currently reading: I started The Trial by Franz Kafka but left it back home so I’m reading Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk now. It’s brilliant, the man has a really unique voice and an incredibly captivating style.

currently watching: The Last of Us like the rest of the world, the Law and Orders (SVU, Organized Crime & the Original), Criminal Minds: Evolution (hate to say it, but its only saving grace is Zach Gilford; the man exhudes talent), Servant (they are wasting Toby Kebbell’s talent), Hudson & Rex, 9-1-1 Lone Star, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (catching up from 2018 and realizing every single bad thing that could’ve happened in the world actually happened lol) and Dickinson for TV. I also fell into a youtube hole and watched a shitload of Binging With Babish (and Anime with Alvin) and Uncle Roger videos.

Excellent quote pull! Do love some Babish now and again. As a quick refresh Izzy is allergic to (in order of severity): peanuts, soy, eggs and stone fruit. While olives can be considered in the family of stone fruits, they wouldn't trigger his allergies most likely. And he loves salt and vinegar (Lucius would argue that's also most of his personality) so I'd say he'd be all over them.

I imagine Stede has brought a charcuterie board or two to the Revenge and he definitely loads it with grapes, nuts, very expensive meats and also very cheap ones because some of the staff just really love supermarket pepperoni, a wide range of cheeses, and at least three kinds of crackers. No matter how bit it is, it's always decimated by the end of the night which he takes as a very high compliment as it's the closest he gets to cooking.

Favorite Jed Bartlet quote is probably his butchering of Zola, "J'accuse, mon petit fromage!" Either that, or his "The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight" speech.

And you're not alone, Abbey Bartlet is a fabulous woman- I feel like she was Sorkin's answer to Hillary Clinton, except (tragically) more appealing to the citizens audience. You see it in her frustration to do more during her husband's presidency but she's limited by a variety of circumstances. I think her scenes with White House Counsel Oliver Babish during the MS scandal was one of the best dialogue-driven bits of the series just because of the sheer antagonism and suppressed rage of it all.

this is such a petty hill to die on but i literally hate jokes about "the long blog post before the recipe where they tell you their whole life story" . first of all, youre getting a free recipe, i think you can manage a little scrolling. second of all, in my experience, the long blog post is more of a description of the recipe testing process, and an explanation of the food science behind various decisions made in the recipe. which is useful, because you learn more about food and cooking by reading it than just by exactly following the recipe, and you can then adjust the recipe based on your own tastes (ex: i used olive oil because i wanted it to be more x, but you can use butter if you want it to be more y, the conversion is z, OR i used [vegetable] because it's in season, but you could substitute a different vegetable as long as it won't wilt under high heat.) third of all, even if it is a long personal story, the bloggers do that because they want (god forbid) to make money off the ads on their blog, and usually because they want to promote their cookbook. ALL OF WHICH is exactly what most food youtubers do (explain the logic behind their descisions, promote a cookbook, extend the video with personal anecdotes in order to entertain/do more ad breaks), but nobody bats an eye when its babish!!!

As much as I don't like Oliver Babish as a character, Abby's incredulous "What the hell kind of dates are you going on, Oliver?" during the "Nature will break your ankle, also like a woman" conversation will never not be funny to me.
