Tell me a fun Bill and Ted fact? I know nothing about them really
Bill and Ted is such a fascinating franchise to me bc it's Super Obvious that a majority of people's awareness of it begins and ends with the first movie - Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure - and yet there is so much to uncover about these dudes. There are three films, one novelization, like 7 comic series, a cartoon that ran for 2 seasons, a musical, a live action show that ran for 7 (bad) episodes, like 3 video games, and a pretty longstanding run as a Halloween Horror Nights show.
They're also extremely fun characters because there's like, such a prevalent tendency to generalize their character types, but they're actually Super specific personalities. Like, Bill and Ted don't ever use the words 'rad' or 'bro' nor any 'surfer lingo' or 'valley speak', they're not ever sarcastic/ironic they're like Painfully earnest constantly (the writers even specified that Bill and Ted are "these innocents who would wander wide-eyed into any situation and treat everyone exactly the same - completely open, completely friendly" and the Director also refers to the 'Puppy Factor' wrt Bill and Ted, meaning they should both "Be like big Labrador Retrievers who just bounce along and love life",) they Do use the word 'dude' nigh constantly BUT people always underestimate how often they'll use each other's names equally as often, and also they're really not slackers or deliberately dismissive of schooling/education - they are trying really hard, they just genuinely struggle/can't learn things right (you can tell they even kind of Value it because they do make an effort to use like, Expanded Vocabulary, it's just that they don't always fully understand the words so they'll use them wrong on accident) - i just love them so much

Amber: [burps loudly]
Devo: Okay.
Amber: Damn!
Devo: Oh.
Amber: Did you try this?
Devo: Well, no, you— you drank—
Amber: It’s— hey, no, shhh— listen. Shh. It’s Skunknuts.
Devo: This is very exciting, even—
Amber: You gotta get you some—
Devo: Even—
Amber: You gotta get you some.
Justin: She’s done with one, so she’s got three in one hand, so she’s done with one, and she just set in on the floor and walked three feet away from it.
Griffin: [laughs]
Justin: [laughing] So now she’s working on her second.
Amber: Here, here, here, here here here. Now I’m being greedy. Here.
Justin: And she slides one to Devo.
Amber: Are you allowed to do this?
Devo: What, drink?
Amber: With your religion, and stuff?
Devo: I’m not in the religion anymore, so.
Amber: Nice. Nice. Nice. Way— find your own way, man!
Justin: [struggling through laughing] And Amber walks away.

hiiii lights camera sing your sins ask, sorry if these are lengthy or tedious to answer aughghgng
for backdraft, did they get an Es look-a-like for their cameo at the end? also, i was wondering how (or if) undercover was filmed + recorded. was it something es did prior to the memory wipe?
Ghgngjgkg I haven’t been normal ever since I read it i love the fic sooo so much thank you for writing !!!!!!!
Hello!!! Omg not at all, I love thinking about the story, and it makes me so happy others are as excited about the ideas! Thank you so much for sending :D
Yes, I did picture it to be look-alike/stunt double! It makes sense why it’s such a short moment and you can’t see their face -- while a double wouldn’t be a big deal in most projects, Jackalope is very worried that Es will catch on when they watch the videos and see someone clearly Not Them onscreen. That's why he keeps their mv appearances to a minimum, denying a few of the others’ requests to feature Es in their own. (I was really expecting them to pop up in Triage or Purge March given the themes, so it’s fun to imagine this is the reason why they don’t.)
And yup, I pictured Undercover being filmed at the very beginning, before they forget everything! Everyone recorded their parts separately, so unfortunately they still never met the prisoners. (Even though their memory was going to be wiped, Milgram needed the data on the prisoner’s natural reactions to meeting each other/Es for the first time.) Es still gets to have the same fun of singing and filming, though! Taking various murder-victim-pose photos was certainly an interesting experience, but overall they had a good time :)
For canon, I always liked the theory that Undercover is from Es testing out the mv machine, so in the au I like to believe they're told the same thing. They get to watch it after their memory is wiped -- they're so amazed by seeing themselves, it convinces them that the machine is the real deal after all.
And a super quick Deep Cover mention 👀
I think there’s a high chance of the whole cast appearing in the new mv, (I'm hoping even more prominently than the Backdraft silhouettes) which will be a ton of fun for the au!! It may be a bit harder to swing the “mysterious look-alike” thing depending on how a big a part Es plays, but I’ll make it work when we get there 😅

