General Opinion over said character: very interesting perspective on the ghouls vs. humans conflict, as a human who takes no pleasure in killing ghouls despite their objective threat to humanity. He’s a Haise type that has given up, essentially. he should have had a stronger presence if the goal was to “resolve” the conflict, but ishida hated him (and tatara).

imagine akiramon workplace drama like the office or something

Aaaaa I want to explore that alternate line in Akiramon Week so I have a few hcs of what it could be like if they got into a relationship while still working in the CCG

Please keep in mind this is my first request and I suck at it

-Upon returning alive and healthy from the suicide mission in the 20th district, everyone gains promotions, Amon becomes special investigator, and Akira, Seidou and Juuzou become first class

-The work becomes more boring, Amon is no longer Akira's supervisor, she is more focused on quinque research, but eventually the team is put together for a task force, maybe about torso or nutcracker

-Amon uses the chance to get closer to Akira, feelings for her have grown more intense, but she has kept herself busy these past few months. He is also intimidated by the fact that the rivalry with Takizawa has turned into a friendship, and the fact that Akira seems to have many suitors in the research department

- Still, Houji sets them up to go out together, just the two of them, the tables are turned and Amon gets drunk, he declares his love for Akira

-She's a little skeptical at first, Amon has an internal crisis remembering the other day, he doesn't remember Akira's reaction, and she treats him normally at work, which is torturous

-At the end of the day, he confronts her, declaring himself sober this time and Akira is amused, but she doesn't show it by being serious.When Amon glares at her with an expectant outburst, Akira approaches, slowly, step by step, and glares at him. Amon realizes that she isn't getting any closer than that, and kisses her

-Akira is happy with the kiss, but she is still cruel to Amon, she makes him take her on dates and be nice to her, until she decides to accept the dating proposal before Amon has a meltdown

-Then, the secret relationship begins, Akira doesn't want to be the target of gossip, her family is always a target, Amon doesn't like the idea either

-but they eventually leave clues, a quick, strong, unobtrusive grip on hands as they pass each other, a lingering look, Amon doesn't smile easily despite being a gentle soul, but his mood is so mellow lately

- Hey, we know Amon's eyesight is bad, but does he really have to lean over her far to read a detail of the report?

-Akira looks different too, Takizawa notices first, she eats after nine, then starts looking at her phone more often, she even got giggly one day! However, Takizawa is the only witness and no one believes him

-And seriously, how many times can a quinque break? Amon attends Akira's lab more often than he attends committee meetings

-One night, he is focused on finding out who the torso is, Akira has a scar on her leg and it worries him constantly Amon is almost asleep in the office, when only he and Akira are there, when he feels her arms wrapped around his neck

-He was very stiff at first when doing something in the office, but he just relaxes, leaning back and kissing her softly

-However, the peaceful moment is interrupted by none other than Juuzou, returning to fetch sweets from his hideout. He doesn't intend to care so much until he sees Amon's pale face, Juuzou laughs evilly

- Everyone gets weird when Amon starts being nice to Juuzou (like, extremely nice), he helps him with his reports, shares sweets with him and even lets him handle Doujima

- Houji notices everything, he is doing a parallel investigation, writing down all the complaints Seidou and Juuzou make about Akira and Amon

-Amon has to be nice to Seidou too, it ends up being very tiring, but Akira always gets rid of all the tiredness

-When the bomb goes off, Akira ends up suffering more from the gossip, but she can defend herself well with smart words and comments, however most female employees are wanting her head on a silver platter

-Amon also listens to criticism, but most of the comments are made behind his back, to avoid further gossip they try to act separately, Akira makes a team with Seidou, who managed to get promoted to senior investigator with her, they parallel investigate the nutcracker

-But the worst (for Amon) is yet to come, when he walks into his own office at the end of a day and is greeted by Marude Itsuki.

-The man makes him sit down before he can ask why, it doesn't matter if Amon can punch Marude, the man is still his boss and worse, he is also threatening, especially when he displays a pistol and loads it with bullets in front of Amon

-They have a serious conversation about intentions and good manners with women

-Marude goes out with Houji to drink, Amon is on his blacklist, he even cries when he realizes that his friend's daughter has grown up

-In the end, realizing that he can't spend as much time with Akira at the CCG, Amon proposes that they live together, It's daring and he fears he'll actually end up getting shot by Marude, but to his happiness, Akira finds the way out extremely logical and perfect.

