In the north of Skyrim, most especially around Winterhold and the Pale, the horker is a staple, and crucial to local lifestyles. A single horker yields a lot of meat, and its fat can be used as fuel for fire and to make soap; oil separated from the fat is also used as a stand-in for butter, which is particularly useful in coastal settlements that do not keep cattle. Horker hide can create excellent textiles to use for warm clothing as it retains a great deal of heat, and horker tusks are used for jewellery and ornaments and tend to be regarded as quite valuable, particularly by merchants from further south. Most small towns and villages in Winterhold and the Pale are communities of fisherfolk, and get much of their food that way; but their economies and access to other resources is often almost entirely reliant on horker hunting.

Merethic Era Falmer (snow elves)
I was thinking of doing a mini project about Merethic Tamriel and a documentation of the people that were living there in a sort of semi-historic way.
Of course most of it would probably not be entirely lore accurate and there will be a lot of headcanoning but it's fun regardless. So enjoy the first addition to this series.
Falmer: The falmer during the Merethic era were the tallest mer race on Nirn growing on average between 6 - 7 feet. They were also the hairiest and bulkiest on average due to the cold climate. Their culture and practices during this time were very similar to modern day nordic ones due to the cultural overlap and assimilation on the atmorans end when they first arrived to Skyrim.
They valued strength and honour. Their original gods are long lost now however historians speculate the modern nordic gods could share traits with the Falmer's old gods.
In the early Merethic era the snow elves invaded and seized what is currently the Summerset isles. This is how it is assumed Auri-El (An Altmeri/Aldmeri God) was introduced to Skyrim and later would become the primary god in the snow elven pantheon.
Furs, beards, and long hair was the norm in terms of falmer fashion for a long time due to the extreme weather however the shorter hair and beardless look though impractical in such weather was popularised in later years. Again influenced by the fashion trends on the much warmer summerset isles.
Generally speaking when the Falmer weren't invading distant lands or declaring wars with other clans they were a prospering civilisation and in the early days were much like the nords not particularly interested in magic. This was partly due to the fact Skyrim has large iron deposits meaning smithing and weaponry were the most practical but that didn't mean there was no magic at all.
Healers generally could manipulate the weave and tell or even change the future. But when Auri-el was popularised magic become a much larger part of the Falmers lives being combined and assimilated into what they already had. For example enchanting among smiths and manipulation of elements specific to Skyrim (Ice magic mostly).
These changes didn't come fast of course, the falmer were quite stubborn. But over time a cultural shift did happen going from axe-wielding barbarians (As the Aldmer called them) to a slightly more tame society that we know a little bit today.
This didn't come without its challenges however as while the falmer were changing the Atmorans living there were not and in fact had taken on a lot of the cultural aspects or even gods of the traditional falmer. This inevitably was the beginning of the end as tensions got higher with these cultural and religious differences it ended the only way it could, in a war. And well, you know the rest.
Currently the ancestors of the Merethic snow elves thrive in cave systems below ground. While the nords toil above ground, the nords frost resistance of course being a product of falmer and atmoran ancestors. Regardless both societies still hold the values the early Snow elves held. Strength and Honour.

When an Atmoran or Nord mourned a sibling, they'd wear a bear pelt, often from a black bear, to show their loss.
The bear was the totem animal of Tsun, the nordic god of trials and adversity. We see him in Sovngarde guarding the Whalebone bridge. He died defending Shor from other gods, this was remembered as one of their "Dead Gods" like Shor. The sibling connection is his the fact that he and his brother Stuhn, the god of ransom fraternity and justice, were shield-thanes to Shor. To mourn his brother's death he adorned parts of the bear into his armor. Making the animal a symbol of mourning a sibling and or a sign of true strength.
Tumblr media
Wearing a blackened bear cloak symbolized the mourning of a sibling and the strength to carry what was left behind. The surviving sibling would also be one of the few allowed to light the pyre for the deceased. Their world began with each other and one would end with it.

Am I the only one who wishes that my DB (usually a Nord) can respond to Thalmor comments/areas/situations with kinky remarks? Not only do they have a secret dungeon at the embassy, but they refer to Nords as “beasts” and have a one-liner about Nords being dogs and the Thalmor being their masters.
I’m sensing some Freudian slips. 👀

I'll continue my LWA posts on this blog instead of the other as to not mix my shit up. Anyways, here's some Chariot Headcanons I have:
Chariot knows at least 3 languages, and bits of others. This was of use to her in her international performances.
She's definetly used some money from her shows to donate, because she's kind like that.
She constantly hears students say the most atomically insane shit. Like any regular teacher.
She once cursed in front of her students, and it became the news of the week.