"skipping slughorn's diner again, aren't we?" marlene asked, leaning against the wall and pulling out a cigarette from the pocket of her pants.
"you followed me, though, didn't you?" meadowes noticed, nodding to her. "so, really, you're skipping too, love. am i that interesting to you?"
marlene's cheeks tinted red. "stop that, meadowes," she muttered, putting the cigarette between her lips.
"stop what?" she asked, innocently, tugging at the rings on her fingers. "it's a mere observation; nothing more. do you find me so appealing that you're willing to leave your friend behind just so that you can see what i'm doing? slick, mckinnon, very subtle."
"fuck off," marlene huffed, stifling a laugh. "and don't flatter yourself."
"you're the one who followed someone you," meadowes air-quoted, "hated, outside, from the warmth in slughorn's office and into the cold of the hallway, with a cigarette between your lips you don't even have a lighter for." she reached out in her jacket, strolled over to marlene, and pulled out a lighter. "here." she flicked her thumb over, the only light in the corridor being marlene's cigarette.
their faces had been so close. marlene could notice the dark of meadowes' eyes, so dark it was almost black, the moles under meadowes' eyes, the curve of meadowes' lips and, for a moment, she wanted to lean forward and kiss her.
no, stop that.
"thanks," marlene rasped out. "i should— i should go back in. he doesn't mind, does he?" she asked, nodding towards her lit up cigarette.
meadowes shook her head and, with the corner of her eyes, marlene could see her grinning; her heart skipped a beat and, hoping that she hadn't gone red in the face, she stepped back inside, trying to ignore the butterflies in her stomach.

Alright so I just finished Earthspark and boy fucking howdy do I have opinions, but I’m not talking about those right now because I’m tired and the ending broke me in such a way I no longer care about anything.
What I would like to say though is I think Tanatulas should have been replaced with Shockwave in that on episode he had with Nightshade. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Tanatulas. He was literally so good, I loved his designs and his vibes and the only bad thing about him is that he never said his pronouns back. But really think about it. He didn’t have to be there. Earthspark spends too much time with the Maltos to really develop anyone so the more characters you add the more everything struggles.
Tanatulas showed up for one episode, he’s not even in the finale. Shockwave was there though and vaguely important, but it doesn’t make sense for him to just suddenly be okay with the Maltos. Unless he took Tanatulas role. Then his sudden willingness to help them would have made so much more sense. It also wouldn’t have been a very hard change, just as a whole, because neither Tanatulas or Shockwave are that important.
Just give Nightshade a line about how they should save Shockwave because they trust him and well everyone else acts the same.
Shockwave even fills a similar general role as Tanatulas being a weird scientist who care more about their science than the war. So it really wouldn’t be a hard switch and would make Shockwave make more sense. If you want to go further too Shockwave doesn’t even have a normal vehicle mode so he really could have given similar lines about alt modes to Nightshade.
Obviously Shockwave actual introduction episode would be different or maybe he’d just get replaced entirely but I really don’t think any of those changes would be too hard. Because again, he’s just not important enough for any changes to his character to be hard.
Tanatulas in Earthspark doesn’t validate his existence much as is. I really do love him, but he’s replaceable and just clutters an already poorly handled cast. While I think it would be cool if he was just more important they clearly didn’t want that by not even giving him a finale shot. So I do think just swapping his episode with Shockwave (and whatever other alterations are needed to make that perfect) fixes the problem with having too many underdeveloped characters since it removes one character and in the process developes another.
