can we talk about how Koei Tecmo, a publisher infamous for objectifying and hypersexualizing female characters, did the zelda cast better in the gals' designs than Nintendo ever did up to that point?

And meanwhile Zelda and Midna are handled in amazing ways that warrant their own entire discussions (aforementioned BOTW comparison for Zelda, Midna's twili form actually getting to show her power, and her imp form not just being a macguffin.)

Breath of the Wild “What If”... Link’s parents (Part 2)
Part 1 is here! (quick summary, Link’s parents are trying to save him when the shrine fails and they have to collect all the shrine’s spirit orbs to do so)
Link’s Mom and Dad leave the plateau with their comatose son in tow. The closest settlement that hasn’t been completely annihilated, surprisingly, is Gerudo Town. Link’s mom convinces her husband to let Link stay with her in Gerudo Town while he searches the nearby canyon for more shrines. They stumble onto a few on the way, which keeps Link from dying on them, but he’s still so wounded. They have a long way to go.
Mom carries her disguised son into town and stays at the inn. She cooks meals and sells them for money, and she and the innkeeper become friends. The innkeeper helps take care of Link, which means she quickly finds out he’s a voe, but she keeps their secret. Dad is hunting down shrine locations nearby, mapping them out so they can take Link to them when they’ve found them all (they have to take Link with them to access the shrines since they’re designed for the Hero, and that’s how they make sure he gets the spirit orbs too). Eventually, though, Mom starts wandering the desert and she finds shrines as well. Dad is the knight, he’s the one who fights, but Mom has learned to hunt via archery over the past ten years, and she really starts coming into her own now. She takes Link to different shrines while Dad also goes to Kakariko to explain the situation to Impa and try to get tips.
It’s been almost a month by now. Although Link wakes up with prompting to drink a broth Mom cooks so he doesn’t die of starvation or dehydration, he’s completely out of it. Doesn’t talk, doesn’t acknowledge anything or anyone, and slips back into slumber as soon as he’s done.
But one day, it changes. One day Mom has found enough shrines, gotten enough Spirit Orbs, and Link opens his eyes the next morning before Mom even has a chance to feed him. When she goes to him he’s looking right at her. And that’s when she knows this plan is going to work.
Mom and Dad reunite and they head to all the shrines he’s found, as well as being armed with new information: the Springs of Courage, Wisdom, and Power will likely help Link greatly. So now they have some dragon hunting to do too.
Eventually it all culminates in Link slowly healing and being able to reclaim the Master Sword. The first Divine Beast he frees, of course, is Vah Ruta. Because while he spent ten years in the shrine, and therefore some of his memories are foggy (especially of the calamity itself), he remembers. He remembers his mother and father, his sister, his grandfather, his childhood, his knighthood, his friends, his fiancee, his princess. He remembers all of it.
And he is going to kick some serious Calamity ass.
And that’s how parents save the world. Thank you very much.

Impa has had plenty of battle experience in her life.
Countless days spent training in both tactics and fighting itself, long hours plugged into doing nothing but honing the skills of her tribe and other abilities she’s been gifted with. Learning the most effective ways to use them all together, and win any fight.
But there’s really no way to prepare yourself for a battle in which both your past lover (who can’t exactly be called her husband since Impa hasn’t even spoken to him in almost two decades, and has also for some reason aligned himself with an army of monsters) and son (who is unaware of the identity of either of his parents, and shouldn’t be on the battlefield anyway since he’s not even of age) are both running around in on opposite sides, making it impossible to keep track of either of them.
Impa huffs as she dodges a spear, worry and exasperation clashing together within her.
She’s lost sight of Link for the third time already this battle, and only has a vague idea of where Volga ended up. Link has demonstrated he can handle himself, but he’s still only a trainee, and Impa’s seen (even from a distance) what sort of trouble he can get into.
And Volga...
The questions that have been swirling around in her head ever since the battle start to come to life again, but Impa ignores them, focusing not on the hurt and confusion and instead on her current goal.
“Where did the boy go, Link?” she asks the captain stationed at the keep she’s helping defend, slashing past a bokoblin and narrowly saving a soldier’s head.
The captain frowns, holding his shield up to block a stray arrow. “I lost sight of him, all I know is he took out a whole squad of bokos and ran off,” he says, forehead creased.
“I saw him heading to the abandoned fort ma’am,” a soldier calls towards her. “Someone said that dragon-man is back there, I think he went to go fight him off.”
A cold feeling steals into Impa’s chest.
“Idiot boy is going to get himself killed,” the captain at her side mutters, slicing viciously at a monster. “Trainees shouldn’t be out here at all, no less fighting dragons. Boy barely looks old enough to shave.”
Impa more than agrees, but doesn’t waste her time with words, leaving the keep in the captain’s capable hands, and taking off to go find Link.
...and Volga.
She follows the soldier’s words, heading to the fort he’d pointed out. Sure enough, as she gets closer, she sees streams of fire burst into the air, hears the clash of weapons and familiar shouts.
Her heart skips a beat, and she runs past bokoblins and moblins alike, pausing only momentarily to fight her way past a few.
None of the monsters that get in her way are terribly tough, but they take time to fight, and Impa is getting anxious, casting continued glances at the smoke and fire nearby. She’s seen firsthand today how good of a fighter Link is, but she’s also well aware of Volga’s strength.
And Link... will need help.
The last bokoblin falls and Impa runs for the fort, arriving just in time to see Volga slam a clawed fist into Link. He cries out as he’s thrown across the cobblestones, landing in a motionless heap, and Impa bolts, blood roaring in her ears.
She slides to a stop in front of Link when Volga tries to advance, putting herself between them and blocking his path. The dragon knight stares at her, shadowed eyes narrowed, and Impa glares back, unmoving in her defense of Link.
She sees no sign of the man she fell in love with in his eyes.
“How noble,” Volga sneers, embers falling from his mouth. “Enjoy your shared grave.”
The fire around him begins to intensify, and Impa’s eyes widen, knowing immediately what it means.
“Oh no...” she breathes, and turns back to Link in a panic, getting to a knee and touching his shoulder. He shifts at her touch, but just a little, his eyes flickering when she shakes him. Volga growls, and Impa whirls back towards him, knowing she doesn’t have enough time to pull Link out of here.
The air around Volga wavers with heat as flames lick up his form, and then he moves forward, blasting a huge plume of fire directly at them both, hotter than death mountain itself.
And right before the flames hit, Link stumbles in front of Impa, a hand outstretched like he hopes to hold back the flames with nothing but his arm.
Impa barely has enough time to be horrified (he’s only a boy, he shouldn’t be protecting her, she can’t watch her son die—) before the flames engulf them both.
...
But instead of burning alive in her former-lover’s flames, Impa instead feels a gentle warmth.
It’s equally soothing and powerful, and she opens her eyes, not even realizing she’d closed them. The sight that meets her makes her startle, and she stares up at Link in utter shock.
Golden light is pouring around Link— around her son, in a wide, protective glow, encircling and keeping them both safe. All of him holds a shine, but his left hand is glowing especially bright, triangles outlined on the back in a beautiful luminescent gold. A sign of which Impa would know anywhere and had already begun to suspect, but almost doesn’t want to believe, to face what it truly means for them all.
Link is the Hero.
Volga’s flames finally peter off, and the light fades, but Link still holds his hand up, fingers shaking a little. Volga studies him, giving Link a calculating look as his eyes dart across his face, and Impa finds herself holding her breath.
Will he notice the similarities, will he pick up on the features he and Link share, will he put the pieces together—
But Volga appears not to recognize anything amiss about Link, or even herself, and he barely spares her a glance as he growls something about not being beaten, and departs the battlefield.
Link shakily falls to a knee almost the moment he’s gone, and Impa resists the urge to grab him by the shoulders and make sure he’s okay, instead joining his side not too quickly.
“H-how...” he croaks, staring at his hand in equal awe and terror. “What was...”
“The triforce of courage,” Impa supplies, and he looks at her, his face covered in grime and sweat, and layered with a healthy amount of shock.
She takes a deep breath as what the meaning of this truly signifies begins to sink into her chest, fear and pride and several other emotions all vying for her attention. But she ignores them all, especially the sharp ache at the realization her son has a long fight ahead of him.