There is something extremely extremely wrong with both of them and normally that makes any sexual dynamic with anyone else unbearable, it just so happens that their dysfunction slots perfectly in with each other. The reason they started hooking up is because Houji’s sexual repression and shame being reflected back at him violently by something he saw as an animal in the shape of the body he wants for himself was so incredibly attractive that he abandoned all morals, and Tatara’s chance to debase the man he hates most in the world sexually before killing him was so arousing that he let him continue to live so he can keep doing it, but the assumption he would eventually kill him when he’s satisfied was half of why it was hot

It started when they were fighting. Kousuke’s partner had already died in the battle, and it was just him and Tatara during a raid. Confident that he was going to kill an already injured Houji easily, Tatara was taunting him, telling him he smells like a dead thing already and before he could land the killing blow, he hesitated because he can smell the distinct smell of A MAN WHO IS HORNY. It was so surprising and disarming that he was shocked into stillness and it gave Houji’s comrades enough time to catch up and defend him. But having Learned Something About Himself, the minute Kousuke was cleared to leave he decided to track down tatara off the clock and just observe him, or talk to him, to figure out why that did it for him because more than he’s concerned with killing ghouls, he’s concerned with his image. Being a somewhat public figure in an old fashioned institution, being gay is bad enough for his reputation, but being into a ghoul is so much worse

He did manage to track Tatara down to an abandoned building, and while armed with his q-bullet pistol, he was clearly not sent ready to take down a kakuja and when Tatara confronted him, he was very weirdly examining him and told him he just wants to talk, obviously having not planned this well. But one thing (tatara pinning him to a wall by his throat) led to another (Houji biting his hand) and the next thing they knew Tatara was rushing out of the building, horribly ashamed that he left Kousuke alive and desperate to not think about what he just did. Houji was alive, a few broken ribs, an open wound on his belly, and blood on his thighs aside, he was alive. Their first time landed him in the hospital, but only after he dragged himself home to clean up the evidence of what really happened so he could claim he was just mugged. But it haunted him. Not because the violent, bloody sex with that creature that wanted him dead hurt him, but because it was good. Because none of the times he’d forced himself to sleep with a woman for his image, not even any of the times he met up with a man somewhere hidden away, compared to how good it was with that monster

Tatara wasn’t doing much better either because he learned that not only would he let his sworn enemy live for no other reason than sexual gratification, but that he was going to do it again. And he did. Next time they fought, he dragged him off, and it seems they both expected this. He told himself that he couldn’t kill him yet because he hasn’t debased him enough, hasn’t ruined him enough, that he’ll do it once he’s fucked him in all the most disgusting ways possible and then he’ll kill him. And that did it for him, he didn’t like other ghouls being close with him, and that made sex difficult when he found himself wanting it, but with something weak enough to never threaten him and hated enough that he can enjoy causing needless harm, he was perfect

It became routine. They’d meet in battle, they’d shoot and stab and bite and slash just like they would when trying to kill one another, sometimes they really were trying to kill one another, but they’d pull that one punch, they’d hesitate on that final blow, and then the winner would drag the loser away to fuck like animals, then Tatara would leave. But it changed. Houji found himself slipping the number of his burner phone to Tatara after one of their hookups, Tatara found himself calling it from a victim’s phone, Houji would tell him a time and place. They’d meet up at a shady motel, but by now, they can’t just fuck. They need to fight first, and spilled a lot of blood on those dirty carpets

Tatara mostly topped at first. It’s not a preference, it’s a power trip. Because Houji was used to topping and Tatara knows humans have ideas about this being a power thing, and he wanted to hurt him. Houji, used to exerting power over human partners this way, allowed it (or rather, he was pinned by tatara very easily). There was a slow shift in how it went. At first he’s be lucky if Tatara bothered to use lube instead of spit or blood, but he started being better about it, he’d never admit it but he was making it more easy for him, and eventually during one of their violent forplay sessions, Tatara clearly let himself be pinned this time. They switch more often now, but only because Tatara feels more comfortable with him, and knows that Houji knows he only bottoms because he allows it

It turns out, once you pass the point of unspeakable violence and sexual depravity, it gets easily for one to indulge fetishes. They don’t exactly ask about it, they just break them out. Houji didn’t ask Tatara if he’s okay with wearing handcuffs, he just brought quinque steel cuffs from work and shackled him when his guard was down. Tatara did ask Houji if he was okay with being choked, he just started choking him. Their boundaries are fucked

