Hello....If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
I can’t remember if I’ve done this before but it’s changed again recently. Most of these are gonna be books because I’ve had way too much time sitting around lately so I’ve had enough time to actually enjoy books without destroying my sleep schedule for it.
1. BBC Merlin is my all time favourite, I don’t feel like I need to elaborate, it’s pretty much all I post about on here.
2. Song of Achilles is still my all time favourite book and number 2 behind Merlin. I think I’m nearing 20 rereads total for it by now. It’s never boring and keeps me interested every time. Cannot recommend enough. I’d give anything to be able to read it again for the first time.
3. I’ve been reading quite a few classics recently, I had a lot of free time. I met another Greek mythology nerd so Iliad and Odyssey make my top ten again because they’ve been on my mind a lot more than I care to admit. (I know it’s technically two books but I always read them together)
4. And I finally got around to reading Iron Heart (sequel to Crier’s war) and it’s amazing. One of the best books I’ve read recently. I’m gonna leave it at that or I’ll start ranting but I can’t recommend it enough so definitely go read that if you get a chance.
5. BBC Musketeers is also really good, I started watching that recently. I’m only on episode 6 but it’s great so far. Santiago Cabrera’s hair is fucking gender. Also the show got me researching 17th century weapons and now I know a fair amount about capes so that’s fun. BBC is still shit at historical accuracy, but no surprise there.
6. The Great Gatsby because I’m that kind of nerd and I’ve been mostly rereading recently. Everyone is such an arsehole in that book but it’s so interesting to analyse and annotate. I read it in year 7 and hated it, then again in college and it wasn’t bad but 3rd times a charm I guess. I found it really interesting from an analytical perspective, but I wouldn’t read it for light reading or fun.
7. I’ve been avoiding anything new other than musketeers, just because I haven’t felt like getting to know a new set of characters and a new world. That being said, I rewatched the first season of Good Omens, Crowleys still one of my all time favourite characters and the show is great.
8. I rewatched Stars Align, always a fun one. It’s a great show and the art style is really cool.
9. Seraph of the end because I love vampire stories. The plot is really interesting, I still need to read the manga but the anime is brilliant so I want to read that soon. Also no romance (ignoring shipping) which my aroace self appreciates.
10. The Tempest because my cousin was studying it in school and asked for help so I reread it for her and got a little bit hyper-fixated for a few days, now it’s still just sort of in the back of my mind and I’m a Shakespeare nerd so might as well add it.
Thanks for the ask!

Abbott Elementary S03E05 thoughts
I LOVE YOU BARBARA HOWARD
That cold open was funny as hell - “Brother, sister, and maam” I burst out laughing in the first minute
What did Jacob and Gregory experience at Melissa’s bar??
“But that was last week” melissa are u okay? Are u refusing to admit your breakup hurt?
The bros <3 i lovee jacob and gregory’s friendship and the way it has developed SO MUCH
“Now im just one musketeer and theyre two assholes who dont invite me to things” IS SO FUNNY 😭😭😭
“Step practice is more important than homework, if any of ur teachers disagree i can and will fire them” Ava 😭😭 she’s been 10/10 this season but especially this episode, one liner after one liner, getting janelle that emmy I see you
Don’t mind me just a workwives shipper noting the difference in reaction barb has between ava touching her and melissa touching her
SISTER SLOSS I AM IN YOUR WALLS I HATE YOU HOW DARE U INSULT BARB - and the way Barb then covers her lips no it makes me so sad (AND the way she wears neutral colours the rest of the ep)
This whole barb scene is just great jacob moment after great jacob moment, but the darts skills are particularly relatable
It makes me so sad that jacob and zach have been fighting, I know a break up is the best thing but :( I thought they’d get married and janine would be a bridesmaid (if not maid of honour)
Honeymoon, hell, stuck here 😭💔
“It just so happens its never me” 😣 barb honey 🥺🫂
“WHAT IS A CHOIR IF NOT A SORORITY FOR THE LORD” see one liner after one liner!!!!
Okay this whole melissa story imma just summarise here - I don’t get it. Melissa introducing herself to someone is straight out of character (is it meant to be development? idk i dont get it), the fact they actually were qualified and janine and mel were wrong feels flat - it would’ve felt like a better end of the story if they were right, it didn’t even feel like there was a beginning middle and end just they suspected the teacher and were wrong. Something was missing, maybe it’s because Janine’s at the district idk, but this whole arc felt rushed and shoe horned in to the ep.
