Doctor Cha (2023)
Tumblr media
I got a fever, and the only prescription is more melodramas!
I usually hate love triangles, but it wasn’t so bad with this show. I think it helped that the entire premise was so unbelievable that I was able to just sit back and embrace the chaos.
What Worked
The show did a great job at letting you know what you were in for right from the first episode—an over the top, unrealistic situation with fun characters. The entire plot was building towards this dramatic train wreck where the protagonist (who was almost too good to be true) hit the final straw, and gave the terrible husband and mother-in-law exactly what they deserved. And that whole part of the story was completely engrossing.
What Didn’t Work
The writers didn’t bungle the ending, I still liked it, but I think they played it a little safe. All of the messed up relationships that were causing the delicious drama wrapped up on mostly good terms. That’s a nice story in a way, but I don’t think it was as cathartic.
Still, it’s a better story than real life, where men like the cheating husband often end up prospering, without really learning their lesson.
The Performances
Uhm Jung-hwa as “Doctor Mom” Cha Jeong-suk. I first saw this actress in “Our Blues” and I really liked her in that. Though the writing in this show isn’t quite as good, her performance in this show was just as good and even better in some respects. Really fun to watch this actress at work.
Kim Byung-chul as “Dirty Cheating Doctor” Seo In-ho. His character was supposed to be both pathetic and hate-able and the actor hit the brief very well. A lot of the charm in this show was watching him get his just desserts and suffer, while still being an unrepentant jerk.
It’s not exactly hate watching when the show clearly wants you to hate him. The fact that I never got tired of watching him, shows just how good his acting was.
Myung Se-bin as “Lady Cheating Doctor” Choi Seung-hee. This actor had a tough job to do. The writers kept shifting her motivation and relationships around and overall she did a good job making it work. I think her best scenes were with Eun-Seo, but she was still okay to watch overall.
Min Woo-hyuk as “The Good Doctor” Roy Kim. I enjoyed his performance. It was fun watching him go in and ruffle everyone’s feathers by being a good guy who doesn’t take anyone’s nonsense. I think his arc mostly peaked early though and he was less interesting towards the end of the series.
Song Ji-ho as “Doctor Son” Seo Jung-min. He had some great comic moments and I enjoyed watching his relationship with the girlfriend. It did take some time for him to really get interesting, though.
Jo Ah-ram as “Doctor Girlfriend” Jeon So-ra. I loved this character. I really enjoyed her relationships with both Jeong-suk and Jung-min.
Baek Joo-hee as “Doctor Bestie” Baek Mi-hee. A good example of how a good actor can make even a side character interesting. I especially liked the episode where she helped Yi-rang after she got in a fight.
Park Joon-geum as “The Worst Mother-in-Law” Kwak Ae-sim. I really disliked this character. Which means she did a good job because that was exactly what I was supposed to feel.
Kim Mi-kyung as “The Best Omma” Oh Deok-rye. She’s played a role like this so many times and yet I never get tired of seeing her because she still keeps it from being boring or repetitive. A national treasure.
Lee Seo-yeon as “The Good Daughter” Seo Yi-rang. She did a good job with the role she was given and had some great moments, but there were times when she disappeared in a scene. Pretty good overall though.
So A-rin as “The Best Daughter” Choi Eun-seo. They played it like she was some kind of emotionally unstable child in the first few episodes, which was unfortunate because the character was actually one of the most interesting and honest characters in the show. And she was mistreated by everyone.
The show was at its best when they let this actor loose, and I was really impressed by her performance.
Everyone Else. The show did have a few good moments for its minor characters, but most of the time they weren’t memorable or doing anything important.
TL; DR:
This is a show made for people who like melodramas. If you’re able to turn off the nitpicking part of your brain and enjoy the ride, it’s pretty dang fun.