Skyrim/Nords Headcanons (Very long)
Skyrim Headcanon 1: The coasts of the northern holds (Particularly Winterhold and Hjaalmarch) have a unique tradition in that clam and shellfish gatherers will strip most or all of their clothes and then smear themselves with the grease and oils of horkers and chub loons. By smearing themselves with horker grease, this not only traps heat within the gatherers bodies but also helps attract the small shellfish they harvest to feed their families or sell at the market.
Skyrim Headcanon 2: Those few farmers that live in Skyrim (Along with several Orsimer strongholds and Reachfolk tribes) have a complex trade system with the Giants, (Likewise for the Giants) with an equivalent exchange for whatever spiral-painted cows are sacrificed/gifted to the Giants. It is customary in Giant culture that the individual must grant the farmer that Cows weight in mammoth cheese or furs, that or they may stand guard and protect the farm during the night from wild animals.
Of course, this is just one example of the Giant and Nord trading system, and it is undeniably far more complex than that. For example, the Stormcloaks trade exchange with the Giants involves defending their mammoths from poachers. In exchange, several of the Giants are expected to help fight for the Stormcloak’s cause of an independent Skyrim. This exchange is kept so long as either party does what is expected of their duties.
Most small peoples/Giant relations often involve this trade and the duty of repaying that generosity, in whatever way they may be able to. Also, Giants do eat the Cows they are given.
Skyrim Headcanon 3: The Bards College within the Haafingar Hold actually had an extensive knowledge, history, and grasp in magic. Students learning from the college would learn spells that would allow them to pacify wildlife, boost the physical, mental, and spiritual abilities of friends & allies, and even counteract the effects of other spells and magic through their music. Indeed, even in the 4th Era where many Nords grew somewhat disgruntled by magic, the Bards College still continued on with its magical traditions, reasoning that the ability to counteract other magic with music would allow them to better fight the Thalmor.
As for instruments, members of the Bards College would use a large variety of them, whether it be the talharpa, the lyre, drums, the jaw’s harp, flutes, and musical horns. They’ve picked up a variety of other instruments and musical styles from around Tamriel as well, but they still mostly teach the traditional instruments used by the Nords. Folks from the Bards College also tattoo themselves with musical-themed tattoos, along with birds.
Skyrim Headcanon 4: Being a major hub for trade between Morrowind and Skyrim alike, the Rift has seen a small influx of creatures native to the former, in particular the Guar, (Due to their intellect, omnivorous diet, and the appeal of a giant lizard as a mount) a semi-giany (4 inch long) species of bee known as the Lightning Bees, (Make good honey for mead, but are aggressive and emit electric shocks through magic. Bards are needed to keep them docile) and the Kwama.
The Kwama in particular is a noted point of interest in the 4th era, as a third of all Kwama mining takes place within the Rift since the Red Mountain’s eruption, many members of House Hlaalu remaining in Skyrim after they lost their seat as a Great House. A breeding population of Silt Striders has also become established within the hold, snacking on the sweet leaves of the autumnal forests. They are a protected species within the Rift.
Although the members of House Hlaalu would become a house associated with the underworld and illegal dealings back in the home province, most of the members of the House in the Rift would be more honest Kwama miners and traders. Disturbed by their former compatriots openly and publicly turning to crime, these former House Hlaalu members would renounce their title, wishing to not be associated with the criminal underworld by proxy.
Skyrim Headcanon 5: Nords fucking love bees!!!
Okay, to be more specific they love bees due to their immense enjoyment of mead, so many of the southern holds would have many large bee farms. The northern holds (Or the rich) meanwhile create greenhouses to contain the bees and lots of flowers for them to pollinate and create honey out of. Riften is the unofficial capital of bee farming, as its pleasant environment compared to the rest of Skyrim allows for the largest and highest quality bee farms.
Of course, farming bees for honey isn’t their only use. For example, the Nords have quite a knack for snacking on the bees themselves, (Roasted) as they make a quick and energizing snack for both adults and children. The beeswax can be used to make candles and skin cream, the latter being of particular importance as Skyrim’s cold environment leads to dry skin.