As soon as janine said she was making a tough decision I couldn’t wait to see what actually dumb unimportant thing it was so v happy to be right
Jacob just end it instead of dragging out the pain 💔
Jacob watching the eras tour! I’m desperate to know his favourite era
“Sorry I had to take that” “we saw you dial” lmao
“No sister sloss its the same one” “Same several” OOH THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTING
I’ve actually wondered about Barb’s piercings for ages bc it seems ooc so seeing it addressed was for me actually
The gasps and the sponge squeeze LARRY OWENS U WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS
Love love love the casual non binary rep and that it was just normal
Barb opening up to ava 🥺🩷 I loved this moment so much, Barb’s faith is such a big part of who she is and to know that it hasn’t always been simple and straightforward and what singing in the choir means to her it’s just so 🥺
Not to make everything gay but the pause and look to camera for “I’m … friends with some of abbott’s more colourful teachers” barb did u almost come out? (And does colourful mean 🏳️‍🌈 [and does that include melissa] or shady (definitely includes melissa)
Ava setting up barb’s concert 🥹🥹🥹🥹 I’ll cry
Melissa was so so proud oh my goodness 😭 proudest wife ever
Give me Barbara’s full album
Let me hear her whistle tone
Overall:
I’ll miss u larry owens please come back
Janelle and chris are coming for their emmys / nominations
Barb 🥺🩷
Idk what that melissa janine story was
Still need more mr johnson

What are your top five television shows of all time?
Thank you for the tag @wannab-urs 😘
I watch quite a few shows, but not many achieve favourite status.
Supernatural. I watched right from the beginning when it started airing in the UK in Jan 2006 and by the episode Faith I knew it would be with me until the end of time. I am of course a Dean girl.
A Discovery of Witches. I read the books before watching the show, and I love how true it stayed to the source material. The cast was fantastic. The soundtrack was awesome too.
Narcos. I didn't start watching Narcos until like March last year, so i was really late to the party, but now its one of my comfort shows. I obviously watch it solely for the plot 🤔
The Musketeers. I always swore that no one would ever replace Oliver Reed as Athos for me, and then Tom Burke spent like 5 minutes getting dressed while extremely hung over and I was a gonna. The 1st season is my favourite, so many good moments and lines in it, "I cannot believe you slept with the Queen!" 🤣
The Mandalorian. I am born and bread a Star Wars girly, so I was always going to watch it with or without Pedro Pascal being in it. I expected to love it because I love Star Wars, what I didn't expect was to fall so completely in love with so many of the characters.

I was tagged by: @matbaynton - thank you! <3
Tag someone you want to know AND/OR some of your besties.
This turned into a monster of a thing so I'm sticking it under a cut!
Favourite colour: I am rubbish at this question. I love various colours in various contexts, but at the moment I am really gravitating towards greens. Green is a colour I haven't paid much attention to before, but for some reason over the last few months I have taken an interest in it. I even bought a solid green jumper!
Tumblr media
Last song: When Things Explode by Unkle. It's a song I first heard on an episode of Person of Interest and it's now on one of my YouTube music playlists. Takes me right back!
Last movie: I had to check my Letterboxd for this - that's how often I'm watching films at the moment! It was the 1995 version of Persuasion that I rewatched at the end of August. A film I only discovered recently but has become one of those instant comforting favourites.
Currently watching: Oh heck - I'm struggling to keep track, there are so many! I'm watching The English at the moment. Also Outsiders series 2, Taskmaster series 16, New Girl (on season 2), This Farming Life series 6 with my dad on a Sunday morning, All Creatures Great and Small series 4, Fletchers' Family Farm series 2, Schitt's Creek with @phantomviola (on season 5), The Musketeers (series 2) and Black Books (series 3) with @userdjarin and who could forget Our Flag Means Death season 2 which has taken over my brain! Along with all that I squeezed in a Primeval series 2 rewatch which I finished the other night. [slaps roof of my brain] this bad boy can fit so many narratives in it.
Other stuff I watched this year: HAH! I have an IMDb list of TV shows I've watched this year! It's long as heck! Silk, The IT Crowd, Black Sails, The Last of Us, Lost in Space, Endeavour, The Terror, Arrested Development, Community, Vicious, Prehistoric Planet, Why Didn't They Ask Evans?, Ted Lasso, Miranda, The North Water, His Dark Materials, And Then There Were None, Jonathan Strange & Mister Norrell, The Great British Sewing Bee, The Bear, Blackadder, 30 Rock, Chernobyl and The Expanse. And those are just the ones worth mentioning! And some of these I watched four times! Okay, one thing. Okay, it was The Terror.
As for films, it's a poor show this year - I haven't watched as many (see above for reason why). I have seen the latest Spiderverse film and I've love to see Barbie!
Shows I dropped this year/didn’t finish: The Mandalorian (sob!), Vikings (I think I was maybe an episode or two shy of finishing the first season but... man... I just wasn't having fun), My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (to be fair this might have been last year, I can't remember, but I know I stopped a few episodes into season 2), Fleabag (I watched one or two episodes... wasn't quite for me).
Currently reading: Darwin by Adrian J. Desmond and James R. Moore (about 100 pages in but I'm taking this one slow because I'm not hyperfixating on him) and Dead Famous by Greg Jenner which I am taking even slower. I've read quite a few books related to the Franklin Expedition this year (thanks, The Terror) and for a while I was reading pretty solidly but I guess that's what hyperfixation does to you!
