Deep in a cave nodragon knows of, the lost royal SandWing Sister and her dear friend, a powerful moon god, study an egg they've acquired. With any luck, this MoonWing will be able to give her gifts to the first non-NightWing in Pyrrhian history.
A completed commission for a client on Instagram!! I had an absolute blast working on this piece, particularly as I got to work with a character I designed and sold over a year ago, now named "Cephi" by the client ->
MoonWings are a very near and dear project to me and I'm always excited when others enjoy them too. I hope to make some more fantribe adopts as well!

Mmm something something the one nightwing kid from the volcano who was painting with moon in her book? Mightyclaws I think? Just thinking about him n moon I love the poor little nightwings I live them so every single one of those poor asthma ridden smoke bags <3
Anyway here's the actual thingy
She had so many, more than I had ever seen on even Morrowseer, even with his numerous expeditions out to the rainforest
She didn't even notice at first
When she first arrived at the village everyone stared at her enviously because of her upbringing sure, but after a while it became because she had so many with us having so few, and sure, slowly we gained some but nodragon quite caught up to her amount, never came near the abundant nebula that were smattered across her scales.
Most dragons moved on, but I didn't, I was always so envious.
So when she came in the arts cave and started painting, and asked why the sky in mine had so many stars and why even bother with them if the smoke that choked the night was going to smother them anyway, I lost it.
And she just sat there. And gave me that look.
The look that was only meant to come from
others.
The signature pitying look, the oh your poor thing well atleast you don't have to breathe smoke now
atleast you have fresh fruit and a place to live safely
atleast the rainwings are the lazy ones so they are the best ones to share with
atleast you don't have to tell lies anymore
atleast your on even ground now
atleast you'll be humbled now, perhaps you won't try anything like that next time war breaks out you ambitious freaks
An outsider in her own tribe indeed.
She has way too many stars

As much as Fluttershy insisted everything would be okay, Marble Pie couldn’t shake the feeling that welcoming a baby dragon into their home would backfire...literally. This was a fire-breathing creature! A baby at that, one who didn’t know how to control their power! Marble feared for herself, her family, and the life they’d built.
It could all get burnt down in an instant. But maybe that was needed...metaphorically of course.
Marble tried to put aside her worries to support her wife’s decision. For soon enough the egg hatched! The baby dragon was now the newest addition to the family no matter how she felt about it.
Fluttershy was absolutely enamored by the baby as she cradled her, looking down on her with the same motherly love as when she held Sandpiper for the first time.
“Oh dear, isn’t she precious? Just look at her tiny little feet, she’s just like a baby mouse!”
She turned the baby’s face up towards Marble with the beaming face of a proud new mother.
“Would you like to hold her?”
Marble hesitated. In her eyes this was a huge risk, she had no idea what a newly-hatched dragon was capable of. It was like having a live grenade in her house.
But as she looked down at the little one, she also saw a baby.
Maybe she was worrying too much. She always did, she knew this. The baby was helpless and small like any newborn, with nopony—and nodragon—to depend on except Marble and her family. So she might as well extend some grace to the little one.
“Mmhm.”
Fluttershy gently placed the baby into Marble’s outstretched arms, cradling her head with a hoof and cradling her wife with one of her wings.
“Would you like to name her, honey?”
Marble almost felt bad for thinking so horribly about the little one as she cradled her in her hooves. This wasn’t the ferocious beast she feared, this was just a baby no different than any pony foal. Her earthy, rosy hue made Marble think of her favorite herb, sweet despite any bitter feelings she might have held.
“Hmm, I like Rosemary.”
“Oh, that’s a wonderful name! Rosemary is perfect for our daughter.”
Daughter.
Marble couldn’t help but grimace even as her wife leaned in to kiss her cheek. She could accept taking care of a helpless baby but this would take some getting used to.
Then Rosemary began to squirm and whimper.
“Is somepony—er, somedragon getting a little fussy?”
Fluttershy noticed right away, nudging her wife’s hooves to bounce her lightly.
But as she opened her mouth Marble’s instincts took over. She was already spitting fire! She knew this was a bad idea! She thrust Rosemary into Fluttershy’s arms like a hot potato, making sure she faced away from her wife so she wouldn’t get burnt too.
But all that came out was a burp.
Marble couldn’t help but feel instantly ashamed. Fire was a real danger, but she was a little too quick to react to something so simple, something that would have been totally normal if Rosemary were a baby pony.
“I-I’m sorry, I’m new to this...”
Her wife frowned softly at her knee-jerk reaction, but was quick to become comforting again as she brushed a reassuring wing against Marble’s back.
“Don’t worry. You’ll get used to it.”

St David's was a highlight today. Hike around, run on clifftops, gasp at buildings that are 800+ years in the making (and a story far further back than that). Ploughman's for lunch. That cheese!