When Houji found out what ghoul heats are, he would not stop pestering Tatara about it. The idea of him weak and helpless and horny is hot, but the knowledge that he is deeply opposed to being seen that way is hotter. It was only after a couple years of their weird hook ups that Tatara allowed it. His heats are bad. Between being a subspecies with weird temperature regulation and a kakuja, his heats are agonizing and he is truly helpless, and to be honest, caving and letting Houji fuck him through it was a low point of desperation. Kousuke had planned to be awful as always, to kick him while he was down and hurt him while he can’t fight back, but when he arrived he found Tatara truly terrified. He’s seen him angry, and he’s seen him regretful, but he hasn’t seen him afraid. But Tatara was weak, he knew he was vulnerable, and he was too overwhelmed to mask that he was afraid of what Kousuke would do to him like this. And just that once, Houji cracked, and was careful with him. He was not nice, that’s different, he was just careful, making sure not to dig his fingers too deep in his kakuhou and not hitting him like he usually would, and that was the first time they didn’t immediately part ways once they were done with each other. Houji stayed with him for the few days he was going through it, he even brought him water and got him into bath and barely mocked him for accepting the help. They didn’t talk about that again, but Tatara started calling him for his heats and the CCG had no reason to be suspicious that Houji called off every six months

They didn’t exactly see each other as people. To tatara, Kousuke is a cog in a machine that must be destroyed. To Kousuke, Tatara is an animal in human skin. It made it easy to hurt each other, or do things in bed with each other, that they wouldn’t want a person to know about. The Moral Implications of having sex with something that isn’t a person aside (something Houji was a little worried about but refused to think about), it made it easier. It’s one thing to admit a horrible dark thing to a person, it’s another to admit a horrible dark thing to an animal that’s going to die soon. So Houji let Tatara know that he enjoyed violent sex to the point of broken bones and internal bleeding and got off on being degraded for his preferences and body, things that he would rather die then let anyone know he was ashamed of. And Tatara let Houji know that he enjoyed fingers in his kakuhou and eye contact during sex, something that to a ghoul as powerful and dangerous as him, is an extremely debasing and vulnerable thing. By now, seeing each other as people is horrifying. Because that means another person knows these things about them, so the obvious solution is to never stop dehumanizing each other

Uhhhhh... none come to mind, actually. I'm pretty flexible (read: I don't care enough), in all honesty. Ships won't ruin my day. Unless there's a take on it that fundamentally misunderstands the appeal, in which it probably will. But not right now.

D: A pairing you wish you liked but just can't.

I guess if I had to pick one, then AriEto? I used to like it in my previous TG era, but have since changed my tune in this current one. Though maybe it's more because I haven't seen the dumpster fire version of the ship besides the ones that I've written (here and here), and they're not even shippy. It's a similar brand of toxic ship to RizeKane, but more based on Arima's aloof and cold demeanor that naturally creates distance versus Rize's fiery shouting that forces distance. Both ways leave Eto and Kaneki hating themselves and feeling more alone.

That said, the ship is still interesting to me, but only from a "they had a really shitty breakup for Eto, but Arima thinks it went well." It's neat in that way.

L: Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)

Houji's defining characteristic being his flaw: he fancies himself the villain in Tatara's story, and wants to finish it once and for all. It's interesting how he just refuses to think that there could be any reconciliation between ghouls and humans (though it is understandable; "eats people" is a pretty high bar to meet).

Tatara's defining characteristic being his flaw: his hyperfixation on killing Houji gets in the way of him forming proper familial bonds, even losing them in certain cases (Ayato and the "stray dogs" metaphor. Tatara doesn't value any life that isn't useful to him specifically, and with Hinami in Cochlea, she has no value. Then again, Hinami is valuable to the next OEK, so Arima would probably try to not kill her...).

CCG headcanon

Marude took a special dislike to Houji when he arrived, he was younger, better looking, very competent, but what killed the old man was when Houji took the post of Akira's "favorite uncle" (This was long before the tragedy with her mother)

Houji always felt that there was a very hostile energy coming from Marude towards him, but everyone said that it was just an impression, since Marude was rude and inconvenient with everyone.

Eventually, Houji did his own line of investigation and discovered the reason, proceeding to treat Akira much better just to tease him.