A monster howls somewhere nearby, accompanied by a soldier’s yell, and Impa closes her eyes, then reopens them, packing the emotions away with practiced ease.
“...I’m afraid we don’t have time for me to explain everything to you right now,” she apologizes, offering Link a hand up. “But I promise I will. At the moment, we have a battle to win.”
Link swallows, looking like he wants to say more. But then he straightens his shoulders and nods, letting her pull him to his feet. Impa can feel his hand still faintly shaking, and she can’t resist giving it the lightest of squeezes before she lets go, quickly returning her attention to the battle still raging outside the fort.
They can figure all of this out later. She can figure all of this out later.
Right now, they have a battle to win.

Day 9 - Fake Dating
Fandom: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Character(s): Link
Type of Request: 31 Days of Oc-Trope-R
Note(s): The requester wanted Reader helping Link fend off his suitors and I love this idea so much. Also, I make Link talk a tiny bit in this (like only a few words at a time) Also Also I felt so bad for Paya while writing this ngl (sorry Paya!!)
Tumblr media
You blamed it on how nice he is to everyone. Oh, you need ten apples? He's doing it. One hundred crickets to impress a girl? Done. It's insane what he'll do (you're still annoyed that you watched him cut grass for hours to get the crickets to only actually give the guy ten).
But then he was going to Karkariko Village next. He seemed nervous as you two traveled on the new horse he tackled and won over. Usually, he liked using his Sheika sleight, but you both quickly found out that you are not transported with him, and he had to hurry to get back to you before the Guardian shot you. It was not a fun time.
"What's wrong, Link?" You ask as your arms are wrapped around his waist while he directed the horse. He's quiet for a bit as he ponders the question. Or maybe he heard you and was choosing to be quiet like he sometimes does. A sigh is heard from him as he looks over his shoulder. You did not realize how closely you were holding him and tried to put some space between you.
"Be my girlfriend," he says. No lead in, no 'hey I have a favor', just a flat-out proposal and your jaw dropped. Link quickly realized his mistake and pink crossed his cheeks as he shook his head. "Pretend! Pretend to be my girlfriend!"
You had a million questions and were starting to ask before Link filled you in. Apparently almost every girl and woman (some men too) in Karkariko village has a crush on Link. Well, maybe not Impa, but that's still a large number. And Link does not know how many excuses he can give so he wants you to pretend to be his girlfriend just to keep them off of him.
And you agreed.
You don't know what came across your mind to agree, but you did. You and Link talked about things like how you started dating or other couple questions that might be asked. It was a bit weird, but ended up being fun? Mostly because he's a dork and you teased him quite a bit when he talked about how he didn't realize a lizalfo tail couldn't be used as food for some reason and a fairy had to save him after eating the dubious food.
When you make it to the village, you don't quite understand what Link needed help fending off. The people seemed nice, some kids wanted to play tag (and you found it adorable how Link did so), and there was a shrine that Link stole the apples from. It wasn't until you and Link went into a shop that you realized.
"Why hello, Link, here to fill up your quiver?" She practically purrs and your jaw drops at how much confidence she has while Link pushes you forward.
"Um, actually, we would like some arrows please," you say, and she glances to you in disappointment at you being between her and Link, who she still tries to eye as a piece of meat.
"And you are?" She asks, her tone a bit bored, but you can tell she tries her best to be nice to a new customer. Even if you're a bit annoyed with how she's treating you.
"His partner," you tell her, and she pauses as Link breathes a sigh of relief. She glances between the two of you and, without thinking, Link holds your hand.
Sure, he's held hands with you before. Mostly so you didn't fall off a cliff or when the wind was really bad. But this context felt different. Well, you're fake dating so it really shouldn't be that weird, but the issue is that you liked it.
You hear her mutter something about "typical men breaking a woman's heart" but you ignore it as Link buys up about every arrow in the store. You thank her as he drags you outside and sighs.
"'Fill up your quiver'." You are so quick to tease him, and his face goes a dark red as he puts his hands over his face to hide. You're interrupted from your next teasing as you hear a gasp and you glance over and see a, well, a very pretty girl.
"Hello Paya," Link greets politely to the girl while continuing to hide his face and her face gets redder than his is. And you realize that she likes him too. It's difficult not to realize it as Link gives you a look for help and you smile gently at the girl, Paya.
"Hi," you say, and she looks to you in confusion as her eyes glance between you and Link and how close you stand together. And you watch as her heart seems to shatter, but she keeps giving a smile. Your own heart aches with her reaction.
"Hello, I'm Paya. It was nice seeing you again, Link." It was sweet how she greeted you if only tears weren't forming in her eyes as she quickly walked off and Link sighed, muttering that he'll have to talk to her later.
You keep walking through the village with Link, continuing to be his fake girlfriend but the smile on your face felt faker. Your mind kept going back to the shattered look on Paya's face and you imagined yourself in her shoes. Link is your friend; one you've traveled with for so long. How would you react if he suddenly showed up with someone he looked really close to? You didn't like those thoughts.
Eventually you and him walk out of the village, going to where the fairy shrine is so he can catch some just in case. And you see the shining lights surrounding him and how handsome his face looks as he glances in the pool of the fountain. And you realize your "just friends" thoughts are full of crap.
You're silent as you two walk away from the fountain, following the path to a little overlook. Link sighs in relief as he sits on the ground, taking a break from the excitement while you stay standing and overthinking.
"What's wrong?" Link asks and you hate how perceptive he is. Or at least, when it comes to you, he seems overly preceptive. You force a smile and sit next to him.
"I was thinking of Paya, she looked heartbroken," you tell him and Link sighs at that.
"I know." Is his reply and you can hear the heaviness in his tone, as if he also feels guilt, but he doesn't say anything afterwards. Nothing about telling the truth or even hoping she'll be okay. You know earlier he said he'd talk to her, but you don't know what that entails. The only thing you're thinking of right now is, you don't want to end up like her, the poor girl.
"It'd be unfair if she learned that we are lying about dating," you say and Link glances over at you, giving a slow nod. "So, we should actually date." His eyes look like they'll pop out of his head.
"What?!" You wince at his reaction and are about to apologize and start to think 'maybe I will end up like Paya' but then you see the massive blush on his face again.
"Well, we've traveled together for so long and-"
"Let's date." He cuts you off from the long speech you're about to give to explain your feelings. You're a bit annoyed by how quickly he recovered, but that goes away as you sigh and lean against him, something you did as friends but now it feels different, but a good different.

Tumblr media
The calm summer breeze blew, comforting and slightly humid as it ruffled his hair along with the scarf.
Blue star coloured eyes focused on the horizon, the chatting and bantering happening beside him barely catching his attention.
He looked lost.
As if chasing after something oh so far away, yet he didn't know what it was.
“Dozing off again, Link?” Impa voice resounded, breaking him off his stupor, gladiolus eyes thinning at the blank stare the warrior offered her.
“Let it be, Impa.” Zelda cut through, graciously stirring the tea before she poured one cup for herself.
“Ah, I can do it, Your Highness-” As Impa tried to stand up, the princess simply waved her hand.
Link took a sip of his own tea, already cold, though the gentle rosemary scent still filled his nostrils, a vague memory of Zelda telling him it was one of her favorite ones coming to mind, yet as the flavor seeped into his mouth he could only grimace.
Bitter.
The princess lightly pushed the sugar pot nearer to him, yet the hero refused, setting the porcelain cup back to the saucer with a muted clack.
“Excuse me, but I have to go back to my duties.” A blatant lie, he had been given a week off just the previous day.
Nonetheless, the princess nodded in understanding, barely looking his way as he made his way out of the garden. The gerbera daisies surrounded him the whole way out, as if mocking him, the sunny yellow shade only serving to make his mood worse.
He couldn’t understand why it was happening, why sometimes there were lapses of memories within him, the figments of a voice and a soft touch that caressed his cheeks with so much tenderness that he wanted to cry. He knew that such a thing could never have happened in the past as he spent most of his time in the war and taking care of his job as a commander.
His fists clenched when he finally reached the outer walls of the castle, the soldiers guarding the area bowed to him in respect, before opening the gates.
Freedom at last.
