemed like a crash site in repair, burning bright with disaster and whimsical beauty. Wataru couldn't decide whether to love or fear the boy, so he settled upon patiently waiting for his true colours to shine, as he was so confident they would.
"Well then, if you're so sure, shall we get started?" Eichi finally turned his attention away from Yuzuru and back onto the group as a whole. Tori's eyes lit up, nodding enthusiastically. Wataru stood up straighter and puffed out his chest, holding his hand out to Eichi, who eagerly took it.
"I suppose so. We should waste no time in unpacking the secrets this scroll has to offer. It would be helpful to be the first, after all."
"Let's get started already!" Tori ran ahead of Eichi and Wataru, stopping shortly thereafter and turning back to face them. "I guarantee, we'll have it cracked by nighttime!"
~
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO TRAIN FIRST?!" Tori threw his hands on the desk of the poor shopkeeper before him.
"I'm terribly sorry, young man, but it's not up to me." The elderly woman had her hands folded in front of her, an aged open book opened next to a precariously placed tall beeswax candle.
"No, I'm terribly sorry YOU'RE going to be hearing from my entire bloodline after today!" His face was bright red and fuming, as an entire large sack of gold having been slung carelessly across the desk was slowly being slid back in his direction.
"I do appreciate your offer of gold, but we simply don't sell Runes. Even if I had them in stock, it wouldn't be legal under the Princess's orders to--"
"Legal schmegal! Gimme the goods, you old hag! You call yourself a magic shop?!"
"Young master, there you are!" Being given no time to react, Tori spun wildly around to hear the shop's bell ring faintly and Yuzuru to enter.
"There you are!" He flipped back around to glare daggers at the old woman. "Tell this walking corpse that we're going to shut down her entire-- HEY-!!"
Without warning, Yuzuru grabbed Tori firmly by the wrist, not at all reacting to Tori's desperate-- and admittedly quite formidable-- attempts to escape it.
"I give my deepest apologies, ma'am. My young master seems to be rather confused on the purpose of your establishment, and we will be leaving you at once. Please, keep the gold as compensation for your troubles. Good day."
He didn't wait for the lady's response. Tori kicked and screamed, yanking at Yuzuru's firm grip. He couldn't believe this betrayal! And with being so close to finally making her crack under the pressure?! He was about ready to find another unit entirely, perhaps even insisting on a new butler, before he was already outside and being faced by the disgusting traitor.
"Young master, it's against kingdom law to sell Runes without express authorization."
Tori crossed his arms. "Then why call it a magic shop if you don't sell spells?! It's crazy!"
"I understand you're quite frustrated, but we can still get the Healing Rune in other ways."
"By training and 'earning' it, yeah, I know." He scoffed. "I never agreed to this."
Yuzuru finally loosened his grip on Tori's wrist, moving it as well as his other hand to hold the prince's. "Hibiki-sama and Eichi-sama have already located the first ingredients, and are waiting by them for us. Come, let us find them."
To those heretics, Tori wanted nothing more than to spit on and run over them with a chariot. But groaning the entire way, he reluctantly agreed to obey the kingdom's orders-- for now. But if they so much as made a move that worked against his favour, he was certain to leave them behind. Especially after that fool had completely betrayed his trust, and the only other person who seemed sane had taken his side. He would-- actually, no, more likely he'd have Yuzuru-- keep an eye on those two.
He would be completely unengaged in this "questing" business altogether. It was too much work for someone so noble.
~
Yuzuru watched as Tori stood opposite of Eichi, both with their wands drawn and aimed towards the other. Wataru stood by Yuzuru's side, whose gaze was moving back and forth between the two. Yuzuru's gaze, though, was permanently fixed on Tori.
"Alright. So, now that you've earned your very first Rune, it's important you know how and when to use it." Eichi adjusted his grip on his wand to account for the Rune he'd placed in between his index and middle fingers. "Now, I'm going to hit you with a very weak spell. It should only hurt a bit. Are you ready?"
Tori smirked. "I'm ready for anything. Hit me with your best shot."
"Alright then."
Eichi held his wand up, and the tip began to faintly glow. Sparks began emanating from the light, followed by arcs of electricity, and with a flick of his wrist, a small bolt of lightning shot from his weapon. Tori yelped in reaction, flinching and attempting to move out of the way with no luck. His calf was caught in the fire, and he stumbled. He looked over at Yuzuru for support.
Yuzuru continued watching him closely, inspecting his leg for any signs of major injury. It didn't even damage the thin silk covering him. Thus, he was given no reason for alarm, but still gave Eichi an unacknowledged look of "watch yourself" before once again keeping his look towards Tori.
"Good. Now, grip the Rune that was given to you in one hand, and your wand in the other. That will make the spell more powerful."
