What are the MOST random headcanons you have for Itachi, Neji and Sasuke?

CHARACTERS: Itachi Uchiha, Neji Hyuga, Sasuke Uchiha

ITACHI UCHIHA

When he finally manages to get glasses he is notorious for forgetting to wear them at first.

He had grown so accustomed to not wearing them and squinting at everthing he forgets he doesn't need to anymore lol.

Is that person who drinks water over other beverages.

Enjoys reading for long periods of time. Like could just spend the whole day reading away. Is the type to read books in one sitting, taking breaks to make tea and snack only.

Enjoys having company while reading though.

A nice cuddle. A thigh touching or even just one of you splayed over the other. The warmth and touch is nice.

Secretly likes being fussed over by a s/o since he spends a lot of time fussing over his loved ones.

NEJI HYUGA

Gets a bit stressed when things aren't done a certain way but he's grown up in an evironment where he's learnt he needs to internalise everything.

Voicing his opinions even when they come across kind of harsh actually mean Neji is comfortable enough to voice his concerns with you.

Even if it is 'How can you just leave all of your dirty laundry on the floor?' completely exasperated. He's not trying to judge you or be rude he's just- he can't leave it like this.

He can't have things out of place, they have to go where they belong which is the laundry basket.

His ears a sensitive. Not necessarily in a sexual way (it can be though) even brushing a finger against them and he flinches and shivers.

If you whisper into his ear or kiss it and you two are intimate and you're getting a shiver and blush from him immediately. Maybe a gasp too.

SASUKE UCHIHA

Naturally runs cold—I'm talking his hands, his feet, all naturally are colder to the touch.

This only changes when he actively infuses chakra and perfroms jutsu which warms him some. It's very interesting notice when you touch his hands those different times.

It's likely you run warmer (even if you run cold too. He's real cold).

He seeks out physical touch. Boys touch starved. But won't ask for it. Doesn't know how to unless there's been years of patience, teaching and allowing him to go at his own pace.

Likes to sit up high in trees on the branches. One rare occassions he'll let his legs dangle over the edge because it reminds him of being a kid again. Won't tell anyone that though.

Tried using styling products in his hair once (ones with a wax consistancy) but he hated how it felt in his hands. His face cringed so hard that by the time he smeared it through his hair and tried to do something with it he had given up completely. BIG POUTY FACE IN THE MIRROR.

Secretly likes having his cheeks squished and kissed by you if you're intimate but in private, not in public.

I have a request, Neji Hyuga and the reader go on a mission together and the reader wears a blindfold just like Gojo but then when she fights her enemy's she takes the blindfold off and she tells him that her eyes would get tired if she doesn't cover them up and all that. Also Neji always trys to think that he doesn't like her and that he's just absorbing her strength (boy lying to himself🥱)

you were weird.

You were weird in the eyes of Neji Hyuga.

Not even he being a genius could understand you.

Why were you wearing a blindfold? Were you blind? It was the first thing he wondered when he saw you.

He still remembers when he saw you for the first time, since you were the first thing that caught his eye next to the Uchiha in the chunin exams. But unlike the arrogant Uchiha boy, you were different and for some reason he couldn't get close to you.

'Ridiculous' he thought at the thought of being nervous in front of you, perhaps it was the uncertainty of knowing who you were and what you could do. Neji also didn't know why he cared for you when they had to enter the forest of death, he would later realize that even though he tried to stay away from people and tried to justify all his bad behavior by 'fate', he by default was still a child and he was worried about someone, Someone who might be disabled.

'Why were you a ninja if you can't see?'

Neji also didn't know how to react when he saw you again when he and his team passed the forest of death, he didn't know why he was relieved to see you alive. But he knew that you were strong and not weak as he supposed before, you knew how to fend for yourself. He knew it when you fought your opponent in those Preliminary Trials.

You had highly developed senses, you defeated your opponent quickly and effectively. After a few months you had become a chunnin together with that ponytailed boy after passing the third test.

Neji didn't see you again until a few years later.

It had been a few weeks since he had become a Jonin, neji was going to a training camp to further improve his combat skills, when he got to the field that's when he saw you, you hadn't changed much you were still wearing that bandage for the Eyes, you weren't throwing kunais or doing katas, you were leaning against a tree… you were meditating or at least that's what he thought, since you had that blindfold on your eyes. Before he got up the courage and had a chance to ask you what you were doing you rushed ahead.

"You know, it's rude to stare at people" your voice was soft and calm, perhaps because it wasn't ruined by the exhaustion of rigorous training.

Neji snorted "I wasn't looking at you" was what he was able to reply embarrassed for being caught while he started training.

After that meeting, you guys met again and again in that same training field, you would just hang out, you would stay in that same log while he trained, you would casually ask a few questions from time to time. Sometimes Neji would offer you to join his training, but you would always refuse, arguing that you had already trained earlier in the day.

Neji wasn't even bothered by your presence, something felt good when you were around him, as if it was meant to be from the beginning, but he would deny himself at the thought of being in love with you. That's how you two continued until it became so common to spend your time together that you started going out to other places. Sometimes you would go out to eat, other times just to walk and enjoy the sunset together.

He remembers wanting to guide you the first time they walked together, Neji was afraid that you would fall or bump into someone and get hurt, but you denied his help arguing that he shouldn't worry. 'Stubborn' was what he thought, but instead of giving his opinion he trusted you, it turns out that you were good at guiding yourself, even if you couldn't see anything, Neji began to respect you more after that day.

Today In the present Tsunade-sama had put you on a mission together, the mission was easy, you just had to deliver some important papers to the Daimyo of another village, but things stopped being so easy when you were ambushed by enemy ninjas.

The fight had been hard, since some of them had forbidden Jutsus and from what he could see with his Byakugan you were forced to take off your blindfold. You were faster and more agile than you were before, since now you could see where you were going, but if you could see why cover your eyes?

It was the second thing he asked you after first asking if you were okay and then reaching a safe place to rest after defeating the enemy ninjas.

“My eyes are sensitive, I covered them because they get tired quickly if I don't keep them covered”

"Have you ever seen a doctor?"

“Many times, but no one had a solid answer as to why this was happening to me…”

"I understand, in any case I will make sure to protect you"

"…Thank you Neji."

