yeah, yeah, dutch and hosea forced arthur and john to take the path of gangsterism, thereby dooming them to this end, but did the boys have many options? i mean, i don't think vdm met them in expensive neighborhoods in respectable cities, steal them from rich families, or force them to give up a good life in favor of the lifestyle they had. they were orphans who lost everything, if they had something at all. at best they would have found another gang where they would have been treated much worse, at worst would have died as stray dogs at the hands of the same gang. and it's quite sad to think about it, because sooner or later you come to the conclusion that they were doomed to end up like this from the very beginning.

Thomas going from defending Alastair to his friends and doubling down even when they all obviously disagree with him and wistfully remarking that he "like[s] his nonsense" in 1901 to saying him and Alastair are definitely not friends & that Alastair is objectively awful & debating if he should even speak to him in 1902.... like that has to be one of the most bizarre changes in character that has not and will probably never will be explained or even acknowledged

shakespeare snobs still aren't ready for this conversation but revenge of the sith is the closest western media has to a modern equivalent of a shakespearean tragedy
- entertainment created for mass appeal
- effectively utilizes comic relief despite overall serious tone and/or subject matter
- the audience knows it's a tragedy going in
- utilizes, as shakespeare did, the elements of the greek tragedies which came before him, ie:
- the tragic hero is virtuous but for a fatal flaw
- the audience fears for and roots for the hero despite said flaw and their knowledge that the story is a tragedy
- in his attempts to escape his destiny, the hero unknowingly runs toward it, even brings it about himself
- it's entertainment for the masses even though the masses know it's a tragedy before it even starts

Just relistened to Jacobi's speech about progress and again contemplating my headcanon that Goddard near singlehandedly pulled the Wolf 359 universe off a climate cliff a few decades earlier than we're hitting ours and that's why so many self-described idealists (especially older members of the cast) are willing to work with them and delude themselves about the collateral damage.

I do appreciate that Matthew automatically likened his withdrawal headaches to a gnome being in his head. He could have picked anything and immediately went "this feels like gnome brain." This, along with the fact that he automatically subsequently named the gnome Snorgoth the Skullcrusher, is simply more evidence that he is me in a different font

GUYS I WENT AND SAW FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S YESTERDAY FOR HALLOWEEN AND I’M OBSESSED! I had high expectations and they were exceeded greatly! There were scenes I didn’t know they would include in the film, small easter eggs and references to the games and lore, cameos, AND THE END CREDITS AAAAA!!! It just fulfilled every need of mine and as someone who’s been a fan of the games for nine years, it was so amazing to see this iconic game get turned into a movie. The casting was really good too!! It was surreal to see two actors I’ve been watching since I was a kid play in this film. It genuinely felt like a fever dream. I couldn’t believe I watched the movie. It was SO good my sister and I actually watched it a second time when we got home lol
there’s a spoiler in the tags btw