Somehow, after everything that happened, he couldn’t feel at ease while in that place, when near those people, when he got reminded of every single nightmare he had to push through, he felt as if drowning amidst the suffocating essence of abatina flowers, her image resurfacing to his mind even when he tried so hard to wipe it out of the memory.
With a sigh, he started heading back to his quarter, a vague sensation of deja vu overcoming his body, the rustling of the crisp summer air brushing his hair as if it was a loving hand.
The path home was quiet, some people greeting him here and there, to which was answered by his collected smile.
A fake.
Somehow nothing made sense, nothing seemed real, no amount of working or enjoyment made him feel at ease.
As the door to his house was opened, the red columbine in his stand shriveled, petals droopy, as thirst for a little drop of water, even then he ignored it, too aware of his own cowardice, hanging his uniform as he made his way to the bed.
The tired body just crumbled onto the bed, not trying to hold onto consciousness as he fell into a deep slumber.
He felt weightless, the usual tiredness not heaving into his shoulder.
A patch of small sunflowers surrounded him, someone sitting amidst it, a laughter familiar to him.
They said something that he couldn't quite understand, but before he could ask anything, they walked towards him, taking his hands into theirs, comforting and warm just as he remembered.
They laughed before bursting into hundreds of birds of paradise, colourful and filled with emotions.
Link didn't have any time to process it, however, as his eyes opened, the rays of light shone down on him as yet another day started.
Repeating it all once again.
He wished to sigh, but staying still at the same place for so long wouldn't do him any good, and only make him pity himself even more.
Just as he opened the curtains of his bedroom, his eyes widened, the place that should have been a vast open hill, was now covered in a patch of sunflowers, much like the dream he just had.
Not even bothering to take his usual uniform, he headed out in a flurry, tripping over his own feet as he stumbled towards the door.
As he opened it, the sight that greeted him was a familiar, yet unknown figure, surrounded by the townsfolk, all carrying bouquets of sunflowers, and placing it around the now covered patch of land.
The mysterious person's eyes met his, and they didn't hesitate before approaching him, the white-pink valerians in their arms standing out among the bright yellow blooms everyone else held.
“I'm sure you didn't expect it, Link.” Their familiar voice rang inside his heart, and he unknowingly smiled at it.
“You… how..?” So many questions flooded his head, yet no coherent words came out.
Scalding hot tears brimmed around his eyes, and with a soft smile they brushed it out of his face.
“I'm sorry that it took me so long to get to you my dear.” They answered with a melancholic smile, offering him the valerian bouquet.
He hesitated for a second, yet the moment he saw the guilt in your eyes, he carefully took it, not wasting any more time before taking you into a warm embrace.
“I missed you so much…” Link said.
“Me too, Link.” You sobbed into his arms.

Ace Wedding Night
Look, maybe they should have had this conversation when Ravio moved in. Definitely should have had it by the time they started dating. Absolutely should have had it when Legend proposed.
But it's his wedding night and "should have" isn't helping.
The ceremony was stellar, all the Chain helping take on some work to lighten the load. He'll admit, he cried when Time agreed to be the one to "give him away" since he had no living relatives to do so. Ravio looked stunning in his black wedding gown, a cold shoulder mermaid dress. Impa ordained the whole deal, and Fable hugged and congratulated her brother at the reception.
Honestly, while he was nervous about it in the days leading up to the wedding, Legend had entirely forgotten about tonight. lost in the joy of getting married, and making merry at the reception.
But now it's at the forefront of his mind. Ravio kissed him, long and heated, then said they should both take a shower before they started the rest of the night. The implications weren't lost to Legend, especially when the merchant fixed him with a heated, half-lidded stare.
Legend was stuck in the bathroom, though. He long finished his shower, but didn't move to turn off the water. He was scared. Once he did that, there was no going back. Ravio already showered, dressing in a sheer silk black nightgown. He was probably expecting Legend to come out in his own nightclothes, then they'd kiss and get on the bed and. Ugh.
It was stupid. Legend liked Ravio. He liked the idea of doing something nice for the merchant. Kisses and cuddles were great, and he couldn't get enough of them. But the idea of going further seemed so gross. Even if he tried to imagine it with Ravio, he couldn't get over how little any part of it appealed. Sweat, and saliva, and skin on skin. His stomach lurched.
"Link?" There were two knocks on the bathroom door. "Everything all right in there?"
He should respond. Say he's ok, and burst out in a big romantic gesture to scoop Ravio up and please him. He was a Hero Of Courage, dammit! Something this normal shouldn't be paralyzing him with fear.
"I'm coming in."
Legend wanted to stop him, to reassure him that everything was alright, but fear rendered him mute, just the same as when he was a child staring at his own wanted poster on the castle walls.
Oh, he was crying.
The moment Ravio saw him, he raced to his side in alarm. "Link? Are you ok? Are you hurt? What's going on?" The merchant took Legend's face in his hands, scanning to figure out what was wrong.
Legend tried to respond, but there was a ball of anxiety in his throat. Gently, Legend pushed Ravio back so the merchant could see his hands.
'I'm sorry. It's my fault.' He repeated the apology in circles over his chest.
Ravio switched to sign as well, eyes wide. 'What is? What's wrong?'
'I don't know why I'm scared. I love you." He should explain, but the concept was looming, terrifying. If he named it, it felt like it would break what little hold he still had over his emotions.
Ravio lifted his hands, seeming as if he was trying to sign something but couldn't find the words. This, his mouth formed a little 'o', some realization dawning on him. Then, his hand moved, forming a hook near his cheek with his other index finger crossed over it as he brought it up to his ear.
Legend blinked, uncomprehending. Ravio tilted his head, then nodded in understanding.
'Sorry, that's a sign my friend made up. It's for A-S-E-X-U-A-L.' Ravio fingerspelled quickly. Had he practiced that word a lot?
'Asexual?' Legend repeated the sign Ravio made earlier. Oh, it made sense. Like crossing out 'sex'.
'So are you?' Ravio said, his face filled with a terrifying patience.
Legend hesitated. At least Ravio had heard of the term before. That helped calm the ball of anxiety, albeit only enough for him to speak.
"I am. I'm sorry I didn't warn you earlier. I just- I really do love you. I kept meaning to tell you, but I was so scared you'd think there was something wrong with me, or want to break up," Legend's voice hitched. How cowardly was he? If this was information Ravio was going to break up with him over, he should have told him before they were married! He was scum.
"Hey, hey, it's ok. Bun, look at me?" Ravio used the pad of his thumb to brush away the renewed tears. "I'd suspected something like that, I just didn't want to assume."
"Wait, what?"
"You never initiated or showed any interest, and every time we made out, you'd always stop the moment things started to escalate. I'm not stupid, you know?"
"It's not because of you, I promise. It's like this with everyone, I swear you're beautiful and you look so pretty in that nightgown-" Legend stopped abruptly as Ravio placed a finger on his lips.
"It's ok, I know what asexual means. Hilda is the same way. She got so frustrated with suitors not understanding that she wasn't interested in going farther with anyone. They always thought they were this exception, or they'd convert her. I know it isn't about me." Ravio smiled softly, grabbing Legend's hands to hold them reassuringly.
"I'm sorry. I should have told you," Legend hiccuped.
"I know it's scary. A lot of people wouldn't react well." Ravio squeezed his hands gently.
"Do you want to split up?" It was a whisper, raw and vulnerable.
Ravio had the gall to laugh at him. "If I needed sex, our relationship wouldn't have lasted this long. It's ok, I can take care of myself. If all you want is cuddles and kisses, I've been prepared for that."
Legend squeezed Ravio's hands back. All that fear melted away in a single sentence. It was almost unfair. "I love you so much."
"I know." Ravio kissed him, and when Legend cried, they both knew they were happy tears this time.

The thought first occurred to Warriors during the war. Everyone told him that the war wasn't his fault and at the beginning of the war, he even believed it. He kept believing it until he met Cia in person at last. It was hard to believe anything or in anything after that.
Princess Zelda tried to comfort him afterwards but she was better at taking action than words. She liked to fix things with her own hands. Neither of them knew how to fix something which couldn't be killed with a sword.
