Oh Diavolo another friggin 20-day 2-part celestial blessing event. With fancy outfits and good cards that I have no choice but to partake in…

I’m kind of getting sick of all these long CB events like… for HDD or any other special events are maybe fine, infact it was fun during then, but 3 in a row? They’re just so draining and now they’re purposely repeatedly bringing these events over and over, because to rank near to the top or stay at your consistent place you must pull on both nightmares, and use up extra devil points for enough AP to complete all stages. They’ve realised that players use more DP with these events and will spend more because of that.

I’m debating weather I should now but I really like the cards and all…

Yk what in the end it’s a game and that’s what they want me to do, drop everything for this and pressure me into paying, so instead of taking stress I might as well leave it for the better, gosh being a f2p on this game can be very life draining…

Me when I found out it was another long CB event:

Obey Me! The Comic

I wanted to write a bit about my experiences and working on the Obey Me! Manga!!! It’d be fun to dive into the process and challenges and just overall experience.

Sooooo I first found out about seven seas licensing it when they announced it on their Twitter. I emailed my project manager and told her that I worked on the game some years ago! (I was translating events and phone messages and updates through an agency. I don’t remember exactly which events I got to do now, but I think I translated the bunny costume cards and event… one of the mammon birthday events… a Christmas one… and many many others!! Getting the OM job was how I was introduced to them!)

So, I was put on the project. I still remembered a lot of rules and regulations about the boys and their speech style and personalities, AND I was still playing Nightbringer at the time, so it wasn’t hard for me to pick this up. (Thank goodness I also kept all of my notes!)

This manga was a lot different from the previous manga work I’ve done…mainly because it’s based on a game and used a lot of text from the game.

There are two routes we can take when we work on works that have previously translated and published content. We can either retranslate everything from scratch, or…we dive into the translated content and try to stick as closely to it as possible.

I always prefer option 2, because in the eyes or the reader/fans, that’s what they’re most familiar with. There are legal issues with that sometimes, so not everyone is given that luxury… but luckily I was able to for this book.

I cracked open my Obey Me! game and diligently went through the first few lessons

I don’t think I’m allowed to show my script, but every time the book used lines from the game, I’d copy it from the game and highlight it, making a comment to the editor about exactly which lesson it’s from so that the editor will know that these are direct lines from the game.

The whole reason I bothered doing this (and it takes way more time pulling lines than translating the text myself btw) is because I thought, as a fan, seeing the familiar text would feel more welcoming. If I was a reader, I’d feel so happy and I might even start comparing the game and the book just to see the same text… because this is the Obey Me world, made for the fans and for the people. If the Japanese audience got to experience the same text as it’s pulled from the game, then the English audience should too…at least, that’s how I felt!

A bit about the translation process… once the script is handed in, I have little to no idea about how much of that script ends up in the final product. So for this title, I had SO MANY NOTES to the editor to tell them about things that can’t be changed (example- The Great Mammon is mammon’s way of addressing himself. Don’t change that!! And there’s mammon’s iconic yell- d’aaaah!). I took a quick flip through volume 1 and I’m really glad the editors kept what needed to be kept and did an absolutely fantastic job with this title! 💕💕💕

I’ve been wanting to write something about OM for a while, but it took a really long time for the company to send me copy of the book 😅

But this is actually because they had very limited copies left… I guess it sold really well?!?! I never had a book with this issue before…

So to end this blog post off, I want to thank all of you for purchasing the book and supporting OM!! Thank you so much for loving this world…and I’m always so honored to be able to bring some of that to the western world.

Okay, hear me out.

Lots of people go on about OM! having lackluster events, up to and including the current Christmas event for some. I also believe that there could be a bit more in these bimonthly tests of our sanity for pretty PNGS. But what could you do that could catch the interest of those wanting a good story AND possible fanservice?

Easy. It's already an integral part of the game.

Ruri-chan and her series has been brought up many times through the Obey Me! universe, whether through Levi fanboying over her in stories or being the backdrop for the Main Story progression in Nightbringer. But outside of little tidbits, we've never fully delved into the story of the series within a series, leaving so much room open for development and interpretation.

So imagine an event like this: through some cursed item, all the brothers are transported into an episode/movie of Ruri-chan, able to interact with the world at will, but unable to leave until the credits roll. Levi (who would easily be the UR for the event) could predict everything that would happen through memory, and theoretically they could just sit in a corner and wait. However, one of the brothers mess something up and the plot is altered, characters acting different in order to align with the new situation. Levi can't predict the events anymore, but can get a basis of what is happening. However, because of the alteration, Ruri-chan can't defeat the enemy threatening the city and keeping the brothers trapped...but can with a little help.

And this is where I bring to you the hook for those who don't give a crap about the story.

Three words: Demonic. Magical. Boys.

And I'm NOT talking about Power Rangers or something like Tuxedo Mask (though that would be cute for MC). I'm talking frills, bows, and adorable wands, full-on Boueibu style!

If they wanted to get even MORE daring, don't limit it to card art of them in the uniforms. Go straight Celestial Blessing and let them have models!

Obey Me Nightbringer "Exciting Inn-cidents!" Pop Quiz

!WARNING SPOILERS FOR EVENT!

My opinion on the event!