<BIG MOUTH> ARTICLE TODAY‼️
#BigMouth #빅마우스 #LeeJongSuk #이종석
[History] It blew violently! Spectacular Lee Jong Suk's 3-stage change
• Such a perfect return! The power of Lee Jong Suk that led to beautiful immersion
• From dense emotional acting to immersive narration by Lee Jong Suk
• 'Big Mouse' Park Chang-ho understands why he had to be Lee Jong Suk
Tumblr media
'Big Mouth' Lee Jong Suk's 3-stage change captured the small screen.
MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Big Mouse' (played by Kim Haram, directed by Oh Choong-hwan, produced by A-Story, Studio Dragon, and A-Man Project) finally opened on the 29th. Lee Jong Suk's passionate performance in 'Blood Sweat & Tears' was more than perfect. He completed the spectacular change of 'Park Chang-ho (Lee Jong Suk)' with detailed acting until a lawyer with a win rate of 10%, who lived an ordinary daily life, got caught up in a huge case and became a rare genius con artist 'Big Mouse'. In addition, 'Lee Jong Suk's narration', which enhances the immersion of the play, is also gathering hot topics. His clever monologue, which conveys a development that could otherwise be heavy, in a light and clear manner, doubled the thrill of the viewers. The proof of why he had to be Lee Jong Suk is over with acting that explodes deep emotions from the bottom to the bottom. In this regard, I looked at the three-stage change of Lee Jong Suk, who meticulously portrayed Park Chang-ho's dramatic and fluctuating changes.
# Live a life full of 'salty'! 10% win rate Lawyer's bad luck
Park Chang-ho's daily life was full of bad luck rather than luck. He suffered a series of lawsuits and lost a reputation as a third-class lawyer with a win rate of 10%, and despite being a lawyer, he suffered a huge amount of fraud and was living in a reality where the immediate card price and loan interest were also difficult. The situation became even more difficult as the trial of the fraud case was also defeated, in spite of the efforts of even spending a loan to win. As a result, his relationship with his wife Go Mi-ho (played by Im Yoon-ah) was on the verge of breaking even. Lee Jong Suk realistically portrays the salty daily life of Park Chang-ho. Even his seemingly incompetent and irresponsible appearance gained persuasive power by wearing Lee Jong Suk's color. The insignificant charms that appear in the middle and the smirk of a real husband created a character that cannot be hated. It was a daily life full of Park Chang-ho's 'salty smell', which is possible because Lee Jong Suk has unrivaled digestibility.
# Get entangled in a huge incident in 'chaos'! A request that completely shook your life
A dangerous proposal like a ray of hope came into Park Chang-ho's life, which was full of unhappiness. Gucheon Mayor Choi Do-ha (Kim Joo-heon) commissioned the defense of the 'Gucheon University Hospital Murder Case'. It was a large-scale incident as both the victim and the suspect belonged to the privileged class of Gucheon City. Park Chang-ho tried to reject the proposal that was not quite clear, but eventually accepted the proposal due to Choi Do-ha's words that he wanted the truth rather than innocence and a large deposit. It was an opportunity to pay off all debts and remove the reputation of being a lawyer with a win rate of 10%. But maybe it was because he was too greedy? That opportunity brought even greater misfortune. A cup of coffee accidentally handed to a restaurant employee led to a car accident, and he was later arrested on suspicion of drug use. Lee Jong-suk meticulously portrayed the complicated inner life of Park Chang-ho, who was entangled in a huge incident. The tension of the play can be kept taut thanks to Lee Jong-suk's skill in delicately creating the three-dimensional figure of Park Chang-ho, from his arbitrary act of going to Gong Ji-hoon (Yang Kyung-won), the president of the Woojung Ilbo, to get more money while revealing the truth of the incident. there was.
# Start running with 'desperation'! Fraudulent con artist Big Mouse
The spectacular change that hit Park Chang-ho did not end here. Following the drug charges, he was imprisoned for money, gold bars, drugs and pistols from the office. In addition, his life fell even worse when he was pointed out as the 'Big Mouse', a genius con artist who had been hiding for a long time. Unbearable despair and frustration came over Park Chang-ho due to the incomprehensible events that struck him. Eventually, he started running to prove his innocence. “There is only one thing I can do on my own. I am revealing my innocence through death.” He provoked prisoners who had a reputation as vicious criminals, and even escaped from prison. Park Chang-ho fell to a place where there was no more place to fall. His sprint starts now. Attention is drawn to the choice of Park Chang-ho, who jumped into the typhoon with despair, frustration, anger and anger. Above all, attention is also focused on Lee Jong-suk's performance in providing tension by crossing between explosions and restraints in rough and turbulent situations.
Meanwhile, MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Big Mouse' is broadcast every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.

Run On
— 2021
Tumblr media
(REVIEW)
Cast:
Siwan as Ki Seon-gyeom
Shin Se-kyung as Oh Mi-joo
Sooyoung as Seo Dan-ah
Kang Tae-oh as Lee Yeong-hwa
Ohhhhhh these two!! ❤️❤️❤️ I didn’t expect to love this K-drama!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love Shin Se-kyung so muuuuch especially on Sensory Couple that’s why I watched Run On but it’s my first encounter with Siwan and guysssss OMG he’s so dreamy!!!! I so love his character here. He’s that innocent athlete at the start and eventually grew as this matured guy because of Mi-joo’s take on life. And also, what I love about Seon-gyeom is when he stood up for what he believes in even if it will affect his career.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Mi-joo, what I love about her is her self-love. She always reminds Seon-gyeom to love himself first, to also think of his own well-being and not just the people around him ‘coz Seon-gyeom has this habit of always looking up for others that sometimes he forgets his own self. And what I like about her is when she’s straight to the point especially that part when she said she has feelings for him. It’s just so brave of her 😊
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another thing I like about this K-drama is Dan-ah and Yeong-hwa’s relationship. He’s really into her but she’s not. Until he got tired and turned the tables around. I just love how their relationship turned out and I also like Dan-ah’s story and character.
Tumblr media
I also love these 4’s friendship! So cute!! And zone chief Hwa-jeong is in this show (those who watched HomeCha knows her 😉). Anyway, watch it guys! It’s another “feel-good” one. Not so dramatic and has a good storyline about a movie translator and an athlete. ❤️💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Story: 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬
Enjoyment: 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Will watch again? OH YES PLS!!

