wouldn't it be fun if every dragon age game let you end the game with your protagonist dead?

the world chews up it's heroes and leaves them broken! it kills them! let me kill my characters in thematic ways!! the series is about fighting back death. their religion is based on a woman who was brutally murdered. her murder cements her myth and religion, she is a martyr lost to her own myth, what she would have wanted can no longer be know and people use her words to justify the same horrors she fought to end just retextured, i want that!!

the warden was dead from the start! hawke is eaten whole by kirkwall and the prejudice that made their family flee it to begin with! nothing the inquisitor did mattered and now theyre just another body to prop up next to andraste to justify another person's ambitions!

this world will crush under it's heel anyone it can get it's hands on, but that doesn't make what they did pointless! the people of that world will remember what they did and pick up where they left off. and maybe they'll mess up along the way or it can be twisted, but it still meant something, they still mattered, at least until they don't.

and maybe a world where their suffering no longer matters to ruminate on is one they wanted, but no one can know for sure, bc they can't answer any more than andraste can, long since reduced to ashes on the pyre

wanna make my own kny httyd au

#httyd movies are good but. theyre kid plots yk?#not a bad thing but i wanna use the wolrdbuilding more. like cmon its fucking DRAGONS man #so far giyuu & tsutako live in a little seaside village that regularly gets raided by dragons mostly stealing their livestock (and anyone #caught in surprise undefended) one night hes out doing errands he forgot to do during the day (doesnt want to dissapoint tsutako)#and gets caught out in a raid. hes running for cover and comes across a juvenile dragon. hes scared shitless and frozen as it creeps closer #and closer until he can feel its hot breath sniffing at him. curious purple eyes stare into his own. a loud fireball explodes near them #and the dragon nudges him away from the carnage. tsutako sees a dragon near him and flips her shit. ready to die trying to keep #her baby brother alive. he screams at her to stop- shoving the dragon away as she screams for him to get away from it #dragon flees and tsutako drags him home stressed out her gourd but thankful hes alive.#later on hes out walking in the woods to get away from it all (the other kids dont like him very much) and comes across the dragon again #he ends up making friends with it and names it sabito ('rust' for his orange-red coloration & 'rabbit' for the little hops he does)#comes across all the little dragon quirks as he hangs out- meanwhile back in the village they need more warriors to fight off the dragons #giyuu gets forced into training for it despite his (& tsutako's) protests. time comes to training against actual dragons and he miraculousl #survives using his knowledge of quirks hes learned from sabito- it astonishes /everyone/ bc hes a wimpy little fuck #yadda yadda he accidentally becomes top student just trying to avoid actually hurting the dragons and gets assigned to kill the Big Bad One #they release the beast and it crawls around the top chain netting for a bit before it notices giyuu. it drops to the floor and slowly #advances towards him. giyuu intentionally drops his weapon & shield and steps towards it with big wet scared eyes. everyone's shocked and #tsutakos screaming for them to call it off. the dragon stops posturing and sniffs at him- lets him gently pet its nose. he quietly pleads #with it to go back into its cell as guards are hurrying to get into the arena with them. the dragon looks around at them & at the sky befor #looking back at giyuu's sad eyes promising theyll both be safer if it goes back in. it hesitantly does so and giyuu locks the doors back as #the guards get to him and drag him to the village leader's hall to get the scolding of his life #he tries to reason with them that the dragons arent bad but they hit back with 'so what are we supposed to do boy. starve as we let the #dragons take all of our food? grow up. /we cant live in harmony with them.'/#hes fucked up over it & everyone starts treating him as even more of an outcast than before.#one night while tsutako's doing dishes 'tako-nee?' quietly called out. 'what giyuu?' she doesnt even turn to glance at him.#she /always/ stops to give her full attention when he calls for her like that. his heart sinks to the floor. 'goodnight' barely keeping #the crack of his voice away. 'goodnight giyuu'#she awakes the next morning to no response. an empty house. she finds a red shirt of hers missing & a note #giyuu's neat writing shakey & slowly delving into a messy scrawl as it furthers along. one- two odd dried spots on the letters turned to #countless (/27/) blotches in the ink before it fully dried. 'im sorry' left pristine atop the worst of it at the very bottom.

