Don't Deal With The Chameleon
Summary: When Zhen still lived with the Den of Thieves, (when they were still above the streets) she asked a very simple question. Han gave her an answer, one he hoped she wouldn't forget- because he couldn't.
Warning: Potential spoilers for KFP4, though this is only canon to my rewrite, also mentions of child abuse, and implied violence.
“Why don't we try one on her?”
Zhen was only seven years old. It had been a simple question, asked absent-mindedly, as she and some of the other thieves polished up glass pearls to make them look real; they had another con they were going to pull tomorrow, selling them for some quick change to the suckers in the market. Han had a rag in hand, polishing a large glass orb, and glanced up at her.
“Hm? On who?”
“The Chameleon.”
Everyone gasped. They all stopped what they had been doing and stared at her, open-mouthed. Zhen clenched her rag tightly in her paw, muscles going tense. She never liked it when so many people stared at her. Nothing good ever happened afterwards. She glanced around, searching for an escape.
Han provided it. He glanced around at the rest of the gang and then waved his claws dismissively.
“Alright, everyone, clear out. I need to have a talk with Zhen, real quick. I think it's time to explain the Rules to her.”
One of the older members- an antelope, a woman Zhen only vaguely knew- gave Han some sort of look she was too young to decipher, though she was street smart enough to guess she probably wasn't supposed to. Han chewed the inside of his cheek irritably and waved her off, too, more vigorously than the others.
“Yeah, I can handle it. It's fine. I'm just going to explain a little something. It's educational. It'll be good for her.”
Now Zhen wondered if this was going to hurt; none of the thieves had ever actually hurt her before, Han especially had never even made such a threat, save as a joke- but Zhen had been around angry adults before, who had defined “educational” as hitting a child after she stole an orange to feed herself. She clutched the rag she held tighter, bearing her teeth just a little as he approached.
The pangolin just stood and looked down at her for a moment, searching. Then he sighed.
“Relax, kid. I’m not going to beat you. You asked a question, so I’m going to answer. It’s just a long story. I’ll make it shorter: once upon a time, there was a monkey named Bo, a snake named Biming, an antelope named Zimo, a leopard named Jun, and a little owl named Nuwa. Got that?”
Zhen nodded. She did relax some, now the threat was averted. Han smiled and nodded.
“Good. Now, here's the tricky part: they were some of the greatest thieves the Den had ever seen- the entire city had ever seen, probably, possibly the entire world- but that's boasting. Anyway: they made a great team, and they were very talented. Could steal the very pants off you before you even realized it- and in broad daylight.
They were good. When the Den had them, things were running smoothly. Everyone had more than they could eat and plenty of money to spend- Yeah, this was waaay before you. And then, Bo- remember, that's the monkey- he got this funny idea one day, right? He says to me, ‘Hey, let's pull a heist on the witch up on that hill’.”
Han sighed and flicked the rim of his hat so it bounced somewhat, then shook his head.
“...I said: ‘Bo, that's stupid. Don't let that leave your mouth around anyone else or they'll laugh you out of here’. You know what happened next?”
Zhen nodded. “He did it anyway?”
“Yeah. And somehow, this numbskull talks the others into doing it with him. Zimo comes to me about it, and Jun was in for it just because Zimo was, and Biming- I thought she had some sense, I was wrong on that one- and then Nuwa! I couldn't believe it, but hey, if anyone could do it…”
There was some sort of shift in the atmosphere of the room, something Zhen caught onto immediately. Han's whole demeanor changed- but it wasn't immediately dangerous to her, so she had no real concern with it, yet. Still, it made her fur bristle.
There were round windows here, in the old warehouse, and on one side they got a good breeze- and on the other, a great view of the city. Han climbed up onto the crate just under one of them and stood to look out of it. The rag dripped a little in his claws.
“...They said it was just going to be a quick heist, simple: just to scope the place out, you know?- Nothing serious, not yet…just to make the attempt, just to see if a real job would be worth the effort. Surely, a place that big, her, with her reputation, the way she…She had to be loaded, she had to keep all that scratch somewhere, right?”
He swallowed. The rag made a wet squelching noise as he wrung it out.
“...They didn’t come back for awhile- I knew they wouldn't, heists could take any length of time, even just the run-downs, if you had to make a quick escape and lay low for a bit…But…this…I remember-”
He chuckled. It wasn’t a funny chuckle, more of a swallowing sound, like the noise a cat would make before vomiting.
“I thought, ‘Hey, they should be back by now- I hope they weren’t dumb enough to get caught. Wouldn’t that be some bad luck’?- And- And then…”
The rag he was squeezing went tighter and tighter into a spiral, as he wrung it between his hands. His feet were getting wet, as was the crate. Suddenly, he went perfectly still. There was a soft inhalation of breath. When he spoke again, his voice was perfect and glassy.
“...Bo came back. Just swaggering back in, bragging to everyone about how they did it, he was so, so, bouncy, swinging around everywhere, the way he always was after a heist- how he always had such energy afterwards, I could never wrap my- never- that's not the point. Look, he comes in…but what about everyone else? I ask him that, we're all askin’, he puts his hands up, all ‘I'll get to that in a minute’- ‘Well, did they get caught? Where are they?’- He says, ‘Relax, I'll get to it-’”
Han made that noise again. The rag squelched again. “...I noticed something, then. I was close enough to him to see it- look, he had this scar, right? About here?” He gestured with a claw to a spot just under his jawline. Zhen nodded.
“-Yeah. About there.” Han chortled, a genuine one this time. His eyes clouded over, somewhat nostalgic through the darker haze,, a patch of sun through the rain.
“He used to like to play with knives when we were kids- cut himself bad. I remember, one time I flicked a coin at him, burst it back open, and it never really healed right- the point is: it was a bad scar. Real nasty.”
His eyes darkened again. He tightened his grip on the rag.
“...He didn't have it when he came back. I noticed that. No one else did. He was talking over everyone, going on about how they snuck by the guards, climbed the walls, picked a lock or two- the usual step-by-step, that's how he was, he liked to explain himself real well, make an epic saga of it…That was right.” He nodded to himself. “...That was right…but it wasn't.
He swung around one of the columns, and then slithering around the other side of it was Biming, continuing the story right where Bo had left off…She had a nice voice. A clear voice, she was a good singer. That was right.”
Zhen furrowed her brow, but she wasn't confused. Han saw it, and he nodded again.
“...Then Biming went around a corner, and back around here's Zimo, continuing where Biming left off. He had a slight limp, but that didn't stop him from being a good pick-pocket. He noted, too, that they had almost got caught because of that lame hoof, but Jun managed to carry him, so they got pretty far in, alright…Jun continued where Zimo left off, and he confirmed it…Jun was a big guy, but a nice guy. He loved Zimo, you know…”
He bit his lip. He blinked, hard, a couple times.
