A head pops up on the other side of Straw Hat; the last of the fading sunlight refracts off Roronoa’s earrings, winking at her. “Oh,” he says, sounding only mildly surprised to see her. “You’re here too.”

“What are you talking about? What’s going on?”

Roronoa grins. “Yeah. He does this.”

Nami props herself up a little higher on her already bruising elbow. Straw Hat’s got an arm wrapped around Roronoa, same as her, pinning him to his other side.

“Okay,” Nami says, feeling her third headache in as many hours beginning to creep up. “What is this?”

“How he sleeps, I guess. Been doing it since we started sailing together.”

“You’re joking.”

Roronoa shrugs.

“Well, how do we get him to let go?”

“Dunno. Haven’t figured that part out yet,” Roronoa says and then, because he’s no help at all, lays back down.

Sanji is carefully placing a cherry on top of the ice cream, his hands nimble, soft, almost—gentle. But all Zoro sees is the way the hems of his pants are still soaked in blood from an earlier skirmish with a marine ship, red seeping into the cracks on the floorboard, spattering across the kitchen floor in a slow drip, drip, drip.

Zoro stares, fascinated. He can’t bring himself to look away.

(Or, Zoro and Sanji—terrible monsters, in love)

“I don’t buy it,” Pete retorts. “Someone like you? Some cook from East Blue? You’re probably worth a couple hundred thousand bellies at best, maybe a million, if your captain’s somebody.”

Sanji tilts his head back so that it rests against the dirty wall behind him. He’s still upright, somehow, through sheer stubbornness or spite. He doesn’t look like someone who only has tonight left to live. In fact, he looks sharp. There’s no better word for it. His expression is still as peaceable as it has been since he arrived, but watching him is like watching a knife slide out of its sheath. He is, abruptly, dangerous. A tool made for cutting.

“If you knew where I’ve been, you would be terrified of me,” he says.

A catalogue of things stolen by, for, and from Princess Vivi of Alabasta with regards to a certain thief, as documented by her long-suffering captain of the guard.

“If you’re looking for Arlong, he’s inside,” she says, pointing at the monstrous building. Jinbe doesn’t look away from her, from the bruise over her eye. She can’t be older than thirteen or fourteen. Her fingers are worn red and raw. As he watches, a drop of blood drips to the ground.

A girl, with reddish hair and exhausted eyes and a ragged, forced smile, and it’s Koala but it’s not.

(Jinbe goes to check in on his brother, and finds some things that need to be set right.)

“Do you think you can bench press me?” Luffy asks, interrupting him in the middle of a crunch, and Zoro pauses and says, “yeah, sure.”

There’s a tightening feeling low in Shanks’ stomach as his gaze follows those long fingers wrap around the neck of the bottle, the candlelight lancing over a sharp cheekbone. Mihawk is terrifying before he is beautiful, but Shanks isn’t afraid of him, and Mihawk is so fucking pretty. The dim glow filtering in through the windows is beginning to tinge warm, reminding Shanks that they’re on borrowed time; he glances at the clock and decides. He reaches over before Mihawk can straighten and curls his fingers around the shell of his ear.

“Hey.”

Mihawk stills and looks at him from the corner of his eye, barely turning his head. The bottle is in his hand, and Shanks trails his fingers down Mihawk’s jaw to take the liquor from him and set it down on the table.

“Wanna bang?”

Sanji and Zoro have very different love languages.

Usopp gets his hands on a tattoo machine.

Soon after, he gets his hands all over his crew.

When they’re on the forecastle, with the helm just behind them and the figurehead casting them further in shadow, Usopp calls, “Raise the sails!”

Luffy’s gasp next to his ear is the best part of his entire day.

The sails unfold in a great rolling crash of canvas. Even the striped gaff swings out, catching the wind. The whole sloop gives a powerful lurch as if she’s eager to sprint out of port on the back of whatever gale blows along next.

And painted on the foresail, bold and bright and proud, is a grinning Jolly Roger in a yellow straw hat.

“That’s mine,” Luffy whispers, hushed and awed.

“Told you so,” Usopp says smugly.

Ever since he'd left home, people had not stopped asking Zoro about his accent.