They’ll also use every part of a bee hive, such as bee pollen, propolis, and on occasion even royal jelly. The royal jelly is used to make particularly potent medications and can be distilled as a drink for the jarls and other high-status folk, even if it’s less sweet than honey.
Skyrim Headcanon 6: The Ice Tribes were strange, sapient constructs made of ice that suddenly appeared during the late 3rd Era, the only possible evidence to their appearance being several icebergs that drifted towards northern High Rock and Skyrim. Little is known about them other than the fact they wielded enchanted ice and snow in their battles against the peoples of Tamriel, and were also known to raise the dead as their personal servants in several different eyewitness reports.
They were invincible to all except for particularly strong soul-trapping spells, Daedric and Dwemer weapons, and certain glasses such as ebony, elven glass, and obsidian. Their undead servants meanwhile were extremely sensitive to heat, even among the fellow undead. Eventually, these strange beings would go extinct, unable to compete against the peoples of Tamriel and their superior magical knowledge.
In Skyrim, these beings were compared to the ancient ice demons that the Nord’s Atmoran ancestors historically fought against. Although notable for being called the Atmoran’s greatest opponents in the old tales, they were given no true name, only being nicknamed “The Others.”
Skyrim Headcanon 7: Eastmarch is a Hold famous for its extensive amounts of hot springs and geothermal activity, which the residents have made extensive use out of. Villagers would not take long, warm baths within the more modestly-heated springs, but they will also use these springs as a natural hotpot to steam/boil food, which saves on firewood and gives the food a rich taste. Minerals can also be harvested from the springs, though these are historically controlled harvests instituted by the Jarls in fear of the springs becoming destroyed or dried up.
Windhelm can credit its continued existence as one of Skyrim’s largest and oldest cities from these springs, as an extensive pipe system created during the 3rd Era allowed for the spring water to flow through, keeping the city warm and providing a constant and nearby supply of mineral-rich water for the inhabitants to use. Not all was well unfortunately, as the springs were historically used as a form of execution on criminals and Falmer slaves, their bodies boiled and then dissolved within the boiling pools of water. This practice has thankfully stopped.
Skyrim Headcanon 8: Historically, Nord culture emphasized the rite of adulthood through hunting. This came in the form of small groups of young Nordic men and women having to travel to the wilderness and work together to slaughter a large animal to bring back to their village/clan, either a bear or troll in most Holds. Usually, this small group of adolescent hunters is watched over by an adult warden, ready to jump in should the hunt end in disaster for them.
This practice waned during the 3rd Era, practiced only by Jarl successors or the High King’s inheritor. However, it would regrow in popularity due to the aftermath of the Great War and the nationalism of an Independent Skyrim, as well as the interest of the younger generation “going back to their roots” culturally. Ulfric’s commanders were chosen based on how well they led their comrades against bandits or Falmer.
Some of the Hold's adult rites involved hunting different animals, such as Hjaalmarch having the youth hunt a chaurus reaper or Winterhold’s rite of citizenship being given once a group managed to kill an ice wraith together. The Reach Once had its youth hunt Dwemer Anuminculi as an adult rite, which led to predictably disastrous results.
Skyrim Headcanon 9: Examples of Snow Elf architecture outside of the Chantry of Auri-El actually exist, but they are all underground! The Snow Elves alongside the Dwemer teleported most of their important buildings so that they wouldn’t get destroyed and repurposed by the Nords. As of today, these buildings are still utilized as places of worship or habitation by the modern Falmer, albeit the religion they worship is a little different, as they have included several Daedra (Most prominently Malacath) into their faith and sun worship has been abandoned entirely in favor of worshipping heat in general.
Skyrim Headcanon 10: Final and brief headcanon for Skyrim that being that Whiterun has a high werewolf population (Due to the Companions and the “lucky” few that got their specific strain of lycanthropy) but surprisingly few werewolf-related deaths. Because of this fact, Werewolves are given just a bit more respect and are given far less fear than in other regions, as many travelers and locals find themselves getting rescued from a wild animal or bandits by those blessed by Hircine.