“...And then when Jun went into the shadows, out came Nuwa, stepping forward…”
His breath shuddered. Again he had to blink hard before he could continue. He imitated a hoarse, feminine voice:
“...’We got in alright, that part was easy. We snuck past the few sleeping guards, and then we came to one of the corridors- probably around the north side. We crept along, searching for the treasure trove…’”
Han paused. He was shaking. Then he took the longest breath he had taken thus far. When he spoke, the imitation of a feminine voice changed into something harder, colder.
“...’And then they ran into me.’”
His voice broke back into its own. “The Chameleon, standing right in our midst, grinning right in my face- I knew. I knew, then…I knew it, I knew it, I knew…She didn't have to string ‘em- she…she didn't have to do anything. I knew.”
Han wrung the rag between his hands. It was bone-dry at this point. His eyes remained glued to the window, the last rays of sunlight striking the deep brown of his eyes golden- the glare must have been intense, but he seemed blind to it. There was a thick silence, and she saw his lower jaw trembling, heard the softest sound of his teeth chattering together- a nervous reflex. She didn’t know Han could be nervous, or afraid.
“...Those were my friends, Zhen.” He said, softly.
Zhen clambered up onto the crate with him, but even then she had to stand on her tip-toes and haul herself up with her paws to see over the edge of the windowsill, to see what he was looking at.
The sun had set beyond it, now, and she could see the compound that loomed over the city clearly: more than that, in the blue shade the muted colors came out more distinct, and now she saw the slight discoloration on the wall facing their den. She had never seen it before, never noticed it, it had been so weatherworn, scrubbed so perfectly clean…or so it had seemed.
Her eyes widened. A small gasp escaped her, and she turned to look up at Han. He was looking at her, and he saw she understood. He handed her the rag.
“And that,” he said, “is why we don’t deal with the Chameleon. That’s the greatest rule of them all, and the one you can only break once. Don’t ever forget that.”
Then he got down off the box and picked up one of the glass pearls. He held it for a moment, rolling it this way and that in his palm.
“...Anyway, these still won't cut it. HEY! Everybody! Get your lazy tails back in here-”
And after that, everything seemed to go back to normal. Han was joking around, making threats and promises and swearing along with everyone else as they polished their goods, though Zhen was certain she wasn’t imagining the slight dampness in the mood. Her eyes kept glancing at the window, at the sliver of wall she could see where she sat, and the story played over in her mind, along with that one rule, more precious than its weight in gold.
She went to sleep that night still thinking of the stains on the wall, and Han’s chattering teeth. And she wondered to herself: if she messed up, if she did the wrong thing just once, didn’t manage to get away…would it be her face the Chameleon wore when she came back here, while the real Zhen was left hanging?

I am in a funny mood, so you get this:
A multiverse meeting – which is just hanging out, enjoying modern conveniences and shenanigans (more so from them actual adults then the kids, aside from the Dorito God Sacrifice Incident) – going about normally. There’s probably a documentary about something that makes the youngers go ‘oh!’ in turns.
Then the door is busted open and as everyone is grabbing a weapon – they see Nuwa, the Goddess of Creation herself, panting wildly, hair everywhere, holding a bundle that she full on yeets at LMK!Mac – he just caught it – and exclaims, “None of you saw me here, alright!” Then she zips away fast enough that the dust only kicked up a minute later.
“What the fu-”
“Language!”
“Oh, sorry!” Sarcasm drips, “But do YOU have any idea what is going on?!”
Then her husband Fuxi stumbles through the door, “Did any of you see Nuwa?!”
The confusion only intensifies. What was going on?
“Not recently.” LMK!SWK lies, you know, like a liar.
Fuxi just accepts it and runs out. They can hear him shouting for Nuwa, saying things like “I won’t be mad, I promise!” and “Just tell me what you and Hou Tu did!”
“What is this about?” Reborn!SWK feels very confused, the confusion is paramount, enough of it was in the air to choke an elephant.
They turned to look at the bundle – vary it was something dangerous. LMK!Mac slowly moves to open the bundle up and see its contents. You don’t need six ears to hear the heartbeats.
LMK!Mac blinks when he sees it, “Oh fuck.”
“Look now who’s swearing.”
LMK!SWK leans in and – “Fuck!”
“What is it?!” Smash!SWK nearly shrieks.
“Um…” LMK!Mac turns to reveal the bundle – to be a small demon monkey with a face marking, “It’s a baby?”
“What.”
So, yeah, that’s HOW Sun Luzhen happens – because bored gods, wine and curiosity leads to ‘fucking around and finding out’. Literally.
Now, Nuwa and Hou Tu just need to pay for child support X’D
Oh my chinese mythos gods
that is the perfect explanation for how Sun Luzhen happens XD
Nuwa and Hou Tu had a repeat one-night stand and made another stone monkey. Bonus if it was similar events that led to SWK's own creation in some theories XD
For all we know, Fuxi is the third parent in the genetic mess that is Mystic Monkeys.
Poor LMK Shadowpeach now got another baby to deal with. At least little Luzhen seems to adore his adoptive dads, and especially his big bro MK. The rest of the Wukongverse are horrified.

It all started with chirping...
Now Macaque first throws food at the twins, and once that becomes "nirmal" he's starting to groom their hair....
I headcanon all of this happening after the "fallout" coused by Nuwa xD Everytime the twins get used to one thing, Macaque just does something else that confuses them.
And Macaque is probably just subconciously stressing about having almost lost the twins, and worried that he will lose them if he doesn't show them that he cares.
Meanwhile Mei is probably just somewhere in the corner, hoping that this finally, FINALLY get's it into the twins head that they are basically Macaques kids now! XD
~*~
It's the mama instincts taking over him XD
But yes, Mei is absolutely done with how oblivious her found family is, as funny as it can be at times, she just wants to hang out and be a normal family

So I made some kind of weird LMK timeline thingy. Just to guide myself a little
Sun Wukong is born. Uses laser eyes and scares the shit out of everyone. Finds what's behind the waterfall at FFM and becomes the Monkey King
Sun Wukong meets Azure Lion and the rest of the brotherhood. He also meets Macaque. Not sure if that's before Azure or after. Probably before. Yeah definitely before
SWK gets invited to the Celestial Realm. The whole Havoc in Heaven happens. He gains the (self-proclaimed) title of "Great Sage Equal to Heaven"
Sometime after this, the Celestial Realm attacks and the brotherhood attempts to overthrow the Jade Emperor. They lose
Buddha is called and seals SWK under the mountain. Macaque visits him and then leaves. He (as far as we know) doesn't come back
Peng and Yellow Tusk are sealed in the scroll by the Celestial Realm as punishment. No I do not believe SWK did that. No I also can't remember if it was ever mentioned in season 4, if I'm wrong please tell me so I can correct this
Macaque either stays in Flower Fruit Mountain or leaves that too
Guanyin and company travel the path Tripitaka and his disciples will have to go through to make sure it's safe. She finds Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing and Ao Lie and tells them to join Tripitaka on his journey
Tripitaka is tasked with delivering that stuff (I don't know how to spell its name) to Buddha. His disciples get eaten
Guanyin gives him the circlet and tells him to go to the mountain SWK was sealed under
Tripitaka finds the mountain and takes off the seal. Sun Wukong attacks him, so he puts the circlet on his head. He probably used it here because SWK might've not stopped with his murder attempt after the circlet was on
Tripitaka's horse gets eaten. They find Ao Lie, who, after some fighting, joins them as the white horse (I doubt he was the one who ate the horse in LMK)
They find Zhu Bajie. He probably tried to cook Tripitaka
They find Sha Wujing. He fought Zhu Bajie and (maybe) (probably) (wow I say that word a lot) Sun Wukong before he joined
The journey continues. Yay!