Or, the reason Zoro was allowed to wander around alone in Wano.

He keeps moving forward at a steady pace, resisting the urge to run because how fucking embarrassing would that be, running because he missed them, and as he breaks through the treeline he shouts, “Oi, oi—what took you guys so long? It's been—”

And then he freezes, because yes, actually—something is very, very wrong.

The Sunny is anchored just off shore, close enough to see the deck but far enough away that the crew has had to take the Mini Merry to make land. Scattered across the beach in various stages of chaos—rolling around, yelling, fighting—are his crew but not his crew, so similar and yet so, so different. They look younger, fresher, and whatthefuck there, on the deck of the Sunny just peering over the railing, he catches a flash of green—his own green hair—

“Ah, fuck,” he grunts, and then immediately turns back around because no, actually, he does not want to deal with this.

It’s been a while since Sanji has gotten some action, which is the only reason why Zoro’s deplorable, barely-there attempt somehow works. Obviously.

Luffy looks again at the bitemarks that he left on Zoro’s wrist. Zoro’s usually hurt, one way or another. Sometimes it’s definitely been Luffy’s fault too, but the bitemarks feel different. They ain’t like normal bruises or cuts. There’s something about seeing the shape of his teeth in Zoro’s skin. Something about the colors, the slightly paler insides of Zoro’s wrists, and the blueness of his veins, and the dark pink color of where Luffy bit him.

Luffy unhinges his jaw and crams an entire breakfast ham down his throat. He chews reflectively a moment and then demands,

“Zoro, you wanna have a date tonight?”

Zoro answers by inhaling the rest of his orange juice through his nose and promptly spewing it everywhere.

“That a yes?”

Luffy and Zoro destroy a restaurant, end up lost, get in a bar fight with a bunch of pirates and go on their first date. Not necessarily in that order.

“Sanji! It’s lunchtime, right? Now? Soon? Now, right?”

His legs are tight around Sanji’s waist and his arms have come around Sanji’s chest and crossed, grabbing the opposite shoulders, the whole length of his chest pressed tight and close. Sanji can feel the vibration when he talks, the snap of the rubber resonating in his bones.

Luffy’s hair is tickling the back of his neck.

The whole thing is – it’s –

For a long second Sanji is frozen.

“Sanji?”

It feels –

(The Straw Hat Pirates set sail in the East Blue.)

If he gets caught stealing again, if he loses his other hand, he’ll never be a pirate. Never be anything besides a crippled beggar, pleading for scraps.

If he doesn’t steal, he’ll starve.

Despite the fluid nature of his ambition, Zoro himself rarely changes: principles, directions, appearance. And when he does, he makes sure it's under the heavy influence of both long-term irritation and a healthy dose of the nearest hard liquor.

Or, Zoro is trans, surgeries cost money, and there's little to no verified adult supervision in his life.

“God, again?!” Usopp looks down at Sanji who's sitting against a column and tilting his head back while pressing a tissue against his bleeding nose.

“Shu' ub,” Sanji growls. Or, he tries to. It sounds rather unimpressive.

“You're terrible,” Usopp says but he can't hold back the fond smile that's been blooming all over his face again and again ever since he's stepped foot on the Sunny after returning to Sabaody.

It's the big party after defeating Hody Jones. Usopp gets Sanji away from all the mermaids. (Honestly, Sanji, these nosebleeds are disgusting.)

Hot take or whatever but I don't think we should trust a guy who gets really distracted by squirrels and balls and a kitten who could easily get hurt to protect our city. Lightning Dude IS one of the better options as they ARE a highly durable and strong robot, but The Bark Knight and Cat Kid maybe aren't our best bets, they could get hurt easily and aren't exactly professionals.

Don't get me started on the Friendly Friends, I don't think we can trust two guys who JUST left the same exact trio that was responsible for that marshmallow factory's destruction (which left many injured, some DEAD), what if they're pretending? Also the bugs could easily get killed, they're small and fragile, the most work they can do without a high risk of getting smashed is spying on villains.

Commander Cupcake's a different story, as I'm pretty sure that guy only helped out, like, 3 times.