General Impa had some of the words, enough for Warriors to know that she had dealt with something like this before. It made him feel a little better and more humiliated at the same time. It made it clear that she knew exactly what happened to him. Worse: it was clear that she knew what he was thinking.
As the war continued and traitors arose through their own choices and Ghirahim's magic, Warriors couldn't fight the thought anymore. The war was his fault. Maybe some of those traitors were right. Maybe there would be no war if there was no war prize.
More than anything, it was the thought of Mask and Tune which kept Warriors fighting. No one knew if Cia would turn to them if she lost him. Warriors would stand and raise his sword every day for the rest of his life rather than risk it. Better he be the war prize than them.
After the war, it was harder. Princess Zelda and General Impa were there but everyone else was gone. Mask and Tune were gone. The loneliness was stifling and the whispers in his mind were deafening without his friends to block them out. He was alone. His battle was done. The Master Sword was returned, and despite Zelda's best attempts, Warriors felt like a symbol at best, a war prize at worst.
When the portal opened and Warriors was reunited with Time and Wind and met the others, he thought it would be better. He had his loved ones back. He had a purpose again. Everything was supposed to be okay.
He was wrong.
Why did he still feel like this? Warriors wrapped his arms around his legs and rested his forehead against his knees. They were at Twilight's village and his brother was ecstatic. He was off showing everyone else his home, and Warriors was hiding in Twilight's treehouse home. He should be with his brothers but was instead doing this.
Everyone was stressed. This was their first real stop in weeks. The number of black-blooded monsters seemed to have increased in the last month. This stop seemed like a gift from the Three.
Warriors knew his role. He knew he should be with his brothers, encouraging Twilight and asking questions, goading the others to laugh, reminding Time to rest his burdens for a moment. Warriors knew the importance of these rest periods and the best ways to take advantage of them to return refreshed to the battlefield.
He should be with them. He should be fine. Why was he like this?
Warriors dug his nails into his scalp and ground his forehead into his knees. It hurt and sometimes, pain snapped him out of it. Sometimes, he purposefully sought pain just for relief from these thoughts. It felt better for skin and bone to hurt rather than whatever was happening inside him.
"Make it stop," he whispered. Warriors needed it to stop or at least quiet enough so he could join his brothers.
Warriors knew one way for it to stop. One way for it to stop forever.
He whimpered quietly. Impa told him not to trust his thoughts in these moments. She warned him that they would spiral, and if he allowed it, he would drown in the whirlpool. He knew his thoughts were bullshit. He knew it.
His brothers loved him. He was needed. Queen Zelda would notice if he never came back. His friends would notice if he didn't return from this quest.
If Warriors kept telling himself that, he might even believe it.
"Warriors."
Warriors tensed. His breathing sped up. Oh Goddess. Not Legend. He didn't want any of the others catching him like this, but not the Veteran.
"Warriors. Hey. Hey. Can you look at me?"
Legend, who had gone through so many adventures and was still going, still fighting, and he did it all younger than Warriors. As if Warriors needed more reminding that --
"Link!"
Warriors's breath caught and he choked on it. He coughed into his knees and trembled. His head ached.
Legend knelt beside him, the protective concern in his eyes like a knife through Warriors's chest. He couldn't remember Legend ever looking at him like that. "Hey," Legend repeated. "I need you to breathe for me. In and out. Nice and slow." He reached out and gently took Warriors's hands in his own. They were thin and scarred and strong. Warriors felt guilty for it but clutched his hands, anyway. His scalp hurt where he had been grabbing it. "Breathe with me."
Warriors felt foolish and weak, but he obeyed. He was good at following orders. He breathed in slowly and matched Legend's breath. His eyes burned but the pain in his chest slowly began to recede.
"Good," Legend murmured. "Thank you. Keep breathing with me."
Legend squeezed his hands, and Warriors desperately clutched Legend's hands back. Anything to keep from flying away.
"I'm here with you," Legend said softly. The tenderness on his face made Warriors want to cry. "You're okay."
He was okay. Warriors repeated that to himself and held it to his heart like an anchor. He was okay. This would pass. It always would.
What broke him and made Warriors weep wasn't the gentleness in Legend's eyes but the understanding.
The only thing worse than feeling this way was the possibility that one of his brothers had felt like this, too.

“Will You Marry Me?” - Sidon x reader
Tumblr media
“I have no idea how to word this and I’m so sorry if it’s a bad request but randomly I just thought of Sidon and hylian reader being friends when they were younger and Sidon asking her to marry him or something (the zora way), and she just responds with “if you can ask me that same question in a hundred years, I’ll marry you” and then they meet up again a hundred years later cause we started traveling with link and now they are sitting in the same spot and Sidon asks the same question😭 I know this is really bad but like” - anon
oh. mY. GOD! THE FEELS!! the friendship. the passing of time. everything. everything about this request is great. trust me, you did the lord’s work here by sending this in :’)
i had this all written out, and wanted to wait to post this one tomorrow. however, i’m feeling emotional tonight, and i felt posting it was needed.
i hope you enjoy (because this one is probably one of my favorites) <333
y/n - your name
“When we’re old enough, will you marry me?”
you were just kids
play pretending around the Bank of Wishes
but he wasn’t playing at the moment
he was serious about his statement
“Sidon… Zora’s age a little differently than Hylians…”
“I know…”
you sighed
“If you can ask me that again in a hundred years, I will.”
Sidon laughed
he knew your answer would have been different if Hylian’s and Zora’s aged the same
however, he also knew that you were both too young to get married regardless
time passed
things changed
but your friendship never faded
never
but then
you were put into stasis
Purah and Impa thought it was best, since you were technically helping Link on his quest to save Hyrule
you wake up in a foggy haze
hardly remembering anything
‘Where am I?’
as you venture along though, your memories start to return
even before you remember Sidon and Zora’s Domain, you’re heading that way
because your body just… leads you
it remembers the things you don’t
and here you are
standing in the domain’s center
hoping that someone could lead you in the right direction
lead you to remembering why you’re here
and there’s Sidon
Vah Ruta had already been taken care of
and he was running his daily errands
when he sees you, he drops EVERYTHING in his arms
he runs to you
wrapping his arms so tightly around your body
as if you’d been missing for a century
to him, though, you had been
“Y/n!”
he’s holding you so tightly
tears streaming down his cheeks and into your hair
you’re still trying to remember
but his touch feels so familiar to you
the Zoras in the area are starting
but Sidon doesn’t care
“I’m so happy you’re safe.”
it takes some time to re-familiarize yourself with the domain
and Sidon is more than happy to help you regain your memories
he’s so understanding
and patient
oH HYLIA this man is patient
he tells you stories of your past
and stories of after you’d left
he makes everything seem so crystal clear
and once you fully regain a sense of self
and once your memories have returned
you remember what he said all those years ago
but you don’t say anything
because you know he couldn’t possibly remember something so small and silly
but still
you find yourselves sat at the Bank of Wishes
wading your feet in the water
your head laying against Sidon’s arm
and he smiles at you
“You know I love you, right?”
and you smile with a light, cheerful laugh
“I do.”
and he’s silent for a moment
he stares out into the water, thinking
“Do you remember what I asked the last time we were here? I’m sure it’s a bit fuzzy, but I wan—”
“I remember, Sidon.”
and his focus shifts to you
his eyes are wide
and he looks as if he’s seen a ghost
“I remember it well, actually. I remember the lotus flowers being in full bloom, just like they are now; how clear the sky was; how… how young we were…”
he’s silent still
“I remember.”
“Good.”
your focus on the water now
you’re half expecting him to make a joke about how young and naive the both of you were
but
he doesn’t
“My feelings for you haven’t faded, you know…”
and you simply nod, still staring at the waves in the river
he caresses your face
“Y/n…”
you turn to face him
and his eyes gleaming from the sunlight’s reflection on the water
he stares at you for just a moment before placing his lips on yours
he’s soft
he’s warm
inviting
he pulls away slowly, his hand still placed on your cheek
“Is your answer still the same?”
you don’t speak
he knows your answer
but he still wants to ask
“Y/n, will you marry me?”

I find it so funny how Impa didn't recognize Artemis while she was disguised as Sheik
Like, IMPA! SHE'S BASICALLY YOUR LITTLE SISTER, ADOPTIVE DAUGHTER IF YOU WILL! YOU LITERALLY TRAINED HER, HOW DID YOU NOT RECOGNIZE HER!?