The event started off pretty decent, everyone being assigned roles by Barbatos personally. It showed how much trust he has in everyone! And honestly I didn't need this event to be super exciting after the big Christmas one. So going around to the diffrent sections helping where needed was nice.

Things got kinda weird here... it kinda felt like they were saying it's a bad thing to be a Otaku and as one myself...not a fan. Also it puts Levi down as we are saying his personality is 'bad'. Same with constantly having to tell Solomon not to cook (at least Raphael is supportive!).

I know Diavolo booked the whole place, but it would have been a better story line if Dia accidentally booked some rooms at the same time as a convention group and we as the staff had to rely on Levi to teach us how to best serve customers.

This was nice :3

I LOVE fireworks! Idk for some reason if I'm expecting them they lull be into a state of calm instead of giving me sensory overload. Happy they were in both timeliness so we could watch them alone with Satan, but also watch whole group.

Final thought... where was Diavolo this whole time?! He's not the kind of guy to not even check in on us personally even once!!

Currently I have 33 Demon Vouchers in Nightbringer and 26 Demon Vouchers (as well as 2 SSR Vouchers) in OG Obey Me!

So... It will be interesting to see what happens please give me lots of luck, Mammon! (人>_<)

Solomon's birthday is almost here as well, and I assume we'll be getting a new card for him too... which I REALLY want to try for, but I don't know if I'll be able to ( ; n ; )

The choices are impossible lol

Luckily, I am at least decently prepared for the event itself. I've accumulated 102 D-Energy and have almost 1200 AP saved so far. So I'm feeling cautiously optimistic there xD

Setting all of that aside, I'm super curious to see what the new outfits will look like! ^^

My thoughts on part one of the 2023 Christmas holiday event. Part 2!

I'm a bit late writing this... do I even remember what happened?? lmao

Love when they slip in the protective older brother parts! I often forget how strong willed Levi can be cause he choses to be passive, but his status really shows in these moments

The whole thing with the candles was really funny xD in the one story line we, as the candle, float into the air like a UFO - zoom! and in the other one everyone gets on top of each other to get mc on top of the tree. Which turns out could have been done using mage hand instead!

I can't remember what I picked here?? watch?? But anyways good Satan character development!

A little Mephi moment here :3

I was so hopeful for some Diavolo and Lucifer alone time, but no I had to be there, Ahhhhh! Please let them have a heart to heart alone in these situations!

This is so cute Mammon! think it was in regards to the competition?? I can't remember *sweats*

I was wondering if they would include Thirteen in this and this was a lovely and relevant way to do so!

Private convos with each character :

My relationship has really progressed with Levi (Levi asked me out *cries*) and Lucifer! Very glad they added this 'private' talk part in with trying to boost the Christmas spirit. It was a good vibe check for relationships with characters thus far.

Illuminated portraits are cool! Picked the top option because it felt the most genuine in the situation.

Overall this event was pretty fun!

Obey Me! Nightbringer "Happy ⭐️ Holidays!" Pop Quiz pt.1

!SPOILER WARNING FOR THE EVENT!

My thoughts on part one of the 2023 Christmas holiday event.

Okay so first off I have to talk about the sprite outfits. They are split into 2 types; Santa's (??) (The brothers) and reindeer (everyone else). Personally I think all the 'Santa' ones are kinda meh, prob cause some of the brothers colours are not holiday colours. The reindeer ones are adorable and fit the holiday spirit great, except Luke's. Luke's is just kinda lacking, they could have taken him out of his beret just this once. Solomon's is my favorite! It looks so comfy.

It felt like there was alot going on with this event so I probably missed some things.

Event starts off with the announcement of a holiday decorating competition to win the Krampus Star which grants a single wish. Probably my least favorite Christmas activity to do in a group lol but it's a good premise.

This turned into a hallmark movie real quick 🤣

Levi you good here?? Lmao

I'm just casually forced to help every one, then who ever wins I have to approve their wish. Please everyone is gonna wish for the same thing (spend Christmas with me) and I'll end up spending it with everyone anyways...

Now things start getting weird. Everyone is fighting and Barbatos figures out its a rare moon cycle that released an Dark Demon Santa (I started laughing here).

Collecting things with everyone was kinda cute. An adorable momment between Lucifer and Beel that solidified my HC that Lucifer can't say no to picking up Beel tho hes too heavy xD Also liked that Mammon got to show a bit of his responsible older brother side! <3

The spell takes over everyone and Raphael is told to break up the fights for some reason tho he has a short fuse himself.

Then somehow everyone decides not to fight and it works?? Christmas spirit??

I was basically shaking in my boots at learning Diavolo absorbing the DDS's power was the only plan and if it goes bad the Devildom would be left without a ruler for some time. Like this is SERIOUS serious! (And also makes the plot super intresting :0)

So glad they included a conversation between Diavolo and Lucifer (tho it would have been better if I wasen't there). Diavolo gave Lucifer the new start he and his brothers needed and I know if something happened to Diavolo, Lucifer would blame himself. This conversation was needed so he could know where he stood in relation to the problem/solution if I'm making any sense.

I think I'm gonna piss myself (sorry for the crude language lol)! THANK YOU BUT GIVE IT TO BARBATOS NOT ME.
