Personally I really like the "are you giving these children knives" moment bc it really shows how much Stede doesn’t position himself as someone who has to control or "tame" Ed. He has to ask because giving knives to kids is surprising from an external perspective, fair enough. But I really hear Stede's tone as more curious (okay maybe 1% worried) than accusing or reprimanding, and once he sees that Ed’s reasoning makes sense in relation to his emotional background (it’s also so tender and heartbreaking that Ed wants to protect children from following his footsteps, but that's another post) Stede's inmediately like "ah of course, carry on", no judgement, no urge to "correct" Ed. Stede Bonnet radical acceptance king.

If anything (worse) happens to Izzy or any of the other crew of the revenge in episode 8 I'm gonna cry, consume fanfic/fanart, and then remove canon from memory like an etch-a-sketch
Probably all at once

mmm i go back and forth all the time on whether we’re meant to see ed at the beginning of ep10 as being in a healthy place or not but i do think there’s something in the idea of like… bathrobe!ed as the exaggerated version of what ed thinks stede likes about him vs the kraken as an exaggerated version of what he thinks izzy likes about him

When Izzy first walked out I was worried that he would be made into a joke that the crew would laugh at
Tumblr media
but then he started singing and the dancing began and I realized that he wasn’t meant to be a joke at all. This is the most open and happy we’ve ever seen Izzy and the show treated it that way. Not mocking him but instead celebrating this moment.
When we talk about queer representation it’s usually just focused on queer relationships, but what I love about this episode is it shows other sides of being queer. That moment where Izzy saw Wee John doing his makeup and had a realization that he wanted that too? That is what being queer means to me. The crew singing along and cheering for him? That is what being apart of the queer community means to me.
What i love about this show is that it shows queer joy, not in a sanitized way, but in away that is messy, beautiful, and without any mockery or shame.

Really so much respect for David Jenkins. He really went "historical accuracy"? "Realism"? "Laws of physics"? Nope, we don't need those here, everything in this story is Vibes. Dinghies can travel huge distances if necessary, except sometimes not, injuries heal immediately or slowly fester, whichever the plot demands for comedy or drama respectively, a character spends several days dead/in a coma/in purgatory and then just comes back to life when his beloved shows up. Nothing is too over the top for this story, cringe doesn't exist, we'll dial all those feelings up to eleven, and we're gonna play everything with 100% earnestness, and we're gonna have a merman and it's going to be so fucking romantic. And he's right about all of it! Really the best way to do fiction.

The one thing I'm always gonna love about "Our Flag Means Death" is how Ed and Stede met each other.
I don't mean the circumstances (the raid, Stede getting stabbed, etc.).
I mean, when Ed first walked up on Stede (who was laying on the deck of a ship, bleeding out, barely conscious), and his first words to him were "The 'Gentleman Pirate', I presume...?"
And despite being close to death, Stede actually smiled a little and went, "you know me?"
...Because that's what Stede had been longing for, fame as a pirate, with the moniker he chose.
And when Stede later woke up (in the next episode), and Ed realized that he didn't know who he was, he put out his hand to shake and said, "...I'm Ed."
He didn't first introduce himself to Stede as Blackbeard, because there was a man in front of him who didn't know who he was, and he could introduce himself with his own name; as the person he'd wanted to be known as (instead of just "Blackbeard") for a long time.
They got to be who they wanted to be with each other, right from the very beginning.

thinking about how the scene where Izzy shoots himself and misses isn't actually just about "haha, see, he's not dead, he just missed", it's about how it is about Izzy Hands dying. it's about how old Izzy Hands, the toxic, tragic image of a golden age pirate, is dead; it's about how he had to kill the part that was perpetuating the horrors and the abuse to save the crew.
had he not done that, Izzy Hands wouldn't have been able to get up on the deck, because old Izzy Hands would have to abide by the rules of common sense and reality. he'd have to die tragically at the hands of the man he loves. he'd have to rot for what he's done. but he does the one thing that he wouldn't in season 1: he becomes part of the crew, and that crew never abided by real life logic. Izzy Hands climbs to the deck on one leg with a poorly treated festering stump and stands as tall as he can, in the most unrealistic fashion, and he lives.

actually on the verge of tears thinking about how after calypso's birthday ed must have woken up wrapped in Stede's arms, all soft and warm and safe. He got to watch Stede sleep and listen to his breathing... and then eventually he must have decided he wanted to do something nice for Stede, to make Stede feel just as loved as he felt in that moment!!!! And im just thinking about him carefully untangling himself from Stede's arms and sneaking out of bed, careful not to wake Stede up and going to make him breakfast!!! And even though the breakfast was kind of a jumble of random stuff it was made with so much love and I just,,..,,.., ARGHHG AUGGGHHHH OOOOHHHHH!!!!