It was a promise, one of many more to come when he had the courage to confess his newfound love for you.

*Neji loves you for who you are.

*when you are already a couple, he will read you your favorite books at night, even if it is a genre that he does not like.

*he is very protective of you, always fearing that something bad will happen to you. You are very important to him but shhhh it's a secret

* when you walk through a crowd he will grab your hand, even if you are not a couple yet, he will always turn red and nervous, but it is a sacrifice he is willing to make if it is for your safety.

Naruto Worldbuilding Headcanon!

Sort of.

Buffing the Byakugan!

The Byakugan was written as an antithesis to the Sharingan but got mostly forgotten. I’m here to change that.

Well all know that with the Byakugan you can see the chakra points and have x-ray vision + almost 360 degree vision. Additional powers include:

Microscopic vision: Byakugan users can look at blood samples and whole bodies up to a cellular level. Their eyes are basically a substitute for a microscope, x-ray scans, ct-scans and mris. That part where Sasuke could see Deidara‘s cellular bombs with his Sharingan? We’re scrapping that. Only Byakugan users can do that.

Immunity to most visual genjutsus. Byakugan users can see when someone is using or under genjutsu and have a natural immunity against most Sharingan genjutsus, with only things like Tsukuyomi or other powerful Mangekyou genjutsus posing as an actual threat.

Splitting anything chakra made in half. We’ve seen my man Mukai Kohinata doing this to Itachi’s fire ball jutsu and in Neji’s fight against Kidomaru. Using their gentle fist, anything that is made of chakra can be split in half or atleast damaged. This includes Susanoos. Also, Byakugan users can disable the necessary chakra points of an Uchiha to activate the susanoo.

Detecting shifts in mood. There are changes in your chakra when your mood changes, it’s canon. Byakugan users can see when someone is angry, scared, happy, horny, you name it. They can also tell when someone is lying. If someone is trying to suppress their chakra, they can see it too.

Releasing chakra from all their tenketsu. Neji has done it in the fight against kidomaru. Basically it means they can release normal or elemental chakra out of their chakra points, which makes taijutsu pretty useless against them. Ex. when a Byakugan user releases fire chakra while someone is trying to punch them, they’d burn their hands. Medic nin who have a Byakugan can use this tactic to release healing chakra on their whole body, allowing them to heal themselves without using hand signs or the palm technique, if their chakra control allows it. A Byakugan user can also release tiny portions of chakra on their elbows or legs to make their punches stronger or highten their jumps.

There’s no next level Byakugan like the Mangekyou is for the Sharingan, however Byakugan users suffer no permanent damage from overusing their Byakugan. They temporarily have bad eyesight or even blindness, but it passes.

Naruto Love Languages (Konoha 12 + Sand Siblings)

Naruto Uzumaki - Words of Affirmation

This man is your #1 fan. Everything you do he is behind you cheering and hollering the whole way. It doesn't matter if it's something stupid like trying to do a bottle flip, Naruto is gonna hype you up. He just adores you so much and wants you to know that! He wants you to know that he believes in you fully. When he isn't being a hype man, Naruto is just genuinely complimenting you and showing his appreciation for all you do. Nothing you do will go unnoticed, you WILL feel this man's love

Sasuke Uchiha - Gift Giving

Sasuke is, uh... kinda rough when it comes to romance. He's gone through some shit and even after all these years doesn't quite know how to deal with it. He isn't good at words, is wary on physical contact, and isn't around often. But the one thing he succeeds in is giving you gifts. Everytime he leaves to go who knows where, he will always return with an incredibly thoughtful gift. Sasuke doesn't just grab whatever he see, he knows what you like and what you appreciate. Every gift he gives you has meaning and fits you perfectly

Sakura Haruno - Acts of Service

Sakura is a girl who heavily desires to be loved. Ever since she was a child she was a hopeless romantic, so when she finally got together with you she fell head over heels. She's quite open with her feelings for you both physically and vocally, but her favorite way to show she cares is by helping you around the house. She'll cook for you, help clean up, give you massages, and of course heal your wounds. As long as you are dating her you will never see another Medical-nin. Every injury you get will be treated by her with full seriousness (even if it's just a paper cut)

Sai - Gift Giving

You though SASUKE was bad with feelings? Dear lord you gotta have a lot of patience with Sai. Unlike Sasuke though, Sai tries his hardest, even if it's a bit rough. He tries to say nice things and touch you, but it's still incredibly foreign to him (not to mention he can get a bit brutally honest about some things). The only thing Sai is confident in is his gift giving skills. He loves to draw art for you, pretty much everything he sees inspires more art to give you. It's gotten to the point that you have a whole room filled with them (Sai keeps telling you it's okay to get rid of some, but you refuse! They are so pretty!). On special occassions, Sai loves to bring his drawings for you to life, enjoying the look of amazement on your face

Ino Yamanaka - Gift Giving

This girl is gonna treat you RIGHT, believe that! She's is incredibly open with her feelings, especially when it comes to flowers. You will be getting flowers for every occassion, sometimes just randomly. She'll buy you other gifts like jewelry and clothes and books, but her real love language is flowers. Her bouquets aren't just randomly put together either, Ino carefully hand picks each one and take in mind the meaning of each one. The longer you date you will soon learn the different meanings, which makes her so proud. Although she doesn't really expect anything back every time, make sure to get her a lil something for special occassions, she'll appreciate it~

Shikamaru Nara - Quality Time

We know Shikamaru is a lazy bitch, but that's what we love about him! He may seem distant and seemingly uncaring, but if you look closely you can clearly see how he shows affection. Sure he may not wash you with praises or get you expensive things, but he stays by your side. Always. Somehow he always is in the same room as you, even if you are doing two different things. You're always together in some sort. He'll definitely deny it, but you notice he doesn't leave still. It's kind of like a cat, ya know? Shikamaru gets especially clingy when you're in bed together. This man doesn't get up for hours, and you aren't getting up either. You will lay and sleep with him for 3 more hours, no discussion