Currently listening to: I'm not really listening to music much these days thanks to YouTube's annoying ad blocker pop-up so I'm typing this in silence, haha! But podcast-wise I'm doing great. Three Bean Salad is probably my favourite podcast at the moment. The humour is just too good, and I look forward to hearing the lads every week. I'm also binging The Rest is History which is a bit more serious but still has its fun moments. I'm also listening to Off Menu, No Such Thing as a Fish, The Bones Booth, Taskmaster: The Podcast, The Mariner's Mirror Podcast, and odd episodes of RHLSTP if I know the guest. I save podcasts for when I'm doing something like washing the dishes, walking or driving.
Currently working on: Now that the puppy I found at the end of August is vaccinated, she can go out and about, and that has led to me abandon the polymer clay for a while to return to a hobby that I haven't spent much time on since early 2020 at the latest. I wanted to make her some nice collars and leads so she looks smart for our walks which I will inevitably be photographing. I know it's kind of hard to see but I made this collar and lead for her.
Tumblr media
I was a bit worried that I'd forgotten how to sew the leather but thankfully not. I have a few more straps of leather lying around that I'd like to make into collars and leads as well. And several rope leads that need whipping (you wrap thinner twine around the thicker rope to finish it and protect the end from fraying) but I'm having to take my time with those because the twine is murder on my soft, delicate, feminine hands. I can whip maybe four leads before my fingers are red. It's worth the pain!
Current obsession: Our Flag Means Death has taken over my life once again. Whatever happens in the finale next week, I know I will be a mess. Heck, I'm already a mess.
I'm tagging: some recent mutuals so we can get to know each other, but no pressure! @tigerballoons, @woofety, @jackharkness, @jddryder, @ajcrowleys and @skatingthinandice! <3

It was a normal, ordinary day last December when I decided to catch up on some of the series on my To Watch list. I thought hmm, this one has three seasons but let's try the first episode, and BAM! Long story short, I now have a Tumblr account.
I'll give you ONE guess whose fault that is...
Tumblr media
So, to all you amazing The Musketeers and Salvation people... THANK YOU! You're part of the reason why this account exists. Also to all the content creators of favourites like SG-1, SGA, Farscape, Star Trek: Enterprise, The Brave, Supernatural, Star Wars, etc. It's amazing to rediscover the love for these shows and movies!
Great stuff!

Companion AU for Aisling! I don't know if you have another Inquisitor sitting on the backburner or if you have a friend's OC you want to use as the protagonist instead!
Hello!
Actually… Radha is my second Inquisitor! But for this, since you suggested to borrow some friends’ character, I asked @ndostairlyrium if I could borrow her Hawke. Tagging also @shivunin who asked for the same prompt, here you go!
And so you have an Aisling as a companion… In DA2. Somewhere around Act 3. She got adopted, her personal quest was… whimsical. Yes that’s a Three Musketeers reference.
And I decided to take inspiration from the “Drunk sleeping in the dog’s bed” episode, and attempted a prequel. (she got back with a blanket, tho, they found her curled up with him)
Also yes I’m bringing this to life.
Tis the prompt list.
Saving Grace.
24. Companion AU (MC as a companion instead of the protagonist)
It all had started innocently enough.
It kept on being innocent enough, save for the fact that one day the things she left around the house for practicality were so much that she realized she had brought up all her belongings, and just had to tell Merrill who had guested her before that she could have her house back to herself. Which Merrill already knew and just laughed at, wishing her friend good night and reminding her they should still meet at the same hour they usually started working.
She reached Kirkwall one late autumn evening, covered as if she had to cross the whole of Ferelden in the peak of winter. A friend of Merrill, she told everyone, from inside a hood lined silly with fur. No mystery was made that she was asked to check on the other Dalish by Keeper Merethari, after her clan stopped by in Sundermount after being chased up almost to Tevinter by slavers. So, since the Lavellan decided to seek out another clan to take a breather, finally back south and freed from any pursuers, they had found an occupation for their First. The two girls were friends, they had met in a couple of Arlathvens and bonded up as Firsts and gifted children that switched clans in their early childhood… And it didn’t take long for the newcomer, Aisling, to be convinced that Merrill’s research wasn’t anything to worry about and offer her her own help, and settle in with the whole of the gang.
Because apparently Aisling Lavellan was a good ally in a combat, shooting lightning with a creepy precision, and could also make friends with rocks, provided that -as some unfortunate merchant discovered- she wasn’t asked to pay for Elfroot.
Even Fenris… Well, Fenris tolerated her.
Which was fortunate, since she could be found most often at Hawke’s, lately, and was seemingly everywhere he was, a smile on her face, a hug to give, a whacky experiment to try on, and a way to involve the broody elf as well as if it was the most normal thing to do, as if he never grumbled at her or called her dangerous.