And now for my weekly sunday complaint post about how much i hate hate hate christianity

(The church bells woke me up way too early, again)

Good morning, happy lack of sleep and high blood pressure, the christians are rhythmlessly banging metal for three!! entire!! minutes!! They have to make sure you cant go back to sleep because its their God Time.

And since they need to insert themselves into every facet and moment of your life, you are also having Their God Time now. Fuck you nobody gets to sleep on sunday this is europe, conform or be destroyed.

#im so sick of waking up cranky on sunday #but is swear the so called bells are ugly rhythmless clanging metal #and besides being ugly to hear and an imposition of their shitty religion on my life #it rips me out of sleep and i think something terrible is happening because it Does Not Sound like this cacophony is intentional #and my sleeping brain registers emergency of some sort #and i wake up tense and swearing and it takes an hour to get my heartbeat back to normal #seriously unpleasant but theres no way to complain bc the church is more powerful ghan the govt in thiis backwater excuse for a country #one more month in this hell #at least in scandinavia they arent quite so mideival about christianity #i cant take it anymore i hate those bells so mucb #i wonder if i can leave an anonymous complaint on their google maps listing #but asking them to not go fucking apeshit with the bells 3 times a day on sunday will probably be perveived as a hate crime #to these entitled babies living in this country #ggggrrrrr tldr im so fucking sick of high blood pressure first thing. i hate the church.#i wanna go back to bed but theyll be banging away again in like an hour #get me tf out of this mideival joke of a country i hate central europe so much

Today my sister came home from work, librarian on a college campus.

She gives me a gift of a trans flag lanyard.

It's something small, something that most people wouldnt ruminate on.

But I think back to my time at school.

We were required to wear ID lanyards, our names always on display.

I was a boy then. My name was open for everyone to see. It hurt seeing it every day. I so desperately wanted to throw it in the garbage, to snap it off and never look at it again.

I see the trans lanyard now and wonder if things couldve been different.

I never got the chance to be at the girl's parties, or join them in separate sports. I never did cheer. I was always alone and distant, aimless.

I made up my mind one day, I would wear a dress to senior prom, and come out, and finally be free. Within the week, covid hit the USA and I never stepped foot in that building again.

I missed out on so much. I think about how nice things could have been if I had just been open from the start. But I know it took a lot to get to that point. I wish I couldve known sooner. I wish I wasnt afraid. Now I'm just left living vicariously through reading fictions and coming up with stories of worlds that dont exist.

But now looking at this vinyl polyster strap in my hand, given out officially by a school, I see that more people like me wont have to be alone, that theyll be able to have those experiences that I couldnt. They can be whoever they want, with no judgement and no fear.

And god, that makes me so happy. Godspeed my trans siblings, make the most of every moment.

re:Durgetash childhood best friends… i think Durge would become like. a comfort item for gortash? like a child’s favorite stuffed animal or blanket. like, in his mind he had Durge, and everything was great (his childhood), then he lost them and everything went to shit (being sold to the house of hope, then escaping and being a minor crime lord in baldurs gate), then he found them again and everything started becoming good again (becoming the chosen of bane, making the steel watch, the absolute plan). then he loses them AGAIN and things start going to shit again (losing the astral prism, ketheric dying, orin fucking up her part of the plan).

it would be so easy for him to start associating durge with things in his life going right, and he becomes co-dependently attached to them, and probably them to him as well. and then they come back and hes still co-dependent and expecting them to be as well. of COURSE theyll come back to him and everything will fall into place just the way it always does, but they dont even remember him.. :(

ok but I am the world's biggest supporter of childhood friends durgetash, first off because it's plausible, but secondly, it's just got so much potential.

absolutely agree on the idea that they were glued at the hip as young children, and that whenever they were apart, Gortash would feel as if things were going horribly for him, and he'd associate them with his own happiness.

that just makes sense to me.

but then it becomes just.

horrible to consider that the dark urge doesn't feel the same way, because gortash might feel that they're associated with his own happiness.

but what happened when gortash "left" as in, was sold?

they killed their parents. they joined the cult of Bhaal. they abandoned childish things and embraced the darkness dwelling within. they'd forsake friendship and loyalty and love for anyone but bhaal.

he comes home, and he's happy to find them again, but they're cold now. they're not the same happy child he remembered. they're as haggard as he is, and they still have sparks of that innocent childhood friendship they both cherished once...but it's soured because they think he just left them one day, without saying goodbye.

once the true story comes out, they're a bit mollified, but it doesn't change the fact that when he was gone, they were vulnerable.

it happened, regardless of whether he intended for it or not. he left them alone.

and it's been too long for them to return to exactly what they were before.

but luckily, Gortash becomes involved with the cult of bane. and then they can work with him, under the guise of serving both their gods, and he thinks they're destined to rule together.

and maybe they begrudgingly try to believe him.

but then you know.