Choji Akimichi - Acts of Service

Just... just so sweet. My boy is such a sweetie oh my god. Choji is quite nervous in your relationship, both due to low self-esteem and just anxiety in general. Just you surprising him with a hug is enough to fluster him for a solid minute. Since more direct ways get him anxious, Choji prefers to do things for you, and his favorite thing is to cook for you. This man can COOK like no one's business! You guys will go out to eat on the weekends (there is nothing like fresh barbecue), but through the week he is in the kitchen cooking your favorite meals full of love. Seeing your giant smile and hearing your satisifed eating makes his heart soar. Also, you are one of the only people who he'll always share his snacks with, no hesitation (the other is Shikamaru, obviously)

Kiba Inuzuka - Physical Touch

Kiba is a toucher, hands down. He LOVES to just touch you all over. He is always in contact with you no matter what, appropriate or otherwise. Hands on your waist, head on your shoulder, fingers in your hair, sometimes he will just randomly pick you up to get a reaction out of you. Let's be real, Kiba's a dog through and through, and dogs adore attention. Whenever he wants your attention or love, Kiba will poke you and bug you until you give in and cuddle with him. Spooning is his absolute favorite position. Give this man his head pats and belly rubs god dammit, and don't forget Akamaru!. Oh and uh, warning, this man is also perverted. Quite perverted. Your cuddle sessions will devolve into him dry humping you 50% of the time. You gonna get manhandled and groped quite a bit (every touch full of love <3)

Hinata Hyuga - Words of Affirmation

You thought Choji was shy? You haven't seen nothing yet. Hinata was already a sweating mess when you were just friends, the moment you asked her out she literally fainted and collapsed on the floor. Thankfully she is better now (and didn't get brain damage), but it's still nerve-wracking to be in a relationship with you. You're just so... perfect. And Hinata wants you to know that. Throughout the day she is normally very sweet and appreciative, but whenever you are on dates or cuddling in private, she lets all her feelings out. She shares her admiration for you, her appreciation for you, and just how happy she is to have you in her life. It always makes you cry, which makes Hinata feel bad, but you always assure her they are happy tears

Shino Aburame - Acts of Service

Shino is a man of little words, and you knew that going into a relationship, so you have no issues with that! It makes the times he does speak up mean even more. Since he's inexperienced with relationships and romantic gestures, Shino's main way to show he cares is by protecting you and keeping you safe. He always is ready to defend you in public, and whenever you go somewhere alone he gives you one of his bugs so he can know you're safe. Anyone who even tries to harass or injure you is getting shot down immedietely. Losing you or you getting hurt is one of his biggest fears, and he'll never let that happen. You'll never feel unsafe when Shino is around

Rock Lee - All of Them

You can call this a cop out, but let's be real, Lee is the embodiment of EVERY love language. He never stops gushing to you about your beauty and skills, and screams how much he loves you from the rooftops. Anything you ask him to do will be done in record time perfectly. He loves to give you extravagent gifts for your anniversaries and random occasions. Spending time with you is his favorite thing in the world, especially when you train together. And physical touch? He is always happy to hug and kiss you all over. Lee is just full of love for you!! He knows he can be a bit overwhelming at times and will calm down if you tell him. He just is so grateful to have you in his life, and wants you to know that every day for the rest of your life

Neji Hyuga - Words of Affirmation

It may come as a shock to most due to his sharp tongue, but the way Neji shows his love is by words. To most he is aggressive and stand-offish, and ocassionally is to you too. It's just how he is unfortunately. But unlike with others, he is noticabely incredibly soft with you and is much more open. Neji isn't afraid to compliment how you look or give praise when you succeed at something. Even when he gets annoyed he doesn't raise his voice or throw insults at you, he stays respectful. The fact that he calls everyone an idiot except you says a whoooole lot about how he feels about you. Wear that honor with pride

Tenten - Quality Time

Tenten is pretty easy going and prefers a partner who is the same. Of course some spice and excitement is greatly welcomed, but at the end of the day she just wants to sit back and relax with her partner. So spending time together means a lot to her. She loves going on dates where you guys try something new (just no long hikes, please) but if needed will default to the local weapon museum. By the way, everytime one of you has to go on a mission, Tenten will act cool but will secretly pout the whole time until you meet up again

Gaara - Physical Touch

As he's grown, Gaara has turned into a real sweetheart. With you he is incredibly gentle and cares for you deeply. You are his treasure, you deserve the world. He still is dealing with social anxiety, and can be a bit awkward sometimes. But Gaara is always comfortable touching and holding you. His touches are gentle and kind, and sensual when he wants. He likes to give gentle kisses all over you throughout the day, and whenever he leaves for work he gives you a loving kiss before he leaves. Gaara also really values cuddling together. This man is touch starved like no one else, everytime you hold eachother he feels like a part of him is healing. Please reciprocate, he deserves it

Temari - Words of Affirmation

Temari is fiery as hell, and you knew that the moment you met. And her words are just as sharp! She isn't afraid to tell off people who annoy you guys (especially when you are on dates, they are DEAD). With you she is still mildly aggressive and intense, but in a more lighthearted way. She just gets so worried about you, she can't help herself from scolding you for being an idiot. Every word she says (positive or negative) comes from the heart. When you manage to not be a fool Temari is vocalising her approval and pride. Oh, and she has a habit of openly bragging about how amazing you are to your peers (much to your embarrassment)

Kankuro - Quality Time

This man is a teeeeeease (in a good way or bad way, your decision). He is constantly joking and making fun of you, reveling in your cute annoyance. He even likes to annoy you physically like blowing on your neck or pinching your butt. Kankuro is quite playful pretty much 95% of the time, but the other 5% he's actually quite sweet. Spending time with you is his favorite thing in the world! Yeah it's fun messing with you, but he likes to just have genuine connections and going on more mature dates. His favorite thing is dancing surprisingly, and he honestly is quite good. Holding you close and swaying makes him content ... Until he sneaks in one of his puppets halfway through, scaring the shit out of you in the process (he slept on the couch but it was worth it)

For whichever Naruto characters you'll get inspiration for: how do they think they would do babysitting vs how they actually do. Who'd be overconfident and fail miserably? Who would avoid it at all cost but turn out amazing? Who is bad with kids and knows it? Who'd be a supernanny?