She just shrugged at him, agreed that yes, she was dangerous, and went to ask him what his favourite colour was for the flower crowns she was braiding for Hawke, Bodahn and Sandal, Orana, Dog, and now Fenris too, since he showed up for the evening.
In a month’s time, random visits to chat and experiment on magic became daily ones. Which lead to Aisling falling asleep on the couch or in Dog’s bed (she loved Dog, and the feeling was mutual). Which lead to her bringing up a change of clothes whenever she came over around dinner time by month two. Which lead to her just bringing up the rest of her things and settling up in the guest room by month three. She even admitted, when it was clear she basically lived in the manor, now, that she was relieved of the new settling, and of not having to play the third wheel when Isabela came around at Merrill’s and there was just not enough space to give the pair some privacy.
She smirked at Fenris at that, and that was how Fenris knew that she was indeed maybe even more dangerous that she let on at a first glance.
In a very cute and bubbly way, but still dangerous.
---
Dangerous indeed, when she showed up in the library, one late evening, when the air was growing tense and electric and, as the local thunder harnesser, Aisling was magically summoned by no one in particular.
Not that you could really hold a grudge with her, already in her night outfit - a long shirt that clearly belonged to someone else, sported two patches on the front in bright colours and reached her mid thighs, making her look even shorter than she was.
“I can’t sleep.” She explained, grumpily, padding her way in the room when she was asked what was wrong.
Without an invitation, she curled on the couch where the other two were sitting, hugging Hawke’s arm who was now sitting in the middle of two elves, and resting her head on his shoulder with a satisfied, happy sigh. Fenris frowned at her, but she -as per her usual when he did- completely ignored it.
“I promise Dog will forgive you for not sharing your dinner with him.” Hawke shifted, slipping his arm out of her grasp to hug her shoulders, leaning his head over hers and getting comfier with the new addition to the set-up. “Onions are really bad for him, tho.”
“But he looked so forlorn…”
“You’re spoiling him.” Fenris grumbled.
“Oh, I’m not! He’s but a cute puppy that deserves all the treats! But we can’t have it if his belly will ache.” She sighed deeply. “But that wasn’t what I was thinking about.”
Usually, when she was thinking, it was always the premise for some shenanigan to happen. Whether it was a drinking contest she and Merrill always won, or a whacky experiment that made her and Sandal come up with lamps that, fueled by magic, kept shining without fuel, or the most dangerous thoughts: her failing experiments in the kitchen, trying to help Orana with dinner.
The air tensed up again, for a wholly different reason.
“Hawke, can I ask you a favour? I wouldn’t, normally, but since everyone does…” She huffed, not really sure about the whole fact.
“More than cracking here indefinitely?” Fenris quipped, raising one eyebrow at her.
“I thought that could be an inspiration, you see.” She smirked at him again, with that same knowing expression that just send the other elf always -always- to abruptly leave whatever bickering they were holding up.
And most of their interactions were of a bickering kind.
“All right, children, it’s too late for bickering.” Hawke huffed, poking them both: Fenris on his arm, and Aisling on the fat part of her cheek. “Behave like good siblings, or there won’t be any dessert tomorrow.”
“But Haaaaaawke!” Aisling complained, jokingly, drawling the vowel.
“No but-s, young miss, you also returned way past your curfew, today!” He poked at her cheek again, and she pouted, too exaggerated to be serious about it. “Shoot it, Lucky, what do you need?”
“Well…” She sighed, fingers starting to absent-mindedly gesticulating as she spoke. “I was thinking: Could I plant a couple of Elfroot saplings in your garden? I will take care of them and prune them and whatever! It won’t be a bother, I could use them for medicines to give Anders and around the Alienage…”
She started to explain a detailed plan of how little of a bother it would be, how it could fill the empty flowerbed in the corner, the one that didn’t get enough light for flowers and was too narrow for trees or shrubs, and all the people she would distribute the leaves and poultices to.
“-and all for free, not like those thieves in Lowtown that would like me to believe that such a common plant can really cost all those coins.” She seethed.
Truth to be told, the price of Elfroot dropped after she made a long and loud tirade in front of a crowd about how much of a pilfery it was to charge for it with at least a couple of merchants, and threatened to curse them with old Dalish hexes. But still, the merchants had to charge something for the leaves, and she never really stopped glaring at them whenever they walked by.
And it was true that the flowerbed in the corner was empty.
“Sure, Lucky, do as you please. Do you need help in getting the plants down from Sundermount?” Hawke asked.
“Thank you!” She collected her legs first and then stretched on her spot, with a satisfied huff. Pushing right enough on Hawke’s side to send him right on touching Fenris on the other side. And it was with the same smirk that she looked up at him. “And don’t worry about the rest. I have it covered.”
---
“Can you give me a hand, please?”
Aisling asked, the next afternoon on top of a meagre, old horse that clearly saw much better days. And was of a most peculiar dandelion yellow. Attached to the horse, there was a small carriage full of pots and vases in various shapes and dimensions, full of Elfroot in various stages of growth.