Omg thank you so much for the tag @omarandjohnny ! I already had a recommendation post in my drafts about shows featuring mlm relationships so this is like, the perfect opportunity
Therefore I'm gonna start with Number 6. Your top 5 and answer the rest of them in a rb :)
To My Star
Tumblr media
The summary did them dirty tbh. It didn't really make me want to watch it but I did anyway and boyy I don't regret it, so I'll try to make a better one.
Summary : When actor Kang Seo Joon gets involved in a scandal, he ends up living with Han Jiwoo, a young chef working in a restaurant. Jiwoo is a man of habit and does not really enjoy his daily routines being messed with, but SeoJoon with his outgoing and forthright personnality might just manage to worm his way into Jiwoo's life.
This show features cooking as a love language, has incredible acting and aesthetically pleasing shots. Engaging plot, believable characters you are 100% invested in, tension but no unnecessary drama. Did I mention amazing acting ?
Anyway cannot recommend this one enough.
Where your Eyes Linger
Tumblr media
Summary : Han Tae Joo is the son of the chairman of a huge conglomerate, blessed with a wealthy family, good looks and popularity. Kang Gook is his bodyguard, and also his only friend. Tension erupts between them when a new female student, Hye Mi, shows interest in Kang Gook. As the two go on a date, Han Tae Joo becomes irritated, and soon after, long-suppressed emotions start surfacing. Could there be more to their platonic friendship?
©: Based on Shannon0l0 at MyDramaList
What's with Korea and great acting. More dramatic than the previous one imo but I mean, it's called drama for a reason. I'm just gonna do this ao3 style : bodyguard, high school, feelings realization, friends to lovers, angst with a happy ending.
History 2: Crossing the Line
Tumblr media
Summary : School 'bad boy' Xia Yu Hao gets pestered to join the volleyball club, where he finds himself falling for Qiu Zi Xuan, retirer player and dedicated manager of the team.
I've talked about this one already but. It just. Makes me happy. So far it's still my favorite from the HIStory series. Pretty lighthearted, and the acting is just... So damn good.
The Untamed
Tumblr media
I like how there's no in between in this list. It's either relatively simple mini dramas or, like this one, full blown 30+ plot-heavy-episode costume dramas. I'm not sure if I have to summarize this one but still, here goes.
Summary : Wei Wuxian goes to study at Gusu Lan, and cannot for the life of him resist bothering the renowned second jade of Lan, Lan Wanji. Life happens and 16 years later, when Wei Wuxian has become feared by the whole world as the Yiling Patriarch, Lan Wangji is the only one still standing by his side.
It's about the ✨👌pining👌✨. and the profound love, and the pretty costumes and the musics and reincarnation – basically, lots and lots of angst, and so much more than just a 'romance' drama.
Word of Honor
Tumblr media
Another if-you've-been-following-me-this is probably-not-unknown-to-you kind of thing. Still.
Summary : Zhou Zishu, renowned assassin has all but given up on life and decides to spend his last 3 years drinking in the sun. He meets Wen Kexing, a mysterious man who keeps following him, and Cheng Ling a boy who lost his family, and somehow they teach each other the things that matter in life.
Anyway. This one is about the married life, and standing by your partner no matter what. Enjoy the ride, but get ready for p a i n 🙃
Honorable mention : Love is science
Tumblr media
Well. I kinda have to mention this one since it's my current obession lol.
Summary : Between clients dumping water on Ou Wen and Mark's knee jerk reaction when he finds out Ou Wen is gay, their first meetings are kinda disastrous. However through a series of encounters where they more or less begrudgingly help each other, they end up enjoying each other's presence more than each of them would have thought ?
It's definitely about the "oh shit I caught feelings". Yes it's a side couple, but honestly it's rather refreshing that they have an existence outside of their developing bond, relationship thingie. The acting is great, their chemistry is on point and hilarious, and each character has their own life. I cannot wait to see how this will develop.

13 Protect The Boss (2011)
Tumblr media
This K-drama doesn't have the typical boss characteristics seen in other shows. Protect the Boss centers around Cha Ji-Heon (Ji Sung), a childish director at DN Group. He soon meets his match in his new secretary, Noh Eun-Seol (Choi Kang-Hee).
Eun-Seol is determined to not lose her first professional job and gives it her all. Her kind and spunky demeanor start to attract Ji-Heon. That's not all, the drama has a love triangle between Ji-Heon and his rival and cousin, Cha MuWwon (Kim Jae-Joong).
12 Master's Sun (2013)
Tumblr media
Master's Sun is another K-drama with a supernatural base. Tae Kong-Shil (Gong Hyo-Jin) gains the ability to see ghosts after a bizarre accident. Her abilities leave her unable to keep a solid job. Kong-Shil works as a cleaning lady at Kingdom's, a conglomerate company, shopping mall.