Last night, I attended the 2023 TMAF Chamberfest II performance at the National Concert Hall in Taiwan. The performance was a collaboration between “master” musicians who are principals, associate principals, or professors in national orchestras from various countries, and emerging young musicians.

The concert was divided into two parts, featuring a total of eight pieces. I particularly enjoyed “A. Dvořák: String Quartet №12 in F major, ‘American’, Op.96” performed by Ben Hong, the current associate principal cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, alongside two young violinists, Chieh-An Yu and Hsin Chien, and a young violist, Lukas Shrout.

Additionally, I admired the performance of “F. Schubert: String Quintet in C major, Op.956”, which was led by Mark Kosower, principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, and featured two young violinists, Risa Hokamura and Chin Chien, a young violist, Bill Ko, and a young cellist, Natalie Lin.

My appreciation for their performances stems from the way the musicians immersed themselves in the melodies, which was evident from their natural bodily rhythms during the performance. In particular, the delicacy of Risa Hokamura’s violin playing left me profoundly moved.

However, the highlight of the evening for me was the final piece, “L. Spohr: Nonet in F Major, Op.31”, performed by Hsin-Yun Huang, currently a faculty member at the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, along with young violinist Minami Yoshida, young cellist I-Chang Edison Liu, young double bass player Logan Nelson, young flutist Shuyu Yang, young oboist Yan Yin Lai, young clarinetist Yoshihiro Okuyama, young bassoonist Yu Chung, and young horn player James Picarello.

This was the only piece during the concert that had me smiling from beginning to end. Firstly, the team demonstrated incredible harmony. The musicians weren’t just focused on the music scores in front of them or lost in their own melodies with closed eyes. Instead, I frequently observed them exchanging smiles and looks of affirmation with their partners, seamlessly passing the melody to one another. This high-level performance had me completely absorbed. It gave me the same feeling I had when I saw the very young Japanese violinist Hina Maeda perform in Taiwan at the end of February this year. The exceptional performance by each member of this team made the experience thoroughly enjoyable.

Lastly, I am very much looking forward to your 2023 TMAF All-Star Concert at the National Concert Hall in Taiwan on August 9!