“What is that?” Fenris asked, on the door, glaring at her with suspicion.
“Hi Fenris. Why, that’s the couple of things I wanted to plant, no?” She pointed out, blinking twice at him.
“That’s…” Hawke tried to say something, still taking everything in. “… I wasn’t expecting the horse.”
“Oh, him?” Aisling asked, smiling brightly as she patted the animal’s neck affectionately. “I needed some help, so I bought him from a nice guy who just got here and needed money. I was thinking of naming it Custard, what do you guys think?”
Hawke started to laugh, and Fenris groaned aloud. She laughed too, from on top of what was, apparently, her horse and a new addition to the household. Where she planned to keep the equine was a detail Fenris tried to brought in the conversation but nobody paid much attention to, too occupied in coaxing poor old Custard to walk in the foyer at the right angle for the carriage to slip inside the door as well. Not an easy task, but in three they managed, succeeding also -with Fenris grumbling “like an old bean pot” nonetheless- in dragging everything in the hall.
Hall where the expedition suddenly -and predictably stopped. Because Aisling jumped right down from the horse to greet Dog properly, as he rose up from his favourite spot in front of the fireplace and started to wiggle his tail and butt madly at her. All his offense had lasted but 12 hours, just in time for her to offer him part of her breakfast as a peace offering.
“Hi Dog! Yes, yes, I missed you so much!” She chirped, higher than her usual pitch, crouching down on the carpet and outstretching her arms to make space for the animal to barrel her on her butt in their usual ritual. She started scratching his head and letting him lick her face, obligingly, and Dog graciously allowed her to giggle throughout the activity. “Have you kept good watch over the house?”
The mabari barked.
“Of course you did! Because you’re the bestest, goodest boi in all Thedas!”
“And the mangiest!” Hawke added, still from the foyer where he was, with Fenris, pushing the cart. Or trying to do, since the horse had stopped, without a rider.
“Aaaaaw, you’re not mangy, don’t listen to him! You’re handsome! Yes, yes you are!”
“If you’re done with greeting your beloved…”  Quipped Fenris, a sigh in his voice.
“Jealous much, uh?” Aisling giggled, managing, as per her usual, to silence Fenris for a while.
She gave a last ruffle to Dog’s ears, promised him to scratch him some more later (and that he could help with the digging), and got back to work. It was a community effort that paid off, with Dog jumping around and helping in his own way (“He’s keeping the morale high!”), Bodhan opening the doors and Sandal too helping push the cart, they managed to bring everything in the garden, with minor damages.
Saved that poor ceramic vase, finely painted in blue and red flowers and delicious detailing, that surely costed a fortune to the original owner, and that now lied broken on the hall’s floor.
“Well, luckily it was stolen.” Hawke shrugged, cleaning his hands on his trousers.
“The flowers were all wrong, anyway, Embrium has not such pronounced pistils.” Aisling agreed, patting the horse’s butt as she freed him from the harness.
The poor horse was, indeed, an octuagenary in horse years, and didn’t react when the elf patted his big posterior. Didn’t walk when he was finally free from the cart. He just looked around, ignored the dog sniffing his hooves and lying on his front paws, butt in the air to lure the other animal to play, and just headed towards the first flowerbed, exactly three steps on his right, to gently munch at the begonias there.
No one batted an eye, mainly because the attention was drawn elsewhere. Because as Aisling thanked them both, with a squeezing hug to Hawke and a failed attempt to drag Fenris in too with an arm and also a leg (“What are you, a monkey?”), and then started to unload the cart, it was clear that there was something peculiar about the huge load of plants.
Because the cart, looking at it a little better, had the Templar insignia on its flanks. The pots too were marked with the flaming swords, quickly painted with a stencil, and the word “Confiscated” in bright red. It answered to how exactly was possible for her to gather such a quantity in so little time, but it still didn’t explain how come she, on her own, managed to get her hands on everything without a patrol of angry Templars on her trail.
Because as weird as she was, she surely wouldn’t have been there, happy as a clam, humming a tune gingerly as she wobbled under the weight of a huge terracotta vase containing saplings planted so close they resembled a bush, if she had a patrol of angry Templars on her trail.
Possibly.
“You stole from the Templars, Lucky?” Hawke finally asked, amused.
“What?” She turned, opening her eyes big at him. “Oh! Oh, no no no, I didn’t steal them, I was given them.”
She explained, as if it was the most normal thing ever.
“Given them.” Fenris pointed out, knowing a lost cause when he saw one and starting, begrudgingly just for show, to help her.
“Yes, given. I asked Cullen what would they have done with them, and convinced him to let me take care of them. They would have thrown all this treasure away, and that would have been a terrible waste, you see.” She shrugged, huffing loudly as she squatted down and deposited the first big pot in the empty shady corner. “I stopped on the way to give some pots to Merrill, she’s planting them in the Alienage, but there’s just not enough space there. We’ll make do here, and I’ll distribute what’s left around. I think Aveline has some space in her garden, Anders’ clinic would be nicer with some potted plants if he manages not to let the rats eat them, and I could water them when I go help him, you see.”