Ao Lie gets kidnapped somewhere here. I think this happens in JTTW but I can't remember
LBD appears and gets sealed. This might also have happened after the journey because of what I say later (when I talk about Macaque's death, about her messing with his memories)
Now here is when stuff gets complicated because... when does Macaque die??
Macaque might've attacked the pilgrims during the journey like in JTTW, but I'm not sure if that's when he died
Red Son is born somewhere
The journey ends. Yay!
SWK probably either killed Azure Lion here or during the journey
The sealing of the Samadhi fire happens
It's not clear if Macaque died before the sealing of the Samadhi fire or after. It was mostly likely after, since he knew kind of a lot about it
Macaque dies after the journey ends; Sun Wukong, in the flashback, is wearing the same armor he used while sealing the Samadhi fire + he wasn't using the circlet. It was either taken off early or Macaque died after the journey
We also gotta be aware of the fact that apparently LBD messed with Macaque's memories, so this flashback could be wrong. LBD could've implanted a memory where SWK was wearing that armor because that's how she remembers him
(Also: if she remembers him that way, then she might've been sealed somewhat after the journey. Man, this timeline is confusing)
The pilgrims die (Zhu Bajie was probably first because — and I'm not 100% sure about this because I haven't finished JTTW yet + I can't remember everything about Zhu Bajie in season 4 — he was the only one who hasn't reached enlightenment). Ao Lie might be alive; we don't know yet
DBK attacks the town and SWK seals him under a mountain
SWK goes through a 500 year old depressive episode (he stays in FFM w his monkeys, probably training them and taking care of them and all the stuff he does in JTTW)
During the 500 years, the city is built. Yay! Red Son also grows up without his father
Nuwa creates MK. MK is dropped off at Pigsy's
Now here it gets complicated again. SWK might have been the one who left MK at Pigsy's, but it was also said that in season 4, when he kept appearing where the stone is, he didn't know why, which implies he also didn't know MK was a stone monkey
He could've left MK and disappeared again and just didn't know his successor was that MK (like, he knew there was a stone monkey somewhere but he didn't know it was MK). It's that or he had no fucking idea and someone else left MK there
MK grows up and meets Mei, they become friends
DBK is unsealed. MK lifts the staff
Complicated again! When did Macaque come back? I doubt it was too long ago because there is no way LBD would've let him run off for that long. It was either a while before MK lifts the staff, or a while after. Or maybe I'm wrong and he was revived during the 500 years. Idk
Azure Lion gets brought back by Who The Fuck Knows (could've happened during the 500 years or before MK lifts the staff. Again, if this is mentioned in season 4, please tell me)
All the stuff that happens in canon

Spoilers for season 4
//
So I thought since it will probably be revealed that Wukong covered up MK's true form so he could live a normal life among humans and far away from Wukong’s issues. But I had a thought, because things can never be too angsty for me, what if the goddess that helped make MK (I'm assuming that it's Guan Yin but idk) covered up MK's monkey form?
For two reasons, one being as previously stated so MK can live a regular life and two that Wukong couldn't go get him until MK was ready and found the staff on his own? Like I know that Wukong said that he had been watching MK for a while but still that was just a thought that crossed my mind
SWEETPEA LISTEN I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THEM ABOUT PEACHERINES ABOUT THESETWO LITTLE SKRUNKLIES ABOUT THE BOYS ABOUT THE FATHER AND SON AND I HAVE BEEN SOBBING FOR THREE DAYS STRASIGHT BECAUSE OF IT. EVERY NEW THOUGHT BRINGS ME P A I N.
anyways
thats a good theory. i agree wukong hid mks true form but man...alot of people (me included) thinks is nuwa the godess of fertility and motherhood. (something like that ik motherhood). guan yin probably did send her also this is the perfect moment for me to scream
I WAS RIGHT-ALMOST- I WAS SO FUCKING CLOSE TO THE TRUTH BUT I WAS FUCKING RIGHT MK WAS BORN WITH HIS POWERS AND GUAN YIN WAS INVOLVED GODDAMMIT
i was of course wrong about the whole "guanyin" chose him but SHE WAS STILL INVOLVED AND MK DIDNT GET HIS POWERS FROM THE STAFF HE WAS BORN WTH THEM AS A STONE MONKEYAAAAAAAAA.
ALSO TELL ME SHE DIDNT BLESS MK WITH SOME KIND OF WISDON OR KINDNESS LIKE PLEASE MAN HES THE MAIN CHARACTER I BET YOU ANYTHING SHE BLESSED MK IN SOME WAY.
see this is why i haventtalked about anything at all since i watched it bc i am not normal about them at all.
shadowpeaches hurt and all BUT PEACHERINES IS FUCKING TAKING MY HEART OUT AND TEARING IT INTO LITTLE TNY PIECES AND IT HURTS.
i have a big theory about mk and the overarching plot bc bc listen while ur theory is good i think theres something WAY bigger going on here. W A Y. bigger.
AND BECAUSE ITS SOMETHING BIGGER HE DIDNT GIVE MK AWAY TO LIVE A NORMAL LIFE IT WAS SO MK COULD BE SAFE, OR MAYBE TO HIDE MAN MAN I SWEAR I CANT TAKE IT ANYMOREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
think about it. ynow what LBD, the ink bitch, and the jade emporer all have in common (im taking the other two from a sub i watched online)
Lbd: just a piece in a game you cant possibly comprehend
Ink bitch/bodhi: someone is playing a very large game of chess.. and you are an important part of it
jade emporer: didnt you realize, that you might be an important pawn in someone elses game
NO ONE IS FUCKING TALKING ABOUT THIS EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED AND I KNOW I KNOW IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH MK'S CREATION. WHY HE WAS MADE, WHY NUWA WAS INVOLVED.
ITS ALL CONNECTED AS ONE LARGE GAME OF CHESS, SOMEONE BIGGER IS MOVING THE PIECES.
AND I KNOW EXACTLY WHO IT IS
im not gonna say it here bc tommorow im streaming with rhy at 12est tommorow (ill make a real announcement for that later) and i wanna talk about all my theorys first and then ill make a bigass post of everything i think is gonna happen and how everyhting EVERYTHING in the series is coming togethor to finnaly bring in the big bad guy and the main overarching plot of the series. it was never lbd and her bullshit. theres something, someone else...and he's patiently waiting for the right moment to strike

Chance Encounter | Artist: KIKOKASUISAN
Story 1 The Multidimensional Neural Network is a transcendental sensory system that also uses quantum distribution. It is laid out like the roots of a tree that stretch to the ends of the universe and beyond. The way it transmits information is like a giant electronic circuit. Are the visions projected by the system real or fictional? ―This is just one of the endless number of visions. "You… you copy…!" "My, my, it's not like you to lose your composure like that… or should I say it's not like 'me'?!"