Tori nodded weakly, and grasped the Healing Rune with white knuckles. He pointed the tip of his wand towards his leg. "Now what?!"
"Now, channel its power."
Tori looked at Eichi like he was crazy. "How am I supposed to do that?!"
"It will come to you. Just breathe normally, and focus on the heat it gives off."
Tori rolled and closed his eyes, and Yuzuru noticed the tip of his master's wand begin to also faintly glow, despite its shaking. He watched even more intently, noticing Tori's breathing begin to slow, and his eyebrows losing that strain from furrowing. After only a few seconds, but what Yuzuru assumed felt like forever to the Apprentice, Tori peeked with one eye open at his leg.
Eichi came closer. "Well?"
Tori poked the spot where he was hit. "It doesn't... It doesn't hurt anymore?!"
Eichi smiled.
"I... I did it?! Haha! I knew I could do it! First spell of many! I'm practically a Master already!"
"Fufu, that you are~"
Yuzuru also noticed himself relax slightly. He didn't realize watching Tori in such a position, consensual or not, would stress him in such a way. He began to also approach Tori, offering his hand to help him up, and being promptly rejected. He didn't mind this resurge of independence-- he found it quite charming, actually.
"Yuzuru, you saw that, right?!"
"That I did, Young Master."
"That's gotta be the most impressive spell you've ever seen cast!"
"That it is, Young Master."
As Tori continued celebrating, Yuzuru caught through his peripheral vision the approaching figure of Wataru, who seemed equally as excited. "Well done, Princess! But I'm sure you can do better than just that!"
"I absolutely can! Come on, try me!"
Yuzuru grew concerned once again as Wataru drew his own wand.
"Ohoho~? Challenging that 'obnoxious secret sharer', are we? Well then, let our duel commence!"
In the blink of an eye, Yuzuru saw Wataru make a motion for his own Rune pouch, and immediately sprang to action. He quickly snapped his hand into his dress coat's pocket for only a moment, drawing his wand and quickly sheathing it once again. A flash of light shot from its tip, catching Wataru's attention for a split second, enough time to completely disorient him and throw his aim into the nearby woods, blasting a tree with a far more intense shot of lightning and causing a flock of birds to flee horrified from its branches, now singed and tarnished. Yuzuru's heart rate spiked, hands shaking as he bit the inside of his cheek to try and bring it down. He cleared his throat.
"Hibiki-sama, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but Young Master is still a beginner, It's best he learn some... defensive tactics before you attempt to toast him alive."
Wataru slowly looked over to him, still stunned to silence.
Eichi spoke for him. "Yuzuru, I didn't know you knew any spells."
Yuzuru slipped the Rune he realized he was still gripping into his pocket. "I don't. This Rune... it was gifted to me. I'm unsure of what it does, but I figured... it might serve some use in situations requiring quick reaction time."
Wataru finally regained his bearings. "Still, quite impressive form for a beginner! What Rune is that, anyhow?"
Yuzuru took a step back. "That is nothing to concern yourself with. Still, though, I've learned much from simply observing. Irregardless, I think it would be best to simply continue our journey from here. That is still only one Rune of many more left."
Tori seemed immediately satisfied with this answer, as did Eichi given enough time to consider. They both huddled over a small journal, looking through some inscribed text with nearly unreadable handwriting. Wataru followed close behind, giving them suggestions on what Rune to train for next.
Yuzuru sighed to himself, feeling mostly safe knowing that only one of his unitmates didn't believe him.

Outdoor restaurant dining spaces extend until 2026
The Encinitas City Council in San Diego, CA, extended the temporary outdoor restaurant dining spaces until July 2026. This was confirmed during a council meeting held last Wednesday. The decision came after considering dozens of public comments, where restaurant owners pleaded with the council to allow them to keep the temporary parking and even consider making it permanent. The restaurant owners claimed that the extra dining space was vital for their survival during the pandemic. The council also plans to work on a permanent ordinance for outdoor dining. This move is expected to benefit the restaurant industry in Encinitas, providing them with a much-needed boost during these challenging times.

Ercilia Marroquin is an old woman now, requiring thick eyeglasses to see and an occasional reminder about what she has said and done.  There are whole chunks of life that time has taken from her, but sometimes she reclaims the missing in her dreams.  She can see her eldest daughter, Reyna, the bright one with adventure in her bones. The beautiful one she taught to sew and cook and follow her heart, even though it meant leaving El Salvador for New York 33 years ago.
"I had a dream about her," Marroquin said Friday standing on the porch of her home in San Martin, El Salvador. "She was trapped inside a barrel. She was falling."