She went on explaining, as if nothing she said was anything out of the ordinary or strange, that she heard of the big requisition some days ago, and acted to help out as she could by offering to take care of the confiscated goods. All those plants, that the trio was dutifully uncharging and depositing close to their allotted patch, had been grown by the fortune-teller in Lowtown, a shady widow that pretended she knew how to read the future in an incomplete deck of cards, accepted just gold in payment, and apparently also sold Elfroot for purely smoking purposes. Charging so much that only rich people from Hightown could afford it. Someone snitched, and the situation got the attention of the Templars, Cullen had told her over lunch, and here they were.
When she started to tell them about the nice guy she bought the horse from, a young headstrong boy from some town in Orlais starting with G (“Guiscarde? No… Gateaux? Not either. Well, something with G.”) that was looking for a place in the City Guard even if he lost the letter of recommendation that his dying father wrote him, Hawke finally stopped her to ask the one question.
“Wait, Lucky, you said… Cullen give you a shitload of Elfroot he just confiscated from two stoners.”
“Yes?”
“Cullen as in Curly? Knight-Captain Rutherford? Mister Pole-stuck-up-in-my-ass?”
“Duh?” She answered, as if she was just told with surprise that the sun rises east and sets west. “Do you know any other Cullen?”
“What- But- Fen!” Hawke turned, flabbergasted and pointing at the blonde circling around them unfussed to get another vase. “Tell her something!”
“No.” The elf replied, drily.
“Seriously, I don’t see why you’re so fussy over this. He’s kind.” She pouted at them both, with an air of reproach that shouldn’t really be on her face. “Yes sometime he’s very grumpy and reminds me of a hedgehog, all spikes. But he helped me when a novice tripped me and all the things I bought from Solivitus fell all over the place. We chatted, and he’s nice too. I bring him lunch when I go there for supplies and no, I never bring my staff, I’m not stupid.”
“Does he know you’re a mage?”
She paused, at that, frowning hard at the growing army of pots that she was gathering in the courtyard.
“… You would like him, you know.”
“I-” Hawke scoffed. “Sure, of course I like him, we’re actually the only two people in the Gallows, of course we have to like each other.”
“Because you see, he gets all Ferelden at times, and he kinda reminds me of you.”
“Sure, I locked you in the guest room and you have people treating you like you’re dangerous!”
Aisling turned to her friends, with a look of pure boredom on her face.
“I see the point you’re making, and it would come across better if it wasn’t you two scolding me, you see.”
The two men looked at each other, in various stages of processing what she just said. Hawke gestured at Fenris, once again, to tell something, do something, anything, but the elf shrugged.
“She’s right.”
“Thank you!”
“Are you making friends with everyone and their grandma?” Hawke grumbled,
“As long as they don’t ask me to pay for Elfroot…”
The conversation died, as the last pot was deposited on the ground, and the trio was left in silence in the courtyard. Looking at a small army of elfroot in front of them, on the ground, with a Templar cart to their shoulders and an unsettlingly yellow horse slowly clopping to find some grass to graze, ignoring the Dog trying to lure him to play. No one said anything, or moved, and a quick glance at the Dalish could return an image of a person deep in concentration, hands on her hips and mouth bent in a very serious, very frowny line.
“You have no idea of how to deal with all this.” Fenris, in the end, broke the silence.
“Well if you say it like that…” She grumbled, punctured right in her pride. Fenris’ turn, this time, to smirk.
“Hawke?” And there she was, turning to her friends with a pout on her face and the best impression of Dog pretending he hadn’t eaten in three days as soon as lunch was served.
Hawke, on his own, turned towards her and considered the situation very carefully, raising one eyebrow and smirking, too, under his moustache. With the glint in his eyes that signalled that, this time, it was him who was thinking to something that would have had some not fully good repercussions.
“I’ll tell you what.” He proposed, leaning one arm, bent, over her shoulder. “I will teach you proper gardening-”
She lit up in a smile, taking a breath to speak, but he interrupted her.
“-on one condition.”
“Sure, what?”
“You need to lure your good Knight-Captain to the Blooming Rose.”
She deflated, looking at him with annoyance on her face.
“You’re not thinking of-”
“-and, you need to challenge him to a drinking game.”
“You want me to get drunk in the Blooming Rose? For what?” She asked, not really convinced anymore.
Hawke smirked at her, moustaches curling up with mischief and a glint in his eyes that his friend, down there, wasn’t really buying. Nor was Fenris, a little to the side. It was never good when they agreed on something openly, but as for Hawke? He didn’t care.
“An innocent joke, I swear he’ll end up with all his armour on, and the beanpole he has up his ass still in its place, unless he’ll choose otherwise.”