11 Jugglers (2017)

2017 was a good year to binge-watch multiple boss-employee relationship K-dramas. Jugglers followed the trend and revolved around a secretary and her cold as ice boss. Jwa Yoon-Yi (Baek Jin-Hee) is a devoted and diligent secretary whose put on hold when her boss's wife accuses her of having an affair with her husband.
On the other end, Nam Chi-Won (Daniel Choi) is assigned to be the managing director at Yoon-Yi's company. Yoon-Yi becomes his secretary. 10 My Secret Romance (2017)

They're less than cordial with one another but soon start to feel an attraction and spend the night.
Yoo-mi is unaware of who he really is and flees the following morning. Years later she is hired to be his nutritionist. Jin-Wook changed his ways after that night and takes over his father's company and never forgot Yoo-mi. He tries to romance her and get to admit her feelings for him. Interwoven is a storyline involving Yoo-mi's baby brother that is blown out of proportion on who the father is.
9 Rich Man (2018)
Tumblr media
Rich Man might also be known for its original Japanese television drama version, Rich Man, Poor Woman. The K-drama was a 2018 remake that did well on television. The show takes an interesting route with the main male character. The CEO of a popular IT company has a facial recognition disability.
This has caused him the inability to recognize his first love. At an employee recruitment meeting, he picks on a particular girl with photogenic memory. She stands up to the mean CEO and says something that catches his interest. She ends up working for the company and helping the CEO.
8 Strong Girl Bong-soon (2017)
Tumblr media
Strong Girl Bong-Soon is a highly popular K-drama and has a lot of the same characteristics of an employee falling in love with their boss. A young girl is born with unexplainable superhuman strength. It's more of a family trait. This leads to an intriguing storyline.
After beating up some bullies, she is hired by a rich CEO of a gaming company. While having a crush on her friend, she starts to realize who she really has feelings for. All while protecting her CEO from a possible threat and kidnapper.
7 My Shy Boss (2017)
Tumblr media
Sometimes opposites attract in the most bizarre way possible. My Shy Boss or Introverted Boss follows the tumultuous relationship between a CEO and his new employee. The CEO of a public relations firm is the exact opposite of what one expects.
RELATED: 10 Best K-Drama “Second Lead” Couples That Every Fan Rooted For
He's highly introverted, shy, sensitive, and can come off as cold. On the other hand, the company hires a new employee who is extroverted, loud, and not afraid to speak her mind. She takes an interest in the CEO and wants to uncover who he really is under his hood.
6 Lucky Romance (2016)
Tumblr media
Audiences will surely have a good laugh with this K-drama with its peculiar antics. In Lucky Romance, a 26-year-old attractive woman is highly superstitious believing she was born unlucky. She follows every precaution possible and consults a shaman about her sister. The only way to save her? She has to sleep with a man born in the year of the tiger.
She soon meets a CEO and genius game developer. Who happens to fit her criteria. Their personalities clash, but Shim Bo-Nui (Hwang Jung-Eum) is determined to see save her sister even if it means wooing her boss.
5 Level Up (2019)
Tumblr media
Level Up follows a lot of the typical boss-employee storyline details; mixed in with some drama. This CEO specializes in helping reconstruct failing companies. He takes on a company called Joybuster despite his previous childhood trauma with gaming.
As the new CEO of the company, he soon meets its head designer. A passionate and sweet young woman clashes heads with a cold and meticulous boss. Will they put their differences aside and complete their new game and maybe fall in love?
4  Hotel Del Luna (2019)
Tumblr media
Hotel Del Luna is a fan favorite amongst K-dramas. It mixes the supernatural with some dramatic romance. Jang Man-Wol (Lee Ji-Eun) is moody and bad-tempered for having to run Hotel Del Luna for the past thousands of years. She must atone for her indiscretions and change her attitude.
The hotel is only visible to souls, ghosts, and humans at special times of the year. Things heat up when the hotel gets a new general manager due to a contract signed by his father. Gu Chan-sung (Yeo Jin-goo) is a stoic MBA graduate who has to confront his fear of ghosts. He soon changes his demeanor and helps melt Man-Wol's heart and keep her safe.
3 She Was Pretty (2015)
Tumblr media
She Was Pretty is a fun roller coaster ride for anyone who watches. Fans of Parasite will recall the lead actor in this drama.  Two childhood friends grow up on the opposite ends of the spectrum for both success and looks. Kim Hye-jin (Hwang Jung-Eum) ended up having her father's red cheeks and frizzy hair, while Ji Sung-Joon (Park Seo-Joon) becomes a strikingly handsome man.
RELATED: 10 K-Dramas With A Vampire Storyline, Ranked (According To IMDb)
They decide to reconnect but Hye-jin backs out seeing how much they've changed. Instead, he mistakes her best friend for her creating a fake love story. Sung-Joon then becomes her boss at her magazine company unaware of who she really is. Will Sung-Joon recognize his first love and fall head over heels? Or will her co-worker woo her away?
2 What's Wrong With Secretary Kim (2018)
Tumblr media
What's Wrong With Secretary Kim is at the top of the list and regarded as one of the best romance K-dramas when it comes to the employee-boss dynamic. Kim Mi-so (Park Min-young) has been Lee Young-Joon's (Park Seo-Joon) right-hand woman for years as his secretary. Her announcement of resignation doesn't sit well with her cold and professional boss.
He then starts to see her in a different light beyond the professional. There's jealousy, romantic gestures, and changing of heart in his drama. Not to mention there are some steamy kissing scenes. Young-Joon will do whatever he can to keep Mi-so in his life.