And then when she was introducing herself as Sheik, even Warriors was like "dude you're being so suspicious right now.." HE LITERALLY SQUINTS HIS EYES! IT'S SO FUNNY TO WATCH BECAUSE SHEIK IS TRYING TO BE ALL MYSTERIOUS AND STUFF BUT HE JUST LOOKS SUSPICIOUS AND WEIRD
Also the fact that Artemis just quickly goes "hehe sorry for not saying anything Impa" is the funniest thing on the planet. I imagine that she was silently begging that Impa would forget the weeks long worrying (spoilers: she probably didn't)
It's even funnier when you take Mask into consideration because he definitely knew from day one who Sheik was. I like to think after the reveal, he just immediately bursted out laughing like a maniac because of how stupid the whole situation looked to him. He probably dangled it over poor Artemis's head so much
"Hey Zelda! Wanna see my drawing?"
"Hm? Oh yeah! Sure!"
Tumblr media
"MASK I SWEAR TO THE GODDESSES!"
I’m also shocked Impa couldn’t figure it out, but in her defense, she was DEFINITELY under a lot of stress. Wars on the other hand is a complete and utter idiot, I’m not surprised at all that he sat there squinting like “huh… sheik looks really familiar…”
I bet you Zelda took off the face covering and Wars STILL didn’t get it until Artemis said out loud, “Link are you stupid- Hello??”
Mask was for sure sitting there giggling and kicking his feet the whole time. I can just imagine Wars going around whining “THE PRINCESS IS MISSING. SHEIK WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO!” and Mask and Sheik just look at each other and try not to laugh
ALSO I LOVE YOUR DRAWING, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME YOUVE DRAWN SOMETHING IN MY ASKS AND I LOVE IT DUDE

Hyrule Warriors & LU
Okay, so this whole thing is fueled by my desire to see HW stuff not only in relation to LU, but also in general.
I mostly see just Warriors, young Time, and Wind in these stories, with very brief mentions to other characters, mainly just Ravio, Midna, Marin, HW Zelda, and Impa. Don’t get me wrong, I love these characters, but there is a whole roster of other guys you can include as well and make them be more important-because they are???
Time and Wind aren’t the only ones from their time. Darunia and Ruto may be from the Adult timeline, but they are there, they are playable characters, and no one seems to mention them, like at all. Tetra, Medli, and King Daphnes are also playable characters and are there. Aryll is also there, she speaks for Toon Link.
Time and Wind are not alone, they can still see Warriors as a big brother figure, but that doesn’t mean you can just pretend that everyone around them just doesn’t exist. I’m hoping that in general, the people in the HW fandom don’t do this, but oh my goodness I’ve never seen Medli even mentioned even once in the HW with LU stories. Maybe that’s just me, and I just need to look harder, but I still feel like these characters are underrepresented, and that not nearly enough people are simply looking at the character list for HW. I know that LU focuses on Links, but having them not interact with others that aren’t Link in a place where they clearly would just boggles the mind. Im not trying to hate on anyone, I’ve loved all the HWLU fics I’ve read, I just want to see more character interactions. And more HWLU in general.
So let me just give you all some ideas I have for HWLU/just HW fanworks. Someone might’ve already made a fic with them, and if so, please link me as I would love to read them.
Captain Link, Mask, Toon(there are so many different nicknames for this guy, but I’m just going w/ Toon rn), and Aryll are at camp. You can dive into Aryll and Toon’s relationship, as well as Link and Mask’s relationships with their own families, and at the end you can have Aryll consider Link and Mask to her brothers too. You can even add Linkle there if you want her and Link to be siblings. Aryll and Linkle can even bond! It would be sweet.
The Spirit Tracks Zelda is a playable character, in her phantom form, so I’ll call her Phantom. She knows that Tetra is her ancestor and whatever relationship she and Toon had, your choice. She and Tetra can be friends, she and Toon can be friends, she can be friends with anyone! Phantom could let Toon know about his successor, and there are a bunch of things you can do with that. She can talk about Spirit to Toon, and the adventure she had with him. This could be included in a Chain meets Spirit fic where at least Wind would know about Spirit beforehand, or the other way around with Phantom telling him all about HW! The possibilities are endless!
You can have Mask and Ruto learn about the fate of the Zoras from Medli, and wouldn’t that just be heartbreaking. I know you people love your angst, and here it is, already shining upon a silver plater.
I feel like Marin and Ravio would be friends. Have Ravio mention Marin offhandedly to Legend, maybe accidentally. Marin can be real. Ravio can have pictures of her. I know you people love Ravio.
Fi is a playable character. Like she actually is there, not just as a sword, and she does turn into a sword to beat up enemies. Have her be a character and maybe let Mask’s resentment of the Master Sword go down a bit because of her. Or have Warriors talk to Sky about her, giving him hope that one day he’ll be able to see her again.
Skull Kid is also a playable character. So is Agitha and Tingle. Do something, I don’t know I honestly don’t have any idea rn, but I do know Agitha plays a semi-important part in the plot, with Midna.
Those are all the ideas I got for now. I love HW and love how people are writing for it with LU. There is just so much more people can do, and so many characters to work with. I’m just a bit sad that people tend to forget them in favor of just having the Links, which is understandable because this is about Linked Universe. But I just feel like some people are missing out on some wonderful writing opportunities here. Or maybe that just me, and I’m being a butt, who knows.

currents the true story of mipha's grace. NPC POV (Mipha) | BotW | multichapter | rated T | incomplete - on hiatus
A thematic successor to "desire path" and "thank you for listening" in which we are getting zelink from a NPC POV as well as a metaphor through nature. I wanted to give Mipha some love because I often seen (and have done this myself) her placed in a negative or shallow light with respect to Link and Zelda's relationship in botw. I also believe deeply you can love someone completely and not be meant for each other and that is okay. Follows Mipha's diary entries/Champions' Ballad.
Tumblr media
begin again - also posted on tumblr A story for @zelinkcommunity zelink week 2023 set between BotW and Totk. A stab at explaining lots of the changes seen in TotK, specifically what happens to the Sheikah Technology. Zelda POV | pre -TotK | multichapter | rated T | complete!
The Calamity is gone. The remaining leaders of Hyrule gather for a Summit to determine the future of the kingdom, starting with how to repurpose all the Sheikah Technology. Zelda is among them, and while everyone still calls her Princess, she’s not sure she wants to lay claim to an old throne. What she really wants is to move on. She wants to continue her research, to prove her worth beyond her bloodline, and to spend as much time with Link as she can…which sounds an awful lot like what she wanted a hundred years ago…
desire path for @zelinktines24 2023 for the prompt “Oh no” NPC POV (Impa) | pre-BotW | rated G | oneshot - complete!
Impa is given a secret assignment from the King just before she is to escort Zelda and Link back to Kakariko Village for the festival of Sahasra’s Pass: make sure their arrangement is not creating “unnecessary distractions.” It seems silly for the King to be so concerned about such an implausible matter. Anyone with two eyes can see they clearly despise each other. Impa forgets she has three.
✨ amazing fanart from @marimbles
✨amazing fanart from @pitchblackespresso like someone would for @zelinkcommunity Zelink week 2022 for the prompt "statue" A love letter to side quests. Link POV | BotW | rated M | multichapter | complete!
Her voice is the string of reassurances and warnings whispered in his ear from the moment he opened his eyes. She calls out for your help. So he goes, underprepared and overconfident, in the opposite direction of Kakariko Village because a hundred years is long enough and a princess needs his help and he was someone once. (Or, Link realizes destiny is awfully hard thing to shake.)
thank you for listening NPC POV (Kass) | post BotW |rated G | short and sweet | complete!
The ancient songs collected, his teacher’s last ballad complete, and still Kass can’t help but miss the thrill of the strange Hylian’s company.  With his ever patient ear, often turned deliberately toward the accordion with his eyes closed, it was like the melody was more than just a pleasant tune. Like Kass was offering a prayer and Link was waiting for an answer.
windows for @zelinkcommunity opposites attract community event. In collaboration with @aheavenscorner who made this AMAZING artwork. ✨ Link and Zelda POV | post BotW | rated T | oneshot- complete!