Story 2 Junko is a sagacious spirit who has been purified by her grudge toward Chang'e. Junko might have been something like a demi-god who went by the name of ■■ back in the age when gods and humans coexisted on the continent. She comes from a family that worshiped their ancestor Fuxi as a god. It is said that the fox was their family's totem, but there is no supporting evidence of this. She was given the name ■■ because of her beautiful black hair. All of this is just conjecture made up by trying to reconstruct her past that was most likely erased as a result of being purified by her grudge. Nobody knows the truth about her. That's because Junko, as she is now, is not ■■, but the personification of a grudge.
Story 3 Sagacious Spirits Fuxi, a godly culture hero, had a half-human, half-snake body. Nuwa was both his wife and sister. Fuxi was the founder of various continental cultures, including the writing system used before Chinese characters came into existence and the Eight Trigrams (also known as Bagua). Since Fuxi governed the primitive writing system and the Eight Trigrams, he was irrefutably one of the origins of senjutsu and doujutsu. Junko's family was supposedly descended from him, which would mean they were probably primitive hermits by birth. Perhaps the reason she became a sagacious spirit instead of a celestial that a hermit should essentially aim to be might be because her senjutsu was primitive. Although, it is also possible that her own grudge is what might have caused this to happen. In other words, there may be a separate being who became a celestial or lived a fulfilled life as ■■ along with Junko, who is the personification of her deep-seated grudge. It's almost the same as how a ghost can become a divine spirit that further creates bunrei.
Story 4 The Multidimensional Neural Network Although Junko is a divine spirit with a spirit body, she is also a being who is skilled enough with senjutsu to create a Senkai. Senjutsu (along with doujutsu and onmyoujutsu) contains the concepts of rentanjutsu (also known as the application of ancient Chinese alchemy) and fengshuijutsu. Rentanjutsu is the kind of senjutsu that can elevate the human body to something more perfect (like a hermit's sturdy and indestructible vitals and mental fortitude) by meddling with the balance of the Five Phases that make up the human body. The application of Fengshuijutsu is mutually related to rentanjutsu. It deals with the relationship between humans and the city they reside in. Fengshuijutsu is ultimately a large-scale and continuous senjutsu application that bestows the emperor, who is the heart of the city, with hermit-like abilities. Now, what would happen if the senjutsu that applies to humans and cities is amplified and extended to the entire universe and all things in nature…? That would be the third type of senjutsuーI Ching divination that can find spiritual energy out of thin air and use the movements of celestial bodies and light to calculate the fate of all things. The Multidimensional Neural Network is one of the ideological senjutsu in I Ching divination.
Story 5 Destiny Shown by the Stars This is why modern people are ignorant of mysteries. The day the apple fell in front of the eyes of the last natural philosopher and the first mathematical scientist was the day the stars fell from their pedestal of being treated like gods that govern destiny. They are now seen as just mere sources of light and bodies of mass. But guess what? Humans have yet to set foot on the stars. The only celestial body that humankind has infringed upon is a natural satellite―an insignificant lump of dirt and metal. The things that are visible are still just fleeting dreams. The world of celestial bodies is still firmly protected. There are countless theories that don't hold water as soon as the numbers are slightly tweaked. Don't you think so too, Western Magician of the Stars?

what would happen if wukong met nuwa, his mother/creator, if she survived rebuilding the heavens?
Well, we do have to acknowledge that according to Chinese mythology Nuwa isn't actually Sun Wukong's mother; this relationship seems to be more an invention of recent years, and even then I've only seen it in a few retellings of JTTW. THAT SAID, this does seem to be a relationship that at least from my own limited view appears to be garnering more and more interest for its implications, and which I have seen some people say creates a really fascinating and even logical tie between two of China's most beloved mythical figures. Personally I do find the idea that Sun Wukong came from one of the stones Nuwa turned herself into while repairing the hole in the sky more satisfying than he just came from a random rock that was nourished by heaven, earth, and the wind, especially since it places the monkey king even more at this interesting crossroad between human, animal, and god (if you enjoy tragedy it also ties well with Sun Wukong's portrayal in the 1999 Chinese animation Lotus Lantern, as there the Monkey King expresses some pretty intense grief in the fact that he never knew / never had a mother. So if you are going with "Sun Wukong came from one of Nuwa's stones," you could say that he had a mother in Nuwa, but that she had died long before he was born).
BUT ANYWAY, if we are going off of the premise that Sun Wukong was indeed "born" from one of Nuwa's stones and that Nuwa herself had managed to survive repairing the sky, I imagine that what would happen between the monkey and the goddess would really depend at what stage of his journey Sun Wukong was at. Like while family is extremely important for both Nuwa and the Monkey King, Sun Wukong had precisely 0 problems with murdering humans--Nuwa's other creations/children--for a good portion of his life. Monkey man was even a warlord and besties with a confirmed maneater in the Demon Bull King. So I imagine that would make Nuwa very disappointed, sad, and perhaps very angry. On the other hand, I can see them getting along quite well with each other once Sun Wukong starts becoming less violent. Nuwa seems to be consistently portrayed as a loving figure who's willing to do anything to help her children, and I feel like much of the same could be said of Sun Wukong.
It probably would however be kind of a shock for the goddess--who according to one common version of her story created humans very deliberately out of clay--to learn she not only had a surprise monkey son but also an entire mountain's worth of monkey great-grandchildren too asdfewaf.

Makes you wonder if this what Nuwa has to deal for god how long. Also imagine what would happen if Nuwa were to be in MC place instead.
A long time apperantly till she finally got sick of his Older brothers infatuation and just left
If Nuwa was there then she would have probably leave Fuxi in the gift box all day
Also Head canon everytime MC picks the "Onii chan" dialogue Nuwa is dying from cringe inside MC

I've been thinking of a SMTV AU for a while now. Gonna share this WIP of an idea because I need to let it out. (Also I was talking with someone about it a small bit)
It's about the NG+ options. Reborn and Newborn. Any normal person wouldn't think much of it besides it being a cool theme way to play a game again. But I'm NOT a normal damn person and decided to run with this very angsty idea. [Its mainly a food for thought AU] Warning though. It's not well done-
When you completed a certain route, you get a colored ball thing show up on your safe file. They're in order from light blue (Law), white (Neutral), red (Chaos) and a star like white ball (True Neutral.) No matter what route you do first, it will always show up in this order. So what this has to do with the NG+ thing is that what if this is how V-kun approached every new rebirth. That's where the NG+ thing comes in.
