one thing I just want to float out there that I haven't seen among the disappointment over the obvious nominations for Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig is that the nomination for best picture is also a nomination for them. It IS ironic and a total "the point was back there" thing that Barbieland's resident supporter of the patriarchy's portrayal got the acting nomination, and I am not trying to minimize people's very just "wtf" reactions, that's justified. But the Best Picture trophy goes in the hands of the producers, and Margot Robbie is not only a producer on the film but also a huge reason the film got made the way it did, where it wasn't just a two hour Mattel advertisement. The Academy members casting their ballots for actors might have seen just horses, but Margot Robbie is also getting recognized for her bts contributions. Her producing career to me is really interesting, because she has demonstrated a vested interest in taking (for example) two really iconic cultural figures who have been pigeon-holed in one way or another to be thought of as lesser and given them narratives of emancipation and self-determination. I think that's important to recognize, too.
nb: I don't claim to be an expert on how the nomination process works, but I definitely read all those articles that come out where anonymous members of various voting academies tell media outlets how/why they vote the way they do, and there's literally always someone who's like "listen I thought x was fantastic in y but I also know they're going to be recognized for z, so I voted for a for that reason," and there's already a lot of talk about why a female director nominated for a drama might have edged out a female director for a comedic film that is somehow less serious, but she's still being recognized for her script, so I'm sure there are people rationalizing how they doled out their votes and apparently I, a plebeian office-chair commentator am one of them.

Ok look some things in the 95 movie is dated,stinky,and omfg why did they do that?! Buuuuuuuut. BUT! i still feel it holds up and truly captured the essence of mortal kombat. And not many other versions. Can hold up. Not counting any games. Other mk media outside the games. Very few come close. Because it's that fucking iconic. If it wasn't for this movie. We wouldn't have a bop fire of a fucking theme song. No guy screaming viciously "MORTAL KOMBAT!!!" No amazing reappearance of tagawa shang tsung. No mk11. Hell no futher games. It would have faded into obscurity. So the success of this movie. Laid the foundation of future games,and mk media. So pay your fucking respects! *stares intensely at 21 movies jaxs actor for dissing raidens actor in the 95 for no fucking real reason because he wanted 15min of fame,not even talking about how game devs have been racist to his own character jax,guys just dumb to me fr. 🎤👠🌟 Hi there, (21+) F here! So with the show being dead and done (hopefully for good), I think it's safe to say that The Idol on HBO by Sam Levinson was an extremely underwhelming dumpster fire of male gaze voyeurism that totally failed what it could've been. The dialogue was poorly written, the characterization was subpar, the sex was not sexy and the Weeknd did not give what needed to be gave.
Which is to say: I just wanted to know if anyone might be interested in doing an OC x OCs/Mumu Discord RP where they'll essentially write as an aspiring pop star or actor (Y/C) who, after having a nervous breakdown, huge scandal, major fall from grace, etc. decides they want to make the comeback of the century, but end ups getting involved with the wrong crowd (M/C's) and starts a tumultuously toxic relationship with a conman/leader (M/C) of a modern day cult.
Essentially, I am looking to fix The Idol! Obviously no prior knowledge of the show is required, I'm only using the premise as a blueprint. And while I'd love to keep the glitzy grimy aesthetic of the show, I'd have no problem changing everything and anything else. I'd love to make it queerer (MxM/FxF) and include more POC and trans/nb characters, as well as completely overhaul the general pacing of the story. I'd also want to explore the effects of child stardom, the commodification of celebrity as products instead of people, the dangers of Hollywood nightlife, and what it means to be an icon! I'd also like to keep the 18+ and adult/darker themes which means I do have to ask MDNI.
Finally, I'm pretty open to kink and smut (as well as incorporating themes of: age gaps, manipulation, corruption, exploitation, etc.) and would prefer it if my partner was as well. I do consider myself to be an advanced-lit/novella length RPer, but I'm very much a quality over quantity type of person. Oh, and I do have a preference for celeb FCs so please no drawn character or anime references. SO !! team starkid !! they r a group who writes & performs original musicals. these range from parodies like Twisted (Aladdin, but from Jafar's POV) to the thing theyre most known for- the Hatchetfield universe
Hatchetfield is the name of a town on a fictional island in Lake Michigan in which this series/these musicals take place. Within the Hatchetfield universe there is TGWDLM, Black Friday, and Nightmare Time. Everything in the Hatchetfield universe is best described as horror comedy, and it does get quite dark at times.
TGWDLM (which stands for The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals) is where I would recommend you start. It's the easiest for a new Starkid viewer to understand, is almost entirely self-contained (bonus lore from other content is FUN but not at all NEEDED or important to understanding anything). It tells the story of Paul, the titular Guy Who Doesn't Like Musicals, and what happens to him when a meteor crashes into Hatchetfield and causes everyone to start singing and dancing! I would honestly recommend it anyways just because it's a really fun watch regardless. Warnings: guns, character death, [fake] blood & guts, body horror, mind control. Also, a song near the beginning has very explicit (sexual) lyrics.
Black Friday is best viewed as a sequel to TGWDLM. It gets a little more into the lore and sets up more of the overarching world. I honestly like Black Friday better than TGWDLM, but it is also even darker & more lore-heavy. Also it can be confusing on your first watch. It follows various citizens trying to buy a new toy called a Wiggly for Christmas, and the subsequent events that causes. Warnings: death, [fake] blood (not a ton! Less than TGWDLM), what could easily be seen as mob mentalities/near mind control, guns, what could be seen as stalking/hunting people.
Nightmare Time is best seen as a series of podcasts/seperate "episodes." You can listen to just the audio if you want, you won't miss anything important (although the actors are AMAZING so I would definitely say watching it is worth it). There are two seasons, which have 3-4 episodes each. They elaborate a LOT on the lore/world of Hatchetfield. If you need individual tws, they should be in the video descs. I will warn you the Hatchetfield series is very dark. I love it and it is a LOT of fun though! Latte Hatte is the #4 cause of my homosexuality (/silly). also nb rep that i as a nb person very much enjoy!! also more of lauren lopez being iconic. also a KILLER theme song.
Also recommended outside of Hatchetfield are Trail to Oregon & Firebringer. I personally don't love the amount of toilet humor in Trail to Oregon, but it's still a fun musical and the acting is phenomenal as always. Firebringer has iconic songs, a HILARIOUS narrator character, leabians, and Lauren Lopez as the lead. there is literally nothing more you could ask for. it's perfect. Gods I love Lauren Lopez she's so iconic.

