DeKay's Brownsnake (Storeria dekayi)
April 24, 2024
Southeastern Pennsylvania
Finally found one of these common snakes. I'm terrible at finding herps. This is a small snake, about a foot long (30 cm) as an adult.

Ground-nesting bee time! (Well, all the warm months are, but I see them mostly first thing in the spring before everything grows in.)

I knew that this was a new bee for me when I shot it, but it only just got IDed on iNaturalist, 7 1/2 months later. I used to research my own IDs, but I've gotten a bit lazy about that since I discovered iNat, and also I realized how often I used to be plain wrong.