He finishes a Law route. I don't have a solid reason why yet but maybe he did it to become a God of Order so that he could revive his friends and shape himself into someone better. (Like he lost a lot of himself the first time. The trauma of losing your friends, the fact that they were almost alone with themselves on this besides Aogami and just the PTSD he probably has thanks to Da'at.) He wanted to be better. Beating himself up for not saving them sooner. But instead of becoming a God of Law, he gets swallowed up by this mysterious darkness(?.) Only to come back as human V-kun. But you see, the first time this happens, he doesn't realise this.
It's basically a Newborn version of V-Kun. (A very Newborn one) He basically dosen't have any kind memories. At least not at first. Around the end of Act 2 (aka Tao's death,) he again experiences this trauma. But the feeling feels familiar suddenly. He would have a few random "flashbacks" of events and stuff at first but he chalked it up to it being Aogamis broken hardware in the beginning. But after her death, he starts to question them more. Questions why these feel familiar. Why he feels like he could have changed something.
This confusion would change his path. He leaned more to Neutral. (Idk what reason again but probably because he has some trust to Nuwa [not so much Yakumo.] He maybe thought they were sensible enough?) The confusion comes up more frequently. So much that it even "distorts" his world view just a little bit. (The changes are happening...) At the throne, he destroys the throne not only for Nuwa and Yakumo, but out of a weird frustration. A hatred of these demons and angel's that took his friends away. . . . I'll have to work on how the Chaos and True Neutral paths are gonna work but that's gonna be hard to think and write some ideas about. I'll be adding on to this soon I hope! Also sorry if the writing is horrible and weird in some parts. I'm an artist not a writer 😢 (I'm also horrible at spelling)

the hues of the world bloom with you
— herrscher of sentience x fu hua
Tumblr media
genre : fluff
warnings : none
wordcount : 1,263
summary : senti rarely wakes up first. when she does, she takes the time to marvel at hua's sleeping face.
Tumblr media
the morning light unravels like a distant memory as it washes over the curtains and spills across senti's skin. spun like a fine thread, it traces the patterns of the water and darts across the sea. hypnotizing; a school of fish flits by and shines a dazzling rainbow of color before it vanishes in the dark.
it's calm. warm. a faint scent of lemongrass and spring lingers in the air, soft and comforting like an embrace. it tugs on her eyelids and calls her back to sleep, even though she just woke up.
ah, but. there are heavy arms wrapped tightly across her shoulders, pulling her into a hug that she can't escape from, even if she wanted to. their legs are entangled so that she can't even squirm without waking the girl beside her up. the blanket has long been thrown away, somewhere, maybe, but really, even if it was cold, she is warm enough in hua's embrace, anyway.
senti rarely wakes up first.
hua is always up before the dawn. old habits die hard; she is always training in the gym or meditating somewhere quiet. ever so meticulous, ever so reliable, always the class monitor of st. freya — senti would call her diligent, but she is already too bitter at being left alone to wake in a cold room and an even colder bed to say anything nice about her.
but, she's awake now.
she tilts her head up.
dark lashes flutter against pale cheekbones, stark against the pale sunlight. she looks so gentle while asleep, so free from worries, almost angelic. it's so much better than the stern expression she wears during the day, she thinks, lightly tracing hua's cheek with a fingertip. so much better.
just looking at her, fast asleep like this, makes senti feel calmer.
she lifts her hand, combing hua's bangs from her forehead. she breathes out a laugh. old timer couldn't even be bothered to comb her hair before falling asleep. seriously. what a bum. this is what nuwa and fuxi were afraid of happening.
her thumb brushes against her temple, down her cheek and to her lips. this close, senti can see the faint dark circles lining her eyes, the dryness of her skin. her lips have dark bite marks where she's chewed on them for the past few days already.
huh. senti frowns. hua looks so tired. have they been overworking her again? no wonder she's still asleep.
dammit. she's still keeping secrets from her.
she sighs. "stupid, stupid old timer."
hua groans. senti freezes, but hua only snuggles against her chest, hiding from the patches of light flitting around their sheets. senti watches, amused, as the old timer rubs her cheek against her breast, before humming in content. her heart skips a beat. a garden of butterflies flourish in her stomach.
dammit. seriously, damn it. her skin raises in goosebumps where hua's breaths tickle her.
she buries her head in hua's hair. the smell of spring washes over her like a wave, intoxicating yet sweet and light. it's so unfair. hua should be the weak one in this relationship, but senti is always the one who bends to her every touch and move.
and yet, somehow, it doesn't feel too bad. she's the only one the old timer shows this side of hers to, after all.
the only one . . .
idly, she combs the ends of hua's hair. she's going to have a hard time fixing her hair later, she muses, sighing at the knotted strands around her fingers. she thinks she should be annoyed. it's so hard to untangle her hair and she probably won't even get a thank you for all her hard effort!
but, it's a bit nice to be the only one who sees her like this. to everyone else, she's their reliable fu hua, everyone's friend and helping hand, strong and composed, but with senti, she is unravelled until all that's left is soft smiles and sleepy touches and tangled hair.
ah, but her hair is kind of really annoying right now.
hua stirs. senti pauses again, but she is too late. light blue eyes flutter open, hazy from sleep, but just as beautiful as a clear summer sky. she looks up and immediately snuggles back into senti's chest, flinching from the light as she lets out a yawn.
senti closes her eyes and takes a deep breath.
right. right. just breathe. nothing special, that wasn't cute at all. right.
"you're awake early," the old timer mumbles. her voice is heavy from sleep.
"well, good morning to you, too." sarcasm drips down her words, but hua only chuckles it off.
"good morning."
the moment is gone. with hua's wakefulness came senti's hyper-awareness of her position cuddling against hua. the arm slung across her waist, the soft thighs trapping her legs in between. her borrowed night shirt is unbuttoned at the top, and hua's breaths against her skin somehow feel even more intimate than before.
dammit. dammit. dammit.
she hides her face with her arm as best as she can to hide her flush. she's the herscherr of sentience, dammit, she wouldn't be embarrassed by a mere sleeping position like this!
dammit.
hua shifts a bit, resting her chin against senti's side as she peers at the clock. it should be around seven in the morning by now. a burst of sadism: she peeks out, expecting an alarmed expression on her old timer's face at finding out she slept away her precious training time.
but the horrified expression never comes, and neither does the freak out session senti expected to watch. instead, hua slumps back against her and sighs in contentment.
"oi, old timer," she says. "you slept in."
"i noticed." speaking makes her lips brush against senti's collar like a ghost of a kiss. she shivers.
"aren't you gonna go out now?"
"hm." the smell of spring and the calmness of warmth. senti watches a lone fish swim past the window and join with another one by the corals. "maybe later. i still have the whole day ahead."
huh. maybe she's rubbing off the old timer a bit, after all. ha, good on her.
"besides." hua's voice takes on a bashful tone, and senti rushes to build her defenses before hua overwhelms her with emotions again. "it's been a while since we last spent some time alone with each other."
too late. her toes curl, and she tries desperately to calm her racing heart.
dammit. she's the herscherr of sentience. dammit.