No, it's not actually unprofessional, those pictures where from the fitting test, when they were trying out different wigs, styles and stuff. In the early stages of production, Klaus was meant to have short hair in s2 too, but even if they were just CONSIDERING longer hair, they would've told the actors to let it grow, because of course it's easier to cut than make them suddenly appear. So yeah.
I get the whole not-wanting-him-to-look-like-nathan because he even has basically the same powers, and I think Rob looks great with short hair (like now) but I can't really picture Klaus with that haircut, so I hope they find another way, tbh. Either way, it's unlikely they'll keep it THIS SHORT until shooting.
Enough rambling on my side! Sorry!

why is pretty much everyone so against him having short hair in tua? his hair is not what makes him klaus or rob or beautiful or a nb icon anything anything. we don't love him for his hair, do we? i'm just saying there's a way to make it work and it'd be cool if they used it. i'd prefer him have his current hair rather than another wig.

i’ve began reading OHSHC and i’ve seen a little bit of the anime. i keep reading haruhi as transmasc/non binary, so sometimes i get confused when the characters use “she/her,” pronouns for them. overall i do like the series :> i like the twins a lot and haruhi
haruhi is VERY nb/transmasc like!!! my personal headcanon is that they are bigender being both demigirl and transmasc but fall under the nonbinary label and use any pronouns..... yes it is complicated but haruhi is my girlboyfriend and i care for him so so so Much.
I'm glad you like it so far tho!!! I need to read the manga, I haven't yet. I dunno if I will bc it's overwhelming to me to get tasked with that but I do see a lot of panels and pages from it and it seems very funny. Plus a lot of stuff in there doesn't make it to the anime/stuff that doesn't get resolved in the anime does in the manga. But the anime is just so fun, especially the english dub.... caitlin glass was the literal perfect choice for Haruhi and also she did a great job directing the anime too iirc. Also I just looked her up on wikipedia and she did Whis's sister in Dragon Ball Super??? www
Also the anime does just have an iconic voice cast with both Todd Haberkorn and Greg Ayres doing the twins. I LOVE greg's voice so much and it makes Kaoru really unique with his voice. the one downside is that they sound.... nothing alike.... unlike the Japanese dub where their voices are very similar. So this makes the "Which one is Hikaru?" game make like 0 sense in english lol which one is hikaru well obvious the one who isn't a chain smoker
Also Vic Mignogna (despite the... '''history''') does a VERY good Tamaki and I adore it. He's also Broly in dbz/dbs which!! I love dragon ball super: broly so that is awesome to hear. Speaking of Greg is Frost in that series too. Then again, I think if you're in anime, you've voice acted at least 1 character in dragon ball... also Michael Tatum as Kyoya is perfect.
(btw Tamaki's japanese va is the same va as light yagami..... keikaku)
also was anyone gonna tell me Mori's va IS KNUCKLES CURRENT VOICE ACTOR???? HELLO??? MY FAVORITE SONIC CHARACTER.... IS MORINOZUKA....