There's never any conclusion. But today that vision is chilling testament to intuition or imagination or awful coincidence, for as the 94-year-old woman found out Friday, Reyna Angelica Marroquin was the mummified, pregnant woman found Sept. 3 inside a 55-gallon drum in a crawlspace of a Jericho home. Nassau County homicide detectives believe she was beaten and crammed into the container three decades ago, probably by Howard Elkins, her lover and boss at the Manhattan plastic flower factory where she worked. Elkins, who lived in the house with his wife until moving to Florida in 1972, committed suicide three weeks ago after admitting to Nassau detectives he had an affair with a worker in the 1960s.
"So much suffering my little girl must have been through," Ercilia Marroquin said, after she saw a copy of a newspaper account of the gruesome case that has drawn front-page headlines from Florida to Long Island but had not reached the small town about 10 miles outside of San Salvador. Seeing her daughter's picture, her face frozen in time in the 1966 immigration photo, the elderly woman collapsed sobbing into the arms of two relatives.
"I lived with hope that I would hear from her one day," she said. "My heart is destroyed." For 30 years, those who knew Reyna Marroquin wanted to believe something else about her fate. Even when their efforts at finding her failed, when it seemed beyond doubt she had vanished amid a troubling extramarital affair with her boss, they still harbored hope. "All of our lives we have lived with this emptiness," said Adelina Melendez, a cousin who lives in Brentwood. "We always asked 'What happened to Reyna?' Every time we saw one of those programs where mysteries are solved, I always thought one day we would be able to solve Reyna's mystery."
Elkins shot himself before giving police much information about the case and detectives are still investigating whether his DNA matches that of the unborn baby. His family has repeatedly declined to be interviewed. But even with some of the most troubling questions about Reyna's fate unanswered, her trajectory from El Salvador to the United States is tragic: She fled one soured relationship only to fall into another. And in the end, this may have cost her her life.
...
For three decades, Andrade and the Marroquins could cling to these hopes. That Reyna had fled, trying once again to clean the slate. That she had grown cross with her family and would one day come back around. That she was alive, at least.
For three decades though, Reyna Marroquin was sitting carefully folded inside an airtight barrel, a whole world going on above the 36-inch crawlspace where she had been shoved away from time. Two homeowners found no reason to move the 345-pound drum. And Reyna could have remained mummified for years more, if not for a family who moved into the split-level home in Jericho last month and had the seller set the barrel out as garbage.
When the trashmen refused to take it and the barrel was pried opened there on the treelined curb of Forest Drive, 30 years of mystery began to leak out. "God help her," Ercilia Marroquin said. "... I don't care if they send me ashes or dust as long as my daughter is finally back here with me."

Grand Theft Auto VI has, after years of speculation, officially been revealed. The game is scheduled to arrive in 2025, and Rockstar's next open-world epic will take us back to Vice City for another adventure filled with carjacking, murder, robbery, and other assorted crimes.
The first trailer for the game is short, but it still packs in quite a bit of information regarding the game's setting, main characters, and activities. Below, we break it all down so you can get a sense of just what you're in for when the game launches.
Tumblr media
Tom Petty - Love is a Long Road
Grand Theft Auto games use fictional cities for their settings, but they are heavily, heavily inspired by real locations. Vice City is based on Miami, Florida, and the debut Grand Theft Auto VI trailer uses Love is a Long Road by Tom Petty to set the mood. Petty was from Gainesville, Florida, and given the lovers-against-the-world vibes we're getting from the trailer, the song seems fitting.
Tumblr media
Hair physics
Hair has long been one of the most difficult things to animate in video games, and it appears Rockstar is anxious to show players the progress it has made with GTA VI. We get a brief glimpse of this in the trailer, with a bikini-clad woman shaking her head as her hair flows from side to side. It also casts a realistic shadow on her shoulder.
Tumblr media
Environmental hazards?
It's not just the Vice City populace that can spell your doom in Grand Theft Auto VI--the world itself appears to be up to the challenge. This is teased in the trailer via the news ticker just after the one-minute mark, which describes a waterspout sucking up a man and ruining his suit. As this is pseudo-Florida, we also see an alligator walking into a convenience store.
Tumblr media
Set in modern day
Unlike Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, which was set in the 1980s, it looks like GTA 6 will be set in the modern day. We see multiple social media stars making videos during the trailer. One is twerking on top of a moving vehicle and another is getting out of the driver's seat while the car is still moving. Rest in peace to them both, probably. And let's not forget the man with a terminal case of Hank Hill Ass who appears just afterward.
Tumblr media
Callbacks to past games
A few callbacks to previous Grand Theft Auto games are included in the trailer. Around 34 seconds in, you can see a very small glimpse of the Ocean View Hotel, which served as the first safehouse in the original Vice City game. Later, a Liberator monster truck can be seen during a mudding event--these were included in San Andreas and also appeared in Grand Theft Auto V.