"well!" she blurts out. too loud. maybe. she can't hear anything over the beating of her heart. "that's your fault for being so busy."
hua hums. the vibration travels through her body to the tips of her feet. "sorry. i'll make sure to finish all my work earlier next time."
that . . . is not the point. the point is that she should ask theresa or einstein to lessen her workload, not rush it! how stupid can this old timer be —?
hua pushes her shoulder towards the bed and leans over her. trapped between the sheets and her other half, senti has no choice but to look back into her eyes. gentle and calm like a still lake, trapped within the shores of an uncharted sea; her eyes are so blue, here in this aquarium, in this room, this close that she can see the indigo flecks within the depths of her irises. she holds her breath, unsure, but loses it anyway when hua murmurs against her lips.
"but for now, why don't i make it up to you?"

SMTV update:
Okay, like I know I said I won't be probably liveblogging the game but actually I want to make some update how playing this game goes for me so far for ppl who might enjoy it actually
I'm still not so far in the game I believe, from what I know I just ended chapter 1 (I got into Tokyo Diet Building) and damn, I was like "Okay, Hydra was easy imo, Eligor wasn't that bad too, even Genbu (I know in SMT V this demon is named diffrently but I don't remember so I'll use his Persona name) was managable, and next boss is *checks guide* two levels below me so it won't be a problem" - and then I totally had an classic SMT moment where all your demons are dead and Nahobino was at low health too so I actually don't know how I survived Nuwa fight, really, I don't know how 😆
Also Nuwa and this guy who kinda looks like Raidou to me (I don't remember his name yet, sorry xD) looks like an iconic duo actually, I know they lowkey wants to kill me but still... Iconic bitches xD
And I think so far I'm leaning more towards the Chaos route? Idk if that's good or bad tbh
I know I'm still at the beginning of the game as I only have 17hrs of progress, tbh I had the moment of weakness somewhere after Tokyo Tower when I actually was kinda bored with this game and I even considered trying Nocturne instead but now I actually want to play more and see what's gonna happen next omg why is this game so good
Edit: also Amanozako still annoys the hell outta me lol, I actually miss Morgana and Teddie xD

Things That Need To Happen In Honkai (A List Completely Made By Myself And Wish Fulfillment)
a combination of "back in my day" oldness because my fossilized ass has been pinned to the ground by this game since 2018, and I need a place to list all the stuff I want for the game to happen. I'll probably add more later.
Story Wise:
Herrscher of Death Seele.
KiaMei Reunion that makes the entire community writhe in sweet sweet agony.
Kallen Battlesuit. (maybe herrscher of corruption??)
New Vodka Twins battlesuits.
Fu Hua & Senti bittersweet “sister” moments.
A Kiana battlesuit with her hair down, but not Valk Ranger/HoV. Like her White Comet battle suit with her hair down.
Wendy battlesuit. There, I said it. Hottest take there is.
Fu Hua MANTIS form. Flashback, boss fight, idgaf. This is not a Want. IT IS A NEED.
For those that don't have time to read apparently 4-5 hours of text ((I'm looking at you Ch. 31)) boatloads of text, a summary feature? Please?
QoL/Gameplay Stuff:
Give F2P players different weapons to craft. Why do I have to craft 3 Call of Crescents if I want my bow users to do more than 100 damage/hit?
Simplify upgrade materials. There are like 7 types of upgrade materials I can list off the top of my head. Not including those tuner things for each stigmata type.
A place to separately store event stigmata from “competitive” ones. Seriously. I’ve been collecting since 2018. There are so many.
Stop making foundry non-competitive items hard to completely upgrade. Why the hell does a Fafnir Flame need a Honkai cube to upgrade? Why does Lucia, an A-rank Valkyrie weapon, need a Honkai cube?
Speaking of stupid walls for collection purposes, why are non-competitive weapons that only have like a 1% chance in the exchange house even exist? Especially if they’re not signature weapons for old Valks like Genome Reaper and Tranquil Arias? Light and Shadow, Energy Leapers (god I remember when these were BiS...), Nuwa's Sword - like they're not even BiS for any unit. There's no valuable purpose to them.
Get rid of the move-in requirements for stigmas in the dorm. They already did it with the Valks anyways.
I would really like for old badges from previous events to come back for a price. Like asterite or coins.
A nitpick, but the Valkyries tab in the Collection section has been LOCKED SINCE GLOBAL LAUNCH. WHY IS IT HERE? SAME FOR EVENT ALBUMS.
If I get a Valk that’s already SSS, why doesn’t the game just convert them to the Witch Orbs automatically? I mean, what else can you do with them???
Farmable high-tier ELF. Please.
Where tf did Augment Cores go? Like as soon as SP dropped, MHY said “I don’t want to play with you anymore.”

I've been wondering about Luzhen...
You say MK's like a reference to Luzhen (he probably is if the staff knows about him), but I was wondering...what if - just a what if - MK IS Luzhen?
Obvs JTTW in LMK didn't go the same way as the book, so LJTTW also did not go the same way - maybe SWK was more of an involved parent to this tiny mini-me menace.
And maybe something happened, something bad? Something lethal, at least.
Be it a spell SWK cast, him using something - from his hoarders' den - or asking anothers help to try and save Luzhen.
And it does.
But it does so in a way that seals him in a stone.
No worries, SWK probably thinks, Luzhen's gonna come out good as new.
Except, not really. The Small Sage is in there for a while. And when it does crack open - it's not Luzhen.
The thing used to save him, basically ended up sort-of scrambling/sort-of reincarnating/sort-of remaking him.
Could be why we saw MK come out of a stone egg in AHIB, he healed in there - remnant of the used things power to save him still hanging around.
Could be why MK has powers that SWK spent years learning and mastering - he already knew them, just didn't remember it.
People complained that MKs monkey mark looks way too similar to SWKs, well, I imagine Luzhen's did look more like SWKs.
Why SWK choosing a random kid to be his successor? He already was, from before.
Y'know?
ok...
thats actually a pretty legit Lego Monkie Kid theory.
Nuwa makes Luzhen from Wukong's remaining Stone Egg. Luzhen idolizes Sun Wukong and becomes his beloved student/adoptive son. He's his little mini-me, practically the "Monkey Prince".
Tumblr media
Luzhen dies before he can gain a form of immortality. The killing blow hitting the left side of his body.
Tumblr media
Wukong is so heartbroken that he tries his best to "fix" Luzhen with whatever left over stone egg shell he could find and some clay mud.
MK is created instead.
SWK is so distraught that he couldn't save his tudi/son, only managing to pretty much "reincarnate" him into a fresh new child.
He brings a still-muddy MK into Megapolis, leaving him outside the noodle shop where he knows Zhu Bajie's reincarnation/decendant is.
And when Wukong does emotionally recover enough to face MK; he sometimes forgets that MK isn't his son anymore. Its all super angsty.
I love it >:)
even if it doesn't line up with my "MK started as a fragment of primordial space chaos" theory that I have in TMKATI au, its still super good and likely to actually be canon!