CHARACTERS: Neji Hyuga, Shisui Uchiha, Shikamaru Nara, Madara Uchiha, Tobirama Senju

NEJI HYUGA: Okay so genin Neji would not be thrilled at the prospect of babysitting. He'd also be a little cocky thinking he'd have no problem wrangling a bunch of kids. He underestimates these trouble makers however and has a woeful time dealing with their "backtalking" and "incessant questioning of authority." That's him— he's the authority. Neji sweetie they're kids. Won't lose them though with his Byakugan and kind of scares them into behaving with his demeanour.

Teen/Adult (Jonin) Neji now is a lot more mellow and less harsh. He's going to be a lot softer and understanding. Is actually less confident with the task but does a lot better. Bends down to the kids level to talk to them. Treats them the same way he does adults in the way he talks to them but his tone his gentler. Is patient with their questions. Reads to them. Teaches them life lessons.

Don't tell anyone but he gives them piggybacks.

SHISUI UCHIHA: The best damn babysitter you could ask for and he knows it too. If you tell him though he'll get all bashful about it. He's so good with kids! Talks and plays with them like he is one. Being around kids helps him reset and forget his troubles. He can't help but want to protect them and their childhoods. Because of this just wants to show them the best time.

Kind of sneaky about the games he teaches. The games teach them strategy and how to think on their feet. Real world shinobi skills to help them learn how to hide and escape if they ever need it. Shisui also picks the littler kids up and zooms them around. Piggyback rides and races. Rolling down hills. Lots of laughter and fun.

Always letting the kids win and encouraging them when he can.

SHIKAMARU NARA: Doesn't matter when this is Shikamaru's always going to think it's going to be a drag babysitting. He's going to look for the easiest way to mind these kids. Think smarter not harder is his motto. Doesn't think he'll do a terrible job nor exceed expectations. He's there to tick a box. What he doesn't expect is to be kept amused by the kids. Having back and forth banter. The kids telling him "jokes" and stories.

Ha. So maybe babysitting isn't so bad. The kind of babysitter who is like 'Alright, I'll give you some treats if you don't tell your parents.' Totally has a secret pact with the kids. Teaches them all sorts of cool things. As long as they don't have to go anywhere or do anything too annoying.

The kind of babysitter the kids think are cool.

MADARA UCHIHA: Do not let this man babysit your kids. He's a terrible influence (affectionate). I don't mean big bad Madara either I just mean regular gremlin Madara. He's going to have your kids running wild and promoting their chaos. He has a complex where he both thinks he's the best babysitter in the world and thinks he's also going to fail big time.

Okay in all seriousness though he's good for kids who have a lot of energy and need to run around. He'll match their energy and do what they need to do to get all of that out. Won't bring any negativity to the table either. Just encourages them to go go go. And is behind them the entire time. Doesn't care about the mess either. Those kids want to roll around in mud? Alright mud fight it is. It's war baby. Takes those wargames very seriously. The kids call him sir and everything lol.

He encourages chaos in order to keep that watchful eye on them. He actually does an alright job.

TOBIRAMA SENJU: Great teacher. Terrible babysitter. Terrible with teensy children. Good with school level children in a teaching environment. But he just can't babysit. He's so bad with children that aren't his own or his students. He's just so awkward. You know how people hold toddlers like they're wild creatures with their arms completely stretched out in front of them? That's him holding them.

Everything becomes lectures when he talks to them and he's so theoretical and awkward at connecting and knows it. He honestly chooses to just not babysit.

I want to point out though he is really good at teaching children when they're his students. When they're old enough to somewhat take care of themselves and he just has to teach them the rest and theres time to make a connection—he can't explain it—it's just different. Like tweens he's good with tweens. Genuinely enjoys seeing the next generations flourish he just doesn't have those babysitting skills.

How Genin Naruto, Sasuke, Neji, Hinata, Sakura, Rock Lee react to going on a go mission in a long time and when they return the reader is waiting for them at the gate and is so happy that they are back that he hugs them and ends up knocking them down and doesn't let go of them for a while and stays with them all day. (The reader and they are in love with each other)

author's note: First post in a long time! I took a little bit of a liberty with some of the characters, but the general idea is there for all of them. It was a while since I got this request and I was working off of the material I had written in my Google Drive (and the majority of this request was written two months ago), so if you would like me to rewrite some of the entries please let me know. I can do that. For now, though, I hope you all enjoy!

Uzumaki Naruto

When returning from a week away, Naruto is dorking out to Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi about how he totally helped out when the enemy was attacking the three of them. Sakura gets in a word about how he was tussling with cats, not enemy shinobi, before you leapt off a roof onto Naruto’s back.

The unexpected piggyback ride leaves him stumbling and bristling, screaming, “WHO IS THAT?!” In response, you lock your legs around his torso and grip his shoulders through the flailing, giggling like a maniac. When he hears your laugh, Naruto whips his head up to get a glimpse of you and… well… this has the result you’d think it would.

The back of his head slams into your nose and you release your grip, the two of you now nursing matching wounds as the rest of Team 7 stands off to the side watching the show with deadpan expressions.

“What was that for, Uzumaki? I was just trying to say hi!” you would quip, pointing a finger from your free hand at him, your other pressing into your face to quell the pain.

“It’s not MY fault that I was ambushed!” he would yell, pointing back at you. At this point, you two were attracting the attention of the civilians and Team 7 needed to drag you two away forcefully.

After the two of you calmed down, you ended up apologizing for scaring Naruto with your silly prank. He laughs it off and accepts, saying it was an accident and that it was pretty funny and harmless in the end. He even offers you another piggyback ride around the village, this time without the headbutting, which causes your heart to beat a little faster as you accept.

Uchiha Sasuke

As usual after returning to Konoha with Team 7, the only people to greet them at the gate were Sakura’s parents. Naruto darted off to… wherever the hell he goes to cause mayhem, while Kakashi simply vanished into the air, leaving Sasuke to make his way home alone. To the empty Uchiha compound. He always took the long way.