She squinted up at him, pouting for good measure to make him know that she wasn’t really convinced about the endeavour. Which brought Kerry to just pinch her cheeks with affection, so cutely puffed up.
After a couple of minutes of playfully swatting around each other’s hands, tho, Aisling stepped back, raising her hands and giggling.
“Ok, ok. But nothing that will be mortifying, cause physical injuries and waste food, ok?”
“I love how in this progression, food waste is the worst thing.” Hawke cooed, taking her hand and making her spin around.
“So what? It’s a pity to waste good food!” She followed the movement, easily getting into movement and letting him lead.
“Are you sure you weren’t born in Ferelden?”
“What are you planning?”
“Oh, it’s something you did as well!”
He stopped her, and she considered.
After a minute, she sighed aloud, nodding solemnly.
“Ok.” She said, in the end.
“Ok?” Fenris complained.
“Ok!” Hawke beamed.
“But, with one condition too.” Aisling smiled, raising one finger, and it was her turn to sport a mischievous grin that went back and forth between her two friends.
She let one minute pass, building up anticipation.
“You two are sharing one drink.”
“What the-”
“I’ll ask the fancy straws!”
“Lucky, that’s-”
“The ones heart-shaped!!”

I have two AUs of sorts for the backyardigans :)
AU 1: The Backyardigans as human! As kids they were best friends but unfortunately were separated and moved to new houses and schools by their parents. Some years later, Uniqua is starting high school! It’s starts off pretty mediocre, but her last class, the class she’s most excited for is Musical Theatre. When she gets there, she finds a theatre that doesn’t seem to have been used for years! But unexpectedly, she finds her 4 friends from childhood. They’ve all signed up for the musical theatre class too! Each of them are thrilled to have found each other again, see how they’ve all changed and perform a musical adventure together again. Unfortunately their hopes are shattered when their theatre teacher reveals that the theatre department at their school has never actually done a proper performance before, and most likely won’t this year. So it’s up to the reunited Backyardigans to try and build up support for their theatre program and hold a show!
AU 2: The Backyardigans as the animals they are, are just silly theatre kid teens hanging out!
Basic DNI info: NSFW/18+ and anything hateful or gross. Please keep in mind The Backyardigans is a KIDS show, and the characters are children, so I don’t tolerate any gross behaviour.
Let’s just spread care and love! I’ve been a fan of the backyardigans since a child and I just want to keep spreading my adoration for it by posting about it! 🩷🧡💛💙💜

monthly media recap: july 2023
read:
Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater - a very sweet and kind Regency fantasy romance. One of the reviews on the cover calls it "the definition of a comfort read", and I couldn't agree more. Since this is Tumblr, I feel like I need to add preemptively that maybe don't judge the way the fairy curse in the novel is written (that is, in a way that resembles and, imo, should be read as neurodivergence) before you've learned how it ends
Angélique: The Road to Versailles, Angélique and the King, Angélique and the Sultan, Angélique in Revolt, Angélique in Love, The Countess Angélique, The Temptation of Angélique by Anne Golon - books 2-8 in the Angélique series of historical fiction novels that... didn't age quite well, in my opinion, I'd say a 20th century author could do better even with the caveat that the 17th century people are not by any means supposed to act like modern people. But the plot is so gripping that I can't put these books down, and then there's also this motif of people helping each other even in the bleakest circumstances running through the entire story that makes it worth the occasional cringe for me. However, my cringe level is built on a lot of classic novels that are very much Product of Their Time so idk if I'd recommend these books to anyone. I am having a lot of fun with them, though
I guess it doesn't really count as a book, but it made me spend some time with the French dictionary to read the comics, so - I ordered one of these Three Musketeers zines, the Cavalier Jaune one, and it's a gem (and clearly made with such love for these books) and I'm really glad I got it <3
+ currently reading the next Angélique book
watched:
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) - very cool and creative and heartfelt, loved it!