I'm just curious (still learning) at what point after 1100 AD would Joe and Nicky been in actual danger due to homophobia? At what point would they have to start lying to people about the nature of their amazing relationship, just to stay safe? Thanks!
(This is in reference to this post, in which I skimmed over like 900 years of sociological changes in identity formation in very very broad strokes.)
So. Here’s the thing. As “western” queer people in the modern world, I think we highly associate safety with being able to be out of the closet. Can I kiss my partner in public or walk down the street holding hands without fear of encountering hate speech or physical violence? Can I tell my friends, family and coworkers about my relationship without fear of social ostracization or economic consequences?
But that’s a very modern perspective. Between “pride parade!!” and “we will definitely be murdered if anyone finds out we are lovers,” there is...A LOT of space for different kinds of historical queer experience.
So it’s not so much that Yusuf and Nicolò could be safely “out of the closet” in 12th century Baghdad but not in 19th century London. It’s not quite as far from that as you might think. But they wouldn’t have thought about it that way.
In the first few hundred years of their existence, the Islamic world was...full of contradictions when it came to homosexuality. You had a strong taboo against adult men being the receptive partner in penetrative sex, but you also had poets--like, the most famous poets of their times--writing tons of homoerotic poetry about desiring young men and boys, and that was normal and even celebrated. (If you’re familiar with the sexual mores of ancient Greece...lots of similarities here.) You had clerics writing about how there should be harsh punishments for “sodomy,” but in practice in everyday life very, very few people were ever actually disciplined in the legal system for something like that. And other forms of sexual activity between men, like kissing and various forms of non-penetrative sex, were just...not a big deal. At the same time there was kind of an unspoken “don’t ask, don’t tell” social contract around sex between men. Like, we know this thing is definitely happening, and we’re not going to talk about it, and that’s what makes it socially acceptable to continue happening. So you can have a society that in the written, religious record looks fairly intolerant toward sex between men; in practice is actually quite tolerant; where everyone sort of knows things about certain people, but where no one is really “out” in the modern sense of the terms.
At the same time, pretty much everywhere in the world at this time but definitely in the Middle East, casual touch between men was much more normalized. Two men holding hands or linking arms when walking down the street, sitting pressed up next to each other, falling asleep with your head on your male companion’s shoulder...a whole range of things that look decidedly snuggly to our modern gaze would have been totally acceptable between friends of the same gender, and would not have been considered sexual in any way. (This is still true in much of the Middle East today.)
So you can easily imagine a scenario where, like, Nicolò is lounging with his head on Yusuf’s shoulder, eating dates and listening to some saucy Abu Nuwas poem being recited, and then they go back to their private quarters and they have as much sex as they want. Are they “out”? Not really. Is anyone bothering them about how they’re living their lives? Not in the slightest. Do some people in that room see them and know? Probably, but that’s their private business and we’re not gonna talk about it. Frankly that sounds like a pretty sweet existence for a 12th century queer.
To be fair, they have a few advantages. They’re men, which means no one will really question them traveling together, without wives or families. They can easily say they’re friends or business partners and no one will really give it a second thought. I’m sure having to break off contact with their families was sad, but it’s also the case that there’s no one around asking when they’re going to get married to a woman and have children so we have someone to inherit the family business. It gives them a kind of freedom that a lot of other queer people around them wouldn’t have had.
I think once they meet up with Andy and Quynh, they do do things like pretending to be two married couples traveling together. But that’s more because of sexism, because two unmarried women traveling with two men who were not their husbands would turn some heads.
In Europe at the time, Christian theology is pretty not-into all kinds of non-procreative sex, but sex between men is not necessarily viewed as a worse sin than, say, masturbation, or sex between men and women out of wedlock. And it’s like, a category of sin that a lot of people are doing all the time, so if you were to confess such a thing to your local priest, you would be told to do penance but the consequences would be fairly mild. And many of the same things regarding casual touch hold true. Various rituals of kissing, including men kissing men on the mouth, are used as greetings, to seal contracts, and as part of mass.
Medieval Europe also had a concept variously called passionate, romantic, or chivalric friendship--close relationships between two people of the same gender that could be long-lasting, physically affectionate, emotionally intense in a way we would today read as romantic, and (allegedly) celibate. Were some of these passionate friendships actually queer relationships with a sexual component that just wasn’t talked about? Probably. Were some of them what we would define as queerplatonic or homoromantic asexual relationships today? Probably. Is it even useful to try to stuff these experiences into modern relationship categories? Debatable. The point is...the borders between what was defined as friendship, romance and love were different. Two men who traveled together, slept in the same bed, shared resources, were emotionally intimate with each other, and otherwise entwined their lives would not necessarily have been assumed to be sex partners in medieval Europe. And (I think this is the important part) Yusuf and Nicolò would not necessarily have seen being perceived as passionate friends as “hiding” the true nature of their relationship or as assigning some lesser value to it.
In terms of how they are perceived in public, I think things really don’t start to change until the early 20th century. It’s a gradual process, but over the first half of the 20th century, more or less, affectionate touch between men becomes defined as “gay” and a mainstream (straight) masculinity that is concerned with defining itself as “not gay” emerges. Affectionate touch, and then any show of loving emotion between men, gradually becomes less and less acceptable, to a degree that probably seems absurd to two 900-year-old Mediterraneans. (The absurdity is really well-expressed in the van scene, which is literally like “Bro is it gay to [checks notes]...express concern about the well-being of the person you were just violently kidnapped with?”)
Like, on the one hand, you have queer people talking openly about their sexuality in ways that were not an option at earlier times in their lives. But at the same time you have to be careful holding hands walking down the high street now because someone might chuck an empty beer bottle at you. Must’ve been a real wild transition for them.

Since rewatching the guardian drama after reading the novel has made me mad about how bad and good both of them are I am Obligated to write out a list of what I think the perfect merger btw both versions of canon are. This will be in list format otherwise I’ll end up writing like 6k words again.
TLDR: the genre stays as supernatural from the novel and not Sci fi, bc that was rlly not fleshed out well. Shen Wei is a ghost king, and all the dixingren are ghosts or demons like originally intended. The ghost race naturally exists and wasn't born from kunluns shoulder fire or anything. They just exist separate from humans. Not all ghosts are former humans, some people are just born as ghosts, like Shen Wei. Zhao Yunlan has the guardian whip and all the cool stuff that comes with the Guardian order.  Overall, i’d keep the novel’s plot and relationship progression and ending without the backstory. Instead the backstory is a merger of both canons. From the drama I’d keep the characterization and themes as well as like half the extra cases and omit the other half.
I’ll be elaborating much further on my ideal backstory and other stuff under the cut bc the rest is 1.5k and I don’t wanna clog the dash
Okay SO In my ideal backstory there are two timelines just like the drama but the mythology of the book. The god Kunlun is actually zyl that went back in time and became a god. But the one that went back isn’t the current Zhao Yunlan. There has to be an original timeline where the god Kunlun never existed. Thus the great seal nor the separation of the three realms don’t exist either. Zhao Yunlan must go back in time to become a god, meet Shen Wei in the past, and create the current timeline where the separation exists but isn’t perfect. The current timeline is the one that the majority of the series takes place in.
