Still rereading TG and kinda in love with the momentum of this whole scene, as well as its symbolic.

You see, Shuu boasts about ghouls not really “fighting” or being able to win unless they take their kagune out, but he actually gets stopped by three ghouls who fight him in three different ways:

Kaneki agrees to get bitten

so that Touka can get her kagune out as shit gets insanely real

And Nishiki intervenes as a living shield to stop Shuu from eating Kimi

But also, it’s because Touka gets her kagune out to fight him that Kimi ends up seeing her true form as a ghoul, leading to another very meaningful scene of the series...

So overall, these scenes actually serve to depict the kagune as a definite part of ghoul aesthetic rather than reducing it to just being a fighting weapon, as some ghouls like Shuu, or Touka in that scene (or even the CCG with quinque weapons), seem to believe.

What’s even funnier is that in the Aogiri arc, Shuu makes a similar comment to Uta who’s fighting bare-handed, because he wants to see what kind of kagune Uta has and...

...Uta’s also like “nah, kagune aren’t about fighting”. xDDD

TL;DR even before :Re and the idea of a human/ghoul possible coexistence, Ishida-sensei was already introducing the concept for both ghouls and CCG to stop seeing ghouls’ kagune only as a weapon possibility.

many mixed feelings on tokyo ghoul but i adore how it depicts love at times. nishiki and kimi’s relationship especially still stands out to me years after finishing the manga because, in a world full of ghouls and humans faking emotions just to get close enough for the kill, these two coming to genuinely love each other is incredibly refreshing. nishiki being able to empathize with kimi’s depression and look past her being human? him originally seeking her out to eat but learning to love all that is her the longer he stays? kimi being rescued by the antithesis of humanity who helps her stay alive? her recognizing that nishiki was never given a fair shot at life and offering herself as a meal? there’s a reason they’re still some of my favorite characters in the story

Eid Mubarak everyone! Some Tokyo Ghoul Halalverse headcanons for the day and some for this month! A lot of these are courtesy of @backgroundcharacterno7 <3

Haise spends his Eid morning stress cooking he forgets to read his verses at least bc he couldn’t go to Eid prayer. If henna is involved Saiko is smudging that shit to play Project Diva on her PSP. Mutsuki is helping Haise in the kitchen to manage the stress and has a hard dysphoria day going to the masjid. Urie would try to work out extra hard after sehri/suhoor and passes out.

Furuta is banned from the masjid because he keeps shouting “I HAVE A BOMB”, sister Rize is nowhere to be found because he cannot lower his gaze.

Hysy Artmask Studio makes bank on chaandrat because he’s doing everyone’s mehendi. Itori reveals a little more skin the more the next Muslim dudebro asks her to wear the hijab.

Eto probably didn’t even bother to celebrate because she’s like “I didn’t even fast all month” but gets push from Hinami and maybe Naki. Naki is still trying to recite Surahs as we speak. It’s going just as well as you think.

Kimi is fighting the WhatsApp aunties all Ramadan, Nishiki keeps trying to lecture Touka about the hijab only to get strangled with one. Hinami and Touka are the ones that have to take care of all the kids on Eid, and at least gets them candy or coffee in smaller doses.

Ayato tried to sit around food throughout his fasts to prove how much of a tough guy he is.

Juuzou goes to Eid prayer and parties for food, Hanbee has to watch him before someone tries to tell Juuzou to move to the ladies section and about how permissible his stitches are. Hanbee is also left to single parent on Eid.

My work for the Tokyo Ghoul pair up event with the wonderful writer @tg-headcanons !! PSYB is the best thing that happened to me this year and it helped me through my hardest time of the year so I'm really grateful.

I’ve broken and started writing a Nishikimi fic and you know what? I think Kimi is the freak in that relationship. I’m a Weird Little Freak Kimi truther. That woman has something wrong with her the way that only appears in the wretched mix of Healthcare major and Monsterfucker. I bet she was so excited for Nishiki to be a ghoul because that girl ain’t right and is so into that both as someone who wanted to fuck a vampire and as a biologist.