However, this particular day, it seemed that he had a shadow — you. Sasuke knew you’d been following him since about halfway through his walk home, when he spotted your ninja garb through the crowds swiftly taking cover in an alleyway. Half of him was always irked by your insistence that you spend time with him. Didn’t you have anything else better to do? But the shameless part of him, the one that yearned for a friend, was thankful that you took the time out of your day to be with him despite his prickly and cold attitude. Besides Team 7, you were the only one that ever kept trying; only you could possibly understand the motives behind that decision. Does he feel guilty about it? Yes, damn it, he does. He should be focused on his goals, not whatever the hell this is. Something in him is healing, though. And tells him to let you in. Just a little bit.

On the threshold of the compound, you stepped from Sasuke’s peripheral and appeared with a bag of treats. “Hey, Sasuke!” you greeted with a wide smile. “I saw you got back while I was out in the markets,” You noted the scrapes and bruises over his body, as well as the state of his clothing and his sour expression. “Rough mission?”

He would respond with an affirmative noise, taking the bag from your hands and leading the way to his house. There, you would chew his ear off with stories about your training and small missions while he sat in silence, sharpening his dull kunai and shuriken from the mission. The rest of the compound may have been haunted by the ghosts of the massacre, but right now, something in Sasuke felt a little bit at ease in that household for the first time in years as you and him munched on junk food together.

Hyuga Neji

The second that you get word that Team Guy is expected to return from their long-term mission, you plant yourself at the gates to welcome them back. They must be far away, however, since you’ve been lounging with the guards for way too long, playing cards and gossiping about practically every other shinobi in the village.

In the blink of an eye, one after another, two flashes of green speed through the gates, leaving clouds of dust billowing. The draft from, assumedly, Lee and Guy’s movements, sent the cards from your game of blackjack spiraling into the air. The chunin assigned guard began lunging for everyone’s cards to get an upper hand, leaving you to struggle for just your own. You had a damn good hand, too! At least you thought? Of course this would happen…

Tenten shot by soon after, begging for her sensei and team mate to “please stop this nonsense”. It barely occurred to you, though, that the one person you were looking for was still missing as you lunged and grabbed for your cards. Your vision had tunneled up with your head, your gaze flickering to the… Huh? Where your cards were once fluttering in the air is now only blue sky.

“Hey!” you shouted, whipping your head down and around. “Which one of you took my cards? Picking on the genin, are you? How—”

“I have them right here,” a voice snarked from your left, putting five fanned-out cards right over your field of vision. “You should probably fold soon. You’ve only got seven out of twenty-one. Unless you’re the one that bet that entire pile of chocolate.”

“Neji! You’re back too!” You snatched the cards from his outstretched hand and turned to the regrouped chunin, throwing your cards down on the dirt face-up. “I fold.” In one fluid motion, you turned and took Neji’s wrapped forearm in your hand, taking him into the streets of Konoha. He opened his mouth to complain, but not before you shut him right up with a wide smirk, telling him this is exactly what he advised.

Hyuga Hinata

Daring not to sprint with the delicate pastries in your grasp, you walked hastily towards the main entrance of Konoha. Team Eight was supposed to already be there. Have you missed them? Maybe Kiba held them up somewhere along the way following some random animal’s poop scent for a prank. That situation would certainly not be ideal, but at least you would be able to see Hinata the second she got back to the village.

Unfortunately, you seemed to be a little late as you caught her in the shadow of the shopping crowds. You approached in her direct view and waved to make sure she wasn’t shocked too much. But you still enjoyed the slight flush of her cheeks and little smile that you could only catch if you were truly paying attention to her.

“Hinata!” you called, handing the box to her as she whispered a greeting in return. “I got you these pastries! I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go find somewhere around to hang out and eat them with me?”

“Oh!” She reached out and snatched the offering with a swiftness you didn’t know she possessed. Still holding it out, Hinata bowed to you with a small “thank you!” coming out before she panicked and took off with an air of sorrow. What you didn’t see was her blush shoot up to her ears and down her neck.

“Ah! No, I wanted to share them!” you sighed with a laugh, beginning the chase. I wanted to spend time with you! Hinata does, too. She just needs a minute to get that darn blush off of her face! Though, when you do catch up with her and sit down, you note that her ears stayed red the rest of the day.

Haruno Sakura

Sakura really wasn’t sure what the heck all of the petals were for. She was initially shocked senseless when her parents weren’t there to greet Team Seven. Everyone milled by like they didn’t exist. Naruto wanted to drag everyone to Ichiraku’s, but being tired of his nonsense after the past week, Sakura allowed her attention and stride to wander away from the group after giving a half-hearted farewell. When she rounded a corner, a cherry blossom petal in the breeze caught her attention.

She thought it wasn’t even cherry blossom season. Was this a genjutsu? Or maybe they were fake. Determined now to find out, Sakura began to follow upwind, the direction from which the petals came from. The further she worked into the forest, the more she was convinced it was a genjutsu — she could smell the cherry blossom. Her hand twitched over her kunai strap as she worked her chakra network overtime to disrupt the illusion.

Awaiting at the destination was what seemed to be a massive pool of the pink petals. If Sakura wasn’t convinced this was some sort of trap, she would be in awe of the beauty surrounding her. A completely normal summer forest with a pocket of spring right here.

“You won’t find any disruptions in your network because there’s no genjutsu.” You rounded a tree trunk, a picnic basket in hand. “I just wanted to get you away from your team for the rest of the day. You’ve probably had more than enough of them.”

“Oh my gosh. Oh my GOSH. You are the best!” Sakura squealed, jumping down from the trees, hugging and twirling you.

You invite her to sit on the blanket of petals you set up, preserves you managed to purchase with your savings from Ino’s family’s store. (Of course, you’d never tell her that.) It seems like you’re able to guess all of her favorite foods and drinks as you whip them out of the basket comedically, pretending to summon everything like a magician.

Until sundown, the two of you are able to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the quiet ambiance of the surrounding forests of Konoha, the only noises being your uproarious laughter and soft gossip breaking just over the static of the leaves in the wind.

Rock Lee

(The same beginning situation as Neji’s, so if it’s familiar, that’s why!)

In the blink of an eye, one after another, two flashes of green speed through the gates, leaving clouds of dust billowing. You take off after them across the rooftops without thinking, wanting to greet Lee. Vaguely behind you, you can hear Neji and Tenten yelling at them to stop, that their race was supposed to be over at the gate. It took a good few moments before they actually were able to pump the brakes and de-accelerate, kicking up the dirt road.