Twelve years after the events of Tears of the Kingdom, the Master Sword tells Link it is finally time to put it back.
The Killing Moon BotW 1.5 before we got TotK so it's one giant guessing game leading up to what we see in the trailers. Also features my guess at the title, which I'll pat myself on the back, was pretty damn close. Heavy angst, deep dive into PTSD/trauma* Link POV | BotW 1.5 | rated E | multichapter | complete!
She asks if he remembers her. He doesn’t answer. There is quiet longing between them in moments when they are alone that Link still cannot place. He thinks he needs time but Hyrule won’t grant them peace. Especially not when there is a kingdom to rebuild and the Blood Moon still rises. But Link doesn’t want to rebuild, he just wants-

A Champion's Love: Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Chapter 1: An Excitable Zora Word Count: 2783 CW: None
Want all the chapters? -> Masterlist ~~~ <> ~~~
The sun shines down upon you as you sit atop one of the tall hills north of Lantern Lake. With a sigh, you continue to twist a blade of grass between your fingertips. Ever since waking up your thoughts have been rushing, endless, a mile a minute as you ponder the situation you find yourself in.
It was incredibly wild and bizarre. You awake in some pool with no recollection of anything beforehand. The voice of a girl unknown to you starts speaking and she somehow knows your name. You then receive this tablet called the Sheikah Slate. After a few days of working alongside an old man on the Great Plateau and figuring out these shrine puzzles, the old man reveals himself to be the spirit of the dead King of Hyrule. Next thing you know you’re traveling through the region, fending off Bokoblins and scavenging to stay alive.
Now you’re being told you’re a hero? A magnificent champion here to save the land. None of it makes any sense to you.
You still can’t remember anything. At times, you feel faint memories attempting to claw their way into your recollection. Like whispers of the past, just on the tip of your tongue, but never quite there.
That crestfallen look on Impa’s face when you revealed to her that you had no memories was still at the back of your mind. You really had been gone for a century… but why had you been put to sleep? What led to all of this? Why hadn’t you beaten Calamity Ganon before? If what the King and what Impa said was true you should have been prepared. Yet Ganon had still somehow overpowered you. He had overpowered all of you.
In spite of this, you held a small amount of faith that with time you’d get your memories back. After traveling to Hateno village to speak to a quirky scientist named Purah (who’d performed an anti-aging rune on herself and had taken on the form of a child) you had received a camera feature on the slate. Along with the camera came an album of photos. Impa had assured you that traveling to the locations of these images could potentially help jog your memory.
With a frown on your face you toss the blade of grass aside and unhook the Sheikah Slate from your belt to check your map. During your talks with Impa she told you about four ‘Divine Beasts’: mechanical creations of the Sheikah that were used by warriors to defend Hyrule. She had said to seek them out and four points had appeared on your map, seemingly coinciding with each beast.
The closest of these four points was northeast of Kakariko Village, your current location. Glancing up from the slate you could see vast wetlands, and east of that were some mountains and highlands. None of this was charted on your map, however, you would need to climb a tower to have that data be added. When you squinted, you could just barely make out what appeared to be a tower in the distance.
It was going to be quite a walk, though. You found yourself wishing you could bring your horse along. Without a horse you’d have to wade through all of that land on your own, fighting new enemies.
‘Well… no turning back now,’ you muse in your mind, adjusting the gloves of your climbing gear. After making sure all your belongings are secured, you unfurl your paraglider and get a running start, the wind whipping past as you glide over the grassy terrain.
After some trials and tribulation, specifically a rather nosy ice Wizzrobe, you had scaled the tower. Inputting the slate into the guidance stone, you watched the blue runes trickle down, before implanting new map data. Taking out the slate, you gave the map a good look over.
‘Lanayru tower, huh? Lanayru wetlands to the southwest, Lanayru sea to the east, and… oh, Zora’s Domain!’ you thought excitedly to yourself. The glowing yellow point you were heading to was in the middle of a location named Zora’s Domain on the map.
You were so engrossed in your studying of the map that you jump at the sound of a voice behind you: “Wow! I cannot believe it!”
Spinning on your heel, you were a bit shocked to see someone on the tower. Upon closer inspection though, you were surprised to see what he was. A tall… blue… fish-person?
He cleared his throat before speaking once more, “excuse me! Yes, you! I am Gruve of the Zora!” You noticed the accessories he wore, silver bands and blue stones that seemed to be glowing- though it was hard to tell  in the sunlight. “It is apparent that you are a traveler, but may I ask what brought you here?” he inquired.
“I could ask you the same thing,” you replied with a smile, raising an eyebrow. You were extremely curious as to why he was up here on one of the Sheikah Towers.
“Hm… how astute of you! An excellent query indeed!” he beamed, and you almost blushed at the sudden praise.
“I, by the order of Prince Sidon of Zora’s Domain, am searching for a Hylian. Or I was… but then I fell asleep. I awoke to a loud noise and awful quaking, and now here I am. I’d like to get down and be on my way, but I’m simply too high up. I need to figure something out.” he explained, and you nodded your head as you listened to the story.
You bit your tongue, thinking it perhaps best that you didn’t confess that it was your own fault he was stuck in this predicament. When you had first awoken on the Great Plateau and activated the first tower there, it seemingly caused all other towers in Hyrule to rise up from the ground- this tower just so happened to catch a Zora as it rose.
“Prince Sidon is down at the bridge below, but for some reason I cannot seem to catch his attention!” he continued on, and you glanced over the side of the tower to see a bridge down below, shrouded in mist and rain.
“We’re probably too high up for him to hear you,” you mused aloud, turning to look back at Gruve.
“Yes, you may be right… but you! You are a Hylian, yes?!” he exclaimed, grinning at you. In response you gesture to your pointed ears with a smile, as if to say ‘why yes I am a Hylian, isn’t it obvious.’.
“Well then! My luck is improving!” he said, and peered over the side of the tower so quickly you thought he was almost going to fall off. “Prince Sidon! I found one! I FOUND A HYLIAN!” he screamed, nearly blowing out your eardrums.
Leaning over, you squint your eyes to try and look down at the bridge. You could see an extremely faint red figure… but it was hard to make out if that was a person or not due to the rain.
“Hmm…” Gruve sighed, pulling his body away from the edge, “Prince Sidon doesn’t seem to notice my struggle… Perhaps I should swallow my fear and jump into the river below. Then I could return to him! He must be worried sick…” he mumbled, mostly speaking to himself and not you.
You watched him for a few curious seconds, wanting to know if he’d go through with that plan or not. “No! Nope! Can’t do it! I’m too high up. I’ll likely meet the gods of the ever after before I ever see Prince Sidon again…” he muttered, before turning to face you with a sincere expression.
“Miss Hylian, I must apologize…” he continues, though you bristle a little at being called ‘Miss Hylian’. “It will be some time before I can get back to Prince Sidon. Please, you must leave me here and go on ahead.”
With a nod you pat him on the shoulder and smile. “I’m alright with that. Here, would you like some fish? I’ve caught plenty, this one is raw though,” you offer, looking through your bag before pulling out a Hyrule Bass you had wrapped in a Korok Leaf.
“Oh yes please! Thank you so much, Miss….?” he exclaims, taking the fish in his hands and looking down at you curiously.
You say your name with a grin before shutting your bag and strapping it over your shoulder. Stepping onto the ridge at the edge of the tower top, you watch his eyes grow wide as he stares at you. With a flourish, you hop off the edge and spread your paraglider open, enjoying the feeling of the wind rushing past as you head for the glowing bridge down below.
Your boots make a soft pitter patter on the wet grass once you land. Folding the paraglider back in, you tuck it away before looking around. The rain was beginning to soak through your clothes, but you just hoped everything in your bag would be intact.
Focusing your attention on the bridge before you, you unhook the Sheikah Slate from your belt, curious to know the area you were now in. ‘Inogo Bridge, crossing over the Zora river. Yup this is the right place,’  you think, before hooking the slate to your belt again.