After some rumors spread, Gold and Doek-Mi must pretend to date to stop scrutiny towards her favorite idol and new museum client. Fake dating soon starts to blossom into real love. Deok-Mi must try and let go of her secret fan page and obsession.

TITLE !  debutante
WORD COUNT !  1,110
CHARACTERS !  Jung Mija AKA STELLA, Kim Jinjoo AKA JOJO
GENRE !  A LITTLE angst
SYNOPSIS !  In which Mija begins her debut in society as an entertainer.
AUTHORS NOTE !  Please note that this is no longer how Jung Mija feels entirely (at least not to this extent) I wrote this piece before starting over and it’s my favorite. It’s who Jung Mija is essentially, and although it is no longer this intense, it still embodies her as a character within my own imagination.
WARNINGS !  none!
Tumblr media
If you had asked a fan what Jung Mija was to kpop, there would be no hesitation in calling her the ‘princess’ or ‘first love’ of the industry. I’m not going to say that she didn’t try. The ace would like to believe that to be a fact but even she would admit deep down that she actually tries extremely hard to maintain her perfect image within her community. Don’t you think it’s semi-unrealistic to believe in a perfect person?
Jung Mija has sacrificed everything but her own will to live to become an idol. If you had asked Mr. and Mrs. Jung, they’d say that Mija has always acted like a diva, almost as if the spotlight followed her even when she was too young to understand. Mija can only remember one time where her guard was let down and the harsh light of the spotlight dimmed just enough to see the audience.
It was the debut stage of GLOSS. Typical, right? You always hear stories about idols crying backstage before debut. I mean- it’s realistic. You’re facing a crowd of people and they’re watching you perform. Oh, and did I forget to mention that the performance could make or break your career? Mija could vividly remember a girl stumbling to the ground during choreo on a comeback stage, and how she was talked about like a dog after. ‘She can’t dance’ ‘WEAK’ It’s funny considering the irony. Idols literally giving their blood, sweat, and tears into what they do and who do they do it for? Those bastards in the audience who care about nothing but perfection. And Jung Mija was determined to live up to their cares because Jung Mija considered herself to be perfection. Now, that sounds egotistical, but she’s actually extremely humble about the whole image. She hasn’t ever used her perfection against another idol as an insult. One may wonder how she stays humble? (Begrudgingly, of course.) She works EXTREMELY hard to keep her facade up. Mija wouldn’t wish her struggle or work that goes into being perfect upon anyone, not even her enemies.
Mija remembered her heart pounding so hard in her chest that she felt it would explode. She had gone over the dance so many times backstage that she should fear the consequences of not taking a break. No, Mija shouldn’t fear anything. Perfection isn’t a struggle, right? Perfection shouldn’t have to struggle. But she was struggling. She could feel every limb in her body ache with pain due to how hard she was popping and how overworked she felt. Popping her arms and sharpening her movements didn’t bother her. She’s a dancer. But doing it over and over for hours in the same tight space was different criteria. If she didn’t hurt, she would be worried about her body.
“Jangmi,” Jinjoo, Mija’s best friend, called out to her in concern after seeing her repeat the choreo one time too many. ‘Jung Mija? Jung Mi...Jangmi.’ and the rest was history. When Mija was just a trainee, she not only despised the nickname but also the existence of her current best friend. How dare she shorten her name as if disrespecting her identity? And how dare she already be friends with everyone in the agency? They were the same age but how could someone just a few months younger than her have this much power over her?
Mija had grown a lot from her meeting with Jinjoo and had actually changed to loving and respecting her. Mija just wouldn’t be Mija without her friendship with Jinjoo.
“Jangmi, ya listening? I said you’re going to collapse if you continue to overwork yourself,” she took a sip of her water bottle. Jinjoo and the rest had practiced too, but everyone seemed to know when to quit. Well, everyone but Mija.
“I’ll be fine, ‘joo. I just need to kinda perfect my dance. I’m not going to collapse, you’re being dramatic.”
“That’s what they all say. But I’m not gonna take that ‘I’ll be fine’. You’re gonna sit down, have a drink of water, and rest before you literally give yourself a heart attack.” Before Mija could even digress, of course, Jinjoo pulled her to sit down and grabbed her a water bottle. ‘How sweet,’ Mija smiled a bit at her sister. Sometimes, being perfect was hard stuff. Mija could admit that she had felt more alone than not when she had first become a trainee. Then here came this sweet and headstrong Kim Jinjoo who seemed to have everyone cheering for her. And who did she appeal to? The small Jung Mija.
“Whatever you’re thinking about, no.” Mija laughed at Jinjoo and took the water bottle, finally taking a sip. If felt like she could feel that tiny sip in her whole body and she relaxed in her chair unconsciously. “Stupid Jangmi! You’re supposed to hydrate while dancing or else you’ll never maintain a healthy life.” Jinjoo joked around with Mija, but she knew it was only to mask her worry. Why was Jinjoo worrying about Mija? She was perfect and she didn’t need anybody worrying for her sake. “Don’t worry, okay? I’ll be okay.” Jinjoo didn’t seem to believe her but she shrugged it off, grabbing her friend’s hand gently. “Okay. I’m just letting you know that if you ever feel like you’re not okay, you can come to the people who are closest to you but love you the most. Me, Yejin, Jaza, or even Hyojin. She’s wise to be youngest out of us all.”
Mija grasped her friend's hand and held it tight. At this moment, she wasn’t anybody. She wasn’t perfect, she wasn’t Stella of GLOSS, she wasn’t princess Jung Mija. She felt nothing and that seemed to be her happiest. Jinjoo seemed surprised that Mija didn’t just blow off her affection and held her friend’s hand back. Jinjoo knows that Mija is silently suffering but she doesn’t know what to do. She can only do so much, but she can’t do everything. She can’t remind Jung Mija that she a human and expect her to believe it. She can’t stress that it’s OK to make mistakes and that you shouldn’t regard yourself as perfect. But she can’t, because she isn’t Jung Mija. She’s Kim Jinjoo. And all she can do is tell her and pray every night that one day, she will believe her and the people around her who love her the most.
Mija let go of Jinjoo’s hand gently before taking another sip of her water. They were about to debut and no longer would Jung Mija just be Jung Mija. She’d be Jung Mija AND Stella.