惜しい競馬もあったが4月0勝からスタート！杉山厩舎LINEスタンプ line.me/S/sticker/13219494 #杉山厩舎 #オフィシャルだよww 4月1日（土）中山 11R ベレヌスダービー卿チャレンジ芝1600ｍ牡6 西村淳也 14着12人ゲートの出はまずまずもしっかりと出して行ってハナへ。道中は単騎でマイペースで行けていたし、後続を突き放して良い逃げが出来ていた。ただ、3角過ぎからミッキーブリランテが早めに並びかけてくると、手応えに余裕はなくなってしまい、直線に向いた時にアップアップの手応えでそのままズルズル下がってしまい14着大敗。展開、ペース云々というよりかは、58キロの斤量で今回のメンバーを相手にするには厳しかったということ。それでも昨年の中京記念を勝っているように重賞を勝つ力はある馬で、展開と相手次第のところはあるが、今後の巻き返しに注目したい。 11R ミスニューヨークダービー卿チャレンジ芝1600ｍ牝6 M.デムーロ 8着4人珍しくゲートの出が良く、ミルコ騎手も出して行っていつもより前々となる中団からの競馬むしろ先団好位と言えるくらい王道の位置取りで積極的な競馬となったのは間違いない。道中の手応えも悪くなかったし、4角から直線にかけて上手く前が空いてくれた。ただいざそこから追い出すと2走前に勝った時のような目の覚めるような伸び脚はなく8着という結果。結果論から言えば、この馬はこの馬のリズムで走ることが最後の鬼脚に繋がっている。ゲートの出が良かったことで、勝ちに行く競馬をしたが、この馬にとっては悪手となってしまったと言える。ただ、あのスタートであれば、ある程度の位置を取って勝ちに行く競馬をしたくなるのが、騎手の心情というもの。ミルコ騎手を攻めることはできないだろう。あともう少し外の馬場を走れていれば、もう少し違う結果だったかもしれない。ただ、勝ち馬からコンマ5秒差で中山マイルは本当に安定している。次走以降の予定はわからないが巻き返しを期待したい。阪神 05R プラーヴィ 3歳1勝クラスダ1800ｍ牡3 松山弘平 2着1人スタートはまずまずも頭数が少なかったわりにはポジションが後ろになってしまった。行きっぷりがイマイチなのか手応えも良くはなかったと言える。それでも、1000ｍ標識あたりから徐々に上がって行くと、外々を回りながら前を追い掛けて直線も先に抜け出した勝ち馬を追い詰めたものの、半馬身及ばず2着。ここはシッカリと勝ち切ってもらいたいところだったが、少し足りていないのは現状の力とも言える。それでも勝ち時計は1分53秒台で上がり38秒台の脚は及第点だし、今回は勝ち馬と斤量差が影響したとも言えるだろう。ちょっと残念ではあるが、今後の更なる成長を期待するとともに、もっと良い走りを見れることを期待する。 11R ディアノイアポラリスステークスダ1400ｍ牝5 松山弘平 4着1人タイミングは合っていたが半馬身遅れてのスタート。松山騎手もシッカリだして行って先団好位まで押し上げていったが、結果的にこれが最後に響いてしまい勝ち馬からコンマ3秒差の4着。 2走前に勝った時と同じように、楽に先団を追走して押し切る競馬が理想だった。それでも、持ち時計は詰めているし、直線で見せた勝負根性はさすがのもの。デビューが遅れて地方からスタートした馬がここに来て1戦ごとに逞しさを見せてくれている。スピードはOPクラスで通用するものがあるし、早く地方交流や重賞で走る姿を見たいものだ。 4月2日（日）中山 05R ホシノスナ 3歳未勝利芝2200ｍ牡3 菊沢一樹 10着7人スタートは5分に出て、馬なりで後方からの競馬。道中はスムーズに走れていたが、向こう正面過ぎからペースが上がりだすと追走に苦労する場面も。 4角から直線にかけて内に潜り込むと、一瞬はグッとくる場面もあったが思ったほどの伸びはなく10着という結果。調教でもモタレる面があり、どうなることかと思ったが思ったより良い走りだったのが正直なところ。大型馬でパワーのあるタイプで、これでもう少しパンとしてくればダートでも良いのではないだろうか。次走、一度使っての変わり身を期待したい。阪神 01R ベストポイント 3歳未勝利ダ1800ｍ牡3 松若風馬 5着13人ちょっとだけ出のタイミングが遅れたが、すぐに二の脚がついて番手から競馬。道中はリラックスして走れていたが、後続の動きが激しくどどどーっと押し寄せてくる展開。そのままの勢いで直線はいったんは抜け出しにかかったが、直線300ｍくらいでいっぱいになってしまい5着という結果。スタートのリカバリーはセンスの良さを感じたし、直線の粘りは褒められるもの人気はなかったが既走馬相手にこれだけやれれば御の字だろう。次走、更なる前進を期待する。 2023年芝（7-5-2-3-3-32）52 ダ（3-8-4-7-6-16）44 障害（0-0-0-0-0-0）0 合計（10-13-6-10-9-48）96 TOTAL 芝（107-81-75-74-76-543）956 ダ（93-116-87-95-105-618）1114 障害（6-3-5-4-2-20）40 合計（206-200-167-173-183-1181）2110

