#So today I walked by a Church and got this sudden rush of nostalgia?#not nostalgia in a good sense #but in the sense that it reminded me of years ago #when my mother couldn't afford food all the time so we'd go there for their free weekly meal #and go to the food bank whenever we could #and realized that we haven't needed to do that in years #it sort of makes me tear up knowing she doesn't have to stress as much about money anymore #and knowing that I can finally afford to enjoy my life without having to worry as much about money week by week #sappy shit over but like #poverty aint fun brotherman #ok take a long walk off a short bridge now bye

I think as we grow up, we have to be really conscious of romanticizing the world we grew up in in order to scorn how the next generations are growing up.

Nostalgia isn't inherently bad, but especially in political spaces, be very wary of this idea that there is an Ideal Past we must Harken Back To.

It sucks to feel left behind, but such is the human condition. It isn't bad to feel nostalgic, but that doesn't mean that these new generations are inherently "lost" and "need to be saved (by you)", and I think that is very important to remember and try to be conscious of.

#politics #'the world you grew up in no longer exists' frankly... GOOD!#the world i personally grew up in was scary and lonely and traumatizing. no kid today should STILL be growing up like that #the whole 'nostalgia as a poltical means' is rooted in this idea that...#1) we all grew up in a hegemony 2) we all turned out the same 3) the way we grew up had more privileges afforded to us #and i personally like nostalgia! i like watching videocamera videos from 2005 and looking up super specific shit #but nostalgia does not a good world make #INSERT UMBERTO ECO'S FOURTEEN POINTS ON FASCISM #(though i don't always think nostalgia can lead to this in a political sense there is a fine line)#be very mindful of what motivates nostalgiaposting #is it because people miss childhood and how 'simple' it felt? or is there a different reason that motivates this type of posting?#are you romanticizing childhood to the point you are not remembering your childhood /at all/ but the *idea* of it?#and honestly it is SO jarring when my peers are nostalgic because it's like... we aren't even that old!!#it comes across like... the world is hard and it's getting harder and so we cannot chnage and must wistfully think of the past...#...and to me it comes across as almost... doomerist in how end-stage feelings of nostalgia and hopelessness seen #i feel compassion for the impulse to feel like your old life is over and you need to grieve it...#...but certainly that isn't the younger generations fault? especially because WE are now the ones rasing them and we still yet live #(even at our completely decrepit age of not even close to a mid-life crisis (sarcasm and lighthearted))

sooo glad we live in the universe where twdgs4 was rewritten to be about saving the school instead of the original lis2-esque on the road each-episode-is-a-new-location plot. really dodged a bullet there

dont know if it was due to the cuts and collapsing work environment (no budget for all the assets needed) or what but the school plot is just like the perfect setting for her to end her story. and we really almost got a plot about her.... just trying to make it back to her original house? oof

#my biggest problem with lis2 is that being on the road made a lot of your choices essentially meaningless #like wheres the threat of consequence when you know youll be gone by the next episode anyway?#the kids were originally gonna kick them out permanently.......Nightmare Scenario #the plot of her trying to get back 'home' is so silly honestly like its Just nostalgia/fan bait. convince me otherwise you cant #it makes no sense....she lived right outside a major city... that place is Not safe anymore #it wasnt even safe when she left it 8 years ago girl why would you go back #her finding a place to MAKE a new home and having to fight for it? with a community of her peers who love and respect her? so much better #shes a community leader now :) of a bunch of kids living secretly in the woods just trying to make a safe home for themselves #in a hostile world that wants them dead #love that for her #shes been managing adults since she was 11 and even before that tried to be a voice of reason. at 8 years old. community leader makes sense #s4 is just so narratively sound to me for clems character that i cant believe there was ever any other direction they wanted to go in #every time im thinking about how good s4 is i remember what it almost was......... and i am so grateful we got what we did #not only do we live in the universe where s4 is about the school but we Also live in the universe where s4 was un-cancelled :) yay #shit makes me so happy man. i remember clem is living happily at ericsons and my day is Immediately improved #these little fictional bitches in my head giving me free serotonin on command #it speaks #twdg

something i keep thinking about as i replay dark souls 1 in ng+ is how at any given point in a soulsborne game I'm going "wow i hate this area, i can't believe they put in such and such an enemy, ridiculous, What Do You Mean I Have To Climb Out Of Blightown" and I'm just low key annoyed all the time, BUT the overall lasting impression i come away with is generally "that place was super cool! i can't wait to go back someday". i really love how that is the typical from soft experience for me

dark souls 1 probably has this the most which is why it remains the best of the games for me

(castle sol is a glaring exception to this. seriously fuck that place)

Horror story concept where the general theme is how nostalgia can hide the truth/warp our perception

#idk i see all this weirdcore stuff #and liminal spaces #thats generally nostalgic to me in an odd sense #and it makes me think of those good memories #but seeing those pictures fills you with a sense of unease #and it makes me think about how honestly my nostalgia of events ties into that warped perception in another way #and how it could also be a commentary on how when we're young we dont fully understand the terribleness of the world #and we can only grasp it through monsters and fairytales #just ideas i have sometimes idk #monnie rambles

upon first listen i am yay TTPD and nay the anthology.

#i am so sorry i do not think we needed 30 songs #like the size of taylor's re-release albums with from the vault tracks make sense because it's nostalgia it's harkening back to when those #songs were made. it's delayed super deluxe album.#and then folklore and evermore are sisters but were released separately.#imo the anthology simply isn't as good as TTPD and both albums have misses. i think it just could've been paired down to like. 20 songs.#mira muses

I wonder how many mascot horrors we'll get to the point the toys and silly character designs they rooted and were based from lose the nostalgia that made the genre effective and normal toys arent recognized as toys anymore but scary escape boo boo's plush factory merch lookalikes

#i talk #this goes out to the ipad babies whos never stepped into a toys r us &only exposure to toys is 24 hours of garten of banban youtube videos #dont even know if toys r us is still holding up . those things used to be packed. my only recent memory now is one of them shutting down #dont know!! i have alot of thoughts on mascot horror. its just a shame recent developments seem like theyre going nowhere with the genre #i still think it could be good. most is just evil factory but i think thats nobodys fault. websites just push that content more than others #its such a common setting and plot it loses the suprise & the contrast of twisting nostalgia into something scary had #from how much recent titles always use the same formula with little to no changes. youll know what to expect #its diluted... but i really dont blame any developers for it. Its a tried and true method on getting media recognition really fast #hmmmmm if it makes sense...