WIP Wednesday
I’m still alive and haven’t melted into a puddle yet, but the intense heat (and my new job) has sapped every ounce of my energy and I’m way behind on my dash and on sharing WIPs. Thank you @sylvienerevarine and @thequeenofthewinter for thinking of me! I’m sorry I didn’t respond sooner.
It’s an art one this week - I’m still writing, just veeerrrry slowly. I’ve also been working on reimagining the rest of the Skyrim jarls. I’ve done the ladies already, so I started in on the dudes. It’s still very much a WIP, but here’s a preview of Siddgeir, Korir, and Skald the Elder with their new look based on my clothing of Skyrim headcanons. Maybe once I get these guys done I’ll do the alternate Jarls and complete the set!

What happens to past faces of Aedra and Daedra when they are replaced?
Ignore for a second that time does not work the same way outside Mundus
Instead imagine that an entirely new divine takes their place, cannibalizing their power from the old incarnation, letting it starve and wither.
Think of the Nordic rune god Jhunal, divine of Hermetic orders and wisdom. Discarded by the Nords for the relation to Herma Mora, the second known and more violent incarnation of the knowledge demon.
Does his spirit still battle this incarnation of the daedric lord?? Does he still answer prayers from sundered shrines? Is he angry? Mournful of his identity lost? Mournful for his time with the title and authority when the world was young?
Or are reimagined gods frozen in time? Unaware of the change, discarded like a dead skin, did it hurt? did they know it was happening? What could it have felt like as he watched from his domain, the mortals, who had slowly turned against him, spoke a new god into existence under Alysia's' name?
Or maybe they die.
Maybe Jhunal is dead, the woodland man won, the owl god now a corpse locked away in the eldrich halls of Apocrapha under an infinite ocean, does his bones yearn for the open sky a suffocating depth away? Does he yearn for rest? Is there peace in the frozen wasteland of Atmora for a dead god? Can the stillness of a dead home-land be peaceful? Does the woodland man wait for him there now? Can two discarded corpses find meaning in eachother, or do they rest for eternity in the wasteland?
Yet what marvels are lost with his passing. What was it like to influence the first Nordic clever men? Help hone their sorcery into enchanted stahlrim and massive city building ability. What was the first encounter with the woodland man like? Did they shape eachother? How did the Rune god earn his name, was it through existing Atmoran rune systems carved by his own hand? or was it taken from the snow elves and adopted in conquest?
Needless to say..
TREAT. All. INCARNATIONS. OF. AEDRA. AND. DEADRA. LIKE. DYNANIC. CHARACTERS. ITS. SO. MUCH. FUN !!!!

Hi! What do you think the different peoples of Tamriel would sound like if they spoke Castellano?
HI ANON TY FOR THE ASK!! CRACKS KNUCKLES!!!!! this is all pulled from my personal experience talking to Spanish speakers from many different places! It's just about the sounds and dialects, but since these are fantasy people it's hard to draw direct parallels. Maybe I can just offer some loose thoughts!
Altmer speak much like Rioplatense Spanish (Buenos Aires and Uruguay— my dialect), they sound nasal, and their SH pronunciation of Ys and LLs is unique. Maybe Auridonians have their own form of lunfardo including vesre speech (i can explain if you want elaboration!)
Argonians have diverse dialects. Their voices have a very low cadence and their speech ranges from slow to extremely fast. Js, Shs, Ys, Chs and Ss all have a hissing sound to them. I don't think I can parallel it, but the tone and cadence would possibly sound like a very slow-speaking Colombian or a very Fast-speaking Paraguayan depending on where the Argonian is from, though since their lips are not like ours, there's no real human sound that really resembles theirs closely.
Bosmer speak like Chile and Paraguay do, with their own unique words, weaving them fast and tight together. Since the Valenwood is so large, their dialects are also very diverse.
Bretons are closest to Castellano Spanish from Castilla. You know what I mean. They call everyone usted and formal vos, too, unless they want to offend you.
Dunmer exist in the liminal, border areas of Spanish and languages like Portuguese, French and Italian. They speak it with a sound that's unique to them, a lilt that's closed and affected similarly to Altmer but somehow too like night and day. The Pyrenees, maybe?
Imperials straight up speak something like Cocoliche (the creole language/dialect of Italian immigrants in Hispanoamérica) but they do it very cockily, like their dialect is the only proper way to speak.
Khajiit, like Argonians, have a unique physiology and I don't think you can truly compare them to a human accent, but their Rs are trilled and purred, voices either low or high. Each furstock has their own specific tonal inflections. Maybe a blend between Andalusian and Venezuelan sounds could work here but again, I couldn't really compare.
Nords speak like communities of Anglo-Saxon descent in the Andes mountains do, pronouncing each phoneme strongly yet with ease in different registers and situations.
Redguards have a deep tone to their voices but speak melodically, very unlike Altmer and Dunmer, and closest to Bretons though not by much. A parallel could be a blend of Center-american and Barcelonian accent, but I'm not sure.
Let me know your opinions!