You, however, purposefully ram yourself into Lee’s back from above like a hawk, giving him a hug that almost puts him out on the ground. “Welcome back! I missed you,” you yell, interrupting his argument with Guy-sensei on who stepped over the threshold first. He greets you warmly after recovering from the shock, returning your hug with just as much vigor. “I am sorry for leaving for so long, but we are back!”

“Ah, how wonderful youth is!” You forgot that Guy-sensei was right there, so you withdrew, a bit bashful. “Let me ask you, young (Y/N), who did you see enter the village first? You were there, right?”

You confess that in all honesty, you were not focused on that at all, just the fact that your friends were all back. At this point, Tenten and Neji catch up, ready to give the lecture of a life. Which is why you’re not surprised at all when your ride spins around and takes off to avoid the scolding, laughing and trying to figure out where the two of you want to lead them for a post-mission meal.

thank you for feeding my Naruto brainrot 😫🫶🏻 for the prompt request: for your fav Naruto boys or girls, what are the non-negotiables (things they need to have) and the dealbreakers (will not tolerate) when they're in a relationship with their partner?

author's note: this has been sitting in my drafts for a while, so I'm really sorry for the delay. I really liked that prompt and I do hope I did it justice. I have so many favs it was hard to pick, but ultimately I decided to pick Naruto, Neji, Sasuke and Shikamaru.

Naruto

➦ Non-negotiables

Calm and rational mind - as someone who is a ball full of energy and very easily influenced by his emotions, Naruto needs a partner who is stable and able to keep calm and collected under pressure. He has enough fire and passion within him for both him and his partner, so he would need a polar opposite in order to keep him balanced. He also lacks the ability to look at situations realistically, so a more rational partner would definitely help him do that.

Affectionate - this doesn't mean he wants someone who is clinging to his arm 24/7, but rather someone who is not afraid to show affection to him either in public or private. A partner that laces their fingers with his when they notice his knee shaking nervously or embraces them in a hug after a long stressful day, is what Naruto needs after being alone for so many years.

➦ Dealbreakers

Lack of ambitions or drive - Naruto has always been full of dreams and hope. He constantly seeks to grow, not only in his power but also as a person. If he is with a partner who lacks any ambition in life, he is bound to feel stagnate at some point and that is probably his biggest nightmare. He needs someone to calm and balance his hyperactive personality, but he won't be with someone who makes his whole life dull.

No sense of humour - this may not be a dealbreaker for many people, but for Naruto it certainly is. He has always been a goofball and loves a good joke, so I can't even imagine him being with someone, who won't at least crack a smile at his attempts to cheer them up. He doesn't want to be with someone who is overly pessimistic and negative.

Neji

➦ Non-negotiables

A strong moral compass - probably the least tolerant and forgiving of all of the guys on the list, Neji needs a partner that has strong morals and values. There are certain things that are completely unjustifiable in his eyes, like betraying the people you love or killing innocent people. No matter their background or religious/political view, their partner needs to have strong principles that they follow, regardless of external pressure. For him, this is also fundamental for raising your children right.

Commitment - Neji's ideal partner would need to be someone who will commit fully to him and their family (once they have one). I always imagined him with a civilian or someone who is an ex-ninja, because he knows it is not possible to juggle both an active ninja lifestyle and taking care of the house. Even he, at some point, would start doing fewer and fewer missions, spending time and training his children instead. He would absolutely expect the same from their partner.

➦ Dealbreakers

Not wanting family/children - Neji is a very traditional guy and as such, he does want to one day have a family and be a father. He would respect his partner's decision if they decide this is not the life for them, but that would ultimately lead to the end of their relationship. This is one thing he would not change his mind about, so he has to be with someone who is on the same page.

Lack of respect - in a way connected to the dealbreaker above, he won't be with someone who doesn't respect him, his family, or his values. Due to the way he was raised, he would naturally assume the role of provider and protector - his partner better be the more submissive half, the one who nurtures, rather than fights. If they cannot respect that dynamic, they better find a more open-minded partner than Neji.

Sasuke

➦ Non-negotiables

Confidence and courage - having quite a lot of issues himself, he needs a partner who has the confidence and the courage to stand up to him. Sasuke has the tendency to do whatever he thinks is right, without really taking into consideration how that affects others. He really needs someone who will be honest about their feelings and opinions, without fearing that they will somehow offend him. He will probably huff and puff, but he secretly appreciates it when their partner has the guts to put their foot down.

Bluntness - maybe connected in a way to what I typed above, but Sasuke needs someone who speaks bluntly to him. He is also the type of person to share his thoughts openly, so he expects the same from his partner. Additionally, he is not good at getting hints, so it's better for his lover to just say straightforwardly what is bothering them, rather than tip-toe around it.

➦ Dealbreakers

Lying - Sasuke cannot tolerate liars. He has been lied to quite a lot during his life and he suffers from major trust issues. If he catches his partner even in a lie, even about something insignificant, that would be the end of the relationship. If they lie about small, they will inevitably lie about something bigger as well. Sasuke had enough with people like that.

Clinginess - that man had enough of people clinging to him. Sasuke values his personal space and alone time and he won't like a partner, that is constantly on his back and wants to spend all their time together. Like everyone, he would need some moments of loving and he would subtly hint at their partner when they need attention/love, but he would somehow have to initiate it first.

Shikamaru

➦ Non-negotiables

Empathy - an ideal partner would be able to see other people's sides, and consider their feelings and motives. Shikamaru prides himself on being open-minded and good at reading people, so he expects his partner to be the same. He forgot a date or something minor because of how stressed he is at work? He wants his partner to be able to put themselves in his shoes and maybe cut him a little bit of slack.

Likes challenges/puzzles - as someone who is so smart, Shikamaru needs intellectual challenges to keep boredom away and also stimulate his brain. His partner either has to be brave enough to challenge him on topics they do not agree on or actively seek and help him with puzzling tasks, that he can't deal alone with. Either way, their partner has to be able to think outside the box and be able to counter Shikamaru's arguments.