Tumblr media
The Florida Joker
Several years ago, a man in the Miami area referred to as the "Florida Joker" made news after a series of arrests. The Florida Joker, as you can imagine, has tattoos that resemble the famous villain. It certainly looks like Rockstar is referencing him in the trailer, which features a brief glimpse of a purple-haired man with face tattoos just after the one-minute mark.
Tumblr media
Leonida
No, not the Spartan king Leonidas--this is the state of Leonida. The fictional state where Vice City is located (like San Andreas is for Los Santos) Leonida is referenced by name several times in the trailer. It remains to be seen how far we'll venture outside of Vice City itself, but the multiple mentions of the state at large could be a hint. It appears there is another location called Hamlet, which gets a mention in the trailer near the end.
Tumblr media
Preventing and enjoying crime together
It appears Rockstar is riffing on the popular app Citizen in Grand Theft Auto VI, which allows people to report crimes in their area. The app is currently very popular in the United States, and we see a notice from an official government account about 43 seconds in that shows an animal control agent attempting to remove an alligator from a swimming pool.

Lover of All Creation
Tumblr media
"Lover Of All Creation!"
"The Feast of St. Francis!"
"Most high omnipotent great Lord,
To You alone most High, do all belong....
Blessed are they who endure all in peace,
For they, O God most high, will be crowned by You,
Praised be my Lord, through our sister Bodily Death,
From whom no living person can escape.
Woe to those who die in mortal sin!
But blessed are those found in Your most holy will,
For the second death will do them no harm.
Praise and bless my Lord,
And thank Him, and serve Him with great humility."
Through out my adolescence and ministry in the United Methodist Church all I heard about Francis was that he loved animals; But when I lived on the street in Hollywood a Franciscan Brother would talk to me as I waited for dates some nights, not judging, simply talking and  shared with me the whole story of  St. Francis.
Later when I was made a member of  The Order of Christian Workers, I was given the name, "Damien" after St. Damien of Molokai. When the The Society of  Franciscan Workers, Inc. was created I in essence became a Franciscan.
For Francis offers a distinctive key to the Gospel. Among the central features of that key: an option to the poor and those on the margins, a resolve to live the Beatitudes, and a determination to proclaim the Gospel not only with words  but with one's life. Carlo Carretto reflects: I think St. Francis of Assisi  is in the depths of every human being, for all are touched by grace--just as the call to holiness is in the depths of every human being.
St. Francis lived out the life of this Indian proverb in its fullest:
You should acquire the kind of wealth which cannot be stolen from you by thieves, which people in power can not take from you, which will stay with you even after your death, never diminishing and never disappearing. This wealth is your soul.
A Novena of St. Francis
Opening Prayer
"Almighty God, you gave to your servant Francis special gifts of grace to understand and teach the truth as it is in Christ Jesus: Grant that by this teaching I may know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
Daily Intention
We pray for people living on the margins of society, in inhuman life conditions; may they not be overlooked by institutions and never considered of lesser importance.
Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
Our Father. . .
Hail Mary. . .
Christ, whom St. Francis, loved, have mercy on us. Amen.
Deo Gratias! Thanks be to God!

Let Love Ache
Father, give me the courage to keep on loving.
when others keep on hurting.
help me to live an achy love, a gritty,
persistent and emptying love;
a love that’s not afraid to flow toward the other
who has little left to offer in return.
And may I tread faithfully with heaven
through the unfinished work that surrounds me.

A Delicious Journey: Exploring the Magic of Indian Cuisine
Tumblr media
Introduction
In a world where culinary exploration is akin to traversing continents, Indian cuisine stands as a vibrant mosaic of flavours, aromas, and traditions that captivates the senses and hearts of food lovers worldwide. From the bustling streets of Mumbai to the quiet corners of Kerala, every dish tells a story of heritage, passion, and innovation. This article embarks on a comprehensive journey, delving into the essence of Indian cuisine, the allure of Indian restaurants, the global spread of Indian flavours, and the culinary tapestry of different states within India.
A Brief History of Indian Cuisine
Indian cuisine's roots are deeply intertwined with the history of the subcontinent, resulting in a fascinating blend of indigenous ingredients and foreign influences. The spices that drew merchants to India's shores centuries ago still form the backbone of Indian cooking. The Mughal era left an indelible mark with its lavish use of saffron, cardamom, and rose water in biryanis and decadent desserts. The British colonial period introduced a fusion of East and West, leading to iconic dishes like the British-inspired "railway mutton curry" and the Indo-Chinese favourite, "chilli chicken."
