a few days ago my friend pointed out a bug on the ground so i crouched down to look at it and it was an acorn weevil!!!! i got so excited and i let it crawl on my hands for a little bit and i was just so fascinated and captivated by this little guy cause i don’t remember ever seeing a weevil in real life before and i love them so much!!! its little walk and its long snout and its round little body and its sweet round eyes were all just so delightful and i hope it lives a nice happy life just doing its thing cause it made me so happy to see it!
Nut weevils make me absolutely insane with joy so I understand your feelings! Let's admire one
[image description: a lineless digital doodle of a dark colored beetle in flight. Its front two pairs of legs are raised, with little marks around the end of its feet to emphasize them. It is almost as if it is excitedly raising its arms. A written ‘Wheeeeeeee’ curls around the right side of the beetle. end image description]

Look at that funky beetle! Nut weevils are beetles of the genus Curculio. They typically measure from 0.24 to 0.35 inches (6 to 9 mm). See that extra long snoot? It’s called a rostrum and females can have one that exceeds the length of their bodies. This elongated snout is the perfect tool for boring into nuts, which is where females lay their eggs. When newborn nut weevils hatch, their home is also a feast. They munch on the inside of a nut from summer through autumn, until their birth place finally drops to the ground. Once the nut has fallen, the larvae bury their way into the soil where they continue to develop—not resurfacing until they are fully grown, which can take up to two years. So acorn weevils live all over like everywhere and it’s so cool, so they eat acorns as you could guess but they also lay their eggs in them. So what they do is they dig into the soft part of the acorn by the top part then the weevils lay their eggs in acorns so when they hatch the weevil larva spends its time eating the nut flesh. When the acorn falls the grub knows it’s time to dig out. Squirrels with avoid ones with holes because they know there’s no acorn flesh and it’s dirty. They do this to many acorns because can’t put all your eggs in one basket.. now it’s not confirmed if the top of the acorn is rlly softer it’s hard to figure it out but it’s what we assume because they always lay eggs by the top
Want to see Ron DeSantis kicked in the nuts for 20 minutes straight?
Sure you do.
There was a "debate" last night between presidential hopefuls Ron DeSantis (R-Gov Florida) and Gavin Newsom (D-Gov California).
The debate was hosted by Fox News and moderated by Trump sycophant Sean Hannity (R-Brain Weevils).
So Fox News set this thing up thinking they'd steamroll the poor weak blue state governor with Fox News talking points, while also giving Ron DeSantis a much needed shot in the arm. Ron's polling has been uh, disastrous... he is down 40+ points in FLORIDA. His home state.
Anyhow. They set up this gunfight and DeSantis' gun jammed. Repeatedly. He stood there like a taxidermied monkey, stupid fake grin on his face, while Newsom hammered him with facts.
It was glorious.
I don't usually recommend these MeidasTouch videos because I'd rather watch the subject matter itself than listen to somebody explain why I'm watching something. But THIS time it provides excellent context, and chops up what would be a multi-hour ordeal into nice digestible chunks. Watching anything on Fox News makes me want to smash things after three minutes.
Oh, and Newsom is not running to replace Biden.
He said (at this debate!) he is not gonna be the 2024 Democratic nominee. It's Biden all the way as far as he is concerned. No, he's positioning himself as the guy who comes after Biden.
what is a little guy that has maxed out media literacy? i see most little guys aren't very literate :/ it's a darn shame, I'll tell you what!

Distribution: Cosmopolitan in distribution; native to the Far East. Most common in tropical and subtropical regions, but can survive in temperate conditions.
Habitat: Usually found in grain storage and processing plants where grains have been left undisturbed for some time.
Diet: Adults and larvae both feed on wheat, oats, rye, barley, rice, buckwheat, sorghum, cashew nuts, wild bird seed and corn. May also feed on beans, sunflower seeds and peas, and processed grains such as pasta and flour.
Description: Rice weevils are generally considered to be pests of storage facilities and processing plants, as they infest many types of grain, destroying it completely. Females chew holes inside grain kernels, inside which they deposit eggs (usually only one) in the hole, before sealing it up with a gelatinous secretion from their ovipositor. Once the larvae hatch, they feed on the grain, hollowing it out as they feed. Rice weevils spend their entire larval and pupal development inside the grain, before finally emerging as an adult.
When threatened, rice weevils will pull in their legs, fall to the ground and feign death.
Hey! Could I possibly get an ID on this little guy who came and crawled around on my hand for a bit while I was studying outside? I'm in the uk if that helps :D