Na een lichte verruiming in het derde kwartaal werd de arbeidsmarkt in het vierde kwartaal van 2022 weer iets krapper. Er waren 13 duizend werklozen minder dan een kwartaal eerder. Ook het aantal openstaande vacatures liep terug, maar minder hard. Tegenover elke 100 werklozen stonden 123 vacatures. Het aantal banen groeide nog steeds, en wel met 85 duizend. Na een afname in het derde kwartaal nam ook het aantal werknemers met een flexibele arbeidsrelatie in het vierde kwartaal weer toe. Dit blijkt uit de nieuwste arbeidsmarktcijfers van het CBS. Eind december stonden er 442 duizend vacatures open, 7 duizend minder dan aan het einde van het derde kwartaal. Dit is de tweede achtereenvolgende daling na een periode van acht kwartalen waarin het aantal vacatures bleef toenemen. Net als in voorgaande kwartalen stonden de meeste vacatures open in de handel (89 duizend), de zakelijke dienstverlening (73 duizend) en de zorg (64 duizend). Gezamenlijk zijn deze drie bedrijfstakken goed voor de helft van alle openstaande vacatures. Grootste afname in de informatie en communicatie en in de zorg Ondanks de afname van het totaal nam het aantal vacatures in de meeste bedrijfstakken licht toe. In de informatie en communicatie zette de krimp van het vorige kwartaal door. Samen met de zorg was daar de afname het grootst, namelijk 4 duizend. In het derde kwartaal was de zorg nog een van de weinige bedrijfstakken waar het aantal vacatures wel toenam. In de horeca, waar het aantal vacatures al twee kwartalen afnam, groeide het aantal vacatures met 1 duizend naar 37 duizend. In de industrie nam het aantal vacatures ook met 1 duizend toe, tot 35 duizend. Weer minder nieuwe vacatures In het vierde kwartaal ontstonden 371 duizend nieuwe vacatures, 3 duizend minder dan in het derde kwartaal. Er werden 378 duizend vacatures vervuld (inclusief vervallen vacatures), in het derde kwartaal waren dat er nog 391 duizend. Vacaturegraad neemt af De vacaturegraad, het aantal openstaande vacatures per duizend banen van werknemers, daalde in het vierde kwartaal van 51 naar 47. Het hoogst is de vacaturegraad in de kleine bedrijfstak delfstoffenwinning (73), de bouw (69) en de informatie en communicatie (69). Het laagst is de vacaturegraad in het onderwijs, namelijk 21 vacatures per duizend banen. Aantal banen verder gestegen Het aantal banen nam in het vierde kwartaal wel toe. Met een groei van 85 duizend kwam het totaal aantal banen van werknemers en zelfstandigen op 11 545 duizend (+0,7 procent). Over heel 2022 zijn er 441 duizend banen bij gekomen. In ruim twee jaar tijd (vanaf het derde kwartaal van 2020) is het aantal banen met 956 duizend toegenomen. In deze cijfers zijn alle banen meegeteld, voltijd en deeltijd. Toename bij zowel banen werknemers als zelfstandigen Het aantal werknemersbanen steeg met 46 duizend, een toename van 0,5 procent. Het totaal aantal werknemersbanen kwam daarmee uit op 8 953 duizend. Het aantal banen van zelfstandigen nam toe met 40 duizend (1,6 procent) naar 2 593 duizend. Ruim 1 op de 5 banen is een zelfstandigenbaan. Grootste stijging aantal banen in zakelijke dienstverlening In de zakelijke dienstverlening exclusief de uitzendbureaus kwamen er 21 duizend banen bij in het vierde kwartaal, een stijging van 1,2 procent. Andere bedrijfstakken met een relatief grote banengroei waren handel, vervoer en horeca (15 duizend), zorg (8 duizend) en informatie en communicatie (7 duizend). In geen enkele bedrijfstak daalde het aantal banen. Meer banen bij uitzendbureaus Bij de uitzendbureaus waren er in het vierde kwartaal 8 duizend banen meer dan in het voorgaande kwartaal, een toename van 1,0 procent. In het derde kwartaal daalde het aantal banen in de uitzendbranche nog met 15 duizend (-1,9 procent). Stijging van het aantal gewerkte uren Werknemers en zelfstandigen werkten in het vierde kwartaal van 2022 in totaal ruim 3,6 miljard uur. Dat is, gecorrigeerd voor seizoensinvloeden, 1,2 procent meer dan een kwartaal eerder. Meer werknemers met een flexibele arbeidsrelatie In het vierde kwartaal van 2022 