➦ Dealbreakers

Anger issues - now I know that may be controversial, since in the anime he is with Temari, who can be pretty fiery... but personally I feel he is not the one to really tolerate someone who gets worked up easily, shouts, and throws tantrums. Life is too short to deal with someone who can't control their temper and he constantly feels like he has to walk on eggshells around them.

Pretending to be dumb - Shikamaru is naturally attracted to intelligence. Does it feel nice to be outsmarted or corrected by their own partner sometimes? Well, no, not really. But he definitely prefers that, rather than having a partner that pretends to be dumb, just so they can appear cute or for other people to like them better.

neji hyūga x reader

summary: neji is sure that his relationship with you as his roommate is perfectly defined. however, in one evening it turns out that he would love to be a cup of your chamomile tea.

neji likes his morning routine. he really enjoys the refreshing feeling of waking up early, knowing how easy, natural even, it comes to him. the touch of cold water splashing against his skin and refreshing him perfectly. he truly appreciates the opportunity to prepare a breakfast and consume it in peaceful silence, interrupted only by the chirping of birds. taking a sip by sip of his favorite black coffee without any sugar or milk in it — he likes it bitter, like it naturally is. consuming omelets, miso soup or whatever he likes to serve himself in the morning of a particular day the most. even though he wasn’t the biggest fan of blinding sunlight and even more of ongoing summer, he enjoyed slight rays of sunshine that were coming through the window, accompanied by all the songs singing by birds since the snow disappeared for good.

all that seemed to be some kind of ritual. the usual routine to put peace and stability in his life that he definitely needed. neji always enjoyed order and consistency, and that’s why he simply liked his life like this. so everything he was going through last weeks with you as his roommate was unexpected and completely new for him.

it’s not like you two just met — you moved here almost 8 months ago after all. but the fact that you two were similar in many ways and preferred a lot of things in exactly the same way was giving him chills. you used to wake up around the same time as he does, and it wasn’t surprising that he rarely met anyone like this before. someone to whom the breeze of morning air and pastel shades of the sky appealed similarly delightful. yet today the realization hit him like a ton of bricks because it wasn’t only the morning details anymore as much as the usual sigh of you. of your little ‘good morning’ while you were on your way to the bathroom. the strong smell of his black coffee mixed with the calming scent of your chamomile tea that used to welcome his nostrils every sunrise. and the fact that day by day he started to struggle more to take his eyes off your sleepy face and fabric of pajamas clinging tightly to your body.

‘morning, hyūga’ you murmured, yawning and gently stretching your neck.

‘good morning’ he responds naturally, trying to push every single thought that was occupying his head just a few seconds ago while taking a sip of his coffee. he wasn’t the talkative type, especially in the morning, but this time it wasn't due to scheduling his work or afternoon plans in his head, but an internal struggle with what he liked to consider as misguided thoughts.

it was one of the few times his mind didn't fall so easily into order as normally. neji didn’t know his mind was tricking him the way he didn’t like it at all. he usually keeps everything under control. anything else, in his view, was unknown, unwelcome, and perhaps maybe even a little dangerous.

because before everything else neji was a gentleman. and that’s because he knew very well that he shouldn’t be looking in your direction the way he was doing it at this moment. not with his slightly trembling hands and unexpectedly dry throat, even though he was regularly pouring it with sips of warm liquid. all these actions made him realize that what he was seeing wasn’t an ordinary sight, but something that intrigued him in a pleasing way.

because why did his body suddenly start to react so nervously to every slightest trace of your presence? that would explain as well how the sight of your bare skin under white t-shirt and black shorts was something his eyes were constantly running to. all along with the repressed fact that the surface of your hair falling freely over your shoulders and reflected by the sun's rays were unbelievably tempting for him to run his fingers through.

and besides struggling with banishing all these thoughts for the whole day, now, before 11pm on friday, he was losing his mind because you weren’t home yet. even though you clearly declared going out for one of your friend’s birthday meetings, he began to worry. isn’t it pretty natural, even for a roommate? because this knowledge soothed his frantic mind for the first couple of hours, but the fact that you weren't here so late at night was slowly driving him to the edge of madness.

he didn't usually plot dark scenarios and he didn’t like to assume the worst, therefore the thoughts that occupied his head were even more incomprehensible to him. it's not like it was the first time you came home late — this happened a few times already. so maybe it's just a bad feeling that's driving him today? maybe he should call you? after all, he has your number saved from the beginning of your acquaintance.

but then he finally hears the soft tapping of boots under the door and the turning of a key. like a huge boulder, all the stress that had kept him in suspense for the last dozens of minutes set him free. he exhaled loudly before you could get inside and notice the deeply worried expression on his confused, delicate face.

‘neji?’ the surprise in the tone of your voice when you spelled his name seemed extremely soothing to him. ‘oh, i’m sorry for waking you up…’

‘i must have fallen asleep while reading, so don’t worry.’

he lied, but it was the only way he could justify his sudden presence in the antechamber in such a short period of time. to confirm this version of events, he rubbed his allegedly sleepy eyes with the back of his hand, then watched as you slowly slipped off your shoes while examining your entire figure.

‘i still need to take a shower so even better it happened. how was the evening by the way?’ he asked after a while.

‘great, actually. we started with a movie in the cinema and ended up having a chinese food for a dinner...’

he was naturally a good listener, always paying attention to every word so as not to miss any detail. but now, though he remembered every word that came out of your plump lips, his thoughts wandered elsewhere and you almost figured it out.

‘...but the rest wasn't much different from the other days I spent with the girls. tell me about your day, neji’ you continued while making your way to the kitchen.

‘definitely not worth mentioning at all’ he said, following your footsteps.

‘so it turns out that we have nothing to talk about?’ you giggled as you put your bag on the chair.

‘seems fine to me’ he answered shortly, the corners of his mouth turned up slightly.

and he wasn’t lying. for now, just your presence, the rustle of your clothes and the sound of your breath were soothing to him. the soft clatter of your footsteps with the smell of soap you brought with you from the bathroom after you washed your hands, windblown hair. even your slightly tense shoulders, reddened nose or irritated hand skin. neji watched you as you stood up and slowly made your way over to him. she's just going to get some water, he thought before a slight gust of air brought your perfume to him and any other thought crossed his mind.

watching as you leaned against the top of the sideboard and tried to reach the glass made him a little nervous — what was possibly caused by your sudden closeness. he moved back a little to give you enough room for this manoeuvre but before you touched the holder with your fingertips, your body swayed as you stood on your toes. his reflexes brought him back to you with his arms outstretched in front of him, perfectly matched to the shape of your shoulders and waist, which his hands grasped.