The 13 Best Korean Dramas Of 2020
New Post has been published on https://perfectirishgifts.com/the-13-best-korean-dramas-of-2020/
The 13 Best Korean Dramas Of 2020
Bae Suzy and Nam Joo-hyuk partner up in ‘Start-Up.’
Although 2020 will make the history books for all the wrong reasons, it was a great year for Korean dramas. With a slew of big budget hits and small quirky stories, k-dramas offered plenty of innovative entertainment to help viewers happily pass pandemic time.
Every drama viewer may have a different list of favorites, but here are a few 2020 dramas that stood out in terms of originality, subject matter and execution.
Park Seo-joon created one of the year’s most memorable k-drama characters in ‘Itaewon Class.’
Itaewon Class
The year started off with the quirky hit Itaewon Class, in which Park Seo-joon’s character overcomes so many odds that he naturally sympathizes with those who society may shun. When opening a cafe he hires employees that others might not and those choices contribute to his success. Park’s generous character is one of the year’s most likable and the drama also features top-notch performances by Kim Da-mi, Kwon Nara, Yoo Jae-Myung and Ahn Bo-hyun.
Why see it? If you’ve never been to Seoul’s international neighborhood of Itaewon, this drama takes you there. The drama provides plenty of feel-good moments and a great soundtrack, including a contribution by BTS member V.
Kim Hee-ae and Park Hae-joon star in ‘The World of The Married.’
World of the Married
Although this drama has not yet made it to all international audiences, it was a huge hit in Korea, enjoying both critical success and nationwide ratings of 28.37%. World of the Married, an adaptation of the BBC series Dr. Foster, stars Kim Hae-ae. Kim plays a doctor who thinks her life is perfect until she learns that her husband, played by Park Hae-joon, has been cheating on her. Even worse, all their friends know.
Why see it? Kim won Best Actress at the Baeksang Awards for playing the drama’s protagonist Ji Sun-woo and the drama was a breakout hit for supporting actress Han Seo-hee. There’s also the guilty pleasure of watching a woman scorned exact revenge on those who betrayed her.
The legal drama ‘Hyena’ starred Kim Hye-soo and Ju Ji-hoon.
Hyena
The drama’s leading characters, played by Kim Hye-soo and Ju Ji-hoon, each have their own approach to practicing law. She’s a scrappy small-time lawyer with questionable ethics and he’s a self-satisfied high-profile lawyer at a top firm. Despite their differences—and getting off to a bad start when she scams him—they turn out to be good for each other.
Why see it? Ju delivers a pitch-perfect performance, with his every twitch and grimace creating an unforgettable character.  Ju and Kim have undeniable chemistry that sizzles through episodes of fast-paced high-stakes legal entanglements.
Bae Doona played a zombie-fighting nurse in the second season of ‘Kingom.’
Kingdom 2
The second season of this historical zombie drama was even better than the first. Kingdom 2 also stars Ju Ji-hoon as the prince trying to save his country from a zombie invasion as well as inner court corruption. What makes the second season better than the first is a larger role for actress Bae Doona, whose character takes time out from nursing the sick to battle the undead.
Why see it: It’s a zombie story with a historical and moral twist.
Start Up
Nam Joo-Hyuk and Bae Suzy star in this story of a small tech start-up that gets a chance to compete on a bigger stage. When Bae’s character Seo Dal-mi was young she received encouraging letters from a man named Nam Do-san, but the letters were really written by Kim Seon-ho’s character Han Ji-pyeong. When a grown-up Dal-mi decides to find the real Do-san, played by Nam, Ji-pyeong asks Do-san to pretend he really wrote the letters. Do-san and Dal-mi are perfect for each other but their budding relationship is based on a lie.
Why see it? The story of how the start-up gets started is interesting. Each of the actors—from the leads to the supporting cast— is imperfectly endearing and Kim wins this year’s unofficial prize for being the most appealing second lead.
Lee jun-ki is a potential serial killer married to the detective played by Moon Chae-won in ‘Flower … [] of Evil.’
Flower of Evil
What would you do if you found out you were married to a serial killer? It might be happening to Moon Chae-won’s police detective character in Flower of Evil. Her devoted husband, played by Lee Jun-ki, has a mysterious past that ties him to a serial killer. Did he also commit murders? If he is a serial killer, does his wife love him enough to look past the incriminating clues?
Why see it? Although some of the drama’s plot occasionally veers into the illogical, the relationship between the leads is so charismatic that the drama acquired a loyal and enthusiastic following. The mystery is sufficiently complex and Lee’s tortured performance as the suspected serial killer is mesmerizing.