Random LWA headcanons
Croix listens to rock music (mainly grunge, metal, alt rock, punk rock). Her Favorite band is Korn.
Remember Marjolaine (that rockstar in the samhain episode)? Croix and Chariot are/were definetly friends with her. Or at the very least acquaintances (Btw its were Croix got her music taste from).
Chariot doesn't really listen to rock but will ocassionally listen to it with Croix. She's into 80's-90's pop music.
Chariot wrote some plays back in her days where she performed. She ocassionally changes them and shows them to Akko.
Akko can eat anything sour with no reaction. I don't think I need to explain this one.
Amanda will mock Chariot and Croix in a friendly manner. She has a good relationship with Professor Nelson after season 2 but still hates Finnelan.
Amanda once told Finnelan to kiss her ass... Croix was involved before, during and after.
Amanda blasts classical music out loud to annoy Diana. Diana blasts country music out loud to annoy Amanda. The rest of the new Nine watch this in confusion.
Akko asked Chariot to not be a mother figure to Diana because they're dating and it would be weird. Chariot purposefully "ignores" Akko.
Diana got EXTREMELY emotionally attached to Croix and Chariot after season 2 due to them showing her motherly affection she hadn't received in so long.
Croix and Chariot are both trans women. They'll help each other with their daily shots and are openly supportive to transgender/genderqueer people.
Chariot has ADHD and Croix has ASD. They both helped Akko to recognize her symptoms and get diagnosed with ADHD.
The new nine always hang out with eachother on the weekends. Croix, Akko, and Amanda love prank calling people, even if they're in the same room as them. Chariot, Diana, and Lotte drink tea together. Sucy and Constanze play videogames.
Croix and Constanze love to fix things together. Sometimes they even fix things for the school.
Alright, that's the end of my post. I may do more. 😊

Purely headcanon but bear with me for a sec. Chariot du Nord getting tattooed. Given that she is an astrologer, she gets an entire map of the stars tattooed over her entire just, specifically one which, when interpreted through astrology, actually holds a very significant meaning for her. Additionally, it just so happens that the Ursa Major constellation is near her collarbone while the Southern Cross is right above her thigh, which led to Croix making a habit of kissing the former and grazing her hand over the latter when she's alone with her wife after they get back together
Added bonus but adult Akko getting tattoos for all the important people in her life, one for her mom and one for her dad, one for Lotte and Sucy each, one for Diana obviously, and for Chariot, the Ursa Major constellation tattooed over her knuckles

If a nord survived getting struck by lightning they probably think Kyne was either mad at them or was testing them.
Depends on the Nord's mindset at the time.

Baseless Headcanon: Instead of drab greys and dark colors, the Snow Elves wrapped their dead in silks of many colors, embroidered with symbols of their deeds in life and adorned with the names of the deceased’s beloved ones: family members, friends, lovers, apprentices, there was scarcely a shroud that wasn’t covered in names. These shrouds were used to temporarily inter the dead, a sort of final embrace from those whose lives they touched, before their cremation and scattering.
These shrouds were burned with the deceased.

Tarak Discription and Personality
-Being an Altmer/Nord mix he definitely has height and muscle on his side, got the best of both worlds in his opinion
-stands at 6’2 and is very intimidating to those who don’t know him, reality is he’s a softy
-Aquamarine eyes, even when he became a vampire his eyes stayed the same, Harkon found it interesting and very beautiful, too bad he’s dead. (Sorry goth daddy)
-Has really long light blonde hair (like that of Alucard from CastleVania) keeps it in a high ponytail with a few strands hanging free here and there.
-Has lots of scars and bite marks all over his arms and torso from when he was a young man, caused by bears.
-Sometimes is really dense in dire situations, don’t get me wrong, he’s smart but very easy to distract.
-Loves sword training, he considers himself a spellsword.
-has an attraction towards mer, he doesn’t understand why but he can never get attracted to anyone who isn’t an elf (sorry Lydia)
-Visits Ondolemar often just to chat, mostly-
-Has two companions that follow him around,
a dark elf mercenary named Teldryn and a wood elf named Faendal, loves them both unconditionally even if they are idiots.
-Polyamorous as hell, goes every direction.
-loves spicy food so much, he makes sure Ronthil keeps a stocked supply of spicy ingredients.
-can and still will eat human food, even as a vampire, to him most blood taste too bland, unless you’re a Dunmer, he likes the spicy kick their blood seems to have, just ask Savos.
-Has a special place in his heart for Ancano even though he tried to kill him.
-Considers Gelebor his true husband. Still loves those close to him.