As the grass turns to dirt, you’re careful not to slip on the muddy ground. Looking around the area, you couldn’t seem to see anyone. ‘Where is this supposed Prince Sidon?’ you wonder. Taking a few more steps towards the bridge, you’re suddenly stopped in your tracks at the sound of a voice calling out to you.
“Say, hey there! Young one!”
You spin around, searching for the source of the voice, incredibly confused. ‘Where- hold on, young? I’m over a hundred years old!’
“Up top! Above you!”
Glancing up, you watch in awe as a red Zora jumps off of one of the bridge’s look out points and lands flawlessly in front of you. He towers over you, at least three times your size. You stare up at him curiously, taking in his features. The main things that stood out to you were the hammer-head tail, and the attire he was decorated with: jewelry adorned his body along with a plume on his head, deeming him royalty.
You can’t help but feel somewhat intimidated by him.
It was the prince of the Zora after all, in the flesh. ‘He seems familiar… why do I feel as though I’ve seen him before…?’ you wonder, a bit lost in your thoughts as you gaze up at him.
“Pardon the entrance, but you’re a Hylian, aren’t you? I was hoping perhaps you’d have a moment to talk,” he explained, and you quickly nod your head yes, just as you had done with Gruve atop the Lanaryu tower.
“Aha! A Hylian! Yes, I knew it!” he cheers happily, “oh, pardon me… I am Sidon, the Zora Prince!” He grins, striking a bit of a silly pose that made you smile, and you could’ve sworn you even saw a sparkle in his sharp teeth.
“And what is your name? Go on, please tell me!” he inquired, and just from his demeanor it was clear he genuinely did want to know you, and wasn’t just doing this for formality’s sake.
“Uhh- I’m-” you stammer, cursing yourself for the way you suddenly stumble out your words. You felt your cheeks grow warm out of embarrassment, but quickly ignored it as you eventually spit out your name.
“What a fantastic name!” he complimented, which caused you to blush even more.
“Oh, it’s not that special,” you laughed slightly, putting your hands on your belt and fidgeting with the fabric of your shirt to distract yourself from how flustered you were getting.
He seemed to be looking at you a bit more intrinsically and you looked around awkwardly, not knowing why. “Hmm, though I cannot shake the feeling that I have heard it somewhere before…” he continued, putting his hand to his chin as he seemingly thought about it.
‘Maybe in a story or something… possibly about the champions. But he can’t possibly be over a hundred years old.’
“Well, in any case, it is a strong name! To be honest, I’ve been watching you. I’ve seen the way you work. I can tell by how you carry yourself that you are no ordinary person.” he concluded, smiling at you, “you must be a strong warrior among the Hylians, correct?”
You take a moment to mull over the question in your mind. “Uhh… sure?” you answered, despite being rather unsure of yourself. ‘A hundred years ago I probably would have answered that with confident certainty… now though… hmm…’
“Aha! Just as I suspected! I am a Zora prince, after all. I have an eye for talent that is unparalleled! Yes! Exquisite! I have been searching for someone like you for a long while. A woman like you who carries herself with power!” he gushed, just as excited as earlier.
Now you were really blushing. All the compliments and praise were making your cheeks burn despite the cold rain coming down on the two of you.
He explained the current issue at hand to you briefly. One of the Divine Beasts, Vah Ruta, was causing trouble in their land by bringing about a constant downfall. You pondered momentarily that this shouldn’t be much of an issue for the Zora, they are an aquatic race after all and lived in the water. But once you considered the future ramifications this would cause, such as the flooding of rivers and dams, you realized how devastating this could truly be.
That factor served to add more purpose to gaining control of the Divine Beast once more. Defeating Ganon and saving a civilization at the same time. How could you ever deny them the assistance?
You had zoned out momentarily while thinking of all of this, and were only pulled back to reality when you realized Prince Sidon had asked you a question, and was looking down at you expecting an answer.
“Apologies, but please repeat the question? I got distracted,” you mumbled, embarrassed that you had lost track of the conversation.
Sidon chuckled, clearly amused by your apparent shyness. “I asked if you would come back to Zora’s Domain with me? To overcome Vah Ruta!” he clarified, bearing a confident smile as he spoke.
You quickly nodded your head, droplets of water flying about as you did. “Of course I will,” you smiled, a strong want to help those in need sparked inside of you.
Sidon thanked you immensely, taking your hands into his own and shaking them gratefully. You were caught off guard by the texture of his hands. His scales were flat and smooth and slick, likely from the constant rain. Without meaning to you stare at his hands, and when you glance back up at the prince he realizes how long he’d been holding your hands for. All too quickly, he releases you from his grasp, which leaves you feeling oddly disappointed.
The two of you briefly discussed how you’d have to traverse the area- due to the rain you wouldn’t be able to scale the cliffs. You’d be forced to follow the path the Zora had carved, and though it was convenient, it winded around the river and was likely to be crowded with monsters, likely electric ones due to the weather.
Once you were done going over the plan, Sidon stood up straight and struck his signature pose once more. “Don’t give up! I believe in you!” he exclaimed, but had a peculiar look on his face when he suddenly remembered something. “Oh! That’s right! I have something I would like to give you! This is just a small trinket to show that I have faith in you,” he informed you, reaching into a pouch and pulling out a small vial of yellow-green liquid - an electro elixir.
‘Convenient,’ you muse.
He explained that the elixir’s effects seemingly don’t work on the Zora themselves, so he’s been unable to use it until now. The two of you bid your goodbyes, Sidon letting you know he’d swim upstream to make sure the path was clear for you. Then he sprung backwards, doing a spectacular flip into the water.
You laughed a bit watching his red form shoot through the river and head up the small waterfall. ‘What a show-off… a genuine, nice show-off though,’ you think, smiling to yourself before turning back to the bridge.
You prepare yourself, a broadsword you’d managed to scavenge in hand, before setting off to Zora’s Domain.

Hello, I recently read one of your Morpheus fic and I really like it🤭 and I'm hoping to make a request, where reader is also an immortal like Hob and have been friends with Dream but reader loves him (but dream doesn't know that) but then dream goes falling in love with all these other people and starting to spend less time and forget about reader then they snap and finally confessed (like the scene in little women, where Amy admitted to laurry "not when I spent My entire life loving you") and reader leaves and avoids/hides from dream. After many years he finally found reader again and they reconcile and get together. Angst then fluff in the end✨
Sorry this is such a long message, I hope you are doing well, thank you✨

It had been 10 minutes since the start of their wait. Johanna was unfazed, but Dream was growing impatient. So much in fact, it was really grinding her gears, "aren't you literally endless?" She dusts off her coat for no reason, "how can you be so impa-"
"I find the wait unnecessary," Dream interrupts.
"Well, we're not the only who wants their time."
"Yes. But must you insist on waiting for-"
"There is only one Keeper of Knowledge that I trust," Johanna snaps at Dream from the bench they were sat next to, "and that's-"
"Constantine," I smile, then I don't. I watch as Johanna stands, along with-
"My keeper," she smiles as she releases a breath. She notices where my attentions were then looks between us, "oh, right. Thi-"
The both of us speaking each other's names cut her off.
"Oh," Johanna says, "so, you're already acquainted," she purses her lips, "an unfortunate fate."
"It has been long since we've met," Dream speaks with familiarity. The richness of his voices makes my chest constrict. The telltale glassiness of his dazzling blue eyes makes his gaze unbearable.
"Yes, it-"
"Too long," he steps forward.
My pulse quickens. What was he doing?
Johanna turns from me to Dream, her face contorts at his expression. "Right," she says, not knowing what else to. She grabs my arm, "I need to check the archives on logs for mystic artifacts."
I turn to Johanna, doing my best to ignore Dream altogether, although he has moved too close to my taste. I offer her a soft smile, "of course."
Johanna smiles back, releasing me.
"I assume you have your pass now?"
For a moment, she measures my words. She taps her foot then crosses her arms. She releases a breath, "that's cold. You know they haven't released it yet."
I shrug, shaking my head, "I don't make the rules."
"I am her pass," Dream states, making the both of us turn to him.
My stomach begins to roll. A flush of memories of him spring up in my mind. I will them away in silence.
Dream tilts his head up proudly, "you would dare not deny the King of Dreams and Nightmares knowledge he himself has imparted to your collection."
