Whumptober Day Seven

This one is a little rough due to it being lowkey last minute, but it works.

Bill was going to kill him.

If the gunshot wound didn’t first.

Breathing harshly through his nose, Carlos ground his teeth and struggled to keep his hands clamped around the bleeding wound in his gut. He should have listened to his superior officer, he knew that, but when their suspect had taken off…

Carlos instinctively followed. Rounding a corner into a dead-end alleyway, Carlos hadn’t realized he’d passed the suspect’s hiding place until noise alerted him and the bastard fired his weapon. He’d fallen in such a way that his phone had been crushed under his weight, and the brick walls around him prevent his comm from getting or sending a signal. So as if the prospect of bleeding out wasn’t enough… the radio silence was.

Now, presently, Carlos was slumped up against a wall beside a dumpster and hoping Bill got to him before the sweet call of oblivion did.

Black danced at the edges of his vision, prompting a spike of fear. Carlos… really didn’t want to die. How many times had Bill chewed him over his recklessness and how he could have gotten hurt by not thinking things through?

A bitter laugh bubbled up in Carlos’s chest. Apparently, not enough. He let his head fall back against the wall behind him, staring up at the sky over him, blue with streaks of clouds rolling by. His eyes began to close.

Please Bill… Carlos thought. I don’t want to die… not like this…

As the darkness finally consumed him, Carlos could’ve sworn he heard someone call his name.