GARY: So you come from Small Heath in Birmingham (NB It’s King’s Heath). How proud were you when the Commonwealth Games came to Brum?
TOYAH: I am super proud of Birmingham. The Commonwealth Games was effortlessly perfect. Everyone just did so well. Birmingham as a city did brilliantly and I find Birmingham very exciting in this millennium
I was making a movie in Birmingham on a little back street about 2007 called “Battleship Earth” (she means “Invasion Planet Earth”) and we were suddenly approached by Steven Spielberg, who was shooting a test sequence for one of his movies on this street
And I found out that even Spielberg loves Birmingham, and the thought that the Eurovision Song Contest could come from Birmingham next year! We've got to champion this!
GARY: I think that would be an amazing idea. And listen, you're an outrageous and an adventurous person. What if you represented us in the Eurovision Song Contest?

GARY: And like you’re not? You’re not exactly shy and retiring are you, Toyah?
TOYAH: I'm not shy and retiring and I certainly could give a good match to Norway's usual entries, especially when it comes to costumes, etc etc. I would do it if I was asked. I think this is a competition for young, new, undiscovered brilliant talent. But I would do it

TOYAH: Sunday Lunch
GARY: It’s good to see you're not calming down
TOYAH: It's good to see me dressed as well this morning (they both laugh) It started with a 28 second clip I posted in the first three weeks of lockdown two years ago of me teaching my husband Robert Fripp to dance
He can't tell his left foot from his right foot and we got 100,000 responses within five minutes of me posting this on YouTube from people, who were alone in lockdown and saying that we had given them something to smile about and how much they love that clip
And for the last two and a half years we've continued to do it. We now have 110 million hits worldwide. We've even been approached about a movie being made about it -
GARY: Seriously?!
TOYAH: Yeah, and we're taking it on the road in October 2023. It's actually become absolutely epic in our life
GARY: It’s brilliant! I mean your husband, Robert Fripp, his facial expressions - they are mind blowing, just the way he looks. And you. I mean, you should be ashamed of yourself at that age! (jokingly, laughs)
TOYAH: I'm 64 and proud of it
GARY: You look fantastic!
TOYAH: Well, thank you. And as you know, Gary, we remain rockers. Age is just a number. And I love the fact that my husband, who is 76, behaves just as badly as me. He is an absolute rock god, he should be an actor
He's so brilliant and this is why he's on my single “Slave To The Rhythm” because he's a great guitarist. The world knows this. He's played with Bowie, Talking Heads, Blondie. He's even played with The Damned
And of course he has his band King Crimson, but we now have our band, The Posh Pop Three and our first album in August went to number one in about 36 charts. In the main charts, it went to 22. And this has really launched us and it led to me playing the Isle of Wight for the first time ever in my career in June
GARY: I want to talk about that. But I also want to play your new single. It's a cover of Grace Jones’ “Slave To The Rhythm”. I'll play it now and we'll chat about it afterwards, OK?
TOYAH: Thank you!
GARY: Can I introduce it in the style of Grace Jones?
TOYAH: I'd like to hear that
GARY: (does the voice over like in the beginning of the Grace Jones version) Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Toyah Willcox