I watch the corner of his lips curve. He was jesting, although at it's core, his words were sincere. My brows furrow at this. It was not like him to egg people on... there must be another reason why he was acting out of character.
Johanna nods and points, "what he said."
I sigh, turning from him to her before walking away. When they do not follow, I look over my shoulder and knit my brows, "well, are you two just gonna stand there?"
The three of us then make it deeper into the place. I lead them into one of the atriums and greet a few other keepers along the way.
Once we make it to the relatively unvisited area, I stop in my tracks and turn to Johanna, trying hard not to look at Dream. I motion to my right, calling their attention to the sign, "this is the area for ancient and obsolete artifacts."
Johanna's wide eyes take in the room. I know Dream keeps his gaze upon me.
"Knowing you, Constantine," I lick my lips, "I lead you a bit deeper into the archive. This is where weaponry starts."
"Brilliant," she notes, moving off to start her hunt.
I add with a huff, "also knowing you, I'd ask if you could be a bit more specific, but-"
"That's why I like you," she says as she pulls out one of the files, "you don't ask stupid questions."
Had it just been the two of us, I would have rolled my eyes at her like I always did. But the feel of Dream staring at me made me want to scream, and so I catch myself before I do something I would regret.
"I'll leave you to it then," I mutter, before making the grave mistake of checking Dream's expression. The pleased undertone of his face made me sick. I turn to my side when Johanna calls, "thanks a billion, babe."
I forfeit a response.
I push past him, sucking in a breath as I make it down the hall.
I feel my spirit grow lighter with every step I take that brings me farther away from him.
And yet I begin to feel stuffy all over again.
I gasp when someone grabs my hand.
I turn over and find Dream holding me. His face was soft, his lips were parted as though he had something to say but forgot it.
I am frozen in my spot. The feel of his hand in mine burns.
When he speaks my name, like an ancient call that had been forgotten, I snap out of my trance and recoil my hand
His expression twitches at it.
"How can I help you, my lord?'"
Dream presses his lips at the sound. He appreciated the reverence, the acknowledgment, but he was not 'my lord', he was Dream.
"You may call me Dream," he says.
My brows raise in bewilderment.
His expression slips because of it and quickly adds, "it has been a while since we last shared company, but I assure you, I am not fickle; change is a momentous occurrence for me. My feelings for you has not faded through time."
Feelings.
"Yes," Dream nods, "my feelings."
I clench my jaw shut. My blood rises up my neck when I realize I said that out loud.
My breathing is taxed when I shake my head, "what do you want?"
His brows knit at the sudden harshness of my tone.
I heave, mentally cursing myself for being so translucent.
In the silence that thickens between us, Dream's expression begins to shift when he tries to find reason to my words. He allows himself to relax slightly, "I wanted to ask how you have been."
My jaw slacks.
"You look well, as always," he places his hands behind his back, "but I know better than to assume one's temperament, especially when I have experienced some world bending things in the past century."
I am dumbfounded by his words, and it is suddenly clear to me why he was acting like this, why he was acting like nothing had happened between us. He looked at me like this because he does not remember our last meeting. My broken and bloody confession. I chuckle bitterly, and he says his feelings have not changed. He has forgotten me.
I don't know what hurts more, that he is treating me with such friendly indifference in spite our unsavory final conversation, or that fact he blocked out the memory from his being altogether.
"Are you stupid?" I mutter under my breath.
I was unsure if I wanted him to hear me when I said it, but hear me he did. It was clear with how his face contorted.
I grip my hands as I feel my throat constrict, "or perhaps," my voice breaks as it gets a level louder, "you're only heartless."
Dream tilts his head as anger laces his features. He speaks my name as though it was a warning, confused, insulted.
"We're not friends, Dream," I quip, feeling my emotions betray me when my eyes fog with tears. I helplessly mumble, "we were barely even lovers."
The sound of my breathing makes nips at him.
I knit my brows and grip my hands, "your feelings for me don't exist," I shake my head, "not in the way you think."
His brows tighten. He steps forward, calling my name.
It sends me reeling. I shake my head quicker, "you do not feel for me! You didn't then, and you surely don't now."
"And how have you come to this conclusion?" Dream demands coldly.
"BECAUSE YOU TOLD ME SO!" I whisper-yell harshly, voice choking when tears begin to fall from my eyes. Dream's face drops. I laugh at myself, "and you've clearly forgotten it all after being imprisoned."
His face ticks at the mention. There is a darkness that flashes behind his eyes as he stares at me. He tightens in anger, it is palpable. Then all at once he is broken; he is ashamed.
My heart hurts for him, even still, after all this time. It's as though I am hearing the news all over again for the first time.
I grab his sleeve as I step forward. I turn to our feet because I cannot turn to him.
He perks at the sentiment, but it is fleeting when his gaze is not met.
"There was not a day that went by that I did not pray for your freedom."
When I find the courage to meet Dream's gaze, I cannot stop myself from catching his face and wiping his tears. To see him broken in front of me was torment. I knew well his reclusion to emotions, so to have him so vulnerable before my very eyes was a humbling experience.
It dawns unto me that in this very moment, I was doing the very thing I have always wanted. I was holding him in my hands. He was pouring himself out to me. And yet I did not want it.
Dream ghosts his hands on top of mine as his tear-laced lashes droop down.
"I hoped that you would find strength from my calls," I offer him a soft smile, "even though my musings are infinitesimal to your being."
He grips my hands, "that has no truth."
"Hasn't it?" I chuckle dryly, "you didn't even hear me."
His brows tighten further, "I was trapped. I could not hear anyone."
My heart breaks at his words, at his attempt to soothe me, to soothe himself, "we both know that isn't true."
I pull away from him, but he holds me back, calling my name.
"Dream," I mutter, "you have muddled your affections with familiarity. Your feelings now are just of that-- you are happy to see a face you have not seen in centuries."
He disagrees, "I am happy to see you because..."
When his words run dry, my heart is staked. My face contorts just as his does. He finally gets it.
I pull away from him and step back.
He does not like this. He watches me as I rub my face and offer a sad smile, "it's ok. I'm glad you remember now."
"No," he quips, "you are my friend."
I laugh.
I genuinely laugh.
Because it is ridiculous. It's pure ridicule. It's pure tomfoolery.
Yet as I gaze upon him, I find only sincerity written on him. It is maddening.
My lungs deflate, "maybe I was once... before I tore my heart out to you." I continue to step away from him.
Once I get too far, he begins making up for the space between us.
He raises a hand warily, "don't."
I shake my head, "I've spent too much time watching you fall in and out of love, wondering when I could have my chance because I know," I stab my finger into the air, "I'd never let you go-- would never hurt you."
He says nothing, there is nothing to say. He matches his strides with mine.
"You can't make me go through all that again. I won't let you."
When he says my name the next time, Johanna screams it as well from across the expanse, making me jolt.
For a moment, we are both frozen in our spot.
Johanna does not appreciate the silence. "KEEPER!" she calls, "I DON'T MEAN TO ALERT YOU, BUT I THINK I JUST BROKE SOMETHING."
I let out an exasperated breath. I run my hands through my hair, "Johanna!"
"WHAT? IT'S LIKE A MILLION YEARS OLD, YOU CAN'T BLAME THIS ON ME."
"Those documents are renewed every year!" I call off to the distance.
"..."
I huff and move past Dream.
I shove him off when he grabs my arm.
"Please," I offer him one last look, "enough of this."
He releases me, against himself, then mutters, "I do not want you to forsake me like the others."
My insides flare at his words. How dare he say this to me.
"I cannot forsake you, my lord," I say to him, although I do not spare him another glace, "because you have not had me for a long time in the first place."
I am undeterred by the flickering lights when I begin to make my way back to Johanna.
Once she catches sight of me, she rushes forward. "You can't make them hold back my pass b-" Johanna cuts herself off when she sees my face.
I sniffle and grab the ripped piece of paper from her hands. I look past her to see if she damaged anything else.
When I catch her face, she silently looks at me in concern.
I rub my nose on my shoulder, "work hazard."
Johanna's eyes dart away. Dream is there, looming in the background. It doesn't take a genius to put one and two together.
Her lips press into a line before she speaks, "like I said," she tilts her head, "an unfortunate fate."
