freshly new follower here. the only reason i still keep the "based on your likes!" setting thingy turned on is because it shows me blogs like yours. i dont even do embroidery, neither do i frequent uhh, embroiblr ?. but i enjoyed scrolling through your blog immensely. thank you. it must be meticulous work to stitch (sew?) all those tiny letters onto the fabric and you make it look so easy. !
Thank you so much and welcome to the blog! No worries, it's pretty common to just be into viewing the end result that embroidery artists post without doing it yourself. At the end of the day sharing it online is to share a visual art for others to look at and enjoy.
It's precise work to do the lettering I do, the same kinda way it's precise to do inking on a sketch vs how you'd approach filling in those lines with color. I happen to really like linework so it's something I've worked hard at to render smoothly and precisely!

do you have any tips on filling in large areas w embroidery— what stitches to use and also how to avoid gaps? because i normally use satin stitch but i can kinda see the fabric behind poking thru aha
I really love long and short stitch, it's my favorite filling stitch. Satin stitch is tricky to not twist up and getting the exact placement to not gap, plus for larger areas (more than an inch or two, depending on the ground fabric) it sags and can have more trouble holding tension of the thread.
Chain stitch is also a nice filling stitch and is associated with western USA rodeo fashion - though traditionally those are not worked by hand but on a free motion machine that makes a chain stitch! It's still a fun look and easy to emulate the vibes by hand, it just takes longer than free motion would.
EDIT: Stitching denser can help avoid gapping. But you need to make sure your fabric can stand up to that - most of my heavy fill work for my nicer embroidery is done on canvas that has literally made fabric store cutting counter employees balk and try to steer me to easier to stitch on options - to which my reply is to swing my tote bag (heavily stitched on) onto the counter and let them know I'm good but thanks for the heads up.
For avoiding gaps just kinda overlap your stitches a little bit and it'll resolve itself into a nice even surface. You get a feel for it.

I'm doing a lot of paperwork today instead of embroidery so if anyone wants to send in asks (about my embroidery work or questions about how to learn/do different things, or whatever else) feel free because man I would rather be doing my next project here for this blog

Your avatar is AMAZING, have you ever considered embroidering the Default Header too? 👀
Hey there, thanks for that! I have not considered embroidering a default header because it would be kinda an unwieldly amount of effort with less of a silly payoff than the icon. I have a couple other possible headers planned though! I'm trying to balance out when I want to do them with my overall posting schedule here.

Omg! I love all of your work. I do machine embroidery but this is on another level of awesome. Fabulous!
Thank you!! Machine embroidery is still cool as hell, I'm very familiar with digitizing and the design steps for that through friends of mine. It's a pretty steep learning curve so congrats for being able to navigate that.

I was considering embroidering a message about this after having been blocking bigotry from my follower list since I started this blog, but it would be in incredibly poor taste if I did that, especially given today's horrific events.
Free Palestine.
To make this about embroidery, here's a beginner's overview about tatreez, a traditional Palestinian embroidery technique. At the bottom of the page are links to purchase embroidered works and support women who are being persecuted. I also recommend reading into Maki Yamamoto's Palestinian Embroidery Obi Project, which combines Palestinian embroidery and aesthetics with Japanese kimono.

This is one of the more ambitious pieces I've done for a bit, and I did it on an absurd deadline, but my trans dragon back patch is done! The project ended up taking 130 hours of working time to finish, using two strands of cotton floss for both fills and outlines. The base pattern was from my own collection and was originally from 1936.

alternatively, my friends insist I do witchcraft, but I can't say if that's easier than incessant practice since it's not the path I ended up taking, their protesting be damned