GARY: Toyah together with Robert Fripp, “Slave To The Rhythm”. That is Toyah’s brand new single and she's with us live on the show this morning. That is so good
TOYAH: Thank you. We wanted something different to the iconic version that Grace Jones did. And we have had Trevor Horn’s blessing. Trevor Horn produced it and my long term writing partner Simon Darlow, who produced this new single … he was kind of the original writer on “Slave To The Rhythm” and I was the demo singer. So this song has one hell of a history and a story not only in my life, but in Grace Jones' life as well
GARY: Are you a big fan of Grace Jones? Have you met her?
TOYAH: Oh, gosh. Talk about about originality!
GARY: Did she inspire you?
TOYAH: Well, actually my career started almost 10 years before Grace’s career (they both laugh) But what I will say is everything she's done is absolute perfection. Perfection in artistic terms and originality and my goodness, she's amazing on stage
GARY: She is, isn't she? So tell me about the new album. When's it coming out?
TOYAH: Well, we have done a reimagining of “In The Court Of The Crimson Queen” (above) with Robert Fripp on it, and this single will be on it. Pre-orders (are open) now, (it will be released) 10th of February, but I've got a lot going on before then - I'm touring with Billy Idol and so much more -
GARY: I know! You're so busy! So you've got a tour with Billy Idol in October, which is gonna be brilliant. And then you're off on your Anthem 40 + 1 Tour
TOYAH: Yes, that was supposed to be obviously last year and “Anthem” is my big multi-gold album from 1981 which I'm touring right through September, October into November. And luckily Billy Idol’s arena tour fits perfectly with the “Anthem” tour. So I'm touring two shows at once
GARY: You’re a workaholic, aren’t you?
TOYAH: Well, I'm very, very grateful to see that audience again (laughs)
GARY: Tell me about the Isle Of Wight Festival? So you played it for the first time this year. How was it?
TOYAH: It was absolutely extraordinary because I played the big tent and as I stood in the wings waiting I thought a few thousand people will come in, but the crowds just came and came and they were just ramming that tent
And I think we had about 12,000 people crammed into that tent and people who couldn't get in. And I have a 45 year career with 28 albums to fit into a set. That's a lot to do - and 15 hit singles. So I cherry-picked right from the punk moments through to the present day. We even did “Slave To The Rhythm” and it was magnificent
GARY: I've got a few messages coming in here. Trish says good morning, Toyah. I've been a huge fan all my years. I still love your “Anthem” album. Loved you at The Rebellion -
TOYAH: Rebellion was amazing! On the promenade at Blackpool
GARY: Richard in Tamworth says please tell Toyah my 13 year old son Fraser saw her on Saturday night and she now has a new fan. He loved her and said her ending was awesome
TOYAH: Well, I would like to send my love to that brilliant audience. They were out there in 37 degree heat. 10,000 people absolutely loving the music. Thank you Tamworth
GARY: Amazing. I've got to ask you about the movie “Give Them Wings”, which is coming out. And it's based on an incredible true story, isn't it?
TOYAH: This is the story of Paul Hodgson, who when he was very young, he contracted meningitis and became paraplegic. His mother was called Alice and she looked after him til she had a stroke. Then Paul looked after her and he was lost in the system. He didn't get any help. So this is a true story
It's released now, we finished it just a month before lockdown. I've been nominated by the best critics award for the Richard Harris Festival as the surprise actress of the season for my role as “Alice” (Toyah with the director Sean Cronin (on the right) and Bill Fellows who plays Norman Hodgson, below) It’s a phenomenal story
GARY: You a play his mother?
TOYAH: Yes, I play his mother and believe it or not as sad and as crazy as this story is - because he is a Darlington football fan and he used to go to the football in his wheelchair and he would chant obscenities at the opposition
He even used to get beaten up and he'd still be shouting obscenities at the opposition. Paul Hodgson is still with us. He's a brilliant, brilliant script writer. And he's just the most amazing man and he will sit in his wheelchair and tell you like it is
GARY: Still shouting obscenities! Love it!
TOYAH: He tells people the truth!
GARY: Trevor in Eastborne says I was lucky to see Toyah at the Isle of Wight. She was amazing! Gave a great performance. James in Northern Ireland: Toyah played at the Let's Rock Festival here and her and her band were fantastic, Toyah rocked and she jumped about just like she's a teenager … I’ve just had a text saying - is it true? You're on The Archers this week?!
TOYAH: Yes! (they both laugh)
GARY: How was that?!
TOYAH: It was fabulous! We recorded it at The Archers studio in Birmingham. I was on with the icon called Pat. I was there with all the characters, loving every moment of it and I can't tell you the storyline but it's so funny

as someone who is also not cis, the blatant disregard of certain members comfort when it comes to cis fcs - and namely, problematic cis fcs - playing non cis characters genuinely gave me severe gender dysphoria in everwell. their excuse was just that they didnt really care about fcs because they accepted faceless and art icons; but there are TONS of trans and nonbinary and gender diverse fcs beyond just mainstream actors, and plenty of rph blogs out there have lists and lists of options. especially since this group never needed gifs or edits for posting, accepting trans/nonbinary erasure when members say it makes them uncomfortable is still messed up. as well as that, in my experience, the characters who were gender diverse never actually had it shown in any bios or interactions beyond just a mention. imo, they were doing it for the diversity check, not to accurately and respectfully represent trans/nb people.
this is a big problem in so many groups! people love throwing a diverse ethnicity, race, gender, etc. out there, just to disregard it and never work it into their characters. as long as everyone passes the diversity rule, everything else is cast aside.

EW EW EW NOT LESBIAN ICON CLAWDEEN WITH DEUCE NO NO NO WTF god i hate this movie. i was gonna say that they released the cast for the animated series and im excited bc one of my favorite actors (iris menas) is voicing frankie!! the rest of the show looks mid tho. this reboot truly is atrocious except for nb frankie they deserve more than this -poe
nb frankie I love you so much I wish this wasn't your introduction to the world.
I haven't watched anything Iris is in but zie seems cool.
Also I forgot to mention the VidCon stuff. They had a whole interactive experience thing there and there was some interesting stuff going on with Heath.
And someone said there was the Human Rights Campaign symbol on his bookbag