Park So-dam played Park Bo-gum’s makeup artist in ‘Record of Youth.’
Record of Youth
Record of Youth features ambitious likable protagonists trying to find their place in a highly competitive world. Park Bo-gum plays a model so charming it’s hard to imagine why he’s not already a success at the story’s start. Park So-dam plays a talented make-up artist with dreams. She’s also a devoted fan of his modeling career.
Why see it? Park Bo-gum’s character is as bright as a shiny penny, ever optimistic and upbeat, despite not having much support for his dreams. Watching Park So-dam act is always a pleasure and the real star of the drama might be Han Jin-hee, who plays Park Bo-gum’s supportive grandfather.
Seo Ye-ji aggressively pursues Kim Soo-hyun in ‘It’s Okay Not To Be Okay.’
It’s Okay Not To Be Okay
Easily the most visually appealing drama of 2020, It’s Okay Not To Be Okay stars two of k-drama’s most photogenic actors Seo Ye-ji and Kim Soo-hyun as a twisted children’s book author and the psychiatric nurse she needs to calm her nightmares. Not only are the actors beautiful, but the drama’s graphics, cinematography and costumes are also gorgeous.
Why see it? The drama explores the topics of autism and the mental scars created by early trauma. Oh Jung-se’s performance as Kim’s autistic brother was one of the best of the year.
‘The Good Detective’ is a fast-paced crime thriller starring Son Hyun-joo and Jang Seung-jo.
The Good Detective
The Good Detective delivers a Scandi-noir vibe with its insightful character development plus some over-the-top, superhero police action scenes. The drama stars Son Hyun-joo, who might have the most expressive face of any k-drama actor, and Jang Seung-jo as a detective whose super-power is having a fortune.
Why see it? The Good Detective is an involving police procedural with top-rate performances. Oh Jung-se plays a hard-hearted villain, a dramatically different role than his vulnerable character in It’s Okay Not To Be Okay.
Nana plays a woman who pursues politics for a paycheck despite Park Sung-hoon’s objections.
Into The Ring
The wry comedy stars Nana, formerly a member of k-pop group After School, and Park Sung-hoon, who recently played a convincing but comical killer in Psychopath Diary. Nana plays a plucky unemployed woman who runs for office, motivated largely by the paycheck, but also from a sense of justice. Although Park initially finds her irritating, he eventually helps her fight local corruption.
Why see it? Nana is so charismatic in this role, viewers may want to see everything she’s ever done. She and Park develop a low-key lovable comic rapport that keeps a story about local politics happily enjoyable.
‘My Dangerous Wife’ is a cat-and-mouse mystery within the story of a marriage.
My Dangerous Wife
In this dark comedy Choi Won-young plays a chef who plans to murder his wealthy wife, so he can inherit her money, but when he arrives home with a poisoned bottle of wine he finds she has been kidnapped. The note the kidnappers left behind warns him not to contact the police or they will kill his wife. Should he? It sounds like an opportunity.
Why see it: Interesting plot twists and turns make this drama fascinating to the very last episode. The complex storyline involves a mistress, a mysterious old friend, a detective with a suspicious wife, and a set of curious next door neighbors with secrets of their own.
Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin experience an impossible love in ‘Crash Landing On You.’
Crash Landing On You
Crash Landing On You, which first aired in Dec. 2019, successfully introduced a wider international audience to the joys of k-drama viewing. The mega-hit, starring Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, follows the story of a South Korean heiress who accidentally lands in North Korea and is helped by a North Korean officer at the risk of his own life.
Why see it? Everything about the drama is top-notch—the cinematography, the romantic storyline and the excellent performances from the lead and supporting actors. The drama also offers some interesting insight into North Korean daily life.
Shin Sung-rok stars in the paranormal thriller ‘Kairos.’
Kairos
Kairos is a tense paranormal thriller about karmic debt. In this drama two people who live in different times stumble on a supernatural way to talk and thus untangle their preventable personal tragedies. Shin Sung-rok plays a callous businessman whose daughter is kidnapped. Lee Se-young plays a woman whose mother disappears. Together they must change fate but they can’t connect in their own time. This plot device was used in the film The Call and the k-drama Signal, but it feels fresh in Kairos, given the carefully crafted moments of suspense and some intriguing performances.
Why see it? Both Shin and supporting actor Ahn Bo Hyun do an excellent job of portraying men who question what they once held sacred.