Д'Артаньян и три мушкетёра / D'Artagnan and Three Musketeers (1978), Мушкетёры двадцать лет спустя / Musketeers Twenty Years After (1992), Тайна королевы Анны, или Мушкетёры тридцать лет спустя / The Secret of Queen Anne or Musketeers Thirty Years After (1993) - finally watched all three of these adaptations of the d'Artagnan romances, I've only seen the first one before in bits and pieces. The first one is delightful and has so much funny stuff I totally forgot about, such as Constance biting her assailants and Rochefort & Milady singing to Richelieu an offensive song the people of Paris wrote about him. The second one is mostly fine, even despite the ridiculously clumsy attempts to retcon the book stuff that wasn't in the first movie (yeah, right, d'Artagnan sacrificed the ring that the queen gave him to try to save Buckingham, and Lord Winter has met the Musketeers before, this was totally included in part one). I didn't like the changed ending, though - I think it's important that it is Athos who kills Mordaunt, what with the possibility of Mordaunt being his son. The third part might be the stupidest attempt at an everybody lives!AU ever, but it gets like 2/5 points for the cast and the okay-ish first episode
Strange Days (1995) - cyberpunk noir, very cool, Angela Bassett as Mace is amazing
Vai viegli būt jaunam? / Is It Easy to Be Young? (1986) - the famous Latvian documentary about the life of Soviet youth, addressing topics from the punk subculture to the war in Afghanistan. A very interesting reflection of a generation; I think some parts are gonna haunt me
Stand by Me (1986) - summer, childhood in all its cruelty, and friendship that changes you forever. I might or might not have cried
Attack the Block (2011) - really enjoyed this one. Good social commentary? In my sci-fi comedy horror about an alien invasion? It's more likely than you think
L'Apollonide: Souvenirs de la maison close (2011) - beautiful and tragic. One of those films that feel like nothing really happens when in truth a lot happens. Also, women are my favourite guy (c)

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favourite five fics that you've written then pass on to other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
So, I kind of feel like an asshole, but I’m picking 6 fics, because I just can’t decide which of these to boot. Hopefully, I will be forgiven. :)
The Plans of Battle https://archiveofourown.org/works/8953228/chapters/20491603
The Musketeers: Athos/Milady/Treville, aka Milathosville
The longest fic I’ve written, and one that I really do love. It’s a mystery/adventure, with lots of smut for all possible arrangements of the characters. And the happy ending they all deserve. #agreatshowthatranfortwoseasons
A Slow Eclipse https://archiveofourown.org/works/10807098/chapters/23976291
Versailles: Phillippe/Louis, aka Philouis
I enjoyed writing this dynamic so much. This relationship is the reason to watch the show. This fic also marks a big step forward for me as a writer of kink and smut, so it's close to my heart on that front as well.
Expectation of the Night https://archiveofourown.org/works/14718785/chapters/34018514
Turn: George Washington/Benjamin Tallmadge, aka Benwash
This is one of the trickiest fics I’ve ever written. It’s multi-chapter and is canon-compliant while twining into 2 seasons worth of episodes. But at the end of the day, I think it’s actually quite good.
Weaving https://archiveofourown.org/works/18058001
Vikings: Ragnar/Athelstan, aka Athelnar
It’s only 1,700 words, but they might be the best 1,700 words I’ve ever written. I now can't write these two in any way other than in this sort of dreamy prose.
Live and Learn https://archiveofourown.org/works/21906943/chapters/52288153
Captive Prince: Damen/Laurent/Nicaise
This was the first fic idea I ever had for this fandom, but I put it off for over a year because someone told me I shouldn’t ship Nicaise with, well, anyone. I was so pissed, I thought the fandom didn’t deserve my awesome fic. But then I wrote it anyway, and damn, I’m glad I did.
A Mad, Evil Love https://archiveofourown.org/works/29493369/chapters/72453240
Lucia di Lammermoor: Enrico/Lucia
This stretched me as a writer so much, in terms of tone, point of view, and topic. I wanted to try writing something darker, and it’s definitely that, but I think it’s rather good as well, if I do say so myself.
Thank you sooooooo much for asking!!!

9 favourite movies
Thanks for the tag, @banirareiko! I'm a little late in doing this for various reasons, not least of which being that I'm not a huge movie-watcher and I also don't have a lot of favourites, so the thought of coming up with NINE of them was incredibly intimidating. In the end, I cheated, but not as much as I thought I would.
There are some movies I've really enjoyed but have only seen them once, so I didn't want to put them in a favourites list even if I might actually like them better than some of these. *shrugs* I don't watch a lot of movies, let alone re-watch them. I've probably forgotten a bunch as well.
In no particular order:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Italian Job - a fun movie that I've seen many times and could definitely watch many times again
Pride and Prejudice - it's a miniseries rather than a movie, but I've watched the whole 5 hours of it in a single sitting on multiple occasions, so I think it counts (also I would've included Emma and Sense and Sensibility on this list as well but didn't want to push it with all the miniseries)
The Abduction Club - absolute cheesefest. it's hilarious and makes for a good comfort movie
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - this one got done so dirty at the box office, we were robbed of a sequel. it had me hooked from the trailer alone. if you like spy movies that don't take themselves seriously, give this one a shot
Little Women - a classic from my childhood, this is one of my favourite versions. I wasn't a fan of the new version at all; this one meets the mark on pretty much every level
Star Wars Episode IV - this is where I'm cheating again; I like the whole original trilogy and don't have a favourite of the three, but of course I'll never watch the latter two without watching this one first
The Three Musketeers - I'm not sure I'd really classify this as a favourite nowadays, but I loved it growing up and it's definitely one that I'd be willing to watch again
Ocean's Eleven - it's just another one of those movies that doesn't really get old no matter how many times you watch it
The Outsiders - I'm including this more for the book than the movie itself, but I'm still counting it. Also I kinda copied the opening lines of the book for one of my fics, so I think I have to include it
I'll tag @effortandmore, @eskiix, and @itsashleighh, if you want!