‘did i mention 3 drinks in my story? can be crucial.’

neji didn't laugh or even smile very often. maybe he got it from his father, maybe it had nothing to do with his genes or family, but he knew it wasn't a common reaction to him. now, however, his slightly muffled giggle was spreading throughout his body, to which you were still clinging, because in response to your confession and slightly astonished expression, he forgot that he could easily put you on the ground.

‘perfect timing for this, y/n.’

and maybe he went crazy, but for a moment he thought you fit in his arms perfectly. it even seemed that you too were in no hurry to stand up. he was sure that more than alcohol it was accidental imbalance of your body that caused the whole situation so the only thing that really bothered him was how unnaturally cold your skin felt.

‘thanks for your help, neji...’

‘aren’t you cold?’ he asked, almost cutting your sentence off. his fingers were still clenched on your skin, lightly tracing its ruffled structure.

‘it started to blow a bit in the evening, but i’m not, really’

‘you should take a hot bath’ he suggested without hesitation in the timbre of his voice, gaze closely set on your slightly trembling fingers, what, in fact, wasn't really happening because of the temperature.

‘i appreciate the concern but i think i’m perfectly fine…’

‘at least let me make you something to warm you up’ and not waiting for your silent acceptance, he let your hands go, sending you a gentle smile as he turned towards the rack of cups. he picked up the one you chose the most often, considered it your favorite long time ago. you also couldn’t be more surprised as he reached for your chamomile tea. you had no idea he knew where you keep them too, but seeing his confident movements, he probably kept many other details about your daily habits because he even heated the water to the right temperature.

neji flicked the button of the electric kettle and poured boiling water over the already prepared bag of herbs. then, after a while, he moved the cup under your nose and leaned against the kitchen counter. he put his hands in pants pockets, not sure what to do next. leave, of course, he thought, but surprisingly to him that was exactly what he wanted to avoid the most.

‘thank you, neji’ you mumbled, the smell of rising steam caressing your nostrils.

‘you’re welcome’ he replied almost immediately. you stirred your drink with a spoon a few times, waiting for the tea to cool. meanwhile, neji asked about a broken cupboard hinge that should have been reported to the landlord, then he calmly listened to your complaint about the window not closing properly for the last three days, which you have already reported, but no one has been sent to fix it.

after a couple of minutes you took the first sip of the beverage which melted down your throat, while hyūga was watching the whole procedure respectfully but his thoughts began to deceive him and focus on the shape of your fingers and whether they are still as cold as a moment ago.

‘have you ever tried it?’ you clearly surprised him with your sudden question as you pointed your forefinger at drink.

‘i never had the chance’ he admitted honestly, maybe a little confused. he drunk sencha, peppermint and matcha tea many times but chamomile perhaps occasionally in the past and that’s how he did not remember it.

‘now you have! come, sit down’ you slid your cup across the table towards him, inviting him by pulling out the chair next to you so that neji, who had been standing in the same place for several minutes, could take it.

after a moment he finally, but hesitantly sat down. however, when you handed him your drink he felt that he should not give, just like he didn't want to say no to you as well. he felt guilty that you’re still maybe even a little drunk or maybe overwhelmed by all his actions but at the same time you were looking at him so kindly, just wanting to share one of your favorite things in this world.

not wanting to dwell on it any longer, he took the cup and brought it to his face. naturally, of all things to think about the only one was that your lips were here first to kiss the brew just a few seconds ago and he was about to do the same too. to imagine that he was indirectly tasting them made his stomach twist and a noticeable mark of lip balm on the cup that they left only made everything worse. he took a small sip and his heart started to beat even crazier when he poured the liquid into his mouth.

‘it tastes... very herbal.’

a sweet, melodious laugh left your lips.

‘did you expect something specific?’

‘of course i did not. but the flavor is more intriguing than i imagined.’

‘if so, do you mind more?’

‘no, thank you. i'll try some another time. the aftertaste somehow seems calming.’

paradoxically, the moment you put your lips to the cup again, any calmness left neji's body aside. he looked at them like he was doing something illegal, especially when he got a tickling feeling in his stomach, yet couldn't look away. he realized that your mouth are pressed almost in the same place he already marked with his. those same, perfectly plump and probably very, very warm lips must have tasted the warmth of his own right now. neji’s pulse began to accelerate as he lost control again and hated it in that moment like never before.

with a blink of an eye he imagined the moisture of your lips exchanging not on the rim of some ceramic cup, but on his own. once he got to know the touch of your skin today, he only relentlessly wanted more. as he accidentally grabbed you by your waist and by your wrists today, it turned out he wanted to tighten his fingers on other parts of your body too. to know how chamomile tea tastes straight from the corners of your mouth, even your tongue. what it's like to have you close not only because of an accident and to warm your body with the heat of his own. he wanted to know it all, not knowing that this desire had been sitting within him for some time, manifesting itself in an attentive focus on your person.

because all the time before neji thought it was normal that so many songs from your playlist that you listened to in your room was running through his head so often. that quite objectively he thought that you had very neat hair and he liked the smell of your shampoo in the morning so much just because it fits his taste. that he really never paid attention to your body parts at all but only pieces of clothing you were wearing because he liked your color palette. and that the daily ‘good morning’ was not really all about the soothing sound of your voice and your presence, which without he couldn’t imagine any good mornings.

he felt as if it was him who got drunk, not you, and not after only three drinks. so as a solution he needed a literal refreshing bucket of cold water in the shower. neji had to analyze his emotions alone which surely won't keep him busy just this one night but also many, many more.

as if roused from his reverie, neji rose from his chair, much more hurriedly than he had intended. forcing himself to ignore the slightly confused look on your face, because no matter what, he needed to get out of the kitchen as soon as possible. and before you could ask him anything, he was leaving with a goodbye promise:

‘next time you will be coming back this late just give me a sign. i'll pick you up.’ masterlist