Joon-Jae is a scumbag with a heart and a tragic past and it is very difficult not to love them both. It is heartbreaking to see the two fall for eachother knowing they cannot be together for far too many reasons. It spans a number of years and their love remains strong throughout. The quotes in this from Woo-jin’s real journals are beautiful too and add to the real life story. 18. My ID Is Gangnam Beauty
Afraid of how her peers perceive her, Kang Mi-Rae (Im Soo-hyang) undergoes plastic surgery to stop worrying about her looks before she starts university. However, after a while at university people begin to label her as a ‘Gangnam plastic surgery monster’ as her appearance is a bit too obviously altered. Mi-rae struggles with her concerns of what people think about her, which has followed her around her whole life, in a stark contrast to Do Kyung-seok (Cha Eun-Woo), who does not care what others think. The general message of body positivity isn’t without its flaws, but it brings discussions of insecurity and societal standards to the forefront. The good messaging outweighs the flaws by far and there is also a fair bit of feminism going on, just keep track of Mi-rae’s T-shirt slogans! The relationship between Kyung-seok and Mi-rae is very sweet and shy, and Kyung-seok likes her regardless of what others think. Lighthearted but with an important message.

19. She Was Pretty
Kim Hye-Jin’s (Hwang Jung-eum) childhood friend contacts her years later wishing to reconnect. However, upon meeting Ji Sung-joon (Park Seo-joon) does not recognise her, expecting her to appear like her younger self. Kim Hye-jin was a beautiful girl from a rich family, but after her family's publishing company went bankrupt, she experienced hardships then lost her beauty too. Ji Sung-joon was a shy, unattractive boy, but grows up as a handsome and successful editor. Ashamed to meet her first love and ruin his perception of her, Hye-jin asks her attractive best friend, Min Ha-ri (Go Joon-hee), to act as her once, then make up an excuse to never see Sung-joon again. Things get complicated when Hye-jin is assigned to work at The Most magazine publishing office where Sung-joon is the deputy chief editor. He openly mistreats and belittles her for her clumsy nature, not knowing that she was his real childhood friend. Kim Shin-Hyuk () is the second lead in this and his performace is fantastic. The growth between Sung-joon and Hye-jin is definitely worth watching and messages about beauty resonate well.
Year: 2015

20. Thirty But Seventeen
Although there are a fair few emotional moments, this show is still for the most part a light, heartwarming drama with little angst and struggle. Also, there are not really ny plausible second leads to confuse the romance storyline as Yoo Chan (Ahn Hyo-Seop) is Gong Woo-Jin’s (Yang Se-Jong) 19 year old nephew, and Kim Tae-Hyun has very little screen time. I feel this makes it a lot easier to connect to the main couple, who are ADORABLE. They are both still mentally 17, after Woo Seo-Ri (Shin Hye-Sun) was in a coma for 13 years, and Woo-Jin’s PTSD from the accident keeps him stuck on repeat. After waking from her coma, Seo-Ri returns to her old house, unaware that it is now under new ownership in the form of Woo-Jin’s family. There is still a lot of tropey goodness (living together!!), but the story and interactions feel fresh and unique, and the dynamic between Seo-Ri, Woo-Jin, Yoo Chan, and Jennifer (Ye Ji-Won) is enough to keep you watching as it’s so warm and pure. Not to mention the dog Paeng/Deok Gu!! I love them all so much and it’s just the sweetest!

♡ Ratings: IMBd (7.1/10), MyDramaList (7.5/10)
♡ My Opinion: 8/10 -It took me a while to finish this drama but I lose interest quite easily so it isn’t anything to do with the quality of this drama. -My original interest in this drama came from the actress Ku Hye-sun as she was one of the main characters in Boys Over Flowers (next review). -The chemistry between the main actors, Ku Hye-sun and Ahn Jae-Hyun is really good (and they’re married in real life!). -This drama handles romance and everything pretty well however if you’re looking for a drama with a lot of fangirl moments then I suggest something else -(but this did have some good romance moments).

♡ Ratings: IMDb (7.2/10), MyDramaList (8.2/10)
♡ My Opinion: 7/10 -For a drama that isn't suited to my tastes, this one really impressed me. -The acting it takes to be able to pull off a successful bodyswap is extremely difficult and the actresses acting in this drama is immaculate. -This has a lot of angst, considering the suicide references, but is a good drama. -This J-Drama has only been given a 7 out of ten because of the plot (which is still great but not my type) but the acting I'd say is the best here.