Orin kills them... while they're working with Gortash.

and whether you believe it was because of their relationship with Gortash or not, it happened while he was supposed to be there to watch their back.

and it's funny because it flips the script.

now Gortash thinks the dark urge just left HIM without a word one day, and that's when his plan unravels.

but like.

Gortash needs the dark urge for his own happiness and for his plan to work.

but the dark urge... they learned to live without him.

they might have associated Gortash leaving with the bad things in their life... but here and now, just before their triumph, when things were going well... it didn't matter whether or not Gortash was there.

they still died.

so I like the idea of Gortash believing the dark urge is his good luck charm, but the dark urge not feeling the same way.

they gave up on him long ago. they can't forgive him for "leaving." they grew, into a twisted, mangled adult while he stayed perpetually young and afraid in the house of hope, an abused child, deep down, no matter what he did.

they became something else, and that's why they were able to move on, to embrace redemption after they lost their memories. they had experience with growing and changing.

but Gortash?

he stayed behind.

and then he was left behind, permanently, when they returned to him a hero and slayer of all things evil.

NIKU KITTEN LORE

niku was at the cat cafe/adoption place because she was found with parents nowhere to be found hungry and small very very small (kinda like someone we know-) and so she knows what being alone is like and one day when she sees two people sit in and everyone else swarms one of the guys while the other is just. all alone and she doesn't like leaving people alone and for some reason she feels the need to go up to him so she breaks from the crowd and goes over on her little kitten paws and mewls , rubs her head against his knee "hi i'll be your friend" and when rinne sees her he cries

When Niki makes him leave her he tells her “I’ll come back for you” and she believes him and he visits her every now and then so she doesn’t forget him but she doesn’t really register what’s happening every time since she’s so small

Cat melodrama

It’s like 3 AM and there’s meowing in the living room and they think it’s just Niku with the zoomies but no she’s talking to a whole other cat

whole other cat is an alley cat that just passed by one day and saw her and Instantly fell in love and keeps trying to talk with her but Niku is having None of it

He keeps coming by and she eventually just warms up to him because he is. Kind of cute and very charming

the rizz is working

She saves some of her food for him sometimes ‘cause she learned to share food from her dad (Niki)

niki: niku why arent you finishing your food

niku: pacing around in front of the window, looking for other cat

Other cat comes by sometimes during the day when Rinne and Niki are out and other cat (she just calls him Nya-kun now ‘cause he doesn’t really have a name) offers to take her on a little city adventure since she doesn’t go out besides a small neighborhood area when Rinne and niki take her on walks

he takes her to his favorite spots and shows her so many things she has never seen and each place they stop at she falls a little more in love (nya-kun is already so in love he cant fall even more hes at full love)

He drops her off at home and she’s just so happy and purring and everything and good kitty things and Rinne and Niki have no idea why she’s like this but they can’t really complain

he comes by again and takes her out and it goes well at first but then they get into a fight with some other alley cats that does not go well; niku is okay and a little shaken but nya-kun is hurt and bleeding

She brings him back to the apartment and kinda tears some things and drawers apart looking for the first aid kit that she’s seen Rinne and Niki use and she’s trying her best to patch him up but Nya-kun’s sitting there thinking and kinda regretting everything ‘cause she got put in danger

nya~kun: i love her. I Love her. But I'm just an alley cat. she has a loving home, she doesn't belong out there. not on the streets. not with me. she's beautiful and everything ive ever dreamed of but i have to let her go.

niku panicking while trying to patch him up : nya-kun please stay my dads will help i dont know what to do but theyll know ! where are you going? theyll help you, i know they will!