waren er 2,7 miljoen werknemers met een flexibele arbeidsrelatie. Dat zijn er 43 duizend meer dan een kwartaal eerder. Na een daling in het derde kwartaal is daarmee het aantal flexwerknemers weer toegenomen. Het aantal werknemers met een vaste arbeidsrelatie nam in het vierde kwartaal ook toe, en wel met 43 duizend naar 5,4 miljoen. Het aantal zelfstandigen groeide met 17 duizend, en kwam uit op 1,6 miljoen. Deze toename betrof alleen de zelfstandigen zonder personeel (zzp’ers) . Werkloosheid gedaald De werkloosheid daalde weer na een stijging in het derde kwartaal van 2022. Het aantal werklozen nam ten opzichte van het derde kwartaal af met 13 duizend naar 359 duizend. Dat is 3,6 procent van de beroepsbevolking. In het derde kwartaal was dat 3,7 procent. Het gaat bij werklozen om mensen die geen betaald werk hebben, maar daar wel recent naar hebben gezocht en op korte termijn beschikbaar zijn. De werkloosheid nam bij jongeren af naar 7,7 procent en bij 25- tot 45-jarigen en 45- tot 75-jarigen naar respectievelijk 2,9 en 2,5 procent. Minder baanverlies in het vierde kwartaal De daling van de werkloosheid in het vierde kwartaal van 2022 is het resultaat van onderliggende stromen tussen de werkzame, de werkloze en de niet-beroepsbevolking. Het onderstaande schema laat die stromen zien. Aan de ene kant daalde de werkloosheid doordat meer werklozen werk vonden dan er werkenden werkloos raakten. Hierdoor daalde de werkloosheid in het afgelopen kwartaal met 41 duizend. Aan de andere kant werd deze daling van de werkloosheid gedempt doordat het aantal mensen dat zonder direct resultaat op zoek ging naar werk (van niet-beroepsbevolking naar werkloos) groter was dan het aantal mensen dat stopte met zoeken en/of niet beschikbaar was (van werkloos naar niet-beroepsbevolking). Per saldo was er daardoor in het vierde kwartaal een toestroom van 29 duizend werklozen vanuit de niet-beroepsbevolking. Dat resulteerde in het vierde kwartaal in een daling van het aantal werklozen met 13 duizend. Aantal langdurig werklozen verder afgenomen Het aantal langdurig werklozen, degenen die al een jaar of langer op zoek zijn naar werk, bedroeg 67 duizend in het vierde kwartaal van 2022. Een kwartaal eerder waren dat er 73 duizend. Hiermee is de langdurige werkloosheid na 2020 vrijwel voortdurend gedaald. Het aantal werklozen die korter dan een jaar zonder werk zitten nam in het vierde kwartaal ook af van 299 duizend naar 292 duizend. Het percentage van alle werklozen die een jaar of langer op zoek zijn naar werk daalde hiermee naar 19. Onbenut arbeidspotentieel vrijwel gelijk gebleven De werkloosheidscijfers omvatten niet alle mensen zonder werk die recent naar werk hebben gezocht of die direct zouden kunnen beginnen. Bovendien blijven deeltijdwerkers die meer uren willen werken buiten beschouwing. Het CBS brengt de omvang en samenstelling van deze deelgroepen van het zogenoemde onbenut arbeidspotentieel in kaart. In het vierde kwartaal van 2022 bestond het onbenut arbeidspotentieel uit 1,2 miljoen mensen, 3 duizend meer dan een kwartaal eerder. Het onbenut arbeidspotentieel bestaat uit vier deelgroepen. Het ging in het vierde kwartaal naast 359 duizend werklozen om 198 duizend mensen die direct beschikbaar waren voor werk, maar niet recent hebben gezocht, en om 107 duizend mensen die niet beschikbaar waren, maar wel hebben gezocht. Deze twee groepen worden ook wel semiwerklozen genoemd. De vierde groep bestaat uit 527 duizend onderbenutte deeltijdwerkers. In tegenstelling tot de andere groepen hebben zij wél betaald werk. Zij geven aan in deeltijd te werken, meer uren te willen werken en hier ook direct beschikbaar voor te zijn. Ten opzichte van het derde kwartaal van 2022 namen het aantal personen dat direct beschikbaar is voor werk, maar niet heeft gezocht (+10 duizend) en het aantal onderbenutte deeltijdwerkers (+6 duizend) toe in het vierde kwartaal. Het aantal werklozen nam daarentegen af met 13 duizend, en het aantal personen dat gezocht heeft naar werk, maar hiervoor niet direct beschikbaar was bleef gelijk.
