was there overlap between kaneki's mom being alive and kaneki knowing hide? would it be conceivable to say no, hide never knew kaneki's mom?
#iirc they met when they were 8 or so and Kaneki's mom died when he was 10#I'm pretty sure there was also a scene where Hide says he changed after his mom died#So there was some overlap but I think it's still likely they never met#I doubt kaneki would've been allowed to have friends over