Nya-kun says this isn’t gonna work out for them because she’s just not a street cat, it’s not safe for her out there and she should stay here, where she has a loving home and people who love her, and he thanks her for spending time with him and putting up with him and he leaves And Rinne and Niki come home like “Niku what the fuck happened you’ve never done this” ‘cause everything’s still a mess and she’s just sitting there

for the next few days she's so, so, sad at first she thinks he'll come by but he doesn't and doesn't the next day and doesn't the day after that or after that or after that but she still waits by the window with her food unfinished waiting for him and rinne and niki notice and are so worried because their baby is hurting and they have no idea why

In all her alone time she realizes that she had no say in his decision to leave her alone, and that it isn’t fair ‘cause he made the decision for her when she didn’t want it in the first place so she makes her own choice to go look for him A là “It’s my life I get to choose” Niki-style

so one day when she gets the confidence and niki and rinne are out at work she nudges the window open and jumps out and runs to every place she can remember him taking her , his fav spot by the pachinko, his fav place to take shelter in, etc, until she finds herself back in the same alley and face to face with the alley cats that had attacked them before. the alley cats recognize her and seeing that her companion isnt with her move to attack her for revenge because though he got hurt, he left a. number on them

Nya-kun jumps in at the last second and fights them off and he’s like “What are you doing here? You shouldn’t be here you don’t belong here!” (This is all in meows by the way) And Niku’s like “Even if I don’t belong here, you belong with me!” She can’t stand the thought of him fighting for his life while she’s just living comfy so she finally begs him to come home with her ‘cause

“Dad and dad will love you!!”

“How do you know that!?”

“Because I love you!!”

he's so absolutely speechless and starts sobbing (in meowspeak) and is like i love you but im just a street cat, and niku is like if you love me you will come home with me please and nya-kun FINALLY finally breaks down and moves forward slightly closes his eyes touches his nose to her's and gives out a breathless "okay"(meow) and she takes him home and they slip in through the window and sit in the living room cuddled up together waiting for her dads to come home

Anyways yeah that’s how they got the second cat (Rinne and Niki have no idea any of this happened btw [time period unspecified]) and Nya-kun is now called Rinnya-kun but Niku still calls him Nya-kun

and theyre still in love

another thing about niku being so tiny when she was at the cafe is that she doesn’t remember the one other friend she had at the cat cafe that was a tiny orange cat who ran away

that tiny cat was her only friend but he hated being in the cafe and ran away and she barely remembers anything but only knows she felt comfortable in that short time and for some reason the tall red haired guy reminded her of that cat

when the entire B plot ends up being more emotionally charged than the main plot

This entire thing is literally just Rinnya meeting his in-laws

and falling in love with he kitty wife

All cat dialogue is just meows with subtitles

“How do you know that!?” “Because I love you!!”

"Meow meow meow meow meoww?!" "Miaou miao mewl MIAOUW"

Imagine being someone walking by on the street like “what the hell is goin on over there”

Also Rinne and Niki have no idea ANY of this happened

MISC

Rinnya has a scar from that first fight since he left and didn’t let it heal properly and whenever Niki’s petting him he’s like “man where’d you get this scar from buddy”

niku takes time to lick it gently everytime they r cuddling. to show that she is thankful 4 him everyday and loves him so much

Licks are the kitty equivalent of kisses (which Rinne is. Still constantly shaming him for) but nose touches are way more personal for them

man literally went thru hell for her he deserves to be a slut (saved her life)

Rinnya: What the hell is a marriage is why is there no kissing before it, what is a “wife” Niku: I dunno, but dad calls dad his wife so I guess that means someone you just really really love a lot

Rinnya: I suppose you’re my wife then

niku: i guess i am~

niki: rinne-kun why are you slutshaming the cat again

rinne: u dont understand niki they are breaking the sanctity of marriage

niki: rinne-kun. they're cats. they dont understand the concept of marriage

rinne:

niki:. rinne-kun. they literally have CHILDREN

rinne:

niki: (sighs) will it make you happier if we throw them a mini ceremony? ill call kazehaya-kun

rinne: NO they are not marrying before us

Thinking about ants again and how my version of piglin are very inspired by army ants because they are fucking horrifying if you really think about it.

Ant facts that tie in with piglin lore rambles below cut!

First thing is that army ants are nomadic. They don't form traditional nests and instead live in 2 phases. The first is their 'raiding' phase where they go on a warpath to kill everything around them. That includes other ant nests.

