The invention that revolutionized communication forever, this device brought people closer together and made the world feel smaller. It's amazing how far we've come!

“Mr. Watson – come here. I want to see you.” These are the famous first words that were spoken over a telephone line when Alexander Graham Bell made the first call to his assistant in 1867.

And that was the beginning of National Telephone Day!

History of National Telephone Day

Since its invention, the telephone has grown in popularity and use as a technology that has paved the way for such important communication that now happens every day, every moment, all throughout the globe. With billions of mobile phones in people’s pockets and landlines in many homes, the world is a connected place thanks to the invention of the telephone more than 150 years ago.

While Alexander Graham Bell already has his own day on March 7, National Telephone Day is here to show appreciation for the creativity and ingenuity shown by not only Bell, but also so many of his contemporaries. It’s a time to pay respect and honor to so many inventors who never stop pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world!

How to Celebrate National Telephone Day

Pay respect and honor to the inventors of the past and the future on National Telephone Day. Consider some of these ideas for observing the day:

Make a Telephone Call

With texting and email as popular forms of communication, the telephone call may have taken a backseat in recent years. However, perhaps National Telephone Day would be a great time to step back in time and make a telephone call, just for the sake of nostalgia!

Encourage Young Scientists

Alexander Graham Bell was encouraged by his family to be creative and curious about the world. It’s likely this support and his access to education that allowed for the invention of the telephone at that time. In the same way, access to education in today’s world is critical for young students who might grow up to be the inventors, scientists, mathematicians and engineers of the future.

Whether volunteering as a tutor at a nearby school, supporting the local education system in the community, or providing money for a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) student who needs help paying for college, supporting future inventors is a great way to celebrate National Telephone Day!

Learn About Inventors

Get educated on some of those scientists who have been critical in scientific and technological advances in the past for National Telephone Day. Look up some of these folks online and learn a bit more about them:

Josephine Cochrane(1839-1913), inventor of the mechanical dishwasher.

had a crazy dream i forgot to share with you guys. basically i was on a tour bus with my band (im not in a band) and we stop at this hotel where i’m meeting up with zendaya who is my best friend and is in crisis because she’s pregnant and hiding it

It’s funny - not haha funny but like makes you think funny - that if we take the holy trinity of my childhood heroes, those being Professor Hershel Layton, Attorney Phoenix Wright, and … door to door salesman (?) Kyle Hyde, and if something happened, how I would react to their reacting. If I was with Kyle, I would feel like he has no time for nonsense but will keep me safe as long as I do what he says. If I was with Phoenix, I would feel like oh my god, I have to be the adult in this situation, I have to keep him safe instead, and if I was with Layton… I would just break down crying because I would feel so safe and so comforted and I would know that I am in such good hands.

okay spoilers for unauthorized fan treatise but i was CONVINCED that gottie was lying about her age for most it. her checking into a motel set off my alarm bells and had me frothing for a reveal that she was actually in her forties.

#in retrospect i realized this tracks with some other tiny british mistakes for a story set in the us #which isn't a critique because most of them were tiny niche things #super niche knowledge about being a 17 year old in the us #mostly stuff to do with gottie's school and then renting the hotel room #anyway not even a real issue because i was still taken on a JOURNEY #im still rotating gottie in my mind #i will be purchasing this book when it comes out it's so good everyone read it #AND IT'S FREE #i thought she was the other livejournal fan the older one!!!

I’m out of town for a couple of days for my brother’s chess tournament and the internet in this hotel sucks butts and I only brought one book with me 😓

debating whether to make this character in my film a young guy, therefore making the main couple an explicitly gay one with a dynamic rarely seen in mlm media, or a young woman, making the main couple het BUT giving ppl a woman character who is actually interesting and gets to fill a role in the couple dynamic that women almost never get to see themselves in

why am i randomly thinking about places

#i know its because of a video i saw but. thinking so much now #.txt #my memories tend to focus on the ppl but the places are important. they are loved too. and yet i dont really think about them independently #like. my grandparents house. the kitchen with the orange blind that terrorided me as a kid (no idea why) and the attic and the bathroom #and the rooms where we played as kids. my best friend's house that i saw change with the years. my childhood best friend's house above her #parent's takeaway food place and the motorcycle in the living room and her older sister's bedroom with walls covered in writings from her #friends. the hotel in rome with the tiny ass shower and its curtain that sticks to you and the small old lift. my doctor's office that has #been the same since i was a baby. my ex's old room with their bed and plushes and stuff on the wall. the hospital room i stayed at after my #top surgery. anyway.