In the original timeline, Zhao Yunlan is just some dude living in a world where ghosts, fairies, and all other beings just live in a giant free for all and it's kinda just a mess.
Like there’s government in modern context and all and all races live with each other but there's constant tension. ZYL works at some equivalent of the SID (same staff and side characters, but novel vers. Lin Jing is a monk, CSZ a zombie, etc) to protect people and all that and their job is rather hard. One day encounters the thousands year old ghost king Wei (who isnt shen wei yet bc zyl gave him that name in the future) who works alone as like a rouge cultivator of sorts. He lives on the surface undercover as a professor still bc he’s trying to not catch Yezun’s attention but does all the stuff he normally does as Heipaoshi. The two ally together for a case and bc they both have the same goals of getting all races to live in peace. At current, there are forces working together to decimate the human race, all lead by Yezun
As they work together they become closer and all that. Shen Wei tells him about how he was unable to prevent the great war 5 thousand years ago and neither could the gods so  he’s spent the past 5 thousand years trying to make up for it. As they search for ways to stop Yezun, they gather the 4 hallows and learn how to use them to manipulate time so ZYL can go into the past and stop the great war and separate the three realms (living, dead, ghost).  Shen Wei wants to go back with him but he can’t because he was alive all those years ago so if he goes back it will create a paradox. ZYL promises he’ll find Shen Wei in the past and create a timeline where they could be together in peace (that is the current timeline)
When goes back he becomes the god kunlun because there needed to be a new god born at the time to prevent the war.  Also this time traveller looked promising to Nuwa, Fuxi, and Shennong. And I know in the guardian universe gods are usually born and ppl don’t become gods. EXCEPT this can happen when a god passes on smth from their body onto them bc that did happen in the novel with Kunlun making shen wei a demigod. And since fu you and ma gui are supposed to be gods Nu Wa and Fuxi I think that when they die, they should make ZYL a god and that's how this stuff happens.
So like ZYL explains to the gods the time he came from and how he wants to save everything and they make him a god and he works to save everything just like he did in the drama but this time with the novel plotline. During this time he meets young Shen Wei (he’s still like a hundred or so years old) and they get close and all the stuff from the backstory happens. He gives him his name, all that good stuff. The entire time doesn’t let him know that he’s from the future or that his real name is ZYL. He just poses as kunlun.
The two of them alongside the other gods (who still die at the times they do in the novel) work together to end the war and establish the great seal and set up the cycle of reincarnation, per the current timeline. Although the seal and cycle of reincarnation aren’t perfect. Gods can’t reincarnate, and ghosts still don’t have souls. And just like the novel, doing all of this kills ZYL bc it takes a lot of energy to create the seal even though it isn’t perfect.
Shen Wei of course doesn’t want ZYL to die and zyl says it's alright because he fixed the timeline so there must One day they will meet again and ZYL reveals the truth about the timeline to shen wei before he dies. This becomes the promise that Shen Wei mentions to meet again. Before he dies, ZYL gives him the shoulder fire as a memento ( i still like the candy wrapper necklace deal but i’ll take this too. Maybe both.. The pendant is still just rlly cool.. Gay ppl)
Shen Wei knows gods can’t enter the cycle of reincarnation and still makes the deal with Shennong to strip Kunlun of his godhood and let him reincarnate. This sets us into the novel timeline where isn’t allowed to meet any of zyl’s reincarnations before he becomes zyl otherwise he will die and also fuck up the timeline. The same 5 thousand years of pining still ensue bc Gay Ppl and i love making Shen Wei suffer but he doesn’t have the shrine room thing bc i think thats weird and yea.. Bad.
In the meantime Shen Wei does a lot of things mostly just protecting the great seal and working for Hell to keep the peace but still does other stuff. He still watches out for ZYL’s reincarnations but doesn’t do much besides make sure they don’t die a premature death. They meet again finally at the beginning of the series and the timeline resumes like canon. And that's my master plan that merges both drama logic and novel logic while making a much better timeline. (I hope that makes some sense)
Da Qing is still Kunlun’s pet cat and important. Novel backstory applies to him. And I already mentioned him kinda but as for Yezun (Gui Mian in the novel) his deal is similar as in the drama but just a ghost. And he is a big player in the great war, he thought Shen Wei abandoned him as a kid but they were just separated. Shen Wei doesn’t know it's him till the end of the war and couldn’t stop him in the OG timeline and vows to bring him to justice and make amends. Shen Wei continuously tries to explain things to him but he just won’t listen and is imprisoned in hell bc yk… war criminal stuff and yeah he’s the main antagonist trying to break the great seal bc he’s still made about the past. Idk. Yezun wasn’t well written in the novel OR the drama so like… honestly he just needs to be completely rewritten and I don’t care enough about that. He can just be a weak villain idk
the drama characterization stays the same for everyone else bc found family go brr. However for Lao Chu i… hmm… i think he should still be a zombie but the reason he killed someone should be related to his brother. I like that addition and then shen wei realized his sentence was unjust and exempted him. i like that storyline merger. bc the brother thing and him admiring Heipaoshi was drama only. in the novel lao chu just murdered some kid for a rlly whatever reason.
uhhh in terms of the cases… id make adjustments to most of them. i think the li qian case should be like the drama bc the novel just had her as a murderer and it was boring.
For the mountain river awl one was fine… novel version was funnier and more interesting action wise tbh… rip zyl and his exorbitant flirting. uhhh the whole reveal that shen wei was the soul reaper thing was kinda… ehh in the novel but i did love the comedy of afterwards Shen Wei pretending he went into cardiac arrest when he actually just… has no pulse bc he's a ghost.
ID KEEP THE WORTH IT SCENE AND RAIN SCENE… THOSE FUCK SO HARD… I love the drama for adding those every damn day. the novel version of zyl losing his sight sucked and was sooo boring.  Keep the drama version on that.
also id keep dr. cheng. i'm very pro dr. cheng and her friendship with shen wei it adds so much to his character imo. keep the fruit seller man and his wife for the merit brush..omg it adds SO MUCH the way the drama did it.. like the drams build up with the novels pace of that arc.. mwah. it felt like it dragged a bit in the drama but if it went faster and without the hospital ep and with sha ya (sorry sha ya) that would've been so good. tho keep novel version of da qings memory loss and lao li. that was rlly impactful.
id say keep some of the cases like the mirror one, the eyes doctor one, etc. just to like.. yk have more to fill in general.. novel pacing but drama characterization without the bs that wasn't fully realized. and novel ending ofc. And that’s it!!
I hope most of this makes some amount of sense  but it probably doesn’t. In my head it all tracks but like ik most of u don’t know anything about the novel so this sounds like gibberish. Also I know this would literally never happen but this is MY ideal merger of the two canons that I feel compelled to expand on for some reason. Anyways, as io said,, we need to rebuild guardian. Like literally let me and the mutuals write Guardian and it will be 500 times better.