They do this because their colonies are so big that staying in one space just isnt sustainable. They can't feed the colony because things run from them. So they have to move and actively hunt, sending out scout parties to report back on where more food is.

They literally just walk in a line and rip apart prey. Even if something is inedible to them due to their mandible shape, theyll still kill it. They just won't harvest it. Like they literally just leave it there because its useless to them.

Depending on the species their prey consists of a bunch of things. Some go up into trees to get at bird eggs. Most stick to the floor though thank god.

This has caused them to have a relationship with a specific species of bird, the antbird. Here's the thing though. Its parasitic.

The birds will hunt and kill whatever is fleeing from the raid (which actually lowers the ants foraging success) and causes the ants to hide their prey. Its also thought that this causes the development of army ant colonies to lessen and thus give the colonies they prey on a bit of a chance.

You can probably see where this is going but just for readability reasons, let me explain the other phase that they have.

This one is their stationary phase. In this one they form a living nest with their bodies (a bivouac) where they keep the queen, food, eggs and everything else hidden away in little tunnels.

Soldiers rise to the surface if there's any threat and in general its just a horrifying thought. But it gets worse. The reason they do this is so their brood can finally hatch and grow and so that the queen can lay more eggs.

Seeing as she can lay millions of eggs a month, this stage lasts for a few weeks. If / when the colony gets too big, they follow a new queen (one of her daughters) and just split to form a new colony. Queens can live up to 20 years so you can imagine how much they do this.

Anyway now I can finally get into the minecraft dynamics of things.

Piglin have large sounders and have to be generally nomadic so that they can sustain their large populations. They only really settle down into strongholds to let their kids grow up a bit before just continuing their warpaths.

This hyper aggressive behaviour obviously drove them to hunt pigmen to exctinction. After such a large prey source dropped, their sounders have to be smaller in size but in general theyre still thriving.

More players entering the nether however is causing another boom since they can very much be hunted. I like to think that wearing hold is like an old wivestale. It only kinda works.

They only avoid you because if you have gold then there's a chance that you're armed and will be too much effort for little reward. If the hunting party is big enough though then you're fucked.

Whether they eat you or not would depend on where the sounder is from / what their taste is more inclined to. Some sounders will prefer striders over a player any day, I like to think its ones like that (ones that won't jump to eat you) are the ones that trade with you.

Anyway lets get to the bird relationship with them. I think specifically that they would be elytrian and not avians. This is because (for me) I think that avian are a more docile, omniverous version of elytrian.

They live in the overworld, they have an abundance of food, everythings pretty decent. They didn't need to evolve to be predatory / opportunistic like elytrian do.

So I think that they (elytrian) are a species that came from the end. They probably got kicked out when the dragon got sealed away and have developed lots of different behaviours to adapt to this.

One of them is probably portal jumping and after the rise of piglin as a more dominant species, it has become a way more lucrative way to scavenge.

They'll circle over raids, picking off straggelers or whatever the piglin leave behind and in return they will lead / guide the raid onto other prey rich environments.

This is a less parasitic version though I think it'd be up to the individual elytrian. I think some of them are purely parasitic scavengers while others would rather guide the piglin in exchange for better prey / some protection.

For me this is how BFOB Techno ended up in Phils hands. Phil was being a scavenger and saw that in a sounder split, one little shote had slipped through the cracks and was left.

He swooped down and checked him out a little before getting very very attached when Techno probably tried to kill him. All he had to do was pull on a few instincts and soon after Techno imprinted on him and accepted him as sounder.

I like to think that him staying in the nether so long as a kid though was enough for him to have the same habits as the rest of his species.

Like yes Phil took him to the overworld but he's still a piglin from the nether. He has the instinct to go on raids and to travel so that he can scout out closer food to hunt.

Oh speaking of, the hunting dynamic definitely changes in smaller sounders. They chase prey to exhaustion rather than overwhelm with numbers like larger raids would.

I think he gets a better grasp on his instincts after a while so his 'raids' mostly consist of him terrorising a local forest and just wiping out the eco system. Brings Phil back all kinds of different animals and meat for him to preserve or cook.

When he's old enough he just goes off to hunt a hoglin since thats big enough quarry to satisfy his 'bring food back to dad' instincts. Its sorta mentioned in Backyard Full of Bones (Techno bringing back food) but I wanted to ramble about it more.